Windjammer in Castle Point

Just had lunch at this pub, all homemade, we all had different meals, all arrived at the same time steaming hot with a smile from the staff. Very chilled and pleasant atmosphere, the drinks at the bar are so reasonable. We had a window table with a view of the estuary, was lovely. Will definitely make it a regular place to visit. Highly recommend it.

I've been to the windjammer maybe a dozen times and never bothered to sing its praise . Each experience has been like a game of , "can this surpass the last " it's not finely decorated and that won't be the attraction . What needs praising is the menu firstly , with a variety of very reasonably priced dishes that exceed pub food expectations . It's attention to detail and full flavour that comes across . The views from the window seats are an accompaniment to the whole experience with cruise liners and freight ships passing along the Thames. Very tranquil . The drinks are , well .... cheap but as good as anywhere else . To sum up its butlins meets Barbados. Try it .

Traditional , yes it is so try . I like ❤️❤️ I don't frequent pubs cos I'm teatotal and haven't been a drinker . However I did try the ale and it was very 👍 good. And they make tea cos I tried the bar snac and bein on the sea front the air is great. I may conclude to visit and it's dog family friendly with clean and pumps serves great Guinness I can recommend. Great for any taste and caters for all .

Went here for the first time yesterday. Great Pub feel. Also great customer service too. Lady behind the counter 04/09/23 , fantastic customer service skills greeted me with a big genuine smile and was happy to serve me. Big bloke serving too came across lovely. Other Drinkers had great energy about them too. Pub feels as if it’s still on the 80s and I absolutely love the 80s. The 80s feeling pub is going to keep me coming back. Great energy. I only visited here for the first time yesterday. Pub has a 80s feel and I absolutely love the 80s. I’m not really a pub person but just by my first visit I absolutely love this place. Lovely bar lady and tall big dude behind the bar come across as a lovely warm couple. I do love their energy. Customers too seem lovely.

Very friendly staff and customers

Have been there twice, and both times have had a lovely experience. The food is so cheap and you get loads. We had about 8 big pieces of scampi, and chips are crisp and chunky. Drinks are so cheap in there. I don't know how they do it.

I went there a while back, and ordered the octopus. It was amazing. The pub has some table top games too.

Very much a old estate pub (didn't take card) . At least they had a ale on, was very quite on our visit . Plenty of outside seating so that was handy when visiting with a dog .

Visited the windjammer today our food wasn’t very good the only thing about it is hot and that only because it was cooked in a microwave poor presentation over cooked veg soggy pie if people thing this food is good them or there wife’s can’t cook plus sticky tables and unclean glasses

Visited this pub today after hearing many good things about the food. Can't say we were disappointed. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. The drinks were also good value and the staff very friendly. Free car park on site just across the road from the sea with great view points. Outside seating too which is perfect in the hour weather. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the Canvey Island area

We visit Canvey regularly every year and visiting the Windjammer a must. Mostly populated by building trades People. Good customers and create a good atmosphere , Im in my seventy's now and a retired Builder so this is ideal for me, Takes me back to the day when there where certain pubs that were regularly used by building trades and they created a jolly lively atmosphere ,sadly these pubs few and far between, Prices very competitive, Beer & Food. The landlord takes great care of his cellar and delivers a cracking pint. Be back soon, Five Star in my Book. J Cullen.

This is my local I use it at least 4 times a week and eat there too

I found the man on the door possibly the manager and maybe his wife very rude. They had a right go at me and then latter my son because we tried to enter without a face masks on. We were not aware of the change of rules. Only the 6 people from two households. They said there was a notice on the door. There are many notices on the door. Ie entry only two meter distance to name the ones I did see We got face masks and then they let customers get up and walk around without face masks and not said a word. When I questioned the lady about it she just huffed. Very arrogant people

There's plenty of space for parking. Seating available outside too. But cash only! We didn't stay as had no cash on us and didn't think it was appropriate since there's a pandemic going on...

Been here twice in a couple weeks for a break during a nice walk along the seafront. Sat outside with a drink. Plenty of seats available. Bar changes from upstairs to downstairs at different times of day. Cash only. Toilets are decent. Hand gel available. Parking facilities.

I am over 70 years now and in my youth in Brighton we had several pubs we considered to be communal , Where every one knew every one, and all where social drinking friends,not any more for whatever reason. but one still exists in Canvey Island, and every time we visit Canvey the windjammer a must, I really enjoy the comradeship and the friendship of all who attend making it a must and a success socially .A Feel Good Premises J D CULLEN.

Called in for a swift drink and a sandwich. Friendly welcome, drinks fine, excellent sandwich & chips and sat in a spot with a clear view of the Thames. Perfect respite from the sweltering temps outside

Nice evening with some old friends, loved the prices. Pub has unfortunately not changed in 40 years needs a refurb.

