Oh dear. I’m a lifelong Wimpy fan, since I was a teenage schoolboy in Essex where there were (and still are) numerous Wimpy franchises. Many a happy Saturday brunch had in the Grays Wimpy, which was run until very recently by the same lovely family as it had been for decades. Forced to close by a sky high rent rise Anyway I digress. I’m in the area every so often, and love, love, love a wimpy. Halfpounder and chips, always. And in the Wimpy Dingwall it’s always been very nice. Not a busy store whenever I have visited, and a little dated. But clean, and friendly I called on on a Saturday recently and being earlier than usual, decided it was too early for a burger ( there I said it but still don’t really believe it) so I went for a breakfast: The Great Wimpy: 2 Breakfast sausages, 2 bacon slices, 2 fried eggs, Heinz® Baked Beans, griddled half tomato & a slice of toast Disappointed isn’t a word I use often. But I was with this. I don’t know what a “breakfast sausage” is, it must be a euphemism for a meatless sausage. Tasteless, textureless. The bacon had been griddled, some parts blackened and some parts undercooked. Two fried eggs, neither were runny…. The tomato half, beans and toast were ok as I would expect Usually a woman does the cooking here (I believe she is the owner) but today’s cook was a guy. I heard lots of pinging from microwaves I have no idea if the sausages are wimpy specification, or a substitute. I know they were awful. So I’d be surprised if they are wimpy approved. Fried eggs… difficult to cook them so the yolks are runny? No, not at all. I manage and I’m not employed in a catering environment. It certainly wasn’t because the place was busy, it wasn’t, with a max 8 guests in during the meal I forget how much this cost, it will have been around £10 of the King’s finest pounds. It was grim. The only saving graces were that the young girl who was waitressing was efficient, polite and lovely. And I could have a wee in their loo before leaving, since I had a relatively long trip ahead Will I go back? Possibly as I love a Wimpy Halfpounder (or double original quarter pounder cheese as it’s now know ) as I think the special sauce and brown bun make it something really unique. I’ll never ever entertain a breakfast in a Wimpy again

Solid, honest, vegan burger! What more could you ask for? The Beyond Meat burger was marked in the menu as vegan, the sides said that they might be cooked in the same fryer as meat. However, the friendly staff offered to turn on the vegan fryer for us, so we had tasty chips and onion rings. We really enjoyed the burger and the buns were very nice.

I had fond memories (very distant ones) of visiting this place as a child. Had errands in Dingwall so thought I'd give it a whirl. Ordered a burger with fries. Cannot fault the lady who served me, she was very friendly , efficient and good humoured. I nipped to the toilet, which was the first alarm bell. The toilet was stinking. Public toilet stinking. Old manky looking tiles, old toilet furniture and stank like a hobos pish covered shoe. Not a good sign in a restaurant. The (again lovely and very professional) lady brought me my burger and fries. I'll start with the fries. They were decent, well cooked and actually good. 👌🏼 The burger however..... the bun tasted stale like it had been frozen and defrosted. Completely devoid of freshness or flavour. And then the burger. The burger was honestly manky. Grey meat that tasted like it had been sitting in a vat of lukewarm water for a day or two. Unpleasant slimy texture and just..... awful. I couldn't finish it. And all this for just shy of £15. I can't understand howthis place is still open. So in summation. Toilet - stinking Decor - dated and scabby Food - rank Lady serving - brilliant and (other than the fries) the only positive thing in this dump of a restaurant.

Decided to visit the Wimpy in Dingwall after reminiscing with my friend over childhood visits to the Wimpy in Ride Street Aerdeen. My old favourite the International Grill was on the menu and did not disappoint. The staff, in particular, the manager Ann, were very good, will be back highly recommended.

Was excited to have a 'wimpy' again since childhood! Lovely friendly staff, can,t fault the girl that served us. But the food was awful! I ordered the bender in a bun as that was a childhood favourite. On menu was with cheese do opted out of the cheese. What I got was one, small, dried up 'bender' frankfurter that didn,t fill the roll. The roll was dry, and a tiny teaspoon of tomato ketchup and onions were next to non existant!! Shockingly bad! And, was charged over £4 for that!! Side potion of dry onion rings - expensive too! Hubbie had a burger which was well.. just nothing really, bland. 2 milkshakes, I ordered strawberry and it tasted vanilla with a tiny bit of strawberry sauce right at the bottom. Was stunned when the bill came to find out that..it was over £20!! Daylight robbery for the quality of food, and quantity! The place looked like it needed a good deep clean, grubby and dirty! I will never return to a Wimpy again, preferring to have my memories of a bygone age, when it was brilliant! No wonder there are so many closed!

