Lovely place, but should have bar meals and Sunday dinners.I had a steak very nice, but the presentation was awful, should have a side salad with it. A steak meal should have grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, with chips, they must change their service, or they will lose a lot of customers.

Booked a table at the bar on the Tuesday for Saturday, on arrival no table booked, owner couldn't care less, she eventually offered a small table next to the bar which I declined I was then offered another table in the conservatory, I went up to the bar as all the waitresses were too busy to make eye contact and waited for fifteen minutes being ignored so I paid for my drink ( first one ) and left. A lot of money spent on the refurbishment which will go to waste unless they up their game.

Sad to write this but the only way I can compare food served at this establishment is a quality of Iceland ready meal. The staff is not interested if you walked in , the manager is the rudest person you ever meet in Boston possibly in Lincolnshire. The deco makes you feel like you are sitting in a charity shop . I would strongly give it a miss ..

I made a rather short notice booking for father's day for three adults and two children to which the staff were very patient and accommodating for my plethora of questions and associated gold fish memory. Parking was sufficient although owners of larger vehicles should expect a challenge. The environment was as expected for this type of establishment which was perfect. I had family with us from America and wanted to provide an authentic Great British carvery experience, rather than a commercial look like other carvery chains. I had to double check my receipt when I got home to check if I had been undercharged. 5x carvery and associated drinks came to under £40. A dessert was also incorporated into the price of the carvery, which was a pleasant surprise. As to the quality of the roast, my wife is not qualified to answer considering she is a chef at a large holiday location in the area. She insisted that I write a review here as chefs/establishments thrive on such customer feedback. She was impressed by the quality of the meats, temperature of the side dishes and flavor of the gravy. I was happy to find a dining establishments that keeps a chef wife happy (really difficult). The part that I found truly magical was the free desert. I was not expecting much but ordered the treacle sponge with custard. The first bite I took left me confused wondering if I had eaten anything. The sponge was so light and delicate that it literally dissolved on my tongue. A remarkable sensation that I made my wife assess. Her response was that they usually charge high price for that quality and yet this was provided as a free component of the carvery. It was a truly enjoyable lunch time that resulted in my American family experiencing a good example of British tradition along with an enjoyable fathers Day.

Every time you challenge my review, I shall repost it ! This is a honest review on my experience!! Over cooked food on both visits. Over cooked steak, over cooked sunday roast. Well done roast beef, veg boiled to tasteless mush, tasted like deep fried or packet roast potatoes?? Did not feel it was worth the 6.95 even with the free pudding... Awful!! Dated decor and rude owner, won't be back !! Such a shame as great location and could be a really nice place.

It must have been the worst pub I’ve been to in my entire life! The food was dreadful, staff were ignorant and the manager was insanely rude when my i told her about a concern I had with my food! On Sunday the 1st of July I visited Boston to celebrate the birthday of my elderly grandmother. As the sun was shining we chose to sit in the beer garden at the back of the pub and my grandmother positioned her scooter at the table to share a drink with my father and I. Unfortunately, a gust of wind picked up the umbrella from the centre of the table and lifted it into the air, smashing my grandmother in the face and causing her glasses to be knocked forcibly onto the floor where they became bent out of shape and significantly scratched. The umbrella itself landed inches from customers cars parked in the pubs car park. Both staff and customers witnessed this happen, however, only the other customers got to their feet and rushed to assist my grandmother and check on her welfare. Surprised by the disinterest of the staff stood watching, I took it upon myself to follow the staff inside and voice my disappointment. I spoke to a waitress at the bar in an extremely calm and polite manner, simply to say that I felt in a situation such as this, it would have been appreciated if a member of staff could have at least come over to see if my grandmother was alright (surely this is the most basic of customer care?) I also explained that I wanted to make sure the staff were aware of what had happened, in the hope that they would fix the umbrella and prevent a reoccurrence in future. I have to commend the waitress I spoke to, she kindly apologised and assured me that they would look into it. What a wonderful young lady, I considered the problem resolved. However, when she went to quickly update her manager I was suddenly face with an aggressive and hostile woman. She stood in my face and with a raised voice told me that I didn't need to tell her how to set up her umbrellas! Clearly this was an act of God! Gesticulating angrily I realised this woman was only going to be defensive and I politely excised myself from the confrontation and sat back down outside to finish my drink. My father, who had witnessed this angry and irate managers display left me with my grandmother and went to speak to the manager himself. He expressed his disappointment at the way I had been spoken to and the lack of care for my grandmother. The next thing I knew the manager had marched out to stand over me at the table and shout that my father had been threatening and that she would be phoning to police if we did not leave immediately. Sensing the escalation in the situation and refusing to allow my grandmother to experience any more stress or upset I made the decision to leave the pub.

