Mid-week about 6ish, me and the Mrs felt like a good Chinese meal. Wong's looked the part from the street and when we walked in staff was very welcoming. I noticed there was nobody else in there except a party of Chinese people in the back. We ordered a starter then a main (Grandma's Chicken BBC winner), waiter was friendly but seemed dysfunctional. When asked, he described the main as fryed chicken, he couldn't have got it more wrong. In fact it was more like chicken nuggets. We had to prompt him for sides such as rice!!!The food was very disappointing, acceptable maybe 20 years ago but poor by today's standards. Our starter was chicken sweetcorn soup which was ok but a little tastless, as if it came straight from a tin. While halfway through the starter we were asked if we were ready for the mains, I felt this was strange as I had a mouth full of soup at the time. When we had the mains, the boiled rice was clumpy and my wife's chicken blackbean didn't have much sauce and too much onion. My meal was very poor, they should remove it from the menu as the chef that cooked the original BBC winner has clearly left years ago. it was dry and over seasoned completely with salt, I left most of it on the plastic plate. I so wanted this place to be a gem, but it feels to me like the staff even though friendly are in bad need of training in all areas. For example, I asked for a pint of lager (tiger) but I'm guessing they only do bottles because I was charged a whopping £9.20 which is maybe the price of 2 bottles. He should have at least told me if that was the case. Also we had to ask them to remove the extortionate service charge. So in summary the service was poor, as was the food and overpriced. 😭

Had a great meal at Wong’s on Denmark Street. The food was absolutely delicious – super fresh and full of flavour. We had the crispy duck and black bean beef, and both were spot on. Staff were friendly and the vibe was relaxed but still felt special. Portion sizes were great too – left feeling full and happy! Definitely one of the best Chinese spots in Bristol. Will 100% be coming back.

Ma Po Tofu no relation to the original and completely gross: No Szechuan pepper in the dish at all so not numbing. No minced pork. No chilli oil. Just thick, nasty brown beef gravy with tofu and huge chunks of uncooked ginger. Utterly gross and disingenuous. Half crispy shredded duck not a half duck or crispy or shredded. Just sliced, sloppy-skinned, and excessively fatty. Sui yuk (crispy belly pork) had been refried hard as a rock and made inedible. We abandoned all three dishes and threw it all away. To add insult to injury I noticed some of the Deliveroo photos are A.I. generated and there are loads of recent fake 5 star Google Maps reviews (how come so many reviewers have only ever posted one review and it happens to be of Wong’s?). Wong's is trading just off the old BBC award - sadly the food is now terrible and I will never order again.

Visited on a Saturday evening with friends and chose the set menu which was £39 per person. The first low point was that we ordered a £39 bottle of pinot grigio which when brought to the table was actually a bottle of Barefoot wine which is about £8 in the supermarket!!! Disappointing over priced! The set menu was ok although we didn't get the dishes that were on the set menu, it seemed like they just have us what was left over from previous orders as it was mainly pork dishes and crispy beef with no sauce, very underwhelming. The starter platter was definitely the highlight. The staff were ok although when we finished (about 10pm) they all sat on the table next to us and watched us until we left, slightly uncomfortable. The bill for 4 set menus, a bottle of overpriced wine and 6 small bottles of tiger beer came to £269 so not a cheap evening. Overall disappointing meal and sure there are nicer places out there.

The initial look of Wongs makes you think that this is going to be a good experience. The chinese background music is calming, the interior is lovely, even though the tables and chairs are built for giants. The service is friendly and efficient . That's where it all stops!!! Wongs is like a man with a sock down his pants or Tottenhams stadium, impressive visually but once you get past the looks and sparkle it's a total let down. I can honestly say it's the worse Chinese food in a restaurant I have had and you can't include the prawn crackers in that because they are bought in. The sweet chilli sauce is watered down, the steamed dumplings were soggy and watery like they were boiled and everything tasted stale. I know that sounds harsh but when you pay nearly £12 for some noodles and bean sprouts you expect it to be fresh, tasty and enjoyable not oily and greasy, I always judge things on cost and Wongs is not cheap. It's such a shame because the staff are great and the setting is lovely. My advice to Wongs owner is sack your chef. If you want decent traditional chinese food you can go to Nice Spice which is a 1 minute walk from Wongs. Not as flashy but good food and not expensive.

This could be a great restaurant with lovely decor, good atmosphere and location, and a large and interesting menu. However, the soups we had were watery and under-seasoned, and some of the other dishes didn't have enough sauce on them and were a bit bland. The prices are on the high side - even the set menu is £30 per head. Service was slow even though there seemed to be staff members sat in the restaurant playing with their phones and noisily eating soup. The back of the restaurant isn't used and is full of mess. The toilets weren't very clean. We waited so long trying to order coffee that we gave up and had it at home.

