Place is a disgrace says 2 for one drinks and then when you order nothings actually 2 for 1 and it's £7 for a bottle of Corona and you only get one rip off

Drinks advertised as buy one get one free they tried to charge us full price queried it then took price down then wanted to pay cash and was told I couldn’t as they had no change By the same bar tender who was arrogant I know it’s busy because harbour fest but he obviously needs to know the company policy don’t give leaflets out that state buy one get one free and nothing to say u can’t pay cash basically was told if I didn’t pay by card i wouldn’t get my drinks so not good, terrible attitude from The bar tender ginger guy

Came in here last night with family and friends.. What a dump.. One member of staff shouldn't be working behind the bar as she was useless rude and had no clue about measures to drinks.. She needs sacking for her hospitality as she had no people skills whatsoever. As a barman for the last 25 years I know certain things she clearly doesn't. Won't be visiting here again 👎

We had Steinbeck and Shaw booked for a private party for our Christmas do and they managed to get us all fed and keep us all watered without a single hitch for the best part of seven hours. We must've been loud and a bit merry by the end but the staff were genuinely lovely and relaxed, and we felt so welcomed we ended up staying until the end of the night. Thanks for a great Christmas party gang x

Doorman kicked out my grandaughters friend for dancing on a chair which is the right thing to do my grandaughter left with her friend my grandaughter dropped her phone doorman pick it up and threw it out side smashing it on the floor disgusting behaviour

Dive. Beer was warm and its pricey for awful alcohol. Was there for a function. Don't do it. Caterers cater for 18-30s and not corporate. For corporate its a little embarrassing. Don't go unless your on s night out and your desperate.

Steinbeck & Shaw hosted our corporate offsite social. The venue, the team, entertainment and the food were all top-notch. We had a wonderful evening. Very professional and good fun. Thank you Rachael.

Booked a cocktail masterclass for a hen do here. The class was great, the host funny and attentive. Cocktails were tasty and instructions easy yet fun enough to get our moneys worth. Even accommodated one person making non alcoholic versions. A few issues when trying to book, as emailed responses to queries were slow, and no one picked up the phone. But ended up fantastic in the end.

Visted midweek, early evening for a business event. Great layout! The service and atmosphere was brilliant. Would recommend for a drinks and talk event any time!

Ellie (with the ie) was amazing, great service, made me feel real at home and got me a great mojito for a very reasonable price!

The staff in this bar are rude and inexperienced. The bar staff cannot serve drinks and would rather overpour a large spirit and mixer bottle, wasting a good third of what you have paid for over the top of the glass into the drip tray rather than getting a bigger glass or stopping pouring! According to the bar staff this is how they always do it!! Drinks were taken off the bar whilst we were still drinking them and it was attempted to give us a half measure of spirits. All levels of management in the building not prepared to listen to customers and came across as having zero experience in customer service. Incapable of dealing with any kind of complaint in any other way than to call the door staff over and evict you. If there was a genuine crisis in this bar we did not see anyone that would be capable of handling it. Customer service and bar training urgently required. Door staff very good.

What a rude staff! Went to go in for a drink and one of the staff (blonde girl) shouted at me (I’m 54) about which entrance I should have used. Bit of customer service training needed there! Went to pitcher and piano instead. Spent our money there.

Came here for a cocktail masterclass for my Mums hen do. Cocktails were delicious and Chris who held the class was fantastic, brilliant sense of humour and made the event feel exciting with a laid back atmosphere. Would 100% return!

Very disappointed by how me and my friend were treated by the security when we asked them to do something about the group of “guys” invading our table and very rudely trying to flirt with us/touching us, apparently the security was more friendly with them as he just smiled at them and said nothing. Been to many bars in Bristol and never been this disgustingly treated by the people who are supposedly providing protection. Would rate this with 0 if this option was given.

Me and a few friends from work decided to pop in for a few drinks after we finished our shifts on a Wednesday. We were greeted by a young lad named Chris who was lovely and chatty complimenting my Welsh accent 😂(He was Welsh too)😂 At the time they were running a 2 for 1 promotion on cocktails. And the cocktails looked and tasted fab!! Chris took extra time to make them look ‘extra pretty’ for us 😂 after an hour of drinking a group of roughly 50 people all crammed in at once. Even though Chris was all by himself he managed to serve all 50 customers (and us as well!) in rapid speed! Keeping the cocktails looking and tasting lush! Couldn’t have higher praise for him !! Me and my friends all work in the industry and we know how stressful it can be but honestly we were so impressed! Especially having been to Slug and Lettuce just before and although them having what seemed like hundreds of staff, we only managed to get 1 drink in 2 hours!! Will definitely be coming again!! Was ok, the music played a minute of each song before switching to another one in some kind of misguided dj mixing effect. The drinks were nice when you could get them but the wait at the bar was ridiculous. Could only get 2 drinks in am hour...

