Wishing Well Tearoom in Wealden

This tea rooms is on the main A27. The car park is at the back for those who may easily drive past! The day we went only one person was serving but what a great job she did of it. Sandwiches were excellent, plenty of filling and the best ingredients, a terrific choice of cakes all served with a lovely manner. Would we go back again? Without a doubt. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

This place is quite a mixed bag. The food and cake we had were very good, but the service and presentation of the tea room and garden were so poor that it was hard to justify a higher score. I love the fact that the place was so child friendly, but it was a mess. Having to move and step over toys in the garden on the way in wasnt a great start. It was very quiet on the day we visited with only 4 other customers at one table, and yet the staff were happy to stand and chat whilst we waited 20 minutes just to place our order. The order was very slow to arrive but was very tasty when it did. If this was a review just about the food, I would be very happy to give it 5/5. However, the customer service was so poor, and the place just felt very messy. It feels such a shame and a waste, especially as the staff themselves were lovely and so was the food. There seems to be no awareness at all of the customer experience. A good tidy up, declutter and some interaction with the customers is needed. Unlikely to return sadly.

Very disappointing, scones were awful. Very unwelcoming. Garden was like a play area. Kids tea parties now seem be the focus. We have visited many times under previous owners, introducing many friends, but we won't be returning.

Not a good experience at all. Nice coffee, awful raw expensive scone , with cheap jam. Couldn’t eat it. Not very friendly or welcoming and no wishing well!

3 of us came in & had a deluxe afternoon tea, I love that you get a choice of sandwiches, cake & scones, you also get a slice of tray bake. There was a children’s party in at the same time, we were sat in a table away from them, I must say their childrens afternoon tea looked delicious as well. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great place for lunch/tea. Food fantastic, cakes to die for. Lovely garden to sit out in the sun, inside good too if poor weather. Will definitely return.

Such a sad thing to happen during a much needed holiday. We ordered the £21.95 “Deluxe High Tea” for two, costing £43.90. We immediately had to send one sandwich back because it had a black hair in. A replacement never arrived. The sandwiches were meant to come with pesto and didn’t have any in. The mozzarella in each sandwich was tiny. We didn’t get any drinks and had to go back in and ask for them. I asked the waitress if we could please have our drinks and mentioned that the tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwiches didn’t have any pesto in. The cakes were also not the cakes we had asked for. The waitress asked us what we wanted to do and my husband decided we’d actually just like a refund, as we had only eaten half a sandwich. Which we said we would pay for. It didn’t feel very “deluxe” for £44. Next minute I was asked to wait outside as the manager wanted to speak to me. She came rushing out the kitchen and slammed our money on the table! She snapped at us “I made those sandwiches myself and I’m happy with them!” “You can have your refund, but if you’re rude to my staff then you can just leave” I asked her how we’d been rude. She was about an inch away from my face and was extremely hostile. She didn’t answer. I couldn’t have been more surprised, as the reviews about this place are amazing and we’d been looking forward to it for two days. We were in NO WAY rude. Simply asked for our drinks (which come with the cream tea) and pointed out that the sandwiches weren’t quite right! Are we not allowed to ask that?! The manager said we should count ourselves lucky that they don’t charge extra for gluten free as it costs them “£5” more per person. Really? Does that mean we should expect less care, kindness and quality and accept that bits will be wrong or missing, because they’re really doing us a favour?! She stomped off back to the kitchen. Really quite unbelievable.

We had our daughters 5th birthday here and we all had the most amazing day. Nothing was too much for the team and they prepared everything perfectly for our daughters special day. The food for the party was delicious and personalised for the theme. The setting is perfect for a birthday party. The team were absolutely fantastic and we are so grateful that they enabled us to have the perfect birthday party. And finally birthday cake was fabulous and tasted amazing. This delightful tea room is the perfect place for a quiet afternoon tea. There were a range of sandwiches, several varieties of homemade scones and numerous delicious cakes to choose from. Our teapot was topped up as many times as we wanted and we spent a relaxed afternoon with friends celebrating a birthday. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful adding to the pleasure of the visit. We certainly need to visit again to try a different flavour scone and cake. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Just had a lovely cream tea at the Wishing Well Tea Rooms. We were impressed by the choice of flavoured scones and the variety of different cakes. We had three different types of sandwich which we really enjoyed. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Everything was done with a smile! Now we’ve found it we’ll definitely be going back.

The Wishing Well has changed hands since my last visit but it was good to find that it is still very much a local gem! It is clean and bright, the food is homemade and delicious, the decor attractive and the staff welcoming and friendly. The perfect place for coffee, lunch or tea!