Service is great, staff very friendly and helpful. Have also visited during the week, Steak night Thursday, cheaper than usual, they have the hot rock which is cooking your steak on a very hot plate to your liking (not advisable for well done steaks). Went for my friends 60th birthday she chose here because she has never had a bad meal here (her words). Never been before myself so was not sure what to expect. Do not be put off by the inside of the pub as we went on a cold wet night and there were not many people in there and it lacked atmosphere. The girls behind the bar and the waitresses were very polite and attentive. The food was excellant, hot and tasty and there were quite a few of us and all our meals came out together. I would definitely eat here again and i think if you visit in summer it would have a different feel as it is by the river and there are lots of boats moored there.

I am writing this review not based on an actual visit but on the previous posters experience on trying to get their water bottles filled after having a meal at the tavern. This message is directly aimed at Christine the owner, I cannot believe your attitude in this matter and your arguments are pathetic, you're in the service industry darling and had an opportunity to provide a simple service to paying customers at virtually no cost to yourself or your business. Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately your stupidity has gone viral and can now be found reposted on sites all over the internet. This at least allows others to be aware to steer well clear of your establishment. You really should learn some basic service skills or find another vocation.

Stopped here with a friend at mile 93 of a 150 mile bike ride. We ordered 2 vegetarian sausage lunches and 2 coffees but when we asked politely to have our water bottles filled up we were told there would be a charge of £1.20 per bottle as thats what they charge for a glass of tap water. As a pub with an alcohol license, this is a breach of the licensing act as they are legally required to provide free tap water to combat the effects of drinking. They can't even claim a service charge for the glasses because we were asking for our own bottles to be filled. We will be contacting the local authorities to report this and hope that they are taken more seriously than we were... On the bright side, the chips were delicious and the vegetarian sausages not bad either!

This was the second year we booked for Christmas eve lunch. Good selection on the menu and because there were 24 in our group we were asked to pre order. Not a problem just to ensure that no one was disappointed. We were aware that the food couldnt be served all at once due to the size of our group and every body asking for different meals. We have a wheel chair user amoungst us which the owner Christine had been advised and on arrival i was advised that the patio doors had been unlocked and a place set nearby for convieniance. We were given a room at the back for our own use and to be honest we were a bit noisy. Food was served and was to a good standard with good servings. for my birthday recently my husband took me and two friends to the Witham Tavern for an evening meal. We were told that Tuesday was a very quiet night, and only a handful of other diners were eating but it didnt bother us at all. We were looked after by a very pleasant young lady who attended us very courteously. We ordered our main course, skipping the starters altogether. As you get older, your appetite is not so robust, and we hoped then we might make room for a dessert. Very pleasant music played, and was nicely set at a volume over which we were able to chat without missing out on conversation which is often the case in some restaurants. The decor is very easy on the eye and most comfortable dining chairs to sit on. I had established that there was a choice of vegetarian dishes available as both my husband and friend do not eat meat. They were spoiled with half a dozen choices but was assured by Christine, the owner that her chef could accomodate any request within reason!. My husband chose mushroom stroganoff, and our friend, vegetarian lasagne. Her meal was accompanied with chips and salad. My husbands stroganoff came with a nicely placed dome of rice, and salad garnish. Our other friend and I chose a steak, his being accompanied with chips onion rings, and mushroom. As i do not like mushrooms I had peas instead along with chips which were beautifully crisp and dry, and the best onion rings I have ever had!!!! There were four very clean plates at the end of our main course, and we each said how good our meal had been. We checked out the dessert menu, and although I never normally have sweets, I opted for the sticky toffee pudding with custard. Our friends both had the Tenessee ice cream pie with pouring cream ( there was a choice of whipped or even ice cream! ) and my husband had a calypso coffee. He had to help me out with the pudding though as it was a generous portion served with a copious amount of custard.the only reason I have not rated this meal with 5 stars is that I had selected the Masala cream sauce to accompany my steak, but it was not available owing to not having the wine, but apart from that we were very pleased with the whole meal. Thare are some rumours circulating that the Witham Tavern is closing down. This in my opinion has probably been started by a disgruntled competitor. I do know that Christine has made plans for her future retirement but she assured us that she is most certainly not clsing down and I would strongly recommend you to try here for a meal and judge for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Thank you also Christine for my birthday treat!! We look forward to seeing you on the 11th October for Sunday carvery. I cant wait!!

We had booked a family meal for 10 for Easter Sunday. We arrived only to find we were not sat together but had separate tables of 5. I explained to the owner that we assumed we would have been sat together. She got very irate insisting that they have no time to accommodate such large bookings as it wasn't set up for functions. I again explained this was just a 'family' meal to which she then suggested we go elsewhere if we wasn't happy. I explained we don't feel as though we should as after all we booked 'a table' for 10 but now it feels we were not out together as we were having to sit apart. She flared up in anger and stormed off. I've never experienced such an unbelievable attitude before ever in any eating establishment. In the end we noticed another group of unhappy customers who were split over 3 tables moving their tables together themselves. We also did this (why they never did this is beyond me). Carvery was ok, custard on the puddings was watery. Overall service from younger staff was very professional... maybe the owner should follow their example!

