Williams Pub in Calderdale

Great local pub, staff always fruendly. On cold days wood burner is on. Sometimes have live music. Beer garden keeps the Sun until late afternoon/early evening. And last but not least well kept, quality beers at value for money prices.

Falsely advertised a wheat beer. The staff were not very welcoming either. The live music they had in the beer garden was good

Nice little find, didn’t eat but food was very popular and looked nice.

Never sure why this place doesnt get a bigger crowd. Nice subdued lighting. Warm. Clean. Nice music. Roaring fire. What's not to like. I love it here.

Spot on pints of Jaipur. Had a nice chat to Will the new owner. Love the ambience of the place. Fabulous Woodburner much needed after the inclement weather. Bar staff were friendly and helpful. Look forward to another visit especially utilising the amazing outdoor space

Just a note...Clearly we are experiencing poor reviews from certain individuals and idiots that have never been in our pub and that are part of a group or local business with nothing else better to do but choose to harass us. Pls ignore them we are on it working with Google...it's boring now get a life!!

A cashless establishment so they don't get my business. Never mind, they'll be out of business soon.

Was really looking forward to trying this place. Had travelled to try them because people had said how great they were but left before eating and unfortunately won’t be going back as cashless and card isn’t an option for me!!!

Lovely pub with nice atmosphere. Visited on a very sunny day, lots of outdoor seating available with shaded areas available and dog friendly. Will definitely be visiting again

Nice little pub with a surprisingly wide selection of gins and tonics to pair. Got a bit rowdy so maybe give it a miss if looking for a quiet one over the weekend.

The outside seating area is amazing. We were fortunate to get good weather and it felt like I was abroad on my holidays! Good selection of alcoholic beverages and friendly staff. I would recommend.

Decent pub but they seem to need the heating on at 30°.. I was sweating like Jimmy Savile on a cubs camping trip .. decent t boozer tho

Pint was nice and cold. Beer garden was modern and spacious. For 2 pints of Strongbow it was £7.60 so not ridiculous but about what you'd expect. Music was at a pleasurable level. Only complaints would be that the table service due to covid took 15 minutes to actually get a drink, more staff would be wise. Plus the steps going up to the toilets. The steps and all of upstairs stunk of the bathroom

Nice pub.. Loads of room outside. Not much beer to choose from. But enough for us and Good for a cheeky pint.

Visited the 2nd weekend after covid restrictions where lifted to allow indoor dinning/boozing. Wide selection of drinks, felt very comfortable and staff where very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Lovely outdoor area BUT the whole experience is ruined by very slow service of which the staff and manager are completely unconcerned about. When mentioned the manager got upset shouting what can he do about it if we don’t like it go somewhere else!! The manager btw was very happy to sit down with his mates, while people all around were growing more agitated at the lack of service and attention :( Won’t recommend this place due to the little respect they have for their patrons.

Shocking service, slow, then when we spoke to the manager he told my friend to 'f' off and proceeded to shout abuse at him. Some younger guys were having a beer they brought in due to the length of time we were all waiting then got kicked out, we had our own beer and were fine.

This was my first, and last, trip to this pub. My husband called them during the week to ask if dogs were permitted in the outdoor area and then having found that they were, booked a table for 4 people. We arrived and all of the tables were taken, so we asked about our booking - only for my husband to be quite brutally called a liar for saying we had booked. We would never say we had made a booking if we hadn’t. Had we been told there is no booking when we called, if they had said it’s a first come first served, then absolutely fine. But that is not what we were told when we called. We managed to secure a table when another party moved on - we would not have stayed to be honest but a family friend was performing and we wanted to sit and listen / watch. Equally there were too few waiting staff for the amount of space / seats (and the waiting staff were actually nice and were working exceptionally hard) so the wait for drinks was pretty lengthy. Never ever again ....

He then proceeded to get the order machine and tend to that table, and NEVER came back to get our order whilst continuing to ignore our presence. After waiting so long and being confronted with rude staff we left an hour later, before having any drinks. Truly shocking service and ruined an otherwise pleasant evening in the sunshine. We won’t be going back and would not recommend to anyone.

