Wow wow wow. Since I’ve been on Canvey, I’ve found the food to not be good. I’m dead serious then…I came across this place, the girls are absolutely and friendly. The food is also cooked fresh. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Been going to islander for over a year now. But has changed last few months . Now never have cod bites no salmon so will find somewhere else

As usual the food was plentiful and well cooked.The staff friendly and efficient. Prices have risen recently but no more than you would expect with inflation as it is today. Recently refurbished, the seating is comfortable. and stylish. Hygiene is excellent and the location very central. All in all the best **Chippy* in town

We had fish and chips delivered and it was excellent. We were sceptical as didn't want soggy fish and chips but it was as delicious as going yourself. We ordered through the restaurant not just eat. We opted for no vinegar or salt to be put on it, adding it at home to give it a fighting chance. No complaints, absolutely crispy and delicious

A really lovely restaurant to eat in or take away. Great menu choice but the fish and chips are the star of the show, freshly cooked and traditionally made. Give The Islander a go if you visit Canvey 👍

First time we have tried the delivery service. Well worth the money. Cod arrived piping hot and crispy. Amazing chips. Highly recommended. Added our own salt and vinegar to keep it crispy. Order direct through the restaurant! Came within 25 mins and too hot to touch.

We'll I must say I am most impressed by Islanders Fish Restaurant. We order regularly through Just Eat from the Islanders. Always for delivery. Today I made a mistake and clicked for collection. Whilst I was trying to find phone number for Islanders they actually phoned me and said they knew I usually had it delivered and wanted to check I meant for collection. I explained it was an error so they will be delivering as usual. On top of that we always thoroughly enjoy our dinner from them it is always hot and tasty. Now that's what I call good customer service. *****

come in around an hour after they opened and got served, wasn’t really any interaction with me they was talking to another person majority of the time apart from when i had to pay, then had to wait 15-20 minutes for a small chips and saveloy not to mention it was more or less empty in there apart from me and another women, then when it was wrapped up she dropped my saveloy onto the side infront of the till and proceeded to serve me that, as i suffer with anxiety wasn’t very confident to say anything but ended up having to throw the saveloy as i am very conscious over my health, not good at all!

We bought takeaway cod and chips from here, yesterday and it was perfect!

In centre of town shopping area . Parking opposite in supermarket. Friendly staff who wanted to make a good experience. We had 1/4 breast of chicken & chips with side salad . Good value and tasted lovely. Went again April 2023 Another good experience. Fish & chips lovely best had in a very long time. Good portions .. Staff again friendly and caring about your experience. Got to be A+ Recommended

My Son and partner came for Easter, we were recommended to try there meals. after a day out on Good Friday we had already booked to be sure of getting a seat as always busy. We arrived at 5pm and were welcomed with a smiling waitress who show us to our table. We ordered our drinks which were swiftly brought to our table. Looking at the menu at the mouth-watering meals, my son chose good old fish and chips Lou his partner ordered half chicken and chips, i ordered grilled plaice and chips with mushy peas. All meals were freshly cooked and brought to our table by the happy smiling waitress. The food was excellently presented and nothing was to much trouble. We all enjoyed our meals that were freshly cooked and very tasty. Thank you for your team effort. Will return soon

OMG the food was fantastic, the service amazing...well worth the 30min drive! Plans already made to go back... We had seafood basket and cod and chips. Everything was hot, crispy, salad was fresh, portion sizes on point.

Best fish and chips I have ever had!

An excellent chippy. We really enjoy a visit here. The freshly cooked food is always of a high standard. I hate greasy batter and theirs never is. I highly recommend whether sitting down to eat of having a takeaway.

Best fish and chip restaurant for miles around. Also lots of other options on the menu. Everything is freshly cooked and served with a smile. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the staff go out of their way to provide an excellent service. We eat here regularly and every time is excellent.

Sat in. Best piece of Cod I've had in a long time, Chips and the rest of the meal were really good aswell. Staff were really helpful also.

Asked for chips in a roll, Stale Chips have been cooked for a while. And then refried. Couldnt eat them! Thought i would eat the roll anyway. But it was not there! It was 2.oo and the place was empty. Not a customer in site! The food has gone down hill since new people have taken over. They have much lower standereds than previous owners. Such a shame like a lot of other people we wont be going there again.

