Everything, from start to finish, was perfect for both the meal and the overnight stay, as you might expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. Evenings, it's a fixed 8-course "taster" menu (they do a la carte at lunchtimes). Small portion sizes, miniscule in some cases by others' standards, but exquisitely cooked and presented, some pictured below. We went for the wine option where WFs also chose us 7 glasses of matched wine, almost one per course, of which our favourite was the peach-scented Solaris from the Ovens Farms winery in Harrington (not Harrowgate), near Louth, Lincolnshire! Because we booked early, we got the choice of all the rooms and of course chose the suite, The Burkhill Suite, luxuriously fitted. Everything was very impressive, the little things impressed my wife the most, like 1) real milk in the overnight tea & coffee stand (in a bucket of iced to keep cool) not UHT milk, 2) lovely table decorations in the shape of a tree, made out of champagne cork wire (see pic) and 3) a printed list given without asking at checkout to remind us what all those courses were and the wine that went with each. An expensive but worthwhile night, and breakfast was also impeccable, in a different, but also well-decorated, dining room. The staff were delightful, not pretentious as you get in some similar places. On questioning, our nice lady server said they get the 10% non-compulsory service charge (which my wife, a waitress during her teens in a high-class dining room said is not always the case) we were happy to pay.
Visited with a friend for the first time yesterday evening, 13/9; the food was superb, immaculate presentation, and the staff were charm itself, helpful and friendly; I highly recommend this luxurious establishment: faultless!!!!!!! I will try the lunch next time
