Shocked to read poor reviews as we had a wonderful time. The food was very good. Opted for the game stew, raclette, truffle fries, risotto and the house salad. Great service and a fabulous atmosphere.

Got shown to our table, which felt like it was on a boat in rough weather due to springiness of the floor, and was asked if anyone had any allergies (well done for that) and then took our order. The starter came and the server had no idea who had the allergy and gave the food to the wrong person which we rectified. We had barely finished our starter when a lady brought to our table some rosti bites (which had been ordered) but nothing else from our main meal. When this was pointed out I was asked if we wanted them kept warm rather than bringing fresh out. The main course arrived and my Matterhorn burger was very dry and the fries tasted like they had come from a cut price supermarket so I ended up leaving half the meal. The game stew was apparently very rich and also wasn’t finished and the fondue sharer was described as too runny and not “gloopy” enough. All in all not a very good experience and definitely not worth the hype.

Poor service, food was OK but not great would have been better off eating off a stall in the market. The pictures in the window looked nice.

We had read varying reviews and approached our midweek lunch with some trepidation. This was enhanced by not being able to find the staircase to the restaurant behind a guarded plywood panel in the bar, by someone, who looked like a customer. However our welcome when we did get there was pleasant and things then bettered our expectations. Service was speedy on all fronts but a bit too anxious to please and check everything too many times. First shock was everything on disposable plates and glasses but realised this was really their only option in a pop up situation. Negronis were ok but needed ice. Risotto starter was tasty with unexpected crunchiness but a bit cool, my husbands salmon was good and well presented. Husbands game main course was excellent but my cheese dish was lacking in seasoning (I had declined the continental meat option). My Apple strudel was ok but not as good as my husbands Mont Blanc. Wanted sparkling wine but they had run out and also an alternative. The wines we ended up with were fine but not what we intended. The place was a bit cool, given the sudden cold weather and many guests who had taken off jackets and coats, were putting them back on. Reading this you might think we were not happy with our experience but in fact we came away having enjoyed a reasonably priced (£78) meal with wine and relishing the different Christmas experience.

Lacklustre and uninspiring food and presentation. Mediocre service, felt like no-one was really bothered. Toilets were like those at a festival, outside and no lights so pitch back and liquid(?!) all over the floor Dessert described as Mont Blanc with glace fruits & chestnut and meringue seemed like it was just hazelnut ice cream in a sundae glass with some meringue chips sprinkled over and was a real let down. The interior was nicely presented but overall felt like a bit of a swizz

Booked for 26th Nov with £60 deposit for four people. Had to cancel due to train strikes with lots of notice. Many emails and enquiries later after their email asked us to get in touch for alternate booking, We are unable to re-book due to availability when we can go. This may have been different if a timely response was received. Really poor customer service. They have your money and can re-sell the slot.

We went excited to try this in the Christmas spirit and based on the reputation of the Starr Inn. Racketeering melt down seemed to have been pre prepared and reheated. Burger was ok but nothing special. No coffee available with deserts. Only wines. £30 required to book. No refundable if canceled.

Having rebranded the hotel recently and therefore this restaurant the new place was thoroughly disappointing. We went here as part of York Restaurant week. Part of the voucher was to get 2 courses each. The main dishes were bland to the point I didn’t finish mine. The dessert was stale. I’m not one to leave desert uneaten but this one I had to. After telling the waiter this, all he said was he would pass it on to the chef. It’s not somewhere I would return which is a shame given the beautiful premises.

Alice’s customer service was perfect, we order our food and Alice came over with our food 15mins later and the food was really nice. Half way through she came to check if we needed anything and then gave us ample time to sit and chat before politely asking if we wanted our plates taking away. Really nice, polite, professional and on the ball. So thank you Alice!

apesar do ambiente ser agradável a comida deixou a desejar mas também não é despressível , mas quando você viaja parece que você quer o melhor com preço baixo e nem sempre é assim

We had to wait 40 minutes in an empty restaurant for tiny, mediocre food. We had to shout for someone to pay as there were 0 front of house staff the entire time. Will not recommend as the passion for the place is clearly gone. Go elsewhere

Probably the best Turkish food I have ever had in York. Highly recommended.