Security staff are disgrace. You need to do something about it. They keep letting some people in with no bookings and refuse the rest for the same reason no booking. Discrimination at its finest.

More glass collectors than staff serving cocktails . Place was very quiet stood at the bar watching two dull employees making drinks with zero enthusiasm waited 20 mins and left without even getting served . No wonder there was hardly anyone in there .

Decoration of the place is amazing with the pink horse hanging from the ceiling! The drinks were cheap and cheerful but was in line for quite a while but taste was 11/10. The cleanliness of the place let it down a bit as the tables/ menus were sticky and the toilets were not maintained, door locks did not work and there was no soap in the holders.

Seems a good place, but we only stayed for 2 drinks as the atmosphere was dead. Barely anyone in there and average tunes. Good cocktails and good price on the deals. Would probably return, but worth seeing if it’s lovely or not first.

We were having a good night until we were continually harassed by the cloakroom “sheriff” who repeatedly throughout the cold evening kept pestering us to put our coats into the cloakroom for a non refundable charge even when we told him we would be in and out for cigarette breaks, this continued on despite the fact that our coats were out of sight from 99% of the establishment . Even though multiple other tables had their coats on show he would only pick on us for unknown reasons and on top of this there was no mention of this being company policy and it wasn’t anywhere in writing. Bar staff were great and the atmosphere was good but overall this weapon of a bloke pestered is so much that in the end we left the place just to get some peace and quiet from his little man syndrome.

Nadine was amazing and so nice making cocktails for us and even make some for us we would love as she listen to us all the time and was so sweet to us even though we were crazy!! defo will be coming back because of her x

Racist security guard denied our entry and told us it was closed, as we turned our backs he let a white girl in with with no problem.

Pro:- Cheap drinks. Negatives:- It’s a dirty, soulless bar and the staff act like they have a chip on their shoulder. There are a couple of nice ones but generally they seem to have a them and us attitude against customers. Some are especially enjoying the power trip the covid restrictions have given them, despite being incorrect and discriminatory in what they say. I suggest HR do some training.

Popped in for a quick drink, mostly to escape the rain. Given the bars in the area this place is a little bit basic or run down for want of better wording. It wouldn't be my first choice and having my gin served in a plastic glass really took away from the enjoyment.

Came as part of a large group for the pizza and Prosecco bottomless brunch which is advertised as 1 pizza per person and unlimited Prosecco. When we arrived the staff told us that they would be bringing pizzas out to share as a table as they can’t cook lots in one go, which is fine we understand that a big group is hard to cater for. However after bringing out 3 pizzas per table of 7 (we were split into multiple tables) we were told that there was only 1 more pizza coming! I don’t know if they failed maths gcse but that is not 1 pizza each. They did not even ask us which toppings we wanted and brought out only meat pizzas when we had vegetarians in the group. The Prosecco was nice but they should not accept large group bookings if they cannot accommodate for what is advertised! If there is more than 4 of you I would suggest going elsewhere to avoid disappointment and being ripped off!

We've all suffered in this pandemic.im brighton born and bred I've never experienced such rudeness and arrogance from ill trained staff in my life, I ran the original shark bar on brighton seafront in the 90s which is now tempest if we had treated customers as you have are success would have been short. And back then we didn't have a pandemic to recover from I'm disgusted. I watched people walking away because they were ignored by staff 🤬

Do not make any reservations, they will steal your money!!! We booked a table for the 18th of June for the 24th of July (more than a month in advance) the full payment was done, we spent £100. On Friday the 16th July, at 5 pm received an email from them cancelling my table,with no explanation, no mention about my money or why they did so! Been trying to contact them all monday, and weekend but they don’t andwer anywhere. This is not the wy to treat someone who’s coming from another city to soend the day in Bristol! HOPE I GET MY £100 BACK

Disrespectful, out or order and horrible. Do not make any reservations, they will steal your money!!! I booked a table on the 18th June for the 24th July (more than a month in advance), full payment done , spent £100. Friday 16th July I had an email with no explanation saying my booking was cancelled, tried to ring them all day, send few message and they don't answer anywhere. This is not they way to treat costumers who had a reservation fully paid more than a month ago!!

My friends and I went to Steinbeck & Shaw to watch the England matches. They were really accommodating and provided a great atmosphere for the match. Drinks and food were quick and easy. Paul was particularly helpful and we’d definitely be in touch again for events.

Watched the England game here and was a great venue with really good service. Would highly recommend; good to have somewhere with more of an independent vibe in harbourside.

