The Mill Venue in Calderdale

We visited to watch an Amateur Wrestling League who were performing in the function room beyond the bar! The venue is a cool converted mill and is deceptively hidden at first glance (until you realise where the entrance is on your first visit) They serve Bumbu, which is one of the best alcohols and seldom found outside of Weatherspoons so 10/10 for that alone!

Awesome place, and one of the best venues in Tod. Great atmosphere, very nicely done, and just a good place to frequent.

Do make sure you sign in any car used to travel to venue. They have a private parking company who charge fir the slightest time.

Definitely for those that want more of a nightclub vibe — with one entrance/exit that make it both hard to get into, and out of, up or down stairs — but this alcohol free Guinness was extremely well-priced at £2.60

I get child friendly but children running around all over the place and babies crying? It feels more like a nursery

Good beer great place to have a drink

We visited on a Sunday afternoon. First of all the menus need checking, they’ve got different things on them. Which was pretty confusing. Anyway. The food order was taken by a young male who also brought out the food. The tables have no numbers. To me, there’s an easy fix to this. Give each person a number on a card when ordering. Then you know which food is for each table. Alternatively, number your tables. When food came to our table, it wasn’t anything we’d ordered. When i told the young waiter this wasn’t ours he replied ‘for f*cks sake’ and walked off. Wandering around to other tables with food. From our order of two burgers and two loaded fries, we ended up with sharing half a burger each. The people we were eating with had already finished their meals at this point. Then about 25 minutes later some chips arrived. We were told ‘these are ready so you might aswell have them’. I spoke to the lady behind the bar who couldn’t help and basically we ended up getting our money back. Which I’m very grateful for. But the service is shocking and unorganised. Now. I would like to say, the half of burger we had was delicious. The meat was lovely. Cooked perfectly. Our friends had chicken burgers which looked lovely too. The food is great. When you actually get it. This place needs someone out front to actually know what’s going on, with food like that you’d be getting return customers. Whereas I doubt we would come back. Which is a shame. The chef obviously knows what he’s doing, but definite organisation is needed! It would only take a few tweaks to get it right! But definitely needs a system for table numbers and orders.

Went for their set Christmas dinner menu, which started off really well with the baked camembert starter and a nicely laid out festive table. Unfortunately the quality of the food seems to be a lottery depending on what you order from the set menu. The burger looked and tasted fantastic (according to another in my group), however the turkey dinner was sadly a disappointment with soggy brussels that may well have been boiling since last Christmas, soggy stuffing, limp bland carrots and not a whisper of cranberry sauce or even a Yorkshire pudding (in a West Yorkshire town no less!). Good veg holds up a roast dinner, but in this case there wasn't much of it and perhaps that was a mercy considering how it was cooked... The 3 course set menu, plus a xmas cracker and mince pie, was admittedly priced at only £20, but nevertheless any chef worth his salt wouldn't let such a staple dinner leave the kitchen in that state and think "Job well done". I'd have happily paid a bit more if it meant better quality all round, either that or take it off the menu altogether and replace with something more inventive as they did with the Christmas burger. We all enjoyed the sweet, crispy, gooey cinammon apple dough balls and custard dessert! This was my first visit to this local venue, and it's a shame first impressions didn't quite live up to all the good things I've heard as it means I'll think twice before visiting again. Hopefully it's just an anomaly, and if I do go again I'll have more of the food they're actually good at.

Went for a 70th birthday party. Nice location and atmosphere. Decent collection of beers and cider. Worth a visit.

Had our wedding party here and everything was fantastic. Laura and her team went above and beyond the call to make the whole night a success. All our guests loved the venue, it has such a great vibe. They made a great day even better. A brilliant place.

Good atmosphere with sensibly priced lager and wine. They even have Estrella! Plus the option for a cracking burger meal from the kitchen. Only mark down is very noisy when busy.

Recommended by a friend, so we thought it could be worth a try. However, I was disappointed by the limited choices on the menu. I chose the chicken gyros as hopefully the healthiest option ("grilled" chicken, tomato & red onion), but it was poor quality meat (thighs) and dripping grease. Also the flavouring of the herbs overpowered the dish. Relatively inexpensive, but did not live up to the menu expectations.

Fantastic burgers and great service. Really enjoyed our meal here. Lovely looking building and decor. Will definitely be going back.
