Wimpy in Peterborough

Good meal,friendly service not bad price for that food. My children really look forward to get in there desserts. Highly recommend for families.

A honest review the food has been ok depends on what you order but the worst part is the staff the owner banned me learning that his step daughter and me who studied together like each other and he not liking this as he control freak due to culture and religion.. I have evidence but give him chance yet he one these tight cooked up people who loves to get his own way. Since then i never been but my friends have but they been treated as bullies. He bullied them but he does that with everyone. Not safe for kids either the man should be in jail. He forces his staff and dictates what they can and cannot do. I feel sorry for his step family who he said he can do anything only as he gave roof over their head and he does. He can be racist in what he says and is a bully threatening person. I no longer reside in Peterborough but Peterborough deserves better material. With the technology today this can be proved despite his staff are scared to open up. Staff are horrible they need customers service skills however one of them was nice to me only because she knew who i was the sister of the girl. Otherwise, i cannot be rude but food the chips and skammpy were nice with good portion but the fish finger bun was stale. The drinks being ok but again maybe the person serving me gave me glass to top nearly spilt on me by me. On whole the owner brings politics play judges you like a book and ruins everything if you try and talk to him he rude and bullies you like he prince of Peterborough to the point if you say you going to police he threaten you with his friends. He goes he can win as he has lot friends to back him up. What i know from observing him and what i been told and the physical evidence i have he old minded traditional person who resides culture where he feels his choice on all is best and does not listen to others. I will not go into personal aspect but the owner needs mental health help. I cannot say more but he should be in hospital as kids are not safe if he is left on streets i feel sorry for the kids because they innocent and deserve the best not a mad man trying to exploit them. I cannot say more i seen it with my own eyes he makes kids teens and women uncomfortable.

the wimpy/Westgate grill is a place to avoid the staff don't give u chance to look at menu and jump to get u buy drinks the owners sit there staring at kids and scratching himself and its off putting don't bring ur kids will stare and watch as they go bathroom dirty peado

I have been a food review for 2 years now and never seen service and food so bad the atmosphere was ok the staff acted like they didn't wanna be there and the food was below average wouldn't feed it to a dog do not visit not worth money bad review all round

I order fish and chips yesterday for my husband he's first bites of the fish he say's garbage food and I through it in the bin. Will not recomment it just waisted your money.

Where do i start, i remember in the 80s wimpy was a great place to nip into, quality food, wimpy &f chips sold as one meal. The manager Paul was always friendly, as were his staff. The place always busy. Now, this is what we have got -= very poor-quality burger, nasty tasting coffee. Well overpriced, £24.80 for burger& chips twice & 2 drinks, complete rip off. We also had the miserable waitress the other people have commented on, strange when she's come from abroad just to be miserable in her job, and yes, she was the same with all customers not asked about dessert either ,then i realised its now called the Westgate grill, so that's why the burgers were poor quality (no excuse) ' My wife said the chips were ok, so that's the only praise out of the whole visit. My mistake i suppose, thinking i could go back in time to the great wimpy bar that we all remembered. Peterborough deserves this place; it goes with the town centre the council have managed to destroy as well, and obviously they won't see us in there again. MY RECOMMENDTION, TO THE OWNER OF THIS PLACE, GIVE THETHE MISSERABLE WAITRESS, SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING, CHANGE THE MEAT SUPPLIER, AND TRY AND LOWER SOME PRICES.

We’ve been going to Wimpy Peterborough for many years. It has been rebranded- this will be the last time we go there. Overpriced and awful food. We always have the Wimpy Grill - it was awful! They’ve changed the hot dog sausage. It was inedible. Such a shame as we used to look forward to going there. The staff are so surly - not even a thank you when I paid £28+ for two meals and two drinks. Don’t think it will survive.

Rebranded and reimagined as a really bad greasy spoon They have changed the Wimpy name to Westgate Grill. The food though is now truly terrible. My 9 item breakfast had 8 items and all were literally swimming in grease. Left me with an upset stomach for the rest of the day. Truly dire and would rather eat out of bins than ever eat here again as mouldy bin food would be more nutritious and tasty than their stuff.