Absolutely shocking customer service. VERY rude people. I have received an extremely horrible and disgusting message from Williams about my review. They cannot accept that one pint was bad... we used to go to Williams often before a meal, and it was only the last time we went we sent a pint back because it was truly awful! Why could they not accept that one pint was bad? We never said they didn’t clean the lines, we didn’t say anything. It could have been anything! It was a bad pint - simple as!! You don’t give that customer abuse. Then, after they said they would not do anything about it, my boyfriend came back outside with the bad pint and said they wouldn’t do anything. Then, we just left outside the back way... They have tried to say that they should have thrown us out? For what exactly? Sitting and then politely leaving because we couldn’t be bothered with arguing about a pint? You have lost a lot of customers. SHOCKING. REVOLTING, in fact.

This pub was so badly managed, the owners were rude and the pub smelt really bad. My table was sticky and I felt unsafe. Terrible customer service will never go again, beer tasted awful and they told me it was something i ate i work in pubs i know what beer should taste like and i know when lines havent been cleaned

Went in for a swift one, place is grotty, smelt like stale booze (vinegar) the ‘owner’ was slouched at the end of the bar barking orders and having inappropriate gross conversations about his business, and personal life. Heard him speak to some customers that were complaining in a foul way....Not great to overhear when you want to sit in peace. Won’t visit again... good luck

We come here often but on our recent visit we ordered a pint of fosters which tasted bad (we never send drinks back) however was told by the owner “is it something you have eaten? Have you had a curry?” (No lol) and he refused to do anything about it... terrible customer service, terrible pint

Refurbished a few years ago and always kept clean and sparkling. A great selection of beers and a very welcoming atmosphere from friendly staff.

drinks are really expensive dark and dingy pub wont be rushing back ..don't want to pay for refurb need to lower prices always empty when you visit I wonder why !!

What a wonderful place to relax over a pint or two or maybe even try one of Chris's Gins. Nice and clean and tidy, Chris behind the bar is a pleasant and friendly young man who you can have quite a nice chat with. So if you're passing, my recommendation would be, not too, just give yourself a little time to call in and enjoy some friendly hospitality that is on offer at Williams. N. White. South Wales.

Lovely place. The great weather helped as we sat in the beautiful beer garden (terraced decking with well tended hanging baskets) and the beer was great and in a wonderful condition. I had 'Lemon Dream' by Salopian Brewery. Great for a sunny day. Don't be fooled by the anonymity from the front street; it's really worth a visit!

Majority of times I have been I have enjoyed it, more recently though I have a some stale beer which you would expect from there. Been again since and it was fine.

The kind folk at Williams knocked me up a takeway despite not offering it as an option, and it was absolutely delightful. The dim sum and beef rendang come especially recommended.

Paseando por la calle con mi pareja y nuestros dos perros bien educados y encantados de encontrar nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos y disfrutamos de una deliciosa comida tailandesa y varias pintas de ale. ¡Qué hallazgo! Espero que este lugar no ha convertido en tan popular que no puedo conseguir sin reserva en el futuro.

Visitamos el pub en varias ocasiones pero probé el nuevo menú tailandés excepcional. La combinación de un buen ambiente y la gran habilidad de los jefes que son una garantía de una buena experiencia. El menú no es amplio, pero ofrece una buena selección de comida sabrosa. El personal es atento y servicial se desvivieron para asegurarse de que teníamos una buena noche.

En esta noche para llamado una comida tailandesa y nos quedamos encantados con la calidad de la comida que se sirve. La comida es de la misma calidad que previamente el restaurante tailandés que estaba situado en la calle del ayuntamiento y tristemente cerrado tras las inundaciones el día del Boxeo. Espero que esta nueva colaboración entre Williams y Wa Panan Tailandés será una muy exitosa y duradera colaboración.

This pub is good inside and out. It has a nice sunny decked area outside and a beautifully modernised inside within a traditional old stone building. There is a good selection of wines and beers and the recently franchised Thai food partnership means you can combine a traditional English pub with authentic freshly cooked Thai food - a true fusion! Give it a try, you will like it.

Really nice for drinks but try the food too. Tapas is very good tasty well presented and good value for money.

Called in on Sunday for a quick drink and we're invited to stay and try out a sample of the new Thai food. I can honestly say it was the best thing we have eaten in a long while,brilliantly cooked and well presented,so full marks ladies! Will be returning asap as soon as we know the official launch date. We stopped at The Williams on Sunday evening- and had a wonderful Thai banquet. The chefs had the spices and flavours just perfectly. The atmosphere was a real party atmosphere- with everyone enjoying the food. Really looking forward to the Thai food starting on 11th October.