After enjoying delicious cream tea with home made scones and coffee cake knew it was the place to return with mum for lunch. Was tempted to have the cream tea again as it was so good but jacket potato was delicious. Will now need to take father in law so I have an excuse to try other items on the menu. The tea room entrance is hard to spot. Although the sign is large the tea room is very secluded. The entrance is on the left coming from Eastbourne just before a junction. The food and drinks were very good and the staff could not have been nicer. As it was a warm day it was nice to sit in the garden under a shade and enjoy the ambience. The toilet was very clean and easy to access. The car park has easy access to the tea rooms. The cakes were very light and had some unusual combinations within them. We will visit again.

This place is delightful. We stopped here for afternoon tea and weren't disappointed. The lady who served us couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. The afternoon tea choices were great and presented beautifully. Although it is very close to a busy main road the traffic wasn't distracting. It is also not far from the long man of Wilmington so perfect if you fancy a nice walk.

On visiting the Tea Room we received a most warm and friendly welcome.It has a most varied and tasty menu, after much deliberating our choice was the Wishing Well Long Man Cream Tea. What a wonderful feast, so much so we could not eat our final piece of cake so we were given a special take away box. This lovely Tea Room also has outside seating and magnificent views of the Sussex Downs. It truly is "an absolute delight"

This tearoom has always been a favourite of ours. Everything about it we have always found delightful. The food, the setting,the lovely garden the owners -always.We have walked over the beautiful countryside around there for years and finishing up at The Wishing Well for tea.Always excellent.We rely on public transport and live in Seaford.There is only one bus from Seaford to that area which runs hourly at weekends in the summer months.We haven't been able to do the walking lately and 2 weeks ago took the bus out arriving at the Wishing Well at 4pm only to be told that they were closing.This was disappointing and surprising.4pm is teatime.Surely far too early to close on summer weekends.We had to wait on a seat in the village for the hourly Seaford bus to come round.It's not something we will do again! This tearoom deserves 5 stars but I cannot award that when it's not open during teatime.

We have passed this tea room many times but it has not always been open due to seasonal opening hours. We were just passing and this time it was open and will be throughout the summer. It opens every day other than Monday and Tuesday's. What a great coffee stop we were warmly welcomed and were seated straight away. We had coffee ( latte ) and fresh warm home made scones with jam and cream. There was a good selection on the menu from hot meals, toasted sandwiches, jacket potatoes, cream teas and lots of fresh home made cakes. We will definitely be returning to try other menu options.

Lived in area for over 25 years and first visit with my mum. Friendly welcome, amazing food. We both wanted to try scones and panini's. The owners were amazing and split the order on 2 separate plates. Beautifully laid out and a really lovely olde world experience. Can't wait to go back. Stopped here for a mid long-journey meal break. First time we've visited the Wishing Well. Tempted to return for a post-diet celebration to sample the cakes, which will prompt a new diet!One of those 'tardis' like buildings - the tea-room is scarcely big enough to swing the proverbial cat, yet there is seating for 30 customers. The walls are covered with local art of 'nature', the 'Long Man' and coastal views. There is a delightful rendering of the sand-dunes at West Wittering (another good reason to return).I had, before our visit, thought that salad and crisps on the side of sandwich orders were a Kentish feature. Now, we know better. We'd earnestly wish a simple white-wine vinegar + olive oil dressing replaced the dressing currently being served.Discovered belatedly that the current Tea-Room is a re-incarnation of an older version, which suggests a nice line in continuity.The most appealing aspect other than the obvious sincerity when asked if the sandwiches were to our liking was the hand-written bill. A VERY WELCOME TOUCH!

Revisited this tea rooms after a gap of two years, with a group of French people. The tea rooms had changed hands, but I needn't have worried, the high standard has been maintained, if not bettered! We devastated the displays of delicious home made cakes. I was particularly delighted with the savoury scones with cream cheese and mini tomatoes. As before a HUGE range of tea. Friendly and efficient service, coupled with delicious food make this tea room a must.

12 of us had afternoon tea here. We were a big party but were dealt with so completely efficiently. The hosts are charming and pleasant; as is the location, not to mention the scones! There was plenty of jam and cream with the scones. So many choices of teas and cakes, savoury and sweet dishes. A lovely setting at the foot of the downs, suffers a little from noise from the A27 but not so seriously that this should stop anyone visiting there. Good car park but turning right back on to A27 can be dodgy at peak times, better to turn left then, a few yards on, first right do a u turn and come back in to the flow of traffic from the side road. Best to go when the traffic is light.