Ive been visiting Wimpy for a few years and have always enjoyed it. However we've found the past few times we've been the attitude of 1 particular waitress has been putting us off returning. The brown haired girl who seems to be on shift all the time is becoming more abrupt and rude every time we go. We cannot remember the last time she smiled or even pretended to smile/ be happy. I believe she may be a family member of the owners so can probably get away with this but its not very pleasant to be served by her.She really does need a refresher in customer service to avoid losing loyal customers.

The one and only reason I visited the Wimpy in Peterborough is because I loved Wimpy as a child and hadn't seen one for many years. We all know it's futile to attempt to recapture past glories, so it was no surprise to find this a sad shadow of what Wimpy once was. The positives were quick and friendly service along with cleanliness. Oh and the milkshake was pretty good - always preffered it to the McDonalds' equivalent. Those elements aside, Wimpy has been downgraded to the lowest common denominator in everything. The food was adequate at best - not badly cooked, just of a low quality. The decor was as if they'd stripped an old Wimpy restaurant and relocated some of the couchettes and chairs into an empty shop space. There wasn't the themed coherence of, say, a McDonald's or of the Wimpy I remember from years ago. Also, tragically, the tomato sauce no longer comes in squeezy, tomato-shaped bottles! I've given an average rating because being fair it probably is an average of its type. It's just not a type I enjoy.

For ten quid, thought would get something at least partially edible. But the quarter pounder was the worst I've ever tasted. Bland and soggy. Way too much sauce. More like a truck stop burger and that's doing a disservice to truck stop places. No wonder there aren't many wimpys left.

After many times walking past over the past few years on our days out to Peterborough we decided to bite the bullet and have a Whimpy for old times sake. The place was clean and the staff was great and it was quite full. We both had burgers and a side of the chicken strips to share. The food was cooked fresh to order and the buns was toasted which was a nice touch. The minus points for me was the actual quality of the burgers, they didn't have a steak or beef taste and didn't come close to McDonald's or Burger King. If Whimpy can source a better quality of burger then this would be a place you'd go to regularly rather than just once every few years for a nostalgic experience.

Visit this restaurant about twice a month and love the place. Service is professional but friendly, cleanliness top notch and food always delicious and ready in a short time. Always takes me back to my childhood especially those milkshakes. Always our first choice for a quick burger. Full marks.

Saw Wimpy's in Peterborough and went with great expectations! My favourite place to take my children in the 70s. Sadly disappointed. The prices were high, The only dish that resembled anything like I remember was nearly £14! so we went for a cheesburger, it was dry, there was no relish and it was a further £2.50 was chips! The waitress came and collected our plates while I was still eating the last bit of my burger, even though the place was nearly empty! We wasn't asked if everything was fine and neither asked if we would like a dessert didnt see the Knickerbocker glory on teh menu either!) so overall not a place I will go to again

Visited on the 5th October and the service was excellent. We are both vegetarian and had wonderful meals. thank you.

saw on reddit someone recommended this as must visit, ordered quanterpounder meal with bacon they asked me 9.50£ i thought okay well if it is good why not.i was shocked bacon was missing and i think it is actually good because god knows what bacon would look liketaste of burger is discusting, i had to split it out after first bite and throw it away. you should be ashamed to serve this kind of food. how did you survive in such expensive location with serving such a bad food?avoid it at all timesif i would work there i would question quality of food being served but people who work there dont care as long as they getting their money, you should be ashamed guys.

It’s been a long while since I visited a Wimpy, the largely forgotten fast-food chain, to indulge in their meal deals and ‘special sauce’. Chanced upon the restaurant and ordered a vegetarian bean burger combo. The fries were great, the burger packed and surprisingly flavoursome. Generally, it was everything I expected and the meal cost 8.50 GBP. A fine and nostalgic visit.

