Windmill Cafe in Dacorum

Cannot take a simple order / got food wrong twice and tried to say I had ordered it - Rude and bad ! Tea was cold by the time they had failed twice !

Had lunch here today and it was delicious and satisfying, good old fashioned food done properly and perfectly and beautifully prepared and served. Staff were very friendly and polite and attentive and excellent. Best breakfast for miles and best in Hemel Hempstead you’ve got to come here amazing food….

I have been coming to this cafe now for near 15 years, the staff are polite and friendly. At times the cafe can get very busy with locals and workers. The food is good and they use proper tea bag no cheap rubbish (no gray cups of tea here).

The food is ok, it’s very noisy, if you arrive after 2pm the staff clean up around you and are oblivious to the fact it’s 2pm and they advertise closing at 3pm. It’s extremely busy, which is good for business, but not good for myself… ship em in, ship em out attitude.

I have been using this café for just over a year. All online orders, with today being the exception - I decided to visit and sit in. It’s a very clean and tidy dinning area, staff member who served me appeared friendly enough. Service was prompt and the food was for the most part hot. I only have one criticism and that is where is the value? I paid £8 for my breakfast. A Bubble Special. - the portion of bubble was great, two little eggs (one appeared fresh and snotty - the second colder and hard), beans were a nice size (although not Heinz) and my biggest issue was the sausages. This set had two, as you can see by the photo - they are cheapest of the cheap “pork” sausages that have been chucked in a deep fat fryer on bulk I would imagine. They weren’t overly hot, not taste of anything. For a cafe that has got a lot right (burgers are amazing) and the place is pleasant to sit in. Charging high prices for low quality products is a massive put off. You’ve got a butchers 7 doors down!!! Get some proper sausages!!!! And a tin of Heinz beans!!

Love this place. It's the best cafe in Hemel IMHO and the breakfasts are fantastic. It's always busy for a reason!

Have been a regular in this cafe for over 25 years. Ordered chicken club no chips twice, 2 jacket potato's cheese and beans and 3 soft drinks and a coffee. Just under £33! Chicken club and chips is £6.60 but I asked for no chips so the owners took 60p off!!! Chips separately are £2 so more or less I was charged for the chips that I did not want! The new till does not allow them to take it off! She did argue with me but then insulted my intelligence by saying chips are 60p. The prices have gone up by £2 to £3 yet the quality of food has dropped. The eating in customers suffer with delayed food or incorrect orders as the delivery drivers take priority. No discount for the pensioners who use this cafe as a refuge from loneliness. Used to be an amazing affordable cafe but I'm afraid greed has taken over 😔

Windmill cafe is my favourite spot for a fry up locally to me The windmill special is delicious it’s what I always have with a cup of tea. My partner had a fry up with poached eggs which were cooked to perfection Love you windmill 😍

Always come here when I'm back in my home town and have never been disappointed! Service always excellent.. food always fab. Highly recommended

Amazing food and service. The quality of the food is very high , the portion size is great, not too much not too little! Not greasy! Great prices and always served with a smile by all the staff.

So, this cafe is actually like a transport cafe rather than a restaurant. That said, it's not an insult as it's a place where you know what you're going to get. The regulars are from nearby estates and single old people and as I pulled up outside 8.55 on a Sunday morning a queue had formed. You queue to order your numbered breakfast , pick up your knives and paper napkin and they will bring the food over . The breakfast cost £6.30 including a tea and was ok, if not a bit too greasy . I will go again when I have a hangover , but it's not a place to take the Mrs for her birthday !

Was really impressed with this cafes selection. Prices were not bank busting and quality was moderate f9r breakfasts atleast (i.e standard cafe sausages) BUT that being said tyey had loads of gluten free and vege options as well as the burgers which looked amazing on brioche buns and other meals which looked home cooked. Portion sizes really impressive too. Big variety and big portions at reasonable prices. Staff friendly too. Traveled a few miles to get there wasnt dissapointed.

30 minute wait for a bacon roll and the staff get rude about it . They earned their dreadful review. Customer service is shocking and The arrogance on them . Their not even that good a cafe . I'm never eating there again .

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat en route to an appointment.Had the 'scrambled egg special' - a huge portion consisted of 4 eggs scrambled, beans, mushrooms and two slices of toast. Came with a coffee (you can have tea/juice) and was just over a fiver.Good stuff, great value, and a wide range of choices. Was clean, and service was quick despite it being very busy. For a breakfast/lunch caff you couldn't ask for much more!

We stopped here on 5th Jan 2019 before going to watch Leverstock Green FC. We arrived at 13-30. Plenty of parking outside. The cafe has loads of tables and we found no issues getting one.

We forgot the breakfast so became hungry at about 11am. The Windmill was our favourite cafe while we lived in Hemel Hempstead. The cafe was full so we must to wait about 5 minutes to order and 20 for the food. We ordered grilled chicken and it was one of the best in this year. Big amounts of salad, rice, coleslaw, beetroot.

Famiky friendly and very generous portions. Food is very good and staff are very friendly! It’s the only cafe I go to in Hemel as I never get disappointed by the food! I would highly recommend this to anybody with or without family!

Well i have been using the windmill for nearly 4 years regularly. Never had a bad meal. Food it always fresh and portions are good. Their christmas dinners are fantastic and i love the variety of breakfasts daily specials sandwiches and grills. Many other items on the menu. They have vast amount of different cold drinks and coffees. The staff are wonderful and will do anything to help and are so kind. Ivery very highly recommend this cafe the best one in HEMEL HEMPSTEAD HERTFORDSHIRE.