We had been here twice and had a fantastic meal and a great evening. Sadly we returned a few weeks ago and was turned away at 8pm and told we close at 9.30 !! How long does it take to eat fish and chips ? Even with all the trimmings. Sadly went back again Thursday, with the view if needed we could get take away. They close at 9.30 arrived at 8.35…. And closed. So that’s ya lot. No more ! If you continue like this you will go out of business. On the up side the restaurant next door has benefitted on more than one occasion.

The food was really nice and fresh

My husband and I went here and sat down at a 4 seater table. We was asked to move to a table for 2. I questioned why and she said the tables were for 4 people. There was 5 empty 4 seater tables in front of us. I looked behind me and saw approximately 5 or 6 tables which were 4 seaters. 2 of those tables had 2 people on one each table, I the said so why are they allowed to sit 2 on a 4 table and she just shrugged her shoulders. When we left all the seats were still available. So much for moving us for the so much needed tables. To fill the four seaters they needed 32 people which didn't appear. When you are spending £35 for a meal you should be able to sit where its more comfortable for you.

Fantastic fish and chips even a medium sized cod is big .If you bought a large cod and chips it would be enough for 2 people.

Grabbed two small cod and chips as a takeaway from islanders, a first time visit. The food was absolutely lovely. The portion size for the price was excellent value for money. Hard to find excellent fish and chips, but this was. Would recommend and visit again when in the area.

Lovely restaurant with fantastic tasting fish and chips. The staff are extremely friendly. I also saw they were serious about hygiene, they were wiping down tables and chairs regularly and kept the toilets in an immaculate condition. There was plenty of seating room. Would highly recommend.

Seafood basket was a real treat after a day at the beach. Delicious food in an impressively clean, well kept, air conditioned, and family friendly restaurant.

Back to original owners . Very friendly and great new chairs and decorating. New menus with more healthy choices and milkshakes are back . Prices are reasonable and I had the best salad I have had for a long time . A great restaurant to have a party , bring your friends along and family . Very clean . Great chips again ! Card and cash payments .

I just had a lovely lunch, served by lovely staff, it appears the restaurant is now back in safe hands, spotlessly clean, fresh fish, piping hot chips and lovely tea. Now they are back we will be back regular, we need to have a chippy of this standard on the Island.

I have just arrived home after having an excellent lunch at the newly refurbished Islander Fish Restaurant on Furtherwick Rd Canvey Island. We were a party of 4 and we were highly impressed with the new fit-out and the quality of the food. I wish Louis and the staff every success going forward.

The good news is that the Islander Fish Restaurant has re-opened under the original ownership for which we are very happy indeed. The interior decor and furnishings have all been upgraded and the quality of the food is back to the old high standards that we all expect. Happy days!!

Visited here for the first time today after seeing the high ratings on Google. I was shocked to see some recent bad reviews on here as we found the food to be cooked brilliantly!. We ordered a large cod which was enough for two people given the thickness and it wasn't overly greasy. Chips were also golden crisp. Chippies are not cheap anymore so it's comforting to at least find one that's worth the money! (Coming from Watford there are plenty of overpriced hell holes and this is not one of them) Can't recommend enough and would go back again. Staff were also friendly and had a brief chat with us whilst waiting.

Went there May day Bank holiday Monday got offered straight away midweek offer small cod and chips bread and butter tea or coffee for £7.50 was fresh cooked and fantastic every part of it will definitely go again and was surprised by the size of the small cod still filled my oval plate more than I could comfortably eat

Visited for the first time today. My daughter and I had the “ small” cod special which actually went right across the plate! Very upset I couldn’t eat all the chips. Best fish ever. Food, service first class, staff very friendly. Can’t fault it. Will be back.

When i first visited this place everything was just perfect, also various occasions after that; however after a visit in March it was the complete opposite, was charged over £40 for 3 cod & chips, reduced to £35 for soggy batter & dodgy fish, chips also not fresh, everything was cold & greasy, very disappointing, will not be returning EVER! 👎🤑

Have visited the islanders for many years. Today we visited and couldn't believe the change. It was immediately noticeable that things were different. Staff were mucky looking and sloppy service. Everywhere needed a good clean and smelt of dirty fat as we walked in. Chips were horrible!! Will not be returning and would not recommend.