Its a bit nostalgic really.Quarter Pounder with cheese and chips before watching the Rugby in The Ostrich.Kinda need 1/2 an hour relaxing with something to eat before that lot I can tell you!And thats what the Wimpy Bar does, simple burger and chips, pot of tea then off to the pub.Great

The food here is nice the staff are nice to. But they kept getting my order wrong. They were very quick to sort the problem out tho.

Visiting Peterborough for the day, after a visit to the Cathedral it was lunch time so passing the Wimpy I decided to call in I was going to have a burger but once inside and looking at the menu we opted for the chicken breast strips in bread crumbs with a jacket potato and a pot of peppermint tea (generous) size a very tasty meal. And 2 meals for less than £20 was good value. I must admit I had not visited a Wimpy since the 60s

Ah memories. You can't beat a good old fashioned Wimpy meal. Great service, hot food and a tasty meal.

So disappointed with this location! First- no air conditioning on one of the hottest days of this summer. Only one server working and it took 1/2 hour just to place our order. We ordered two hot hamburger dinners and one turkey sandwich. We had to send them back as the cook didn’t know it was supposed to be on bread with gravy. My friend refused the turkey sandwich as the meat was GRAY not white and had a bad odour. Needless to say we should have just left after 5 minutes in this place. Save your money and just don’t bother with this location in Peterborough.

Well what can I say. We have been visiting wimpy for many year and always received good service and food. But recently it all seems to be going wrong within the store. This has happened more than once bad service and incorrect food/drinks given. I’m diabetic type 1 so I can’t eat or drink sugary food. So on our visit recently I ordered a Diet Coke only to be given a regular coke. My partner wanted a wimpy coffee so that’s a coffee with frothy milk. He was given a regular coffee I raised my concern as to the wrong drinks so the waiter returned with a cappuccino... no drink for me!!! We returned the drinks. We sat there patiently waiting to place our food order and new drinks as I was on my dinner break only to see from there on we where be totally ignored. Something we said or did wrong? I think not. New staff seem to be not knowledgable about there food or drinks and are totally impolite. I can truthfully say I’m very disappointed and will not be spending any more of my moneys with you any longer. Let’s face it plenty of other fine clean and friendly eating establishedments else where.

I remember Wimpey as a child and loved coming in. I’m glad that they are still around. A very busy restaurant with a lot of people coming in to eat. The staff were very busy but were professional and polite. I got what I wanted and it did taste really nice. The place did seem a little cramped and maybe a bigger site is needed. Overall happy with everything and will be back again.

Old favourite that I visit when in Peterborough city sometimes. My international grill and milkshake were top notch as I always remember. Plenty of food and hot and tasty. But my kids had a cheese toasty and chips, the toast was cooked but the cheese was still unmelted. They had chips with it which were fine. My wife had a burger and chips which were fine too. Maybe they should stick to doing their traditional meals if they can't cook new items like toasties. Will visit again but will advise my kids to pick something else. Service was polite and courteous.

I haven’t had a Wimpy for over 20 years, but while in Peterborough City Centre, I thought I’d re-live my love of Wimpy. It didn’t disappoint. The service was quick, the food was just as good as always. I had the half pounder, which was two lovely non greasy burgers with lettuce, cheese and fantastic Wimpy relish. I’ll be going back.

Visited yesterday having not seen or been in a Wimpy for years!! Was busy and service was great, food was just like it was back in the day, freshly cooked and tasted fabulous! Was like stepping back in time was always a favourite as a child! Definitely will pop in again next time in Peterborough

In over 30 years this wimpey has not changed. Opposite the Bull hotel and still selling their 'mixed grill' with the same food on the plate. Always busy.

The customer service was awful. Crammed in, rude waiter and the food wasn’t the best either. If you have any allergies or things you can’t tolerate don’t bother coming here

This visit was much better than my last one(what a difference a year makes) got served promptly by a friendly,efficient young lady.Food and drinks were correct and freshly cooked.The restaurant was clean and nice and quiet. Had my faith restored!