My partner and I stopped here for a spontaneous lunch one day. We found the tables and chairs to be uncomfortable, and we felt that the whole restaurant was in need of a deep clean and upgrade! We both ordered milkshakes, one chocolate and one vanilla. There was a beard hair in my milkshake, and the chocolate syrup had not been mixed properly with the rest of the milkshake, so at times it felt like I was just slurping direct chocolate syrup! My partner had a burger and hunters chicken chips. I had cheesy chips, chicken strips and cheese-O rings. The chips were very poor, you could get a bag of frozen chips from Tesco and fry them yourself - it is cheaper and it would taste a lot better! The cheese was also not nice and didn't melt properly. The Cheese-O rings would have been nice if it wasn't for the horrible batter that surrounded them. The chicken strips were probably the nicest thing from my meal, as they tasted the best. My partner's burger was very boring, and overall just not very enjoyable. The meal in total cost us £30! Which is practically daylight robbery! We both felt very sick for the rest of the day after eating here. To be brutally honest, you are better of going to McDonald's. The food is cheaper, and the quality is 10x better than what you get here!

I love Wimpy, and have fond memories from the 80s & 90s when they were more popular, so imagine my delight when I moved to Dingwall and they have one right on the High Street. It's been quiet in there when I've been before, but this visit they were practically full. This didn't affect the service time at all, it was as quick and efficient as ever, and of course, it's table service, unlike fast food places.I love the pork bender burger, and have it every time, despite the rather un-PC name! But this visit was different from before. The burger bun was smaller, so much so that the bender sausage stuck out from the edges. Also, there wasn't as much, if any, of the usual delicious relish and other sauce that they've put on it before. There was some ketchup or something on it, but nothing like my previous visits. The plate was also smaller, which is ok because I don't want too many chips. I don't have a massive appetite, but I still noticed the smaller plate, smaller bun, and fewer chips. It was still enough to fill me up though. If they're trying to save money, they didn't succeed because I asked for one extra packet of sugar, and they gave me three. So 2 packets were left, and I doubt they'll reuse them for another customer, even though I only opened the one I used. I hate waste. The pork bender sausage was of course as delicious as ever, and I think it was the same size as before, despite everything else being smaller. I really missed the usual delicious relish that they usually put on it, and there wasn't any in a squirty bottle either, just ketchup and the usual salt and pepper, and vinegar. I can't remember if there was brown sauce as well.Service was as friendly and fast as it always is in there, it's definitely much more like a cafe than a fast food joint, which suits me! Proper plates, proper cups, and metal knives and forks. Unlike fast "food" joints. The expresso coffee is fine, not the best espresso I've ever had, and I've had a lot, but perfectly drinkable and sort of hit the spot. They've opened up the upstairs toilets, which had been closed for the year I've been coming here. I prefer using the downstairs toilets near the tills, as being of a certain age let's say I can't be too far away from the toilets. I didn't happen to notice if the toilets by the tills were still open or not, as I'd already been upstairs.Of course, I'll still visit whenever I'm in the town centre, I'm going back in two weeks, so I'll try and pay more attention to the things I missed above.

I'm so surprised Wimpy are still going, they were big in the 1980s & 90s but have declined in numbers. So imagine my surprise when I discovered my local town had a Wimpy.I'd say it's more like a cafe than a fast food burger and coke place. The chips are proper chips, the food comes on a proper plate with metal knives and forks, I don't know if they even do take away, I always sit down at a table.Service is always really quick, friendly, chatty, and it's obvious the food is freshly cooked as you order it from your table service and then wait a few minutes for it.I love the ring sausage burger, the pork bender. It's Wimpy's speciality, and really tasty and with quality meat. They also do a fairly reasonable expresso, not the best I've ever had, but it's alright and does the job.The prices are good, it's always clean in there. I go in every time I'm in the town centre.

I’d heard about the old Wimpy from my father, he used to work there. As such the appearance of one as my companion and I walked along the Dingwall high street was a surprise. The surprises continued as we went in and were met with a delightful American style diner and friendly staff. The food was made and delivered promptly and was excellent, except for the sausage on the Mega Burger which was a little over done. All in all it was an wonderful experience and has led to us investigating where else we could find a Wimpy.

Wimpy holds great memories for me alas. It does not stand the test of time. Coffee and sausage egg beans and chips a sole order. Not so simple obviously. Sausage deep fried egg fried to distraction chips bland and hard bean ok what can you do wrong with that once you microwave them. Coffee ok decent. Service by the waiter good very attentive apart from shouting in the kitchen area ?? One of the two persons working there. We went in here for lunch and were quite disappointed. My daughter is vegetarian and was quite surprised to see Quorn products on the menu. Surely if you go to the trouble of buying in vegetarian products then you should make sure they are cooked separately from meat products.