Worst Chinese we've ever had in our lifes!!! Visited Wong's with some work colleagues and we all regretted going there. We were the only ones in the restaurant and quickly understood why. The young waiter was very unpleasant and unhelpful and made us all feel awkward when asking questions about the menu. The food was extremely bland and the sauces looked like they had been made many days in advance. We ordered spare ribs for starters and only one rib had meat on it. We were charged nearly £200 for the four of us, and we all felt bloated and uncomfortable the whole night. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Been here a handful of times. Generally, the staff are lovely polite and cheerful, even if somewhat fake it's ideal for a birthday etc. If you get served by what appears to be someone's teenage son, you will be unlucky as he is the only person ever to have been rude in front of me. The decor is beautiful and crates a nice atmosphere. The food is good, but nothing in comparison to restaurants of the same cuisine nearby. As much as a lot of it tastes fresh, it's relatively bland. Not sure if they are catering to the British more, but definitely not authentic food. Decent serving sizes

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel - the food was very good- although extortionately priced. The service was very odd- our waiter didn’t really know anything about the menu or vegetarian options. The chairs were very ornate but extremely hard so we changed them for the owners softer chairs. The whole family that owned it were sitting at the next table watching things on their phone and having video calls loudly which spoiled the calm atmosphere. Although it has a 4 star hygiene rating, our table cloth had food stains and rice grains remaining from the last occupants. As it was late and we had a very tired 7 year old with us - we couldn’t go anywhere else. The food was very good but the service and shabby/ dirty restaurant let them down especially as we were the only customers there at one point.

I picked this place from a vague memory eating here over a decade ago that it was a fairly nice experience. I was hosting some friends visiting Bristol and they wanted a Chinese after visiting an escape room and this was geographically a good fit for after. I only noticed both the reviews and the menu pricing as we were on our way over. I would say the majority of reviews are quite accurate. This is an aging family restaurant with a focus on probably paying what is a high rent, or something else thats driven them to hugely over charge and under deliver. There was nothing that was especially remarkably good about this place but the list of complaints is long: One prawn toast was fridge cold in the middle, One meal was delayed by about 5 minutes from everyone else, 3 portions of rice came as a shared bowl that was completely deficient for the amount of mains, so we requested more rice and were charged for 5 portions, noting that 2 extra portions was identical to the original 3. The price of rice alone for 3 people was £25 which is just outrageous. I was embarrassed enough I had chosen this place I swallowed some of the bill for my friends. I can't speak to anyone else's but my own meal was not especially great. I just get the impression its a family run place where the core family are now at retirement age and struggling both economically and practically to deliver their original business. I would avoid, but feel saddened to say this, as I clearly have an original vague memory of this place being quite good.

The food here is still very good, but on our latest visit it appeared that they were decorating and had just left everything where it was to start service. There were paint trays and brushes in the ladies loos, ladders propped in the hall on the way to the gents and piles of dirty linen on the floor inside the gents loos. On the restaurant floor there was a bicycle that I had to negotiate in order to sit down, which was later wheeled past me. Despite it being an early Saturday evening the service staff didn't seem to be ready, and in one case, willing to serve. This used to be a truly magical restaurant, and I sincerely hope that this is just a blip, and it returns to it's previously high standards.

First red flag was the horrible dog smell as we walked in, it was very quiet no one else apart from family members and another couple , I had read the reviews beforehand and still decided to show to to my cousins meal regardless. This place is actually so terrible I can’t make it up at all. Despite getting there after everyone else and ordering late those who were seated before me were only given their side dish and it took ages for her main to come out , all of our food came out like warm/ cold. There was only on waiter for the 6 of us, so our food came out at random delayed times. Me and my sister shared as we don’t eat big portions , despite this 80% of our food was left on the plate due to how tasteless it was, not even a sprinkle of msq / soy sauce was used. no flavour at all. Everyone else’s food came cold. The dumplings were very cold and soggy within mins even the salad that came with the duck pancakes were dehydrated. After so many issues with our food we had told the waiter about this & nothing was done about it, there seams to be a lack of customer service in this place.. We also had the chef (we believe) an old lady stare at us for a period of time as if she was patrolling us. 70% of the food we all ordered was still left on our plates afterwards and we received 0 discount or compensation for it. We paid £189 for about £60 worth of food from takeaway which is way better. Pls save your money and go the a takeaway instead. Anyone who enjoys this place simply will eat anything including faeces.

When the sizzling beef came out it looked delicious but disappointingly they forgot to bring the rice and needed reminding twice. Place is a disgrace says 2 for one drinks and then when you order nothings actually 2 for 1 and it's £7 for a bottle of Corona and you only get one rip off
