Best fish and chips for miles, worth travelling for. Delicious every time. Earlier this evening, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked piece of fresh cod with a light crispy batter. All the staff are friendly and "on the ball". Bravo !

Popped in for lunch as I was working in Waterbeach and love cod and chips. I wasn’t disappointed. Lovely crispy batter on a proper large bit of cod and lovely chips which filled me up. The young lady who served me took care of me well,with informal,but friendly caring service. Overall a great experience.

This is the best, most consistent, chippy I've been to. The cod and chips are always amazing, and something I always look forward to. The staff here are lovely people as well. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

I have found my favourite chippy!! Now.... I can't give an opinion on the fish because I don't eat it. BUT! The chips are the best I've ever tasted!! It's hard to explain but, they taste just like chips used to taste when I was a little kid and you would get them wrapped up in yesterday's newspaper lol, staff also incredibly polite, friendly and welcoming 😁👍

Had cod and chips absolutely all batter fish had been sitting cooked obvisouly as so dry chips greasy and expensive staff bloody miserable all in all worst fish/ chips I have had only good thing was had good clear out following morning !! I am a chef that is the problem nowadays people not knowing enough about providing good properly cooked food ! Abysmal .

Went to pick up takeaway after the Waterbeach feast in June 8th. Everyone had horrendous food poisoning later that night. Shitting and vomiting all night and all morning. Absolute disgrace of a restaurant. You should be absolutely ashamed. NEVER EVER EAT HERE. Tempted to put myself through it again but when the sickness kicks in I’ll come back to vomit and deficate all over your shop. You serve that crap so you can have it back. DISGUSTING.

The best fish and chips in Cambridgeshire by far a visit is a must they get a 10 out of 10 from us and we have been going there for 30years . The standard of the fish and chips has deteriorated as I mentioned above this was true when Sue and Eddy was running the show but now we have been there today and had the worst fish and chips we have ever had the fish was all over cooked and dried up and the chips was all bits and pieces and greasy it will be a long time before we return.as I mentioned before we started visiting this chippy in 1986 and are sorry to say this has now ended after 38 a very sad day.

Best bloody chippy ever!!! Loyalty card is amazing, always have a nice chat with the person who is serving me, Denier is lovely, perfect portion sizes, if you ask for a large, IT IS A LARGE!! really quick turn around too, in and out the door within 5 minutes every time.

Top quality fish and chips. I’ve lived in this village all my life and this place has been under various different stewardship over the years but the current owners are absolutely smashing it and have been doing for some years now. Proper old school fish and chips the way they should be! Lovely staff too.

First and last time I'll ever go there. Ordered fish and chips, by the time I got home the oil that was used to cook the fish had soaked through the bag and left a pool of oil in the bag. I couldn't eat anything because it was all soaked in oil.

You won't get better Fish and Chips anywhere in Cambridgeshire and beyond. The only negative point for me would be that there's no skin on the Cod. But that's the 'modern' world i guess (sadly).

Y don’t anderstand whay I need to pay extra £0,50 to pay by card if is less than £10 . Every day I bay a botel with water in coop and is £0’90 and I pay by card and I don’t pay extra nothing . I am not happy with your service

OMG 😜 😋😋😋😋AMAZING!!! I am writing this review as we have just finished what can only be described as the best Cod & Chips I have had for over 20 years!! The quality and quantity far outweighed our expectations. The 2 young ladies who served us were so polite and went the extra mile. We will be back and have eve started a loyalty card. Thank you for the most delicious meal 😋

Passing through feeling hungry and come across this gem

I had been keen to try out the food here as I had been working in the area often at the weekend, however was left somewhat disappointed. The food was expensive for pie, chips, battered sausage and a can of drink £13 somehow, maybe I'm getting old. Chips I would sadly describe as undercooked, sausage was okay, Pukka pies, can't really go wrong. The servers were however friendly enough. I'm not keen to revisit

Awesome service and quality at very affordable prices. You must try the haddock and the fish cakes. The only pity is that there's no place to seat during the waiting.