You’re getting quantity over quality here and it’s far from the best cafe in Hemel but the place is clean and the staff are friendly enough. You get big portions and the food is alright (depending on what you order) there’s worse places and there’s better places. Stick to the fry up and you’ll probably be alright.

All I can say about here is wow. The portions are plentiful and food is amazing. Only lived her for a few months and only just found this place but it’s quickly become our favourite. Always busy and lots of dishes on the menu to choose from. They cater for all tastes, something for everyone!!

If you're after an excellent greasy spoon this place is perfect. There's a huge variety of reasonably priced food and big, steaming mugs of tea. I love it!

The Windmill is a simple no-frills casual diner and a favorite among locals. Order at the counter and wait at your table for delivery. There isn't much atmosphere, but the breakfast food means good cheap eats. Cappuccino is also available and its nice to sit out front to watch foot traffic---if you don't mind the smoking outside. Staff is friendly and there are two charity shops next door worth a look as well as a lovely florist on the square.

Cafe is clean and for a busy morning service was quick tea could be hotter but amount of food made up for this will be going back when time allows

Usually visit once a week and have never been disappointed. Good service and food quality very very good. Prices fair counter staff really good.

The food here is top notch all the main meals are home made the curry is to die for better than most curry houses it's the only curry my husband will eat all the grilled chicken dishes are lovley it's all lovley and very clean and great staff nothing is to much trouble for any of them pukka cafe.......

wow. first time visited here and loved it, we visited with a group of around 10 and was very busy, the staff were great and all smiley we all ordered from the set breakfast menu and it was all traditional proper English breakfast.

On a Sunday morning if we ever go out for a family breakfast this is normally the choice. Real Cafe cooked food and pleasant staff

Staff kind, clean, toilets clean. Not fine dinning but ok for a snack if you are shopping, always busy but Service is fast.

Ordered vegetarian breakfast was served veg sausages hash Browns mushrooms and ...bacon... After explaining bacon is not vegetarian to them they took it off and returned the same plate. Will not be going back

Very reasonable price for fixed breakfast. Lots of room, easy to park (early in the day) clean, fresh cooked food.Ideal for those after a wholesome meal.

Living in the US and visit when back in Hemel, this is such a great cafe, fab range of breakfasts, the Bubble (and squeak) breaky is just superb, large portions and reasonable prices, and even served with Lavazza coffee, amazing. Lunch with Shepard's pie or roasts are just as good. Clean, great portions, fast and served hot with a smile, I miss it already as back in Trumpland, a cafe that does the simple things really well, will be back soon.

Just been to windmill cafe there was a group of us and I must say very impressed friendly helpful staff all had different meals which all came out together and hot will defiantly be returning no issues with parking which is and added bonus 5 stars from us thank you windmill

Been to all the cafes in hemel all my life. Born in hemel and over the years there has been lots of new cafes opened but windmill is the oldest first that opened and to this day is still the best. The food people atmosphere and is clean all the time. Thank you windmill

this place is just the best cafe around hemel! it is always consistent and never disappoints in food quality or service. Everyone is so friendly and the experience you are left with is top notch! an example of how a family run business should be. Came to windmill cafe for the first time as i have heard so much about it since moving to hemel hempstead last year. And cant stop visiting. Its a traditional British cafe with great value and great breakfast. Very clean and the staff are really nice. It can get really really busy but worth the wait (if you have to) i would recommend to everyone as its hard to find a decent cafe now days and the windmill is defiantly top of the cafes iv been to.

Plain simple cafe food at great prices. The baked potatoes are gigantic and cooked breakfasts are great. Very busy but the staff are friendly and it is spotless. Free car park opposite with a parade of shops. Highly recommended

I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best cooked breakfast ever, I have had fancy hotel full english, gourmet versions and I always, always prefer the Windmill Cafe. Its good value, good quality and tastes amazing!

My husband and I often go to this busy cafe. The food is amazing and prices are good. It's our favourite cafe by far.

Good honest food and is always busy. My husband loves there bacon sarnie's and i can still get toast with marmalade or your favourite Marmite. . The full english is very popular. Place is very clean and staff pleasent. For a good honest cafe this is very good.

This cafe / restaurant has a good website so top marks for first impression. I read several reviews mentioning 'family run' and 'friendly' but that was not the impression made on us when we actually arrived. In fairness it was a rainy bank holiday but 'lifeless' 'bored' and 'felt like we were an inconvenience' are the descriptors from our visit. As Craig would say 'However..........' The food was excellent, delivered quickly, prices fair and the place is spotless.

If you like a large plate of food, this is the place for you. There is an extensive menu with food to suit all tastes. The food is freshly cooked, so there could be a wait for it, but it is worth waiting for and there are newspapers to read if you get bored. There is a dessert menu with hot and cold dishes and a few homemade cakes.The staff are friendly and efficient. The café has basic seating, but there are interesting photos of the town and neighbourhood from the past on all the walls. The meal we had was great value for money, however I wish they had a proper coffee machine rather than a press button one.

Cafe has been here for over 50 years and you can understand why with great food and service. Good variety on the menu and decent portion sizes

The Bacon sarnie served in here makes me smile even now. And I have not been there for years.Wait staff rude and abrupt. Made me feel lucky to be allowed in there. But the Tea was spot on.

I call into the windmill café for lunch and coffee at least once a week. The coffee is always delicious and the food is excellent and good value for money with plenty of choices. The café is always spotless and the food is served quickly. There are lots of parking spaces outside

We go for breakfast here every so often and are always happy with the food. 5quid will get you a huge meal and there is a massive choice for anyone not wanting bacon and eggs. Try the bubble and squeak- awesome!