The pub itself, is very cosy but I find that certain staff can be a bit opprobrium. Also I find although most locals are nice, some people that seem to spend a lot of time drinking in there have come across derisive to me and my partner. Not the type of people I'd like to associate with. Although most pubs have the few people like that, it's made me want to change the pubs I go to. So I visited the windjammer which I thought was a calmer pub. Only to be once again let down by offensive people. Not just men but women too. I find I have been treated better by staff in all of the other pubs, so although you can't control who walks into your pub, unless they are violent or drunk before entering, I find id rather go to a pub with polite staff.!!!!!!

Good view over the estuary but above all the food is excellent is very good value and of good quality, a very basic lunch menu, these sort of pubs are few and far nowadays, I would advise a visit.

This used to be my local pub when I lived on Canvey island. I now visit for a daytrip every month or two. Usually we have lunch at the Windjammer. Has a lovely view of the Estuary. Great lunch for only around £5 per person! I would recommend the chilli con carne, with rice and salad. The ploughman's are lovely. Friendly staff, excellent value, clean.

Decent old school pub near Canvey seafront. Shows sporting events and football matches. Nice lunchtime menu served upstairs weekday lunchtimes. Decent selection of dishes, dinners, lighter lunches and fresh salads, and at a decent price. Good range of drinks. Space to sit outside if preferred.

The place is genuine, nice and welcoming. They don't take cards and didn't serve meals, but the beer was very good. I also enjoyed watching tennis on their large screens. The parking lot is decent, but don't use it for going to the beach.

Really pleasant, typical bog standard (and beautiful for it) local pub. Worth visiting if you don't want bells n whistles. Only gripe 😉 is they give you so much food on your plate you'll wish you had a bigger plate.

Wine and pint for £5.50 ! Ploughman's £4.50 whilst looking out on the Thames estuary . Well worth a visit

First rate place to relax and have a meal with estuary views across to kent countryside .very reasonable on their wide selection of ales and spirits i highly reccomend a visit

Used to drink (and eat) in here regularly. Moved away from the Island for a 8 years and recently moved back. Lamented over the homemade shepherds pie and triple cooked chips over a pint and an Estuary view to my wife enough times that we decided to pay a visit this lunchtime. It's almost a timewarp. True, not so many customers but the food is still homemade, and the chips are still that lovely triple cooked. Amazing value too - not many places you can get a lunch for 2 and a beer each for £12 - beat that, McDonalds! Think this is going to be a regular monthly outing.

Nice and friendly staff comfortable place to drink

this is the only local pub at the eastern end of the Island, so there is no other local for us as the Jellicoe has closed. Windjammer does a good range of beers , lagers and spirits and like most pubs seems to lose a lot of oeople after 9 pm at night, pleasant bar staff but music and telly a bit too loud for normal conversation. Still better than no pub at all.

JUST HAD A PRAWN JACKET POTATOE WITH SALAD. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL WITH HOME MADE COLESLAW. VERY REASONABLE. DEFENTLY WOULD RECOMMEND JUST WISH IT WAS OPEN LONGER 12 TILL 2.15 FOR FOOD UPSTAIRS

A nice local pub along the esplanade giving access to locals and day trippers. Nice pint and friendly service.

We visited this pub after being in another pub on the seafront and this was definateky the best place to get a drink. It is nice and quiet in this pub unlike the other places on the island. The staff were nice, the prices were OK, we did not eat here but the food looked nice, they had a TV to watch the sport but it was not too loud so you could have a conversation with each other. They only allow over 18's in there and you have to be wearing a shirt, this makes sure you get people who want a quiet drink in there. I will definitely be going back.

The most wonderful home cooked fresh lunch, huge portions for an amazing price well done really enjoyed our visit. Nice view from upstairs. Definitely recommend!

Having moved to Canvey around the corner from this pub it soon became our local. We was made to feel very welcome by staff and customers. It probably could do with a face lift if im honest but if that puts the price of the drinks up i'm happy for it to stay as it is, where else can you get a double spirit and splash for £2.80!!!! NO thats not a typo error £2.80. They also serve rolls in the bar which are £1.00. A few TV's on the walls for showing sports and free Wi-Fi is provided. Upstairs food is served in the week between 12-2pm which again is very cheap and of excellent quality. Outside seating is provided in the form of benches and these are always full in the summer. Car parking to the front provided for customers.

When something is dirty it becomes sticky, this place is very sticky, with poor decor, poor service and rude bar staff, especially this tubby blonde woman, suffice to say we aint going back

Good local seafront pub with all the trimmings. Close to seafront amenities and handy for beach and arcades. Fine selection of ales, wine and food.
