Winking Willys Fish & Chips in Scarborough

What a disappointment. Having checked on Facebook / Messenger that the restaurant allowed dogs in and getting a positive response, I ventured in with my small, well-behaved dog. I was shooed out the premises being told they don’t accept dogs. Despite me saying that they had been contacted and had confirmed that dogs were allowed, all the staff there denied all knowledge of this, saying they never allow dogs in, except guide dogs. They came up with many excuses - no wi-fi, been on holiday etc… but no one even acknowledged that their facebook account manager said they allowed dogs. The staff were down right rude. Obviously, the person running their social media and the staff in the establishment don’t have any communication. Can’t comment on the food as I didn’t eat there, due to having a dog with me! A place to avoid.

Quality fish and chips on the coast at Scarborough. The meal I had felt fresh, and this was reflected in the taste, which was equally, if not more deliciously.

Visited with family fish and chips were ok but nothing special. The curry sauce was watery and tasteless luckily I hadn’t poured it on my food before realising. My son wanted battered sausage and chips was told they only serve plain sausage in the restaurant when we questioned why we couldn’t have it battered as the takeaway served them the waiter replied you just can’t. But why for what reason? Probably wouldn’t return.

First time visit on a horrendous day weather wise so it was good to get in the warm,I had the Willy's super 6 which consisted of lemon Sole,cod,plaice, haddock,monk fish, scampi chips & mushy peas,all freshly cooked & would have fed two people easily,wife had cod & chips with a pot of tea for two,costing £34.40 for the two of us.We both enjoyed our meals served by friendly efficient staff,nice clean toilets upstairs, couldn't fault anything, would definitely go again next time we in Scarborough.

Back in Scarborough again for a few nights and this is my first night meal , Fishcake chips and peas - great as always , everything cooked to perfection, my only trouble was the damn seagulls 😀, will be back again next year 😀👍

Expensive for very small portions, having rated this place in the past won't be going again. We waited a while for our order to be taken, when the fish and chips came it was like a child's portion for the £36 for standard fish n chips and drink. But the worst of it was service !. We had barely put our forks down and the male server said "guess you ladies are done", I'll get your bill. We hadn't finished our drinks!. We were herded in and out like a cattle market. The lady on the till asked if everything was OK. To which we told her no we felt rushed. She said sorry but it's busy. I don't care how bloody busy you are !, it's a luxury to dine in somewhere now with the prices so at least you could provide decent portions for the money and good service

Chips wernt the best,fish wasn't the best and the gravy tasted absolutely vile...me and my daughter had to throw the chips that had gravy on away (literally half our chips) I'd never tasted gravy like it. Won't be going again,overly priced for not so great fish and chips!

Had the large fish and chips with gravy and shared with my partner. Food was good and enjoyed, especially the chips. Was a bit overpriced hence why we shared.

Visited on Saturday and the food was great however I was quite put off as it seemed the girl on the counter was picking her nose as she was stood. Even thought this did very much so put me off off my food I still enjoyed it and thought it was very delicious so I think that is good however it is bad to do that in front of customers

Our first time in winking willies but it will not be our last . The service was excellent and the fish and chips were delicious. This is now our favourite chippy in Scarborough

We popped here recently towards the end of the usual lunchtime period. We sat towards the back of the establishment but moved to one of the few window tables before placing our order. We had two fish & chip senior specials and one medium cod and chips (they'd sold out of large cod). We ordered these with mushy peas not realizing that these cost an additional 1,60 per portion. The meals came with a pot of tea for three. As the restaurant got quieter we had a little bit of time to chat to the lady who had begun clearing up at the back. All very good natured. The restrooms were upstairs and revealed another floor of tables and chairs with some nice views out over the promenade and harbour. This was closed to the public on the day we were there. In the end we left 50 quid here for this traditional seaside lunch. All good.

We picked this Fish & Chip shop at random but quality fish & chips! Best we've had in a long time! Highy recommended! Lovely 🐟 🐠 😊

Winkin Willy’s was always my go to chippy in Scarborough but the last two visits were disappointing and probably my last. The food just isn’t great; the fish tasted overdone and was mostly batter, the chips were bang average and the curry sauce tasted like something you’d buy at the supermarket. It was also very overpriced. I hope it improves in future, only then would I consider going back.

We were greeted in a very welcoming manner and were advised that balcony seating was available, as it was a lovely day we made our way to a table. We had to locate our own menu, but as its a fish and chip restaurant, we already knew what we were having. Service was quick and friendly. When the food arrived it was freshly cooked and hot. It was beautiful and well worth the price. The only let down was the tables on the balcony were old barrels, which were not comfortable to eat at as there was nowhere to put your legs and you ended up straddling the barrel.

Clean looking chip chop for a sea front...but that's the only positive. Over priced questionable piece of cod whose skin was thicker than the fish itself. When questioned about the £7.00 piece of skin was told uou could have asked for it skinned. Couldn't see any significant sign stating this, but if you'd taken the skin off there would have been nothing holding the fish together. Would never ever recommend this place but when on holiday some people will eat anything so this review won't hurt them. Disgraceful attitude from staff...a case of like it or lump it...

Awful smallest portion of chips ever had £2.50! Battered sausage also £2.50. Tray is half size of sausage and sausage put in first so less chips in tray. Normally chips in tray sausage on top. Lady serving absolutely miserable. Expensive soggy and rubbish batter waste of money.

Not great, the chips were greasy and some were hard, small tray for adults, the kids cone actually was a bigger portion, not that friendly also. not a patch on North Bay fisheries

I paid £2.50 for the smallest portion of chips, if there was 15 chips I’d be lucky. Curry sauce is vile nothing like I’ve ever tasted before. Family member had fish and said it wasn’t that good. Much better places to eat .

Very expensive to eat in for what you get average fish and chips sauces very expensive will eat out next visit nothing wrong with food just overpriced

Nice staff, yummy food, clean tidy, gave us a view. Only a small fault with forgetting part of order, but easy enough to knock off bill, so no issue. Would go again.

Terrible service and even ruder staff. After listening to the radio advert on local radio we decided to make a trip to willys as part of our family holiday. Ask to leave after ordering our tea and coffee and waiting 20 mins only to be told as we weren’t ordering food we had to leave. Even though there was at least 15 tables free. My elderly mother and disabled son were very much upset as it was a long walk from the car. Very very rude staff not a happy family avoid at all costs.