The Beach Fryer serve the most incredible fish and chips, not only that they have a friendly helpful team and a warm welcome when you walk through the door. Nothing is too much trouble and they will fry the fish to your liking, I am gluten intolerant and they always lightly batter for me. I know I shouldn’t but I can’t resist it. !!! Ring and place your order and ask for a loyalty card, you are going to need it! Thank you for making our fFriday fish night so delicious❣️

Food was very good and staff very friendly, would recommend!

I have been disappointed on my last two visits to the Beach Fryer. Tonight, the cod was a overcooked and the batter was certainly not light and crispy. The "small" portion of chips was big, but they were soggy. A year ago, the fish was perfectly cooked every time and worth the six mile round trip. Not anymore.

Ignore the odd comments clearly these people don't know good food, been a few times over the years and always have the best chips, just like seaside chips....lovely

A hidden gem one the best meals I've had in a long time.im from near whitby in Yorkshire and to find one of the best takeout I've ever had beautiful service and excellent quality staff and the food was second to none I had battered jumbo sausage chips and Curry. The chips were delicious and just right not greasy the sausage was very flavoursome and totally enjoyed and good old chip shop Curry with raisins perfect. Thank you for a lovly meal I will be back again.

I have been using waterbeach chippy for 40 years all through change of management..but love the food....this evening 25th june got my food home and was shocked..the fish was that small inside the batter .you had to look for it.and what was there was so dry l had to chew it..it was like had been left in hotplate for hours..but l know wasnt as cooked while l waited.it was so over cooked for size of fish..there batter is lovely and light crispy but that was the problem all batter no fish..chips were lovely as normal..but l ended up not eating as so disapointed with the fish.its size and how chewy it was ruined my dinner..l hope this was 1 off and the cook having bad day.cause if not that is one family of 5 that wont be using again .40.00 pound for food that was not good.....

Can't fault the fish and chips here, very good indeed. A little pricey but everywhere is nowadays.

I love, love, love the Beach Fryer! I live in Seattle in America and visit Mum in Waterbeach frequently. Our tradition is to have fish and chips my first and last night here. Mum says they have the best fish and chips around and I agree! The staff are always pleasant and efficient. Thank you Beach Fryer!

Good and bad about this place the good is the staff are nice and friendly but the bad is the chips is under cooked. I think I will give it a miss next time...

Went back last night as husband wanted Chinese so I picked up dish and chips, I can honestly say the nicest I have had from there and will certainly back, also a nice portion not too big or small

Haddock, cod and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. All exactly as we like it. Not masses of batter, so not soaked in oil. Friendly service.

After a long day my partner and I decided to try out the Beach Fryer as we didn’t want to cook. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion size, enough to fill us up and then some! The food was delicious, we ordered the nuggets, chips and curry sauce. This may have been the best chip shop curry sauce I’ve ever tasted and the batter on the nuggets was crispy and delicious. Staff are friendly and the shop has a very welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!

Jst been in the beach Fryer, water beach. The cod super was unreal. The chips are great, the batter was fine and crispy.. Perfect👌!! . Really nice guy served me too. New favourite chippy,? I think so😁

I'm always looking for a good chippy and haven't really been blown away by any in Cambridge when compared to some on the coast. I think that's changed today, with my first visit here. When I walked in there was the lovely aroma of clean, fresh frying, not greasy at all. I had large haddock which was cooked to order and huge, spanking fresh and sweet, precisely cooked so the fish was still beautifully moist. Batter was light and crispy, and just thick enough to protect the fish. Chips were great too, crisp and fluffy. These folks know what they're doing and care about it. Excellent.

after reading the reviews on here, we were excited to enjoy great fish and chips. Sadly, the fish was dry and the chips were not cooked to our liking as they looked very pale, so not attractive. We ended up putting half into the bin.

This fish and chip shop has really improved from a couple of years ago. Ate here on Saturday night and even though towards the end of service the batter on the cod was light and crisp and not greasy, and the chips were evenly cooked, crisp outers and soft and fluffy inside, and again not greasy as they so often are at the end of service. All the food was piping hot. Not the cheapest fish and chips but certainly some of the best. Comparable to that classic taste of fish and chips you get on the Norfolk coast.

