Ivy House in Calderdale

Came to this establishment and received grief from underage staff and will not be going back due to the awful of this place

Great value and top quality pre xmas dinner with good vegetarian option and homemade desserts

Brilliant traditional food and staff members are wonderful

The Ivy has always been clicky place but the Sunday roast is worth the gauntlet of stares and perhaps book as its always busy with people not eating, so you can find a table. Staff are friendly, prices are very reasonable too. The carvery was being refreshed when we went for ours but it was worth waiting for and there is plenty of choice too.

Been several times, usually in a large group.... fantastic meals, piping hot, generous and good value. WONDERFUL that I can have GF! Only thing that puts me off us very loud music speakers directly over the dining area.

Excellent range of drinks. Very friendly bar staff and waitresses. Large beer garden perfect for those sunny afternoons

Went for Sunday carvery , been many time , this week food not too good ends of meat joints and quite dry , also food not too hot , staff welcoming friendly ant great atmosphere, see you all again soon

Not visited here in over 10 years. Lovely staff, excellent food. Great atmosphere. My partner had the sesame chicken, although he miss pronounced it, they knew what he meant. I had the steak pie. Absolutely delicious. Can't wait to visit again.

Traditional pub with fantastic traditional grub, would be how I describe The Ivy House. Visited upon recommendation from a family friend for two birthdays. The food is banging!! The chips are the nicest I've tasted in decades! Everyone has left happy and full to the brim. Couldn't stomach dessert as the portions are very healthy. Would definitely recommend!

It must be thirty years since I was last here. Pub a bit run down, not much atmosphere but the Sunday carvery was superb. The food service area was spotless, no food on the floor! Three meat choices, good variety of vegetables and hot. It was excellent.

Went with my sister for dinner for the 1st time food was good, reasonable portion for a reasonable price. Has a small play area which is why my sister had suggested it as we both have toddlers but that was abit lacking and in need of some tlc. Otherwise it was nice for a afternoon lunch

This was are first visit to this pub but it won't be our last the service and the food was excellent and great value. The beer was also very good 👍

We rang to see if they did takeaway Sunday dinners, which they did. What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL dinner, they put each dinner in a large tin & gave us two regular cartons both full of gravy. This is the tastiest dinner I’ve had in a long time. They’re not shy either, 3 different meats, roast potatoes, mash potatoes, sprouts, carrot and swede mash, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, stuffing balls & Yorkshire puddings. I’m a big eater but definitely couldn’t finish it all I kept what I didn’t eat and warmed it up later, far too nice to be thrown away. The photo I’ve added doesn’t do it justice. There was loads more underneath.

Actually, I'm very impressed. I thought it would be frozen, heated, pub food, but it was all delicious!. Bar staff were very friendly and the food, which h accomadted us all was delicious. We will be back.

Visited for a meal with friends. Tried to phone to book but nobody answered the phone. We went there on the off chance and they found us a table. 2 Ordered Steak pie, veg and chips. Pie was excellent, veg ok, chips had an oily aftertaste, they left them. 2 Ordered carvery, generous portions of turkey, gammon and beef. Veg ok, turkey a bit dry, the ham and beef was delicious. About 7pm they turned the music vol up so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves talk. No body came back to ask us whether we'd like dessert, Shame because waitress was very polite and efficient taking our initial order. This pub was rated in top 3 for carvery in Halifax. Does it deserve the high rating? No. 3 star at best, carvery meat and pie good, price reasonable, the rest including service a bit poor. You get what you pay for. However the beer/drinks were good.

Went for the carvery and the food is so good! Way cheaper than toby carvery and the food is really tasty and plenty of choice , alot cheaper and the staff are really friendly. Deffo coming again !

Edited today 7.9.23: visited today for dinner with my friend. Becky was really lovely, friendly and welcoming. I had the Halloumi Sizzler special and it was gorgeous. The Pub is really nice, the drink quality was very good, and the bar/food service was very good/excellent. The food itself for me was fantastic Tandoori Chicken Skewers were cooked really well, the taste and presentation of my meal was fantastic the taste of the sprinkled paprika on the fries were excellent, salad excellent, yoghurt sauce excellent. only two minor niggles of this dish Sala Sauce I personally thought was not nice (usually my fav) put to one side as was spoiling the dish, the thickness of the naan too much, 2 small naans, or one thinner one preferred, but the Naan served was lovelly. The dish was excellent value for money.... I just want to point out that the two minor niggles are minor issues, one of the best pub meals I have ever had in a long time of this type. I would still give an overall rating of 4.8 out of 5.... I have still voted 5 stars in my review as next time I come I do hope the polite feedback of this dish is taken on board and again would reorder the same dish as everyone on our table commented on my dish and how fabulously it looked.... You cannot get a better compliment than everyone asking to try and saying it tasted lovely. THANK YOU TO VENUE AND ALL THE STAFF, THIS IS A GENUINE PAYING CUSTOMER (WELL MY PARTNER PAID), AND I WILL BE BACK AGAIN. I went to deliver food but the staff and public were really nice my friend went to eat there she said the food was delicious and spacious

Queued up for 5 mins at bar as we booked a table for 4.30pm I asked a young waitress with long brown hair looked about 17/18 to say we booked table for 4.30pm her reply was DONT ASK ME ASK SOMEBODY AT THE BAR!! She was very rude! We all had a carvery and the carvery was very poor! Stuffing balls really hard the carrots was dry! Only got 1 slice of beef the mash was ok and the food was hot! I don’t think we will be returning just the way I was spoken to and wasn’t very inviting! I have been coming here for 15 years and this probably the worst experience to this day.