Friends booked us in here. Drink was ok, however cleanliness was not. Drink spilled at our table by previous patrons and not cleared up. Someone was sick in the gents urinals, again not cleaned up properly even after reporting the issue. Air con came on right above us making it very cold to sit, eventually staff switched it off for us. Wouldn’t rush back.

Ordering through the app doesn’t work and no option to order through a member of staff? Shocking. Staff no help at all, tried to use around 5 different WiFi’s. Don’t bother

The booking was easy online, staff were friendly and helpful. They have put precautions in place to make themselves Covid safe, however, it was weird having the music so loud and not being able to get up a dance because you can’t talk to each other as easily. There was quite a lot of items on the menu not available and the drinks were quite variable; my friend and I ordered pina coladas and they looked like two very different drinks.

No gas for the two heaters by us, but somehow had gas in the heaters at each end of the outside area which were on. The guy who was stood by the door most of the night wasn't helpful at all.

When we were ‘greeted’ at the ‘door’ we were feeling happy, merry and gay- excited for some reasonably priced drinks and some comfortable service. We received nothing of the sort. Upon our arrival we were welcomed by a man who can only be described as a menace to customer service totally undermining the ethos, values and reputation of Steinbeck and shaw. When seeing the menu, I naturally assumed I was at the Ritz in London given the prices and was expecting some sort of golden chalice to come with my beverage. I was presented with a plastic mason jar that looked like my grandmothers ash tray (she’s dead) and what is frankly a poor excuse for a Long Island ice tea- enter at your peril humans- this customer certainly won’t be returning. Unfortunately 2 random girls just went in under the barrier. And when we went in the manager who was dressed in casual wear (he looked like a customer: no uniform, name badge or anything) wasn’t happy we’d walked past him to a free table. Rather than have us check in via the covid app as we offered he just sent us away even though we had already sat down among other customers. Upon questioning this he didn’t change his mind. It’s a shame my group let me down but an even greater shame the manager didn’t give his name and didn’t want empty tables filled. I will visit again though and revise my rating (if allowed!) as it sounds like a place with a great vibe!

I would save your time if I was you. It was £30 to book a table for 1 hour!? And then whilst sitting down. Minding our own business.. the equivalent of a Male version of a ‘Karen’, who I can only describe as a want to be ‘manager’, told us that as a group of 5 ladies who were having a lovely, civilised soft drink and catch up were too loud and had received a noise complaint from another table of ‘customers’ at 3pm on a Saturday.. whilst the music was far louder than us. I think Karen needs to pipe down and remind himself of his position in life.

Dropped in for a drink before a dinner nearby. Couldn’t have been made less welcome by the server if he’d tried. Ordered two G&T’s which were swamped with ice. Only saving grace was the ‘2for1’ offer on the drinks. Weren’t able to order doubles on...

Great place to have a drink after work & a great vibe. I must say The waitor we had did come across quite rude and abrupt I would say he quite visibly had, had a long day.

The service at 5.30 in the afternoon was appalling. We had to ask several times for service. We ordered our 3rd drink at 6.45 way before the 15 mins end of our slot at 7.30pm. The drinks took several reminders and 20 mins to appear....

So got turnt away even though the bar was pretty much empty.only 2 of us. Door man asked the door woman if we could come in and she turnt her nose up at us. Dont want to sound snotty but this bar seems only to be for the loud and disruptive. We only wanted one drink. Shame

Really nice location, the place to go for friendly people.

Went for an all you can eat pizza and prosecco afternoon with work mates. Excellent value at £20 per person. Pizza was good, only issue was the prosecco was a bit warm.

My daughter's 21st birthday party Was completely ruined and left her in tears. As promises that were made on the telephone. We're not honoured. When she got to the club. She was offered unlimited mixers and a bottle of bubbly.This did not happen. She had booked a booth in advance so all her friends could celebrate with her sadley due to poor management at the club, When some of her friends tried to get into the club later that evening. An angry and aggressive doorman refused entry saying that the club was full and they would have to wait until someone else has left. This seems extremely strange when my daughter had booked for that amount of people to be in this particular Club. I don't think that door staff Should speak to customers who had paid good money for a night out in an angry and aggressive way especially to shout in my daughter's face saying what do you want me to do about it. My daughter was explaining calmly to the door staff that she had paid for entry of her friends. So if any of you were thinking about booking your party at this particular establishment. I would think again. And perhaps find somewhere that's got. Decent friendly staff And honours promises that were made.The assistant manager has contacted my daughter today and has offered a resolution to correct the errors that were made. My daughter was happy with how this was resolved.

Do not get the hype of this place at all, yes it's close to the waterfront and I guess during the day and not at busy times is probably a nice place to go. When busy however space is far too cramped. No where to dance tbh and can never get to that bar!
