We went in at about 3.30 for afternoon tea. I asked for a gluten-free cake, and was offered apple pie. It looked and tasted delicious, an open pie, with a layer of crème patissiere below the apple, and then a thin layer of sponge and then finally, a layer of caramel. There wasn’t too much sugar in the lower layers, to counteract the sweetness of the caramel - classy patisserie! I was offered cream to go with it, and I regret not going for the full, indulgent experience. We’ll be going back!

Loved the atmosphere, the food is freshly made to order and tastes wonderful, with a great menu to choose from. The outdoor seating area gives a relaxed holiday feel. The cakes are out of this world! After food, we browsed around the Home and Garden shop and picked up some lovely garden pots, candles and diffusers for the home. We're frequent visitors to the Auction Cafe, it's a wonderful asset to the village.

Sadly the cafe has taken away 'freedom of choice' when paying! We could not see a notice that stated 'card only/no cash' - and offered to pay in cash at the end of our meal, as we had no reason to think it would not be accepted. Even though the place was great, on principal we will choose not go again. Not everyone has cards, and if the correct amount is paid in cash we cannot see an issue. Paying by credit card can cost the customer Bank charges if they do not clear their card monthly, as well as the Cafe. Banks benefit. Cash is still legal tender.

Used to come here lots for Breakfast and Lunch . Pancakes Bacon Maple Syrup Looks really well presented.. Big question as to how fresh Bacon was ! 2 Full English Breakfast rather large good choice and well presented. The Bacon again not good at all !!!! No Small English available now . The Bacon was brittle. I had to literally pick it up it was that hard . The other bits were also very tough and hard to cut . Not good at all . Especially as you pay £12.99 for Full Breakfast . The staff did replace the bacon but it was still rather tough . Just not impressed. Shame . Don’t think will hurry back . As 2 full Breaks . 1 Pancakes . Bacon maple syrup. Pot of tea for 2 .. and 2 Cappuccinos came to £48 . So rather a lot of money

Lunch menu is reduced from previous visits and is limited if you want something warm. Quiche has always been outstanding but this time was smaller, shallower and seemed to have been microwaved to death. Usually crisp pastry was soggy and quiche was chewy. Service was quick but pretty grumpy. Probably won't rush back.

Let me star with the positives, the surroundings is very pleasant, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food clearly fresh as the kitchen is open to view which I like. We visited on Mother’s Day and didn’t suffer any delays because of that either. My grievance is this and especially so after reading another review. We had three afternoon teas. We ordered one earl grey tea and were told it would be an extra, now the £26.95 includes a “normal tea” what ever that is. So when the bill came I was charged £2.95 for a specialty tea! We didn’t say anything as we did not want to cloud our mothers experience but come on, this is a rip off and I notice that in another review someone else was charged twenty pence extra which I suppose is more reasonable, but three quid?? This is such a shame as this place has delivered well in the past but these days there is little difference in the price of teas and many tea rooms just give a selection of teas with no price difference at all! A shame.

We visited for breakfast on Mother's Day. We arrived at 10.15 and we were told they were fully booked inside but we were welcome to sit in the patio. We did and ordered drinks and food. Drinks arrived within 10 mins, but one and half hours later still no food. We spoke to the manager who said she'd check on our order but never came back to us with an update. When we eventually got fed up and advised her we were leaving, she argued we ought to pay for the food if this was now ready. We point blank refused to do so, but paid for the drinks we had consumed. When we suggested that customers ought to be advised of expected waiting times at the point of order, she argued that we could see they were busy and that it was not always possible to say how long it would take to process orders! Basic rule of catering? Talk to your kitchen staff and make sure you know how long it's taking them to process orders. Second rule of catering: keep your customers updated and apologise when you mess up instead of arguing with them. As we said to the manager, we would have been very happy with a simple slice of cake if they had advised us of the expected waiting times at the point of ordering - in fact they would have had four happy customers. On the plus side: lovely waiting staff who attempted to keep us informed in impossible circumstances. Verdict: lovely place but management needs improvement.

This is our first visit upon recommendation; we rocked up midday Sunday and opted for toast (yes, so simple) and the menu said comes with honey, marmalade or jam. We ordered one basic (English) pot of tea + pot of Early Grey (which is classed as speciality tea) so 20p extra. Upon paying the bill, we were told honey/marmalade/jam were all 75p extra - yet menu doesn't state this! And the basic tea was classed as speciality tea as grouped into the'English' class. Unfortunately we left feeling somewhat miffed as toast pricing clearly deceitful. When ordering a pot of tea, be warned you're in the right category - how can something so simple as a pot of tea be classed as special?