This is the first time we visited The Beach Fryer and we will definitely be going back! The owners were lovely and explained the menu and choices available. We had cod and chips each, and the portion size was huge for the price. The chips were delicious and the fish was light and crispy. They make their own curry sauce and mushy peas too (which of course we had to try) and both were really yummy. Would highly recommend!

This is not my nearest fish and chip shop so I do make a bit of an effort to buy from here and experience in the past has made the trip worthwhile. Sadly not this visit, I ordered a large haddock together with a standard cod for the boss, I understand that the cod was good but not so for the haddock. Whilst it was indeed large it was also quite dry, not convinced fresh and the batter overcooked and really not edible. (The birds loved it). In addition the chips not really up to what I have had in past visits. During my wait the television in the corner was on all the time and showing a chinese film with sound on and frankly all the staff seemed more interested in this than anything else. Maybe they were just having a bad day. Not cheap at £15 for two pieces of fish and a medium chips for take out. There are fish and chip shops closer to home, for next time I will use these for sure.

You are always guaranteed a friendly welcome from Eddie and Sue when you walk into here. The quality of the food is excellent. It regularly wins awards for being one of the best chip shops in Cambridgeshire and people travel from the surrounding area to eat here. The chips are lovely and crispy and not at all greasy.

Not many places to eat in Waterbeach, but I’m glad The Beach Fryer is there. Delicious food very filling and friendly Cantonese staff.

Quality food; freshly cooked as turnover is high. Good variety of alternatives to fish. (The fish cakes are my daughter's favourite choice). Service is good even at the busiest times.

I visit most times when I am down back hone from the big smoke. The staff are friendly and never had a bad fish and chips from there. Reasonable prices compared to others in the area.

This is your average chip shop. Friendly staff who always have a smile on their face. Prices are fairly average. Some items can be quite greasy and repeats on you all afternoon.

I asked for a large fish, they'd ran out, I asked for a fresh cooked medium fish, the lady on the till refused to cook 1 while I wait and said that the one under the lamp was fresh, despite what the customer wants so I settled for the fish on hold. I then asked if the curry sauce was vegetarian, I couldn't get a straight answer, she said "I think so" but didn't offer to check ingredients. Nor was there information available for customers to check ingredients (this should be available in all food outlets) I was not offered salt & vinegar, I had to tell her to put it on after she wrapped my food. The entire time the lady owner was berating what I would assess to be her son who was also working with her.once home I realised that the oil had not been changed in the fryers for some time.although the fish was nice, the chips tasted of burnt lard.....over priced muck, rude staff.

Got to be one of the best fish and chip shops in the country. Locals travel to this one even if they have a chippy in their own village. I don't know when it first opened, but I have been going there for over 50 years.

Chips are tasty but not exceptional and the sausages too are good value. Batter is crispy. However the food is covered in grease which soaks through the paper bags. Service is quick and staff are friendly. Food could be improved for an overall better experience.

By no means cheap but good value. Your certainly get what you pay for and the place is reassuringly clean. It's a shame it's not open more

The haddock was freshly cooked and came in a very light and crispy batter much better than most chip shops can do. The chips were tasty too.

In my opinion this is by far the best fish and chip shop in the region.The fish is cooked to perfection in a lovely light batter and the chips are always excelent , its busy but service is always very quick, well worth a visit .

This is a good little fish and chip shop, always very busy on a Friday evening. I've always found the fish and chips here good value for money. The battered fish are always tasty and so are the chips. They do a good curry sauce and mussy peas too.

Im a frequent visitor to my local chippy. The fish is always golden and tasty. A couple of disappointments is the battered sausages always seem to be dry and reheated and the chips are quite soggy. Always leave it until an hour after opening time so you get all the fresh items.

Took my family to a new years dinner party....food was fantastic,so was the manager.....had a great time and will visit again......