Went in after seeing a desert in the window to be told they not doing it anymore so why it’s still there is beyond me, anyway settled on a waffle which was very nice and a pot of tea, would not return though which is unfortunate as I regularly visit the one in Nottingham which is very good .

first time in wimpy for around 15 years, not only was the waitress extremely rude but got the orders wrong, not doing her job properly, food was ok don't get me wrong, won't be coming back, hopefully it's at least another 15 years before I'm back

We just popped in here for our tea and teacake. Nice clean place to eat, lovely cup of tea, friendly staff and not long to wait for food.

Nostalgia probably takes me back to this restaurant but I always enjoy it and can't help introducing it to younger generations. The food is freshly cooked, the staff are always friendly and helpful and for a fast food restaurant I am always pleased with the outcome.

I normally eat at Wimpy. However the food was burnt and the service was disgusting. A girl came to take my order yawning in my face and coughing put me off my food for starters. Then she started muttering like she was over-worked. Overall she was nice person and friendly but her own fairy world land. she was not old at all. The overall experience was poor and will never go again no matter what if it is the last place to eat. Maybe this is why it was empty because the lack of services offered and how customers are treated. Honestly speaking i could do a better job myself. jess

Used to be a great Wimpy fan many years ago, not any more. Got sat down at a table by a young eastern European female. After a while she came and took an order for our drinks that was ok once she understood what we wanted. Then we sat and sat, the young lady was walking up and down and not a drink to be seen. We then got up and walked out because if the drinks took this long I would hate to think how long the food will take. Come on Wimpy get some staff that can do the job.

We popped in for a quick lunch (lots of tables available) service was quick and friendly. However the food was incredibly bland! Absolutely no flavour at all, even the onions in the burger had no taste. Probably the worst burger I have eaten.

Been here before and usually a good quick meal but our recent visit will stop us from going back again. Walked in and none of the staff wanted robe there, they were stood slouched on the main counter and one even yawning quite openly for all to see. One man came across and took our order and didn't manage to smile the whole way through and when we came to the end of our order he just walked away without saying a word. When the food arrived he simply put all the food onto the table and then walked off again. We sorted the food out and began our meal which wasn't very good at all. I had the gourmet chicken breast and it was as though the chicken had been road killed, then battered even further as it had no depth or taste to it at all, my knife wouldn't even cut through it, Inuit had to pull it apart where it wanted to split. Bearing in mind this is one of the most expensive meals on the menu at over £8 it really was a let down. The coleslaw had black bits in the veg where it hadn't been trimmed or grated very well and odd bits left on and overall it was he worst meal I've had in years. My mum had burger which was very dry and flat, and my sister had fish and chips which was disappointing and should have gone somewhere else. Didn't even bother with deserts as no one came across to ask if we'd like any and by then we had had enough so made our way to the bar area to pay. Located central to Peterborough and just outside of queens gate shopping centre but would avoid if want something that will put more than tasteless food in your stomach. The toilet facilities are not very clean and smell and was the icing on the cake if that's the conditions they are happy to leave it in for the general public. All in all will be trying somewhere else when next back here.

some of the prices here are more expensive than other places, and the variety is just ok - the desserts are cheaper and better than Tamu and overall it is a place I would go now and then but not on a regular basis

Nice food, served hot, quick service, pleasant staff. Been there years but still manages to reach a good standard.

Very cold restaurant throughout our meal. No one asked throughout our meal if it was all okay. We sat waiting for them if we wanted dessert and no one came so had to ask for the menu ourselves. The waitress handed my daughter the dessert menu and said as she handed it "do you know what you want"? My daughter asked for a hot fudge cake and it came to her cold.Wimpy wasn't busy and only had 4 people in there so there was no excuse for any of this. I use to love coming here but I have definitely been put off for this visit

This is not how Wimpy was years ago! Definitely not value for money, the food was Ok and the waitress was below average. We wouldn't go back as there is better value at other places.