Popped in here few days ago. Having been past many many times it was my first time in here. Was very surprised how big it is inside & there is loads of parking at the back. Very nice friendly staff. Prompt service. I ordered smoked salmon & poached eggs on sourdough toast. It was very nice except both of my eggs were overcooked, so no runny yolk, which was disappointing. But I will definitely be back to give it another try.

I think this place is suffering from its own success. We visit when we come to stay with friends in Willingham, and have eaten many delicious and ample breakfasts there. This time though, it was busier than ever. Despite us arriving early on a Sunday morning 10.10 am, and having our order taken almost immediately this was the high point. Our teas and coffees took 15 minutes to arrive, but these had been consumed by the time I managed to persuade a member of staff that a 50 minute wait for breakfast was unacceptable. We then waited a further 10 minutes, and we then watched our meals be delivered to another table, whose occupants said it wasn't theirs. However these were left at that table anyway going cold in the process by the time we persuaded a member of staff that these were our meals. No apologies, they were just dumped to us. Mistakes I can understand happen, but the delays are not acceptable

It all started to go wrong as soon as we walked up to the courtyard expecting someone to show us to our table as per the booking email, after waiting a while we approached a lady and eventually we were shown to a table. My friend asked for some bottled water straight away as she’d been before, it never turned up! We ordered our meals and again asked for a bottle or jug of water, plus a latte, we got two glasses of water and a mug of warm milk! I called the lady over and asked for it to be changed, then the food arrived, id ordered a chicken, mozzarella, sliced tomato and tomato pesto panini, I opened it up to find no mozzarella or sliced tomato. It was returned to have mozzarella added but still no tomato, the coffee was replaced but it was still weak, luke warm, the lady said because of the issues she would knock the coffee of the bill. Overall a very disappointing lunch, my poor friend was gutted as she had invited me out for a farewell lunch.

I arrived on time at 12.30 and went through to the courtyard as it said on the sign, but at least 6 waitresses passed me waiting at the booking table and ignored me. To make matters worse, when a group of diners arrived from the car park they were immediately welcomed by a waitress and seated immediately. I then asked another waitress about our booking and then they had a discussion with another member of staff and I was told they had double booked and hence our table was not available. Our party of 3 may have an extra person, so I asked if this would be possible. They offered me to either wait until a table became free or sit in the uncovered part. Since it was a bit cold and windy, then the uncovered part was not that inviting, so decided to leave, since it could have been a long wait for a table. So very disappointed by their double booking of our table and hope this is not a normal occurrence to ensure tables are filled. I understand that it is not good for restaurants when people don’t show up, but overbooking isn’t a good approach. Hopefully this is just a one off mistake on the part of the person who took the booking., rather than a policy. On the experience of being ignored by waitresses while standing at booking table and then larger group arriving given priority, maybe because it was just me and others hadn’t arrived yet, then this needs to be resolved urgently.

What was once a cafe that supplemented a busy auction house is now a sizeable cafe and well worth a visit in it’s own right. It is now spread over several locations within this complex of old barns, includes a large outdoor and an under-cover area with heaters. All is nicely presented and the staff as pleasant as it gets. I’m not sure what the white mats on the back of some chairs are about but the overall effect is very rural and very relaxing. The lunchtime menu includes quiche, plenty of salads, panini, sarnies, etc and all complemented with a range of beverages. Soya milk is available on request, which always shows whether an establishment values it’s customers.

There is plenty of parking on site but movement around the areas would be difficult for someone of limited mobility. The cloakroom facilities are away from the cafe, outside across a gravel drive. The Auction Rooms have recently added a new barn for displaying top quality outdoor patio furniture so there is plenty of interest across the site.

Part of the WILLINGHAM Auction Rooms so lots to see before the next sale and also some items available to buy there and then. Relaxed surroundings and plenty of seating. Clean & uncrowded. The vegetarian quiche was beautifully cooked. Pastry was good & the filling was fresh, hot and generous. The green bean salad we chose to accompany it was crisp, colourful & very tasty too. None of it, I felt, needed the Balsamic dressing that was drizzled over the plate... happier if that wasn't there BUT a really pleasant & also healthy meal with welcoming family run team.

. . . Kathy Horack

We have been coming to Willingham for years and have watched with pleasure the expansion of the business and the evolution of the café into the best in the area. Similarly, we know the auctioneer SD can be rather curt, to say the least. However on this occasion we took our pal who had just lost her mum and wanted to auction various items that had been left to her and he was dreadful. Like most people, I cannot stand it when someone who is supposed to be dealing with me, breaks off to chat to someone else and look at their items while we stand there like lemons. So rude. He was simply not prepared to give us any time to go through the bits and pieces we had brought and made various derogatory remarks about some of the items. O.K., we knew that not everything would be suitable for auction but his handling of our friend was downright brutal. He gave us a quickly scrawled docket with no details or description of the lots we submitted so we just hope that they don't go astray and are, indeed allocated to the correct seller. We then went into the café and had a lovely lunch but, sadly, the damage had been done and I think it unlikely that we will repeat the experience.

