The Nova was amazing when Mark had it and now it's completely changed. No atmosphere, no food! Such a shame I've been going to this pub since I was about 8 years old but now it's a shadow of it's former self.

Popped in for a few drinks and had a great time talking to the new landlady and local characters who were all very welcoming! Looking forward to food when they reopen the kitchen in the not too distant future. Great range of ales, especially liked the Tiny Rebel which had a summery vibe when the rain was coming down outside!

What a find! A proper, unpretentious pub serving simple but very tasty fare. Doorstep sandwiches on lovely fresh bread made the ideal "light" lunch. Excellent beers, served by very welcoming staff. Rammed with history and retains its working maritime heritage, thankfully resisting modernisation. The maritime charts make fascinating wall coverings, supplemented by old photographs. Fabulous place and a must see on a visit to Bristol

Charming, unpretentious riverside pub which has been going since 1811. Three nice old rooms with plenty of historic patina and interesting photos and other decoration. There’s also a waterside outdoor terrace. Good basic pub food - I enjoyed my ham and cheese sandwich, as well as a pint of Moretti.

The pub itself is about 200 years old. It is a proper British pub and apart from diners, there were regulars having a drink (and dogs are allowed!). Someone recommended the Nova Scotia in preference to a nearby pub, which has great views, as they said the food was better at the Nova Scotia. We had Sunday Lunch ….pork beef or lamb and the full trimmings, and really good portions. The vegetables were cooked well, not soggy and with some bite to them. Be prepared to wait a bit from placing your Order, but sit back enjoy the company of your friends and you will get a delicious meal, which is also piping hot. You must book by the way and parking is a bit tight but on a Sunday the rules are relaxed so you can park by the water near the pub. We will be going back again I am sure.

Pint sitting by the water earlier, went for a stroll & came back 9ish as the menu looked interesting. Admittedly waited an age for the food but boy, when it came out… Really simple stuff but sooo tasty & well cooked. A cauliflower cheese I’d have been proud to serve up with a freshly cut side salad & bread & butter & sausages mash & veg my partner declared really excellent. Complimented the chef after & he told me how he used all the remains of the Sunday roasts as the basis of his gravies -that’s proper cooking!

Not adhering to COVID restrictions ! But a lovely pub… food looked fantastic… however I was rather taken aback to see one of the staff behind the bar eating her lunch a sandwich clearly touching her mouth and NOT washing her hands. This really isn’t acceptable during COVID times as she was then serving tables in between eating, not washing or sanitising this is how COVID spreads…staff clearly need training and guidelines on hygiene expected during COVID

Stopped off for a swift half of apple juice and a packet of mini cheddars (Dad had a London Pride). This place is really cool and traditional with a nautical feel to the decor and yet a somehow cosy vibe; we sat in the captains cabin section of the bar - definitely the superior choice of location. We got the snug table by the window with a view across the bar. Nice friendly staff and what looked like a nice selection of beer - although I had already had my fair share of the stuff hence why I opted to the lighter option of juice. Nonetheless, Llama approved.

Driven to review this famous cider and food pub by the extraordinary behaviour of a diner last night. I'd never heard anyone complain about the food in the Nova before. I have enjoyed many very reasonably priced and great meals there. He (a significantly overweight middle aged man - query a rival publican?) was offered a fresh helping in good grace. I heard tonight that he had complained again about that second serving - but only after he'd eaten most of it and got his money back. His dining companions looked suitably embarrassed to be sitting at the same table. I wonder if he had any idea that most of the pub would have decked him if they had not been so polite and mild mannered. Judging from his girth I guess he eats many a meal in that fashion as it would be expensive otherwise to get that portly. So, what is the Nova absent the mystery misery guts? A proper pub like they used to make them. No fancy decor but fascinating stuff on the walls which needs explanation from one of the many locals. The best kept Thatchers in Bristol at the keenest price. With a lemonade top it achieves mystical power over the human spirit ;-)Excellent home made pub food at fab prices. You may have to wait sometimes, particularly if you don't know how many other people will have headed down there to enjoy one of the chef's specials. A no-nonsense welcome - neither too friendly or unwelcoming-unless you're the sort of guy I saw last night of course. A place to visit before you die - or at least leave this city. Quintessential Bristol-that's the Nova.

