First time eating here as we had heard they had new owners/chef recently. The food was very very good and much better than your average village pub. Really good pub classics but with everything done really well. The fish and chips I had was fantastic and everyone enjoyed their food. Service was good and overall pricing was very fair. We had the Vinho Verde wine with our meal and it was excellent.

First impressions lively pub atmosphere. Mainly drinkers. Surprised to find last orders for food was 8pm. A bit haphazard. Starters came, three were fine, missed ingredient off other. Corrected. Mains standard dishes, asked for mash, plate arrived with chips. Pies were all pastry hardly any filling. Lamb gravy served with beef pies. No grated cheese on cottage pie ( on menu) just all seemed a bit careless.

Excellent village pub with a traditional feel to the bar area with open fires on our visit. The formal dinning area is less rustic and a very comfortable space for dinning. We visited Sunday and had the Sunday menu, this menu changes every Sunday and it would appear it repeats itself every month. My rating out of 5 Service 5 Atmosphere 5 Comfort 5 Food 5 The food was delicious and a good portion size.

We recently had Sunday lunch here with our 2 children, grandparents and aunt and uncle. Beautiful pub with a great atmosphere. We were all very impressed with the food. We've had Sunday roasts in all the pubs in the surrounding areas, and this was by far the best. Perfect portion sizes and excellent value for money. The food quality was a step above the usual pub food. The staff were very friendly and they put a birthday candle on our daughter's dessert and sang happy birthday. Well worth a visit, we'll certainly be back.

Charming, old world pub, which has recently been taken over by new management and chef with apparently Michelin credentials. Got to say the food was delicious, priced well and very good service..informed by the manager that they hoped to refurbish the interior. Well worth a visit.

Excited to see the new menu advertised and keen to try it…. Only to be disappointed. Firstly, we were led to a table and left wondering what to do (handed no menu, offered drinks but server walked off before we ordered). Eventually given menus but without fish specials so all a bit muddled. Ordered one cottage pie and one lamb shoulder. Cottage pie was ok. The veg was (one large parsnip, very undercooked so much more than ‘al dente’ and a few carrots. The lamb was little meat but lots of fat around a bone and sitting on a ring of lumpy mash that had a weird taste and a handful of carrots placed around. Most of the meal was the lumpy mash. Wouldn’t recommend. I miss the hearty, simple but well cooked food that the Windmill used to do. This was not well cooked but was pretentious and not pulling it off. The quality wasn’t there. Walking out of a confused service, we noticed diners who had finished had left food on their plates - a lid of mashed potatoes went into their bin that night!! Hopefully this is teething issues with the new menu but my advice would be to get the basics sorted and cooked well. Don’t put ‘lipstick on a pig’.

Went for lunch with an ex work colleague in early July. The menu was quite wide ranging and also provided smaller portions at reduced prices. The service was friendly and very good throughout, whilst the meals were of good quality and provided good value. I personally found the small portion quite adequate. The pub/restaurant is in a rural village setting. The main restaurant is located up some steps although their are some tables at entry level. It has a good sized car park, although access, particularly exiting can be a little narrow.

A young girl served us in the garden which was packed by the way and she was following a lady,I think the landlady as she was very attentive towards her.but we have to say the food was fantastic and just the whole afternoon was great, will definitely be coming in as our local now.😃🍕can’t wait to order the new pizzas also.

What is going on at this pub? Theakstons has always been spot on, last few visits not great. At £ 4.70 it should be sparkling, I know some beers these days are deliberately sold cloudy but Theakstons Best Bitter is not one of them Please try also to provide a wedge of lime/lemon so that it the juice can be squeezed out instead of the tiny sliver provided at the moment.

Staff friendly & attentive though the Sunday roast was rather dull. No wow factor. The meat was lovely but only 2 small roast potatoes. In my opinion roasts should come with 3 as standard. The veg was very very basic, just cabbage & carrot. I was very surprised as I always considered this a high end pub with a great reputation. We will try other places In Future.

Nice restaurant, although a bit cold. Friendly staff but very inexperienced, never cleared tables, went back to the kitchen empty handed, yet 4 or 5 tables to clear for over 15 minutes. Plus the waitresses both had long hair and it wasn't tied back, so could easily get a hair in the food served, not professional. Food was nice, but couldn't order a sweet as could not get anyone's attention to clear plates and request a dessert menu.