The Witham Tavern provides an excellent setting and atmosphere for families or couples! Having dined on a few occasions I can say that the food is amazing! The hot rock steak is my fave, and a must try for me! The starters are always so tasty and well presented all home made same goes for desserts! With the pub facing out into the river, it's lovely to have a drink outside on the seating area.. whilst you wait for your dinner to be served. Staff are always friendly and polite. A must go for me!

Having been to this pub/ restaurant many times with my partner and also our extended family, I must say that the food and service has always been exceptional. They are always welcoming and the food very good. The steak nights along with the other specials like the Italian nights( Friday) two meals plus a bottle of wine for £20 are value for money. We will continue going there for many more happy times, well worth a visit, the pub overlooks the marina and on a sunny day it's like being at a seaside retreat. Well worth a visit

My partner had been given a voucher to spend in the pub as birthday present so we decided to try the steak night. The pub wasn't very busy and we were quickly shown to a table after brandishing the gift voucher. The young waitress was either new or just inexperienced but pleasant. I ordered a pint of cask beer and my better half had slimline tonic, the beer was excellent and excellent value at £2.50 for the pint. We placed our food order, I requested garlic mushrooms in a creamy sauce and my better half had the prawn cocktail, both enormous and good value at £3.95. My partner ordered the turf and surf and I the 10 oz rump steak. Both steaks were cooked to our liking but mine was chewy and my partner's was tough and after a struggle left most of it. The landlady asked re the steak and went to the kitchen to try it herself, she agreed that it was sinewy and hard to cut. We were not charged for that steak and then we went for a stroll along the riverside. This was our third visit here and it proved to be the worst, but we hope for better if we call again.

Two soups ordered and sent back as they were almost solid. Main courses were ok but had obviously been pre cooked and re heated. "Chef" was new , 1st day, but one wonders if he had ever seen soup before. Room was empty apart from us, a sign to the landlady maybe that all is not as it should be ?

After a lovely walk by the riverbank supper here was brilliant. Not knowing the local beer we were offered a little of each to try before deciding and it was great. Wonderful moist crisp fish and chips outside watching the world go by served by happy and efficient staff. Even the dog had ice cubes in his water bowl! Can't wait to return.

Having been before and was not impressed we thought we would try it again as they had a new chef, my husband had the special rump steak at £7.95 it was the best he's had for a long time and I can say the same about my chicken. We have also had Sunday lunch there at £5.95 great value for money.

This was such a disappointment, the menu is so boring....the service is robotic and the atmosphere is cold and unfriendly. What a shame such promise, right next to the river, desperately needs an injection of new life

Having not been to the pub for a few years I decided to give it a try after hearing good things around town. I decided to try the Black Rock Grill which was fantastic and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone who loves eating steak. It was also refreshing to see a pub selling locally brewed cask beer instead off all the usual brands. The staff were also very friendly and professional. We will defiantly be visiting the pub again.

We were out to celebrate a birthday with a quiet meal. The birthday girl and myself had garlic mushrooms, served on a slice of toasted ciabatta and my better half had a prawn cocktail, served on a small slice of bread. All three starters were nice. I ordered the steak and ale pie, my partner had the special of pork with a pesto crust and the birthday girl had chicken a la crème. My pie was a tad small and slightly overcooked but the chips and the presentation were very good. My partner's pork was very rich but nice and the chicken was good too.My pint of cask beer was excellent and the service was very attentive too.

Went this evening 10th June 23, we have friends coming over next week and was looking for places to visit with them. What an absolute s**t hole The beer tasted like vinegar, children in the bar, no evidence of food being served. The place was utterly filthy cobwebs stained brown they were that old. We should have taken heed before we went in, we commented on all the dead hanging baskets. Didn’t finish our drinks, husband left his because it was so bad. Avoid at all costs, I don’t understand why so many good reviews it’s awful, in fairness we didn’t sample the food. Woman behind the bar was pleasant enough.

Lovely Friendly Staff, warm and welcoming, and really grateful they allowed our little dog inside as well. Service 5 ***** Food 5 ***** We had the OAP specials of Fish, Chips, and a Drink Included which was plentiful and delicious. Would Highly Recommend 😃👍🏻

We haven't been here for years but decided to try it again after our usual diner was closed and we were pleasantly surprised. Same friendly family service and same competitive pricing as we remembered. I had the eggs Benedict and they were nearly perfect, eggs not quite runny enough but the quantity, quality and pricing were right. My partner had a toasted tea cake and we both had drinks, mine a cappuccino and my partners a pot of tea for one that actually provided sufficient for three. We will be back again in the near future.