This is the second time I have had the worst vegetarian chillie who on earth tips ground chillie powered over boilerd rice the who meal was very poor standard I advise do not have a chillie the chief needs help with vegetarian foods

Been here a few times now, first was a Sunday carvery which was pretty good, love the atmosphere, recently friendly family pub with regulars, chilled environment, last meal I had here was the ivy stacker burger and onion rings, easily the best burger I've had in years

One of the worst meals I've ever attempted to consume. It tasted like cheap microwaved takeaway food. I'll never let my mouth go through that again!

Love this place, been coming here with family for over 30 years and can't wait for 30 more. Great food and incredible staff.

We popped in just before they finished serving food as we had to find alternative dining arrangements due to unforeseen circumstances. They were very friendly and accommodating as usual. I have used the Ivy House on and off for years. The food they do in unfussy pub grub, bit they do it extremely well. Their home cooked chips are amazing and their steak pie is outstanding, as is their Sunday carvery. On this occasion we all had burgers which were lovely. They don't try and reinvent the wheel here, just good, honest food at reasonable prices and also they give good portions. It is definitely one of my go to pubs for a meal. Always recommended.

First time visited for a meal. Was excellent, food hot, service brilliant. Definitely visit again.

Food was delicious, service a bit slow. But all in all enjoyed the meal. The only draw back was it was cold we had to sit with coats on.

My friend and l went here this evening for a meal ,he had the steak pie which he said was very nice, l had the beer battered haddock and chips which was not very nice ,the fish inside the batter was nice the batter was a soggy mess not cooked right at all , two waitresses asked if all ok l said terrible batter had to leave it , they both said oh sorry , that’s it ! I do think an apology from the chef or something knocked off the bill would have been appropriate but no , oh well won’t be returning.

Coming back to my hometown and old haunt from many years ago this weekend was a treat! Just wonderful friendly atmosphere, food was out of this world. Private party was on with pork pies and drip bread and was invited to take what we wanted! Proper Yorkshire hospitality!! We will be back!

Friendly atmosphere, background music pleasant, cosy, warm, welcoming, only gripe is outside benches are very uncomfortable with only two slates to sit on, but all in all its a pub I would return to,

1st time for a meal on my birthday. Didn't have to wait for table booking. Food was lovely staff friendly and prices were about right for the meals ordered

I don't normally give reviews on pub meals but I visited The Ivy House on Saturday 26th June 2021 it is a lovely place and with a lovely garden, I had the steak pie chips and veg, the steak was shredder meat and quite try the whole meal was not very nice and the waitress took it and asked if she could tell the chef I said absolutely I was never approached again until we were going which was to.pay the bill, i paid £9.95 for a meal i never had which I think is despicable I am a pensioner that went home hungry and out of pocket.

The Ivy House is a lovely pub. Nice inside, a big beer garden which is really pleasant to sit in. The staff is very friendly and look after you. We had pizza and it was delicious, freshly made, generous toppings and lovely base, tasting all home made. Will definitely visit and eat there again. Strongly recommend.

They have a great safety policy in place for Covid, our service and food was 1st class, we both had the steak pie chips and vegetables, and they had an offer on of buy one get one half price "fantastic"we will definitely be back.

Lovely pub great decor and outdoor garden area with seats. Nice compact car park and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Looks to have lots of different things going on during the week including quiz night and service new year day night was excellent.

Visited Bank Holiday Tuesday after a day out. Despite living in Halifax, neither of us had visited the Ivy House before - something to be rectified immediately, as the food was grand and the service was lovely. I should think the girls had probably been working flat out all day due to the holiday period and the good weather, but we were served speedily and very pleasantly. Nice one, ladies! I had terrific sea bass from the specials board, beautifully cooked. Really superb. Partner had scampi. Both meals were hot, well cooked and partner's chips were fab. The whole lot went down a treat, as did the excellent and decently-priced drinks. Having had a day out in the Dales (expensive places there!), this was very refreshing. Well done all round and we shall certainly be back. Cosy, comfy, nice clientele, good staff, what more can I say? Thank you Ivy House.

Lovely little pub. The staff are friendly. The food is beautiful! The beer garden is really nice with a little play area for the kids. It's all enclosed so very safe for them to go off and play.

12 of us dined for Sunday carvery must having 2 courses. 3 meats available all tender and tasty, 3 types of potato and plenty of veg choice, homemade yorkies and lovely gravy. Choice of 4 starters and 5 puds when we ate. All enjoyed the meal and all 4 children dining in our group cleared carvery plates and pudding bowl. Only small complaint is the pub got too hot ...perhaps a window or two slightly open would help ! But food wonderful £9.95 for 2 courses. 13 April 2019 .... 40th party. A great night was had by all. Buffet was brilliant, great value Inc ... Sandwiches, bharjis, pasta, saus rolls, pork pie, gateau, Choc eclairs and more ... Also tea and coffee £5 p.h. Thank you.