Visited here Sunday lunchtime ready for some food and drink, after a lovely waterfront walk. Unfortunately, the barmaid informed us there was at least a 45 minute wait, so we declined and just had a drink. The barmaid seemed quite pleased that there was 'only one person in the kitchen', for some reason. Then another lady came outside collecting glasses, so I asked her if the food queue had reduced. She replied that there was a function on upstairs. Hello? Didn't they think to bring in some more staff?People who had food were returning it and the whole place seemed chaotic. Then to cap an unhappy experience we had another round and I was overcharged by 25%. I queried this of course, the lady recalculated but could not bring herself to apologise.I hope this was a one-off but it has certainly left a nasty taste.

Although we have visited this fine hostelry on several occasions for drinks, this was the first time we have eaten there......and we were not disappointed!A good range of food is available and is very cheaply-priced considering the pub's location (the gammon was superb value for money)!Add to that the range of well-priced quality real ales & ciders and you have a perfect pub - easily the best on the Bristol waterfront.

The Nova Scotia is an old-fashioned pub at heart, and scruffy in places but none the worse for that. It is not all that big inside, with charts used as wallpaper in some parts of the main bar. There is outside seating for use in good weather. It is in what I take to be a Georgian building, probably built when Napoleonic prisoners of war dug the New Cut, enabling the Floating Harbour to be locked, so keeping ships afloat at all stages of the tide. There are interesting views from the outside area, taking in the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Avon George, interesting buildings such as the Dock Cottages, and into the Floating Harbour. There is a good choice of beer, and a sensible menu. It's rare nowadays to get a good (and generously filled) sandwich that one can have without chips, and for an extremely reasonable £3.50. But there is plenty of hot food as well. There is free parking nearby (and a few spaces directly outside, but they are usually full). On my last visit I wondered why we don't go there more often.

Now I'm a bit partial to fancy stuff from time to time but honestly the Nova is as a pub should be ~ decent beer and rough cider, an unchanging, unique interior for as long as I can remember [30 years to be exact ] and decent food in large quantities. A great outside seating area overlooking the floating harbour is a fine place to make yer beer taste all the better . Ferry is a good way to get here and make an afternoon of it - if only. It's one of Bristol's great pubs , enjoy it .

One of the stalwarts of Bristol drinking pubs. The pub creates its own atmosphere because of its age and decorative standards have remained pretty much the same. There is quite a good selection of beer but the biggest seller is rough cider they also have a guest beer on tap.It isn't anything special inside but it is a nice pub for a few beers and on fine days you can sit outside along side the river and watch the world go by.The food is quite good value there is a changing menu with original additions and good portions Sunday roasts are very popular a good pub and restaurant which shouldn't disappoint.

We spent two afternoons in April at the Nova Scotia. The locals were very friendly and educated me on all historical topics. Richard was a star an also Pete and Rosie specially made our weekend. A big thanks to the landlord for making this pub fantastic.

We stopped here for some lunch whilst walking around bristol. The pub is a good old fashioned place with great and plentiful food. What I don't like is the toilets which really need a refurb.

Nice to sit in the pub and chat to the locals , just how the good old British pub used to be, please kept as it is. With nice seating area outside also. Lovely little pub situated at the Cumberland Basin end of the harbour. They serve great sandwiches and more substantial meals at a very good price. The size of these is big! They have a few draught beers on sale.Outside seating is available by the waterside. The pub itself is quite small.Had the Burger and it was very good. The sandwiches are doorsteps with plenty inside them.Great value and people watching

Lovely pub to visit on a summers evening where you can sit outside by the harbour. Food is really good, best steak I've had in ages and at a very reasonable price! :)

Atmospheric, great location, giant sandwiches, great staff and good beer all go together to make this one of the best pubs on the planet. Go on a sunny day, get the ferry boat or grab a pre match drink before City play. If you like proper pubs you won't be disapointed.

Stopped in here before my train. Friendly, efficient staff. My other half had the mac and cheese and I had the lasagne which was brill. Could do with more veggie options but no complaints other than that!

Simple, good, decent atmosphere can be a little rushed but that just alludes to the popularity of the place. Priced appropriately.

One of my favorite pizza shops in Bristol. Nice thick and hot pizza. The small one is good for one person.

food was hot omelette was lovely, chips were OK. the Nutella crepes were not crepes. it was pizza dough which was tough and inedible. hardly any filling at all. so won't be ordering these again. but the pasta from here is nice and I will order the omelettes again.

Chicken pieces plain and dry. Wings have a nice taste but unevenly spreaded and they were very dry and hardly warm. Service was good though.
