The white horse in South Cambridgeshire

My wife found this pub as a stop off on our journey from Birmingham to London via A14 and M11. We had lunch which was fantastic. I had Thai green curry and my wife had the salmon tempura. Both reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly. It is out of the way, buy worth the diversion for the food.

Lovely village pub. Warm welcome and staff were very attentive and friendly. We even met Trevor , the manager/ chef ! Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely open fireplace .Delicious, home -cooked traditional pub food . Would highly recommend and will be returning, thankyou

My view of a good night out in a local pub is a relaxing atmosphere, pleasant staff and good pub food. Unfortunately The White Horse at Oakington falls down on the atmosphere and one of the staff who served us. She stomped, at speed, around the pub in a very uptight fashion all evening, especially after we made a request to have our meal served on plates instead of the wooden boards they usually use. Unfortunately it was nothing like the relaxing evening we had hoped for and we won’t be returning

I had the battered cod and chips. Omg I have never had cod so beautifully done and the chips were amazing. My friend had scampi and chips and my daughter had the butternut squash and chips and veg. Everything was perfect. Highly rate the food and service.

We went for lunch on a weekday and it was very quiet (to be expected) but the food and service was still excellent. Good, non-pretentious, pub grub. I will be going back to try their Sunday roast!

Myself and two teens had lunch here. The choice was great but my teens were fussy. The young woman taking the order asked what they would like and the girls had that. They loved the food. Cosy place and great food.

Super traditional pub, the food is plentiful and extremely tasty.

Mid week dinner catch up with a friend. Quiet little pub enabled us to do this. Lovely food, good service, nice environment. We will be back.

Missing onion rings from Cajun chicken burgers, you could tell the food was standard cash and carry fair

Lovely family friendly pub, staff are so lovely and welcoming. Great service and the food is always prompt and tasty. Can’t fault this place, been going for years and will continue to go for many more while the standards are as good as they are now.

Fantastic all round....food, drink and atmosphere.

Food is always good there, generous portion and very pub food + some extra options. The staff are friendly with lots of locals events weekly. 1 baby seat only currently which let us down but luckily we were close enough to go home and get something (April24).

Staff where lovely helpful but the "chef "sent out a burger which the top bun was burnt and you could see where he tried to scrape the the carbon off it before surviving when chief came out I pointed out the problem he said but the burger meat is fine so whats the problem, if the bread holding the burger is burnt then no it's not fine! The bun was burnt so he sent out a half frozen bun i was charged £14 for a homemade burger which i later found out was shop bought as the chef blurted out in his stupidity!! owner&chef?? Youd get better value for money going to mc donalds honestly what a joke

Don't tell everybody, but this local pub is really great! Well supported by the village, the food is always excellent and reasonably priced.

Freezing cold, needed to keep our coats on. Although one of our party had rung to ask about gluten free food and was assured that they did gluten free, this seemed to be not the case not much option and felt that she was a nuisance for asking for it and no desserts were gluten free. Ordered our food after 20 minute wait they came to inform us they couldn't find any pork for the pulled pork burger! After 45mins one of the meals came out after another 5 to 10 minutes 2 more meals came out and after another 5 minutes the fourth meal came out. Would have been nice for all of us to eat together. The food was very good after such a long wait shame it was dished up on a wood board do not like these at all, we all would have preferred a plate. Ordered dessert after 5 minutes came back to say they had no Eton mess, if you do not have anything should not be on the menu. Just be warned if you go this time of the year you need your ski wear on as it really is freezing cold and that was sitting next to a radiator.

A great place to eat during covid lockdown, service, food and beer very good. We will be going again. The special pie was incredible

Went for a buffet after a funeral. Amazing spread. Five different sandwiches, quiche, spring rolls, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, chicken balls plus a selection of cakes served with tea and coffee. Best buffet I have ever seen! Far better than top hotels and location is convenient for the crematorium.

Sunday roast was very enjoyable, but mainly posting this review to show my appreciation for Anna! She did so much to make sure all our needs were met and did it all with a smile! Great atmosphere because of this, and the drinks were lovely too.

We tried the White Lion for the first time for a relatives birthday. The food was delicious, served quickly and we all enjoyed our meals, every plate was empty! We will return!

Good food, good staff and a fun night.

Not impressed with my first visit to this pub. Not child friendly at all and was shockingly quiet considering it was a Sunday. Took a while to get ordered since the waiter probably didn’t realise she forgot to ask what we wanted and the food took over 40 minutes to come. Wouldn’t advise coming here especially if you have kids (the place is also quite small so my child got very bored inside)

Visited on 22/04/2023, there was a good choice of dishes and I chose the green Thai chicken curry which was lovely. Other family members I was with had a variety of dishes which were lovely to and the portions were really generous and freshly cooked. Would definitely visit again.