Set on Dingwall High Street, the Wimpy has been a favourite for parties for young children and the odd Academy pupil not wanting to deal with the big Tescos melee at lunch. With the main restaurant door on the high street and the takeaway counter door round the side means that both streams of customers are kept nicely seperate. The tables and decor is rather cheap and tacky which hardly sets your expectation levels high, but the foood is solid and in large poritions which almost makes up for the slow service. Also not a fan of the sachets- why not use bottles?Couldn't complain about my food, open burger was very good with nice cheese and better than average chips. Milshake was excellent and the portions were very generous. If they could improve the decor and service this would be a solid 4/5.

I recall going to Wimpy when I was a lad, it was a rare treat, however this is a sorry example of that rare treat. 1070s Formica tables, vinyl seats, dog-eared laminated menus, sachets of sauce and vinegar, oh why can't you have HP and Heinz bottles..Food was distinctly average, my son ordered a quarter pounder with a processed cheese slice (imitation cheese slices made mostly with vegetable oil and water and hardly any milk) and bacon, served on a brown bun. I ordered a bog standard quarter pounder, with a side of onion ring and skinny fries. And, they forgot my order...Sorry, it will be a long time, if at all I will be back at this place, you need to give the staff a good lesson in customer service as throughout the time we were in the place they congregated with a large party chatting loudly.

If you fancy a little nostalgic trip back in time then this place is definitely for you. To call it fast food probably doesn't do it justice and the price definitely isn't cheap. However the tables are cramped and the place was full of screaming kids. The best part of the meal was the service the woman serving us could not have been nicer.

The No. 1 slot on Dingwall restaurant trip adviser is unworthy of the honour, because Wimpy is a perfectly magnificent restaurant. But for our slight discomfort at a cramped table, in fact, and the presence above it of a noisy air conditioner, I would go even further: a magnificently perfect restaurant. With the possible exceptions of Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner and Dabbous (a bemusing absentee), no newbie in recent years has excited such a uniformly rapturous reception as this interpretation of Anglo-Wimpy elegance near Cleos.I could don my neo-feminist hat to observe that this ground floor is uncompromisingly butch, with all the rattan and wood panelling, and the walls dotted with Dingwall prints of old street scenes. Then again, if you are styling a joint after a gentlemen’s club in the days of the Wimpy, it might be self-defeating to pepper the walls with surrealist portraits of a turbaned Andrea Dworkin. Despite, or maybe because of, such drastic strip lighting that an iPhone torch was required to read the menu, the room works so well that – unusually – the ground floor is a more atmospheric dining area than the upstairs bit.Our salivary glands were in overdrive even before the grill was fired up, thanks to the clean, heavenly scent of fresh burgers. In any ranking of Britain’s most deliciously fragranced restaurants, there could be no disputing Wimpy right to the top spot. As for Mr Wimpy's cooking, all that need be said – and try to forgive the lurch into pretentious gastrospeak – is, “Wow”. On a burger-dominated menu that is even manlier than the decor, not a single dish fails to entice. The execution more than matched the allure of the printed page.We shared four dishes, and could dredge up barely a scintilla of reserve about any of them. Bacon cheese half pound burger with a gentle special sauce had “a gorgeous, mildly gamey twang”, said my friend, “and you can distinctly taste every herb, spice and chilli”. The mega burger had been grilled on the grill to the precisely correct nanosecond so that the skin was fantastically crisp while the bender retained an almost gooey texture within.“Blimey, this really is something,” cooed my friend over chocolate milkshake served in a glass (with cooking of such power, wine somehow feels effete; for a moment while holding that glass, I felt almost like a man), though one of the main courses trumped even those starters. It isn't every day, or, indeed, every century, that you will find a Hawaiian burger on a Wimpy menu. Here, the pineapple and burger come in what the menu undersells as a open burger, the ensemble contained within an ornate bun. The waiter lopped off the crust, studded with poppy and onion, by way of the only theatrical flourish in what was otherwise impeccably sombre service from smartly suited chaps. Beautifully spiced as the dish was, it would have been a stretch to tell the burger from bender. But there would have been no problem in a blind tasting identifying the onion rings. Marinated for a day, the onion was so tender that you could have cut it with a plastic knife. “Incredible,” said my friend. “I’ve never been a big fan of onion rings, but I didn’t know it could be like this.” The brilliance was that, without one iota of the ferocious savour, the onion ring was amazingly delicate. Chips came with Wimpy special sause, and a medley of other condiments included brown suace. We finished with a trio of deserts (a kind of Eskimo waffle) of waffle, ice cream and nibbed nuts, and a tornado of praise. “That’s the best Wimpy meal I have ever eaten. Of course it was,” was the verdict from across the table, as if this was too obvious to state.Whether Wimpy is the best in the country is impossible to know, as I trust we agreed earlier. A point must deducted for the duff and profiteering table, and it is expensive. But were there a ranking list for Mr Wimpy Restaurants, it would take some shifting from the No. 1 spot. You could gorge here until that wafer-thin mint detonated the explosion, and leave any fretting about the bill to your executors.