Came here as it was recommended. So glad I did. Wonderful homemade food of excellent quality, then spent the afternoon wandering around the auction room. The staff in the tea rooms were very friendly, as was the beautiful spaniel! We were lucky as it was a lovely hot day, the grounds made me feel like I was in the South of France. Will be returning soon!

A lovely little popular cafe with an auction room attached. Food is mainly home made and is to a high standard. Cheese Scones superb here. I had more than enough food on my plate, service was good and prices are mid-range, slightly overpriced. Lots of choice on menu. Plenty of seating outdoors and indoors.

Lovely quiet cafe, serving selection of sandwiches and lunches, seating area inside and outside in an enclosed courtyard when weather is favourable. Recommend the quiche and salad or lasagne and salad very good portions and well priced. The cakes are also very tasty and well presented.

Visiting here is such a treat as not many auction houses offer such great refreshments. Having eaten here on quite a few occasions the food never disappoints. All food is freshly prepared in the small but bustling kitchen. This place isn't exclusive to the auction house and is enjoyed by many locals too.

Bought our staff here for a quick lunch, but you can pop in on your own and still feel welcome. the food is delicious, well cooked and of good portion size, there's excellent variety even for the fussy eater. Staff are lovely. only down side is that it does get busy the week of an auction!

I visited here a couple of months ago with family, we were a party of 8. I didn’t leave a review before as I didn’t know the café was on TripAdvisor. The place has plenty of parking and although there isn’t much space inside, its ample and for warmer months theres is a load of gorgeous outdoor seating. The café itself is a lovely old barn. On the day that we visited it was a lovely sunny day, it was mid-week but it was absolutely heaving. It was around 1pm and they had run out of a few things and service was quite muddled. I've only been here once so i'm not sure if its usually that busy or if that was down to the lovely weather but we waited a long time for our food. Once it arrived it was very nice although the chilli had been microwaved within an inch of its life. Everyone enjoyed their meals though and some also opted for some cake, which apparently was lovely.

We have just moved into the area and thought we would would pay a brief lunch visit after reading previous reviews. The staff are cheerful, helpful and polite and the food fresh and tasty. This will definitely be on my list of places to lunch. I also enjoyed a little browse around the sale rooms, very interesting and thinking of going to the next auction. All well worth a visit

i was very dissappointed with my recent and last trip to the cafe, I was with my family and girlfriend and after visiting the auction I stopped in at the cafe for something to eat, I knew the food was very overpriced from previous experience but we were all hungry. We all ordered our food except my girlfriend who is vegetarian and could not find anything from the menu that didn't include meat, we politely asked if we could have just a fried egg sandwich as there was no other option.....the look on the faces of the satff was as if I had just asked for a three course meal to be made from scratch, all we wanted was an egg in a bun! But no, this was not allowed and they don't make exceptions....although we could order anything that had an egg in a have all the other items removed...leaving an egg! But at 3 times the price, I was absolutely dismayed by their response and horrendous customer service, the women who served us was so rude I actually couldnt believe what I was hearing. The ironary of it all was when I sat down and read the document on my table it stated 'staff will go the extra mile to please' except of course if you ask them for anything! I will never be stepping foot in the cafe again.

I'm a regular (weekly) visitor to the auction cafe and can't praise it enough. The food is excellent, homemade and the price reflects the quality of the ingredients. The staff are always friendly, it's my first choice for client lunch meetings as my clients love it.I fully appreciate having such a wonderful place to meet, eat and exchange business right on my doorstep. It's not easy in current times to find somewhere that doesn't serve 'thrown together, processed food' I'm quite shocked that anyone would feel it's overpriced. Perhaps they are comparing good homecooked food to the likes of McDonalds?Huge well done to the entire team down there - keep doing what you're doing.

We were very disappointed by how we were received at this cafe. Having a cup of tea while we mulled over the overpriced menu was not an option; we had to pay immediately for anything ordered which for the setting was very unreasonable. When we were joined by a friend with a well behaved small child we asked if we could please have a high chair. We were told "no". No apology, no niceties, just no! We will not be going back.

A superb little cafe, food is simply lovely and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Most food is homemade and is prepared onsite and can be seen being prepared whilst you wait. Good range of food and special diets catered for, will also prepare food of your choosing to meet your needs.Big tables, plenty of room and you can stay as long as you like with no one trying to hurry you up. Prices for food a little high, but you get what you pay for and more.Myself and my cousin ordered tea for two and the teapot held enough for four people and more. Generous portions of food. Good service and friendly helpful staff. Only minus was sugar dispenser needed filling. Overall a must visit location with the added benefit of a lovely set of auction rooms and barns to look around and maybe bid on that must have item.