Great local pub with a lovely garden and a good selection of beers and, what I loved even more - desserts! Huge thanks to the staff who looked after us (large table with 2 toddlers) for their immense patience.

We booked the White Horse for a wake event for my father. The food provided, professional service and value for money were excellent. Very friendly bar staff who were able to look after 50+ guests with no issues. Would thoroughly recommend.

We have had 3 Sunday lunches in the last 5 weeks and all have been excellent! We have also had many lovely evening meals and the staff are very friendly and the pub garden is lovely!

The food is always good. Never have I ever had cause to complain. Service is friendly, prices are very reasonable. Visiting friends always ask to come here for a meal.

Excellent Landlord ail. The tomato soup would have been better if it had arrived hot. The bread on the side of the soup was not tasty (either serve a better bread, or do not serve bread at all) 4 stars due to the ail and the local atmosphere.

this was a clean and tidy pub with friendly attentive staff the food that i had was fantastic the steak mushroom and ale pie was huge and very filling.

We were staying close by and eent here for an evening meal, we both had the roast, which was epic, we both enjoyed it.

A lovely village pub within cycling distance from Longstanton, Northstowe & Oakington. Came in a Saturday eve and given a warm welcome, food was great, lots of homemade dishes such as Lasagne and sticky toffee pudding. Drinks and food were reasonable and there is a lovely beer garden. On many cycle routes from neighbouring villages. Use these local pubs or loose them.

Excellent service, brilliant food. Called late to reserve a table and was met with no problem at all. Great food, great drink and excellent service - HIGHLY Recommended

Went on a Sunday, very busy and the tables are crammed in. Food was OK, car park very small, had to park in the street and resident opposite the pub didn’t seem very happy. Don't think we'd go again.

I visited this pub with my family for an evening meal. It was quiet and clean. The food was served in good time and tasted good. I had ribs. The steak was also very good. Prices are reasonable. Would go back.

i was in the area for a gathering with a couple of friends, and the food was decent. staff were friendly however, my review comes from a slight concern about how the staff are treated. where we were sat, we were able to hear someone (who i could assume to be the manager or main chef as he was wearing a chef outfit) speaking down to one of the front of house staff and visibly, the person who was being spoken down to looked very upset afterwards. i felt as though it was incredibly unprofessional and it frankly made me rather uncomfortable to be there. i’m rarely ever in the area anyway, but i feel as though i will not return next time i am around, as i don’t think i want to invest money into a place where workers are being mistreated.

We came to the White Horse for a quick lunch on Saturday. The food was delicious: the chicken fajitas were to die for, and the ribs were amazing too. Very generous portions too! They have a very nice outdoor seating area, and the staff were lovely too. We'll definitely be coming back here in the future!

Great traditional British pub food, friendly atmosphere and a lovely garden for the kids. In the winter they have 2 log burners one in the bar and one in the restaurant. Friendly locals.

I had roast lamb with all you would expect. It was really good. I will return again for sure. Even gave my dog a bowl of water. Excellent

We lost our dad a few weeks ago and couldn't find somewhere for the wake and a friend of mine said about the pub and I knew Trevor from a few years ago ,so my sister rung them and he was happy for us to do that so we sorted out catering and the food and the service were really nice and the food was lovely also and all staff very helpful and friendly also and would use again socially also xx

Popped into The White Horse for lunch with some friends, it used to be our local when we lived in Oakington in the 80's. My wife (who has a gluten free and dairy free diet) had the chicken jalfrezi, rice and poppadoms which she really enjoyed. I had the chicken and ham pie with chips which was very tasty. Will pop back when we are in the area - enjoyable.

I went here for my birthday meal and I have to say I had a fantastic time. There was 8 of us and every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the portions were great and one of my party was dairy and gluten free and they created her a wonderful meal and made her feel apart of it all, nothing seemed too much trouble for them and everything was cooked to perfection. They certainly helped make my birthday special.

Food was very good. Just nice being out out and lunching inside. Very good, welcoming pub. Only four stars as it was a little chilly.

They serve amazing fresh home made food. The ales are extremely well kept as well. The service was quick and efficient with a smile. I would highly recommend it for any occasion!

Great place to get a drink to relax

Brilliant food (ask about the specials board), the staff and services was excellent. Great atmosphere and all round lovely experience. I've been on several occasions and this is the normal service that they provide. Just amazing, hope to visit the White Horse again soon.

Always a favourite, the food is well presented and plentiful. The staff are pleasant and efficient. Sunday lunch is excellent, plenty of veg. good size Yorkshire pud. and good selection of desserts. Great care has been taken to stick to social distancing and hygiene. Anyone nervous about eating out at this time would be at ease here. Always a pleasure .