I ordered a chips and curry sauce and shop is not busy at all still chips is not cooked properly and the curry sauce is all dry they charge £5 its absolutely wast of money.

It appears the Islanders has changed hands, gone are the friendly staff crisply presented in clean uniform. Most of the menu board looks empty and the place just does not look clean. The food used to look mouthwatering on entering, it is not the same. Through my food away!

Ordered 3 medium cod and chips said I’ll be back in fifteen minutes to pick up ,came back to be told just waiting for chips ,fine got home to find nice fish hardly any chips in each portion I would suggest to order large chips to avoid dissatisfaction

We had fantastic service from The Islanders (Harry): We were staying in the area and had orders for 12 and 8 people on two separate occasions during the week. The fish was first class and we were able to have the food delivered too - a bonus. Highly recommended.

22/1/22…Sat down to eat ….had to wait sometime for food ….Fish ok -chips cold, no saucer for coffee- had to request mushy peas twice … definitely won’t be going back there!!

Been here a few times never had no complaints,good portions,not today very small,you have to eat your food wearing your coat because there is no heating on in this restaurant,food gets cold quickly

Dreadful I ordered before I turned up got it home and fish was cold and batter soft on the fish and surprisingly the fish seemed overdone always used this place so another one ticked of the list

We visit every week on a Friday & service is always at its finest! Very very polite, well mannered and food is ALWAYS perfect even when it’s super busy! Would definitely recommend!

I went last Friday and had to wait nearly an hour as they were really busy. There were a crowd of people in the Restaurant waiting for food and they were seved first also people were queuing at the window as well as myself and others queuing by the counter. Do yourself a favor and check the restaurant before you go in as it may safe you a long wait.

Today I visited the islanders fish bar. I experienced extremally poor customer service in which made me very upset. I asked the man serving if I could sit down with my food and he said yes. When I sat down the lady working in the restaurant was asking me to pay more because I was sat down even though the man serving allowed me to sit. I then left the restaurant with my meal.

when I visited the islanders fish bar I received food which was very cold, to cold I could not eat it. when I had first opened my spiced potato's box I had found a light brown hair laying on the food. I would not call the spiced potato's, spiced in any shape or form they were just potato's which I could of gotten at the co op and cooked my self.

We have used this restaurant/takeaway for a long time but apparently under new ownership now, the last few times we have gone there, they didn't have what we wanted not even a steak pie, will be finding a better alternative, very disappointed.

I must say how disappointed I was with our meal. We ordered 2 pukka pies 1 small cod and 2 portions of chips. The chips were ok, pretty much as they used to be under the old ownership but a varying degree of portion sizes between each one. The thing that I didn't like was that the pies and the fish were all just about luke warm. We only live round the corner and normally our food would be piping hot. While I waited I did hear a customer order some curry sauce for his chips and he asked for it to be well heated as the last time it was too cold. Its not difficult to get these right. After all the previous owners did. Come on guys. This used to be our favourite chip shop but not any more.

Just had a large chips and curry sauce tes you get value for money.But would say the food was nice no the chips are under cooked the oil was still dripping from them which made them soggy. And the curry sauce to thick and heated up in a microwave so that tells you it's not fresh .WILL NOT BE GOING BACK.

This has in my opinion got to be the best Chippy on Canvey Island. Food is Always hot and in many instances cooked fresh when you place your order. Throughout the Pandemic they have still provided a service unlike some other Chippies on the Island....

We’ve always eaten at this restaurant every time we visit Canvey Our hearts sank when we realised it was under new ownership However we needn’t have worried the service was brilliant the food amazing I can highly recommend the seafood basket ( served on a wooden board ) it’s the best calamari I’ve ever tasted at only £7.95 amazing value & a very generous portion can’t wait for our next visit Be prepared for a wait as it’s all cooked fresh all staff are really friendly nothing is too much trouble we wish them every success they deserve it