The meal was horrible and tasted disgusting but there was no wait. We got in with a rude introduction, stuffed in with no room and the waiter was beyond rude and I did not feel welcome, will NOT be going back.

Eat here on my fortnightly trips to Peterborough. Staff are always polite, they take your drinks order almost as soon as you arrive and then take the food order when they bring the drinks over which is nice as you don't have to sit waiting long. The food is freshly cooked to order and arrives quickly and piping hot, I have never had a bad meal there. Menu is the usual Wimpy burgers, benders and build your own all day breakfasts as well as jacket potatoes and salads. My mum can't have gluten and they are always happy to cook her a chicken breast and chips with salad. Good value for money compared to some places. A cooked meal with drinks for 2 is around £20.00. Give it a try, don't think you'll be disappointed.

Although a little dated as a food establishment it still keeps its reliable menu. Let down by the usual robot waitresses but quick service and decent fast food that's actually hot on arrival !!

Asked to take five of our residents all large wheelchair users, as normally we can not all get in one place, The owner and staff could not be more helpful, assisting us with the door, moving tables and chairs so polite talking to the residents not us asking what they would like, which hardly happens even in this day and age.Full marks goes to all the staff for there help making them feel as a normal customer, even bringing some cold water for the hot drinks.Apart from taking them back to the days were they had no disability and visited Wimpy all the time.Wish I had taken photosThank you

Went with my daughter for a quick,filling tea. Food and drinks came very fast.I like the fact all the food is cooked to order so it always tastes fresh.I had a fishfinger sandwich which was delicious and my daughter had a bacon quaterpounder with a generous portion of chips.Waitress was pleasant and restaurant always clean and well presented.

Always as a kid we went for a wimpySo I took my kids.Food was really good and came really quick.Biggest let down ever is there cheap aldi sauces on the tables The dreaded BRANWELLS.....This is disgusting and a great way of making nice food taste bad.Come on wimpy why skimp on your sauces??????

I had my first beefburger in a Wimpy in 1965 - I have never forgot it!! It was incredible - Absolutely loved it!! The Wimpy was in/near Holloway Road, London ... I enjoyed the meal here in Westgate and often eat there - It's always clean- always tasty - But nothing ever seems to match that first one in London - I can remember it so well (it's 50 years ago!) .... Finely chopped onions (about 2mm) and the beefburger in a toasted bap ... Wimpy - Please return that '1960's Classic' and I will give you five stars!

I've been visiting this particular Wimpy since I was a child and it has always been well run, consistent, reliable and friendly. One of the cooks has been there for years as long as I can remember and all credit to him, no matter how busy it is he keeps sending out freshly cooked great quality food. Never had to complain once in all the years I've been visiting as a regular once every few weeks customer. It's one of my two favourite places to eat if I go into town. A little more expensive these days but worth it. Thanks Wimpy staff and management.

Wimpy is a family place and the food is good but It was a little expensive for what you get. It gets very busy around lunch times but the service is good. Not sure if I would go again but It was lovely to try.

We eat here about once a month and always have consistently good service and food.You can choose where to sit rather then be forced into a space of the waitresses choosing like lot of other places and the booths are spacious,clean and comfy.Waitresses are knowledgable on their products and efficient.Food is cooked to order and served up in about ten minutes and the milkshakes are good old fashioned thick shakes.This is a great little blast from the past which I think is often overlooked.

Been there for ever, still a good meal at a reasonable price. Service very good and they are happy to chop and change things if you want.

This place deserves a mention just because the staff, food and cleanliness of the place is 100% I cannot fault it and I am fussy. We had a piping hot full breakfast served to us by a very polite and helpful waitress. I found this place by accident and will be going in again because the usual chains of coffee shops etc don't come even near this place I would highly recommend. Thank you.

prompt service for a Sunday lunchtime and as usual the food was top class. Halfpounder with cheese and chips followed by the old favourite of syrup sponge and custard... hits the mark again. The wimpy taste is still the best...a little bit more expensive but definitely worth it.

