No reviews since 2019? Hmmm.... After a morning strolling around the truly lovely gardens here, Winthrop's is a great place to grab a drink and something to eat. Although the menu is limited, it all seems to be homemade and is very reasonably priced. The cafe is a nice place to sit and enjoy your meal, and there's an attractive terrace for warmer days. At peak times, the queues can be quite long and service seems a little slow, and when we visited a touch chaotic, but these are minor quibbles.

We stopped for lunch when exploring the gardens. The menu offered a good selection of hot meals and all looked nice and home cooked. The chicken one pot was full of fresh veg, the baked potato was lovely and fluffy and the egg mayo rolls was a generous portion. Ordering is a little confusing as the tills are in a small space so people tend to mingle rather than queue. Service was swift and overall we were impressed.

While visiting the gardens we called for lunch. Lunch is served 12.00 -2.30pm. It is not very clear that you order at the counter, queue’s build up because the same counter is used to make your drinks and serve cakes. We ordered and our meals were brought to our table quickly. My husband chose the jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise, I had the jacket potato with cheese and our daughter the Quiche, new potatoes and coleslaw. We then had scone and jam and coffee and hazelnut cake. All of our meals and cakes were very fresh. There is a small amount of indoor seating and some seating outside. It is very small considering it’s popularity.

Stopped on our way home for lunch. A lovely place to stop, varied choices of meals and snacks. Lovely setting and very helpful staff happy to accommodate various food options. We had tuna jacket potato and coleslaw and salad which was very nice. Would definitely return if in the area.

We visited the cafe towards the end of their lunch service on a Friday (meals service finishes at 2:30pm). Meals were prepared and brought to us quite quickly. The food was very good (we had salads) and reasonably priced.

We visited the cafe after a long walk in the rain. Cold and hungry we ordered the chicken and veg one pot and macaroni cheese along with slices of cake from the lovely friendly ladies in the cafe. Everything lived up to their moto.

The cafe is a lovely place to stop for a quick lunch while touring the gardens. The ordering system was not obvious (to this foreigner) and the system for ordering took a long time. Once I ordered, though, my food was delivered quickly and was very good. (I had the ratatouille and it was a huge serving.) The cafe is very convenient to the gardens.

We're regular visitors to the gardens at Hidcote and almost always stop for something to eat/drink at the cafe. We usually choose to eat early so no problems with queuing and find it to be excellent value for money - difficult to compare with restaurants/pubs in Chipping Campden. Staff are always very friendly too!

All in all our experience at Winthrops was disappointing. Yes...it was busy but the queuing and ordering of food seemed a little disorganised. It is necessary to find a table and then order your food by joining what, on our visit, was an extremely long queue. Although there were some notices, many people didn't realise this possibly because the length of the queue extended past one of the signs. Secondly there appeared, at first, to be only one person working at the counter. Another person did appear but that seemed to add to the confusion. Various hot meals/snacks were indicated on a board. Unfortunately, the board was not updated so when we finally made it to the counter, the choice for two of us wasn't available. 45minutes later when we were leaving, customers were asking for our original choice and being told it wasn't available...why not take it off the board?

Having walked for several hours around the gardens, we were ready for lunch and decided to stay on site and visit Winthrop's. The food was reasonably priced and excellently prepared and presented - both my wife and I had onepots - her's being a coconut curry and mine a chicken and vegetable. Very tasty and worth having. The staff that brought the food to the table were great - no complaints at all.

My wife and I had a very disappointing Sunday lunch here. Firstly after having to queue for 10 mins to place our order I was very frustrated to be told that the Roast Pork had sold out at only 1:15pm! If you're advertising Sunday lunch I would expect it to be available until at least 2pm!! We then chose quiche as an alternative but although this was reasonably tasty it was served cold with a very unappetising salad. I know that on the particular Sunday we were there it was exceptionally busy due to special circumstances but surely this can be planned for? This was not the standard that we usually expect at the National Trust, very disappointing all round.

The visit to the Hidcote Garden was complete with a lunch or tea at he Winthrop's Cafe. The ambience was relaxing, perfect on a sunny day. I can see everyone at the outside seating enjoying themselves. Try out the Shepard's pie and the macaroni and cheese, and the scones (1.5pounds) of course!

There is nothing better than walking round this beautiful garden in glorious sunshine and coming across this lovely cafe with a superb range of salads hot foods and sandwiches . It is in a great setting with outdoor seating which we took advantage of . Good specials on the boards and although busy the staff keep the place ticking over very well Talking to the table next to us who were NT members and local .they come here all the time for the food as much as the garden

A decent hot chocolate and a sweet man behind the counter, but the individual chocolates are not made on site and are overpriced.

A lovely tea shop on the High St. I sat outside the front on the limited pavement seating. The staff were lovely and the food well presented. The pasty was though expensive and there was no wow factor. The ice bun was heavy and sticky. The coffee was delicious. Would return but not spend so much.

Nearly broke my tooth on a cherry stone in the bakewell slice, very expensive compared to other local tea rooms and staff looked scruffy.

Stayed at Lower Mill Estate for three nights at the beginning of January, preempted a Sunday roast and booked for four adults and two children on Sunday afternoon at 14:00. Seated early which was great but a long time between ordering and actually receiving our meals. In the interim we were advised that they had run out of chicken breasts for the Sunday lunch, albeit disappointing but cannot be helped. I did not catch the waiters name but he offered us some complimentary olives which were gladly received. Four roast dinners arrived at the table and two children’s meals, all ok except the beef was inedible. One served as rare but I was unable to cut it even after asking for a second opinion from my husband, it was mostly fat. The second asked to be cooked well done was just a burnt end again completely inedible. The waiter did ask if everything was ok with the food but by the time we received it we were past the point of wanting an alternative if it was offered. Following this we waited for fifteen to twenty minutes to have a gin and tonic and a pint of lager in a near empty restaurant so we gave up before we were given the chance to ask for dessert. An okay experience by all accounts but the time waiting and the meal offered for the price made us question whether we will return. We may have been unlucky but just left a dampener on an otherwise lovely stay here.

Best tea place I have ever visited, all the people are great, best customer service and they excel at making a positive and vibrant atmosphere while incorporating humour through out place. Food is great with great scones and cake, and tea.