We visited the pub for lunch with our family. I'm afraid never again. A beautiful pub and although the bar and restaurant was not busy we waited a considerable time to be served at the bar.The youngish blonde barmaid was mostly interested in chatting to regulars and then trying to make herself appear busy.Eventually another lady served us drinks so we tried to get the other ladies attention to order more drinks and food but she again seemed more interested in chatting away to her friends and locals than serving us (and another couple that walked in shortly after)! We waited a total of 10 minutes and were further dismissed so we left and ate in another nearby inn. A terrible shame.

Little acknowledgement that we'd arrived, bar staff were fairly sound and quick although drink selection was poor and gins were served with random fruit despite the menu stating carefully selected garnishes.Once at the table service was very slow even though the restaurant was only half full. a jug of water arrived, which had food on the bottom of it, so clearly hadn't been cleaned since it's last use; this was cleaned although no apology was given. We ordered food, including a blue steak which arrived medium at best, other food was satisfactory, a few dishes arrived with veg that was evidently left overs from Christmas day as included Brussel sprouts, parnsips and carrots that had been cooked a few too many times.Once meals were at the table not a single staff member checked to see if the meals were alright, things (including the steak) maybe could have been rectified if this had happened.Once the table was cleared of mains the waitress didn't ask if we had enjoyed our meals, some of which were still half uneaten.Won't be returning.

After reading positive reviews and looking at the menu online, we were looking forward to our meal at The Windmill. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the food on arrival, particularly the portion size. The menu stated home made chips with my husband’s choice - when his food arrived, they were more like frozen than home made. I ordered the butterfly chicken - the menu said this was served with a house salad; this amounted to about two small leaves, 1 slice of cucumber and a 1/4 of a tomato, served between the potatoes and chicken, so it was nice and soggy rather than fresh and crisp. They weren’t overly busy, but service did seem to take a while; the staff were pleasant enough, but the overall experience means we won’t be rushing back

We were lucky to pick a boiling hot day to have lunch here, We sat outside and never actually went inside the restaurant! We chose a variety of food - Steak lunch with the trimmings, ciabatta sandwich, vegetable pie and crispy beef - and each dish was delicious. There were girls outside making sure we had everything we needed, and serving quickly and effortlessly.

We went here on the friday with the wedding party,as there were thirteen of us we were required to look at the menu and order a starter and mains beforehand. On entering the pub it was packed but such a lovely welcome from the staff.two of us had the watermelon feta cheese and rocket, I had a Barnsley chop and my other half had the salmon we all had desserts, the food was spectacular we hardly had any wait between courses and the staff were excellent what a lovely evening this is a must as the food was superb I cant rate this pub highly enough.

As soon as you walk into the windmill, you can feel that there is a strong community. The place has an outdoor beer garden, which is good for sunny days. The interior is well decorated and the food is good and well priced. Overall, I would give this a four star review, as the food doesn’t quite merit that of a five star.

We visited with friends and had a great Sunday lunch. Plenty of vegetables ( we were asked if we wanted more) and really tender meat and extremely tasty gravy. We were with friends we had not seen in a while and we weren't hurried, though we took ages to order. Service was unobtrusive and yet we were checked on regularly to see that we had what we needed. It's a lovely traditional pub and was very clean. Not cheap and not expensive either. We will return.

Este magnífico pub inglés quintaesencial fue el lugar de nuestra primera cita, así que cuando tuve la idea de volver a visitar unos "pocos" años más tarde para nuestro aniversario, me sentí súper contento de que ahora tengan alojamiento.

We ate here with friends after several years since our last visit and had a cracking pub dinner. Super burgers and ace steak pie with rich gravy, washed down with excellent cask beers and wines. Staff friendly and efficient.

We had a large family meal on Friday night. The staff in the pub were fantastic both beforehand and on the night. The atmosphere was great, the beer and food likewise. Many thanks particularly to Donna for her hard work and to all of the staff. We could not have had a better evening,

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

I do not usually write reviews but I feel as though I have to after what I witnessed last night 28/11. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my food, I saw the fryer shouting at the gentleman on the Till area. I asked the young man if he was okay and I could tell he was getting upset. The chef was repeatedly shouting at him and telling him to go home and storming off and swearing at him whilst the gentleman did not respond and seemed to get upset. The worst part was that it was quite busy and the man on the till was obviously trying his hardest whilst the other gentleman working was seemingly walking around aimlessly, not helping, and doing nothing. I am disgusted by this, surely in this day and age abuse towards young staff should not be happening? After reading other reviews, I have seen that this is not the first time this has happened with the same Chef. Surely management has picked up on this? I was going to give the chef a piece of my mind but was concerned that it would only result in him shouting at the young gentleman further. I will not be returning when this man is working And I am advising friend and family to do the same.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