Like many people I have just had the privilege of having 4 full hours to kill in Peterborough waiting for a new passport to be issued. Like many it was just not enough time to go away and come back, but a serious amount of time with nothing at all to do. So I wandered into the town to do some window shopping and came across the Wimpy restaurant. Well I could not remember the last time I had seen one of them, as I really do not do too much town-centre visiting. So I went in for lunch and was so pleased that I did. The menu was extensive and it took me ages to decide what to have. The staff were extremely polite and attentive, the food was hot and tasty and the service swift. It was a shame they were not a little slower as that would have helped my time to pass. Excellent customer service, well done Wimpy, Peterborough.

Been here a number of times and come away happy every time! Food is very tasty and your never waiting long the only thing is I feel the waiting staff are trying to take your menus/plates away too soon apart from that it's a very place will visit again and recommend!

The worst food made in the history of men kind. I had the breakfast meal they make with their milkshake the milkshake was awful i hated it i left nearly all of it still in the glass. The sausage was like a rolled up rubber. I can make better food then them with just some old tyres and the left over food from the bin :(

I was utterly disgusted with my treatment here. I had a simple dining request of no onions (having a severe digestive condition it could potentially put me in hospital) my burger arrived with them so I politely with a smile reminded the waitress. My burger went back only for the cook to become negatively vocal and said "she didn't ask for none im not an idiot" I got a filthy look he then just scrapped them out and gave me the burger back. Even when we paid there was no smile or thank you and the waitress even took my boyfriend plate away whilst I was still eating and he was still chewing his last mouthful! I'll never ever eat here again

What a complete load of rubbish. I ordered the so called Wimpy Grill consisting of a Pork Bender, a pitiful egg, french fries, and a half cooked beefburger for £6.65 - if I had seen the all day breakfast I could have had 9 items for £5.99. Overpriced and a very poor experience. I no sooner plonked my backside on the seat than I was approached "what do I want a drink"? Barely time to gather my wits and find a menu. I tend to drink in accordance with what I eat.The price structure is not conducive with what they are dumping on the plate.I will not be going back, it is my second visit this year and I find no reason to give any plus points. This organisation is a shadow of what it used to be - going back 20 to 30 years ago. It is a sham and has nothing but nothing to convince me otherwise - I say avoid and visit other eateries that I am sure will provide much much more value for money. By the way, the background music even though not by original artists really is painful to listen to - just adds to the off-putting ambience.My partner had Scampi - I believe the creature scampered away - what was in the breadcrumbs was nothing short of barely cooked, the accompanying greenery was dry and stale. Not impressed and never going back.

Absolutely awful. Never been to a Wimpy before and certainly won't return. It has no atmosphere. Cheap sticky plastic menus. Badly laid out with cheap furniture. Terrible service the waitress just banged the drink down. Food is expensive for what you get. Milkshake very powdery.

We were walking through Peterborough doing a bit of shopping and looking for somewhere for a it of lunch when I spotted a Wimpy Bar,I said to Ann my wife I haven't had a Wimpy burger for years and used to love them,we decided to go in much to our regret it was the worst service and burger, never mind a Wimpy burger,all my memories shattered..

I wouldn't normally write a review of a Wimpy restaurant, but the guy who runs this place and his staff deserve a mention and an acknowledgement for getting things spot on.This is the only place in Peterborough city centre where you can get a "full English" before eight o'clock in the morning (unless you want to visit the Bull Hotel opposite - no thanks), the items on the plate are always recognisable for what they are (unlike Mannings next to the market), the food served is always hot and isn't left standing (unlike the College Arms, even when the place is empty) and the staff pleasant and efficient - one even popped out to buy the morning's papers so I could have a read over my second cup of tea. This place also scores five gongs (out of five) on the Food Standards Agency hygiene inspection framework, so you're highly unlikely to leave with with anything other than a full belly.Well done guys. Much appreciated.

Love the atmosphere of the restaurant. And having an Elton Mess after meal is really enjoyable --- the price is good, only £1.99, and the taste is so great with a large portion.