Saturday night in the William was very enjoyable. Stopped for drinks with friends. Great atmosphere and an OK choice of wines and beers. Good service. Not sure if they serve food on a Saturday night but it was late when we arrived.

Place was empty on Sunday afternoon! Asked for a lager and a half of soda water and was told the soda was going to cost £1.60! That makes fizzy water more expensive than the lager!!!! The place was very clean inside but externally was very neglected.

Came here over easter for Sunday lunch. Excellent scallop starter with roast beef main nicely cooked. As it was easter I was saving room for easter eggs so didn't have the dessert but my dining guests deserts looked very good. Nice choice of ale and lager too. Would recommend this place.

Stopped here for a bite to eat, never been before but was suitably impressed, I had the beef and Yorkshire pud, the wife had the cumberland sausage, both meals were excellent. The place was clean and tidy, the service was professional and efficient. I would and will certainly go back.

We finally got to eat at Williams and can only recommend everybody try it. Sunday lunch excellent, from presentation to taste and portion size. Two courses or three the choice and cost are spot on. There is a rumour that the Owner / Chef starts to prepare his gravy 3 days before, if this is true then it jutst shows what a perfectionist he is, the taste was amazing. There are various twists on established dishes and they all work. It's a shame more people are not aware of thi great alternative venue.

We had booked a table at Syhiba just over the road from Williams, we were a little early, so the 6 of us came across for drinks, it was clean sparse and had a few people in, the drinks were normally priced, and there was a good selection., the bar staff were happy to help. We have been in here before but some time ago. We went for our meal at Syhiba (which was amazing) then came back to Williams for drinks so you are doing something right guys.Thanks

we go here for drinks all the time, its a pub, but we keep seeing all the food signs but have never seen anybody in there eating, so we decided to give it a go.....we ordered our food at the bar, (so not a restaurant) and paid for it, then waited,and waited,and waited, food then arrived, it was cold,my steak was very well done, i asked for medium rare, all in all its as we thought, its a pub that's trying to be a restaurant, there is so much competition in sowerby bridge and most of them are really good, compared to what we had here. we will be back guys but only for drinks.

I took my daughter as a treat tuesday night just happened to stumble on there and all i can say is it was well worth the visit the lady who served us was friendly and couldnt do enough for you, its very clean place.We has 2 tbone steaks with chunky chips and veg omg it was sssooo good best we have had in a very long time, the chef did a perfect job with how the steak was cooked. Thanks for such a great welcome and excellent food.We definately will be back soon. Go check this great place out you will love it.

people must be kidding themselves! i went in this pub 2 times:the first one no one was at the bar.NO ONE.We wait for like..10 min?no one came.I gave it another go and the person at the bar was more interested in chatting with someone else then serve me and my friends.The location is good,clean place ...good luck on getting served .

We wanted a good location for a family get together and fab food and we certainly weren't disappointed. We were a party of 18 and the Williams delivered everything and more. We had our room for the day so we could all be together and not disturb any other diners. The decor is lovely, very clean and very welcoming. Even though our advance booking was for 16 people they very easily accommodated two extra people. The food was absolutely stunning. The menu looks limited but don't be fooled as the food is exceptional. With a chef that has worked on the QE2 and at the Savoy you can't go wrong. The garlic mushrooms were very tasty and moreish. The lamb was stunning too. And everything was delivered on lovely warm plates. So if you're looking for lovely surroundings, fab food and a warm welcome look no further than the Williams. We'll definitely be making a return visit.

Loved the food and the atmosphere at Williams. Well worth a visit since the Chef is from QE2 and The Savoy Hotel so you know what to expect. Would definitely recommend and go back in the near future!

Friendly staff, good location and dog friendly. Have not tried the food but it does look amazing and freshly cooked to order. If you did not know this place was here then give it a try. The staff go to extra lengths to make your visit worthwhile. The venue is suitable for family or special occasion bookings, the menu can be adapted to your requirements and there is a private dining area for parties.

We are regulars at Williams, mostly for a drink in a great pub. This evening we were there with our son and partner and had a great meal. The steak baguette sharing plate would have fed three and the steak and ale pies the men enjoyed were fantastic. One of the best meals we have had locally for ages. Oh, the price is great as well. Carry on the good work.