Went in here a couple of months ago on an early January Sunday afternoon (as it was the only takeaway in Dingwall open at the time). Found it to be very busy. Woman who served us was gruff and short-tempered (but was actually a bit of a rough diamond). Had the biggest burger on the menu as I was hank marvin, and it went down a treat. Definitely feels like stepping into Blackpool in 1982, but hard to fault it

I had always noticed the Wimpey but never thought of trying it. We went in at lunchtime last Saturday. The furnishings were like stepping back in time with the fixed tables and seating and the old-style Wimpey menus with the original burger bun logo.I was apprehensive that there would be no vegetarian choice but was pleasantly surprised and chose the spicy beanburger in a bun with chips while my husband chose the traditional Wimpey burger in a bun with chips. Both meals were great. I was really pleased with my choice as it was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone. What made our visit special apart from the food was the great service from our waitress Molly, who was really cheerful, helpful and attentive and is very good at her job.The only downside to the visit was the fact that there is only one toilet which is quite basic and that there weren't separate ladies and gents facilities.

The last place I expected to find on a sleepy Sunday in Dingwall was a Wimpy Bar, but here it is - on the High St , loud and proud.Wimpy has all but disapeared in recent years to be replaced by the usual suspects of fast food blandness. Happily none of that going on here. Here is the sort of restaurant you actually looked forward to eating in. Smart decor, good service and quality fresh food. This was indeed a flash back to an era where the customer actually mattered!!Once inside we were met by a friendly cheerful waitress who gave us menus that contained all the Wimpy favourites. Quarter pounders, Half Pounders, Pork Benders and breakfasts galore. There is also chicken, fish and vegetarian options....... Plus lots of "extras" if you should want. They serve a wide range of breakfasts up to 12 noon including a great 2 for 1 offer! We went for a Wimpy Grill, a quarter pounder with cheese and a chicken sandwich with extras of onion rings, plus coffee and fresh orange. Orders are taken at the table , with a smile, and delivered when the food is cooked. Nothing appeared to be microwaved. The result was a tasty hot meal that was really satisfying. All this comes at a price, which although above that of McD's and other fast fooders is perfectly acceptable for the quality of food and level of service. Total bill was £23 and worth every penny. This was a great find and I wish that this idea would catch on in more of our towns and high streets. Definitely recommended.

On a routine shopping trip to Dingwall we chanced upon the Wimpy to our absolute delight! Having fond memories of growing up in the Wimpy era we were a little hesitant about entering having encountered some dreadful franchises bearing the Wimpy name but there was no disappointment here. Pork benders, brown derby, ice cream floats - all designed to tantalise and bring back memories. Having said that, the food was delicious and unpretentious, served by waitresses who genuinely cared about the service provided. We shall be back!

If Wimpy was a person and it was in Japan it would be made a "living legend". It is just excellent and reminds one of happy childhood birthday parties. The table top ketchup bottles and original menu just add to the whole experience. If you want to know what a real burger experience was like before the well known big beasts arrived on the scene then check it out!

We found this long lost Scottish Wimpy by accident and what a happy accident it was. Wimpy was the culinary treat of my early teens, and I have never lost the taste for them, sadly, in Scotland particularly there are very few left. It was so nice to find my old favourites still on the menu, 'the bender' and 'the brown derby'! The service would not have been out of place in a gourmet restaurant, and the food as good as I remembered it. Burgers and chips, but on a plate with a knife and fork and with table service instead of in cardboard.

Didn't realise that Wimpy still existed until we were out walking down the High Street in Dingwall! Spotted it and had to go in!Got a surprise too - it's more of a restaurant than a fast food burger bar.Table service and an incredible menu of temping foods - meals as well as burgers. The 'International Grill' we had was beautifully cooked...Lovely desserts too - my girlfriend had a 'Brown Derby' - which is still on the menu after all those years, while i had a junior Knickerbocker Glory! Full up...Wimpy - Better than your other High Street chains!

I am not a big fan of fast food, but this is really one of the nicer places to eat in Dingwall, even if just for a takeaway! Staff are really nice and busy all the time. Food is good and better than usual burgers etc from fast food outlets.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
