5:30pm weekday sitting for 4 people - very easy to book online. Minor niggles: It would be nice if there could be some kind of division between smoking/non smoking tables as it's not great to eat if someone is smoking at table next to you. Only one heater working so take a blanket with you!Positives far outweigh the negatives though. Staff were attentive, friendly & clearly following all the Covid restrictions. Between us we had: chicken burgers, onion rings, chips, veg pie & mash, nachos & garlic bread. We booked and paid individually via the app & it was delivered swiftly and everything was delicious. A nice local pub with good food at reasonable prices.

I have been going to the William Bourne since the restrictions were lifted earlier in the year, mainly sitting in the pub garden. The lady who runs the pub is very hot on you using the hand sanitiser on the way in, filling in the track and trace and following the one way system. This is the only pub locally where I feel the rules are taken seriously. The service is quick, the staff are really friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. Not eaten in the restaurant but we have ordered food such as nachos, chicken wings etc to eat outside and they have always been really good. Not been to the pub since the further restrictions have come into place but I would suspect they are being adhered.Nice local and would recommend.

We visited on a week day afternoon, the pub wasn't too busy and we got a nice seat outside. Great social distancing measures in place, from when we arrived the staff member explained everything and we were able to choose where to sit, though all the tables outside were very well set out and not close to others at all, the afternoon got busier as time went on but this still wasn't an issue in terms of seating/social distancing. The experience was effortless as we could order drinks and food from our phones without the hassle of even having to visit the bar and the service was friendly and fast. Food was absolutely lovely, we will return.

We recently enjoyed our first drinks and meal out post lockdown at the William Bourne. The service and cleanliness was very good and everything was explained from the outset. The app and table service was faultless. The food was great and the tables were well spaced out. We were in the garden. One very small negative feedback the chip portion size could be larger lol

We were passing through Chessington and lighted on the William Bourne as a good place for lunch. While my lasagna with salad was OK, my wife found her steak tough and rather small, though she did get a generous serving of chips and peas. We sat at a convenient table that happened to have a screen showing a Scottish football match. Two other screens showing the same match on Sky Sports seemed to dominate the dining area. That was pretty pointless in an almost empty restaurant in Surrey, but other sport on TV must attract customers. The regular customers at the bar seemed pretty rowdy.

Staying in the area we were looking for somewhere for dinner, booked over the phone arrived shown to table no probs. Menu is standard pub grub nicely presented and tasty not too bad a wait, drinks were good value. Service was a bit haphazard but it was quiz night so think they were gearing up more for that all in all a cheap night out. I would recommend.

This is my local. I have a pint here most days and a meal every week or two. After a recent refurb it is a lot smarter than it used to be. It's also ridiculously cheap. A pint of Doom Bar is £2.75. Most places in Surrey charge £4 plus. The extensive food menu is also very cheap but of good quality for the money. For example the excellent cod and chips is £7.99. I always upgrade to the spiral fries for 50p, much tastier! This Is actually nicer fish and chips than I have had in other Surrey pubs for £12-13. On a Friday it is even better value around nine quid for fish and chips and pint. Another meal I have frequently is the all day breakfast. Naughty but nice.Other dishes include sausages, scampi, burgers, pies, steaks etc. Never had a meal here that wasn't good. It just goes to show that even in Surrey you don't need to pay a fortune for good grub.

Came for some food with a group of friends (6 of us) and I can honestly say this is THE worst service I’ve ever had from a pub. I ordered the nachos + pulled chicken and chorizo. However I asked for it without guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños, and paid for extra cheese. What came out was a plate of crisps, with a tiny bit of pulled chicken. So I sent it back and asked for cheese, and aside from a tiny piece on top, there was still none. I sent it back a second time with the waitress who as sweet as she was, didn’t have much initiative, customer service or brains. She came back after the chef had said no because the cheese is portioned. After reminding her that I asked for it without a lot of toppings so it should have balanced out the cost, she came back again to say the chef had said no. So I gave up and took the dry nachos. Then... another member of our party had ordered a side of chips with their dinner. We reminded the waitress we were waiting for them, and after she returned she told us the chef said they had already come out. They had not. So we asked to speak to the chef.... what we were greeted with was an unwashed looking, grumpy human. I can see why she’s kept in the back...After arguing with us that we had the chips, and us pointing out there was a camera right above us, if she was in any doubt she could check that... she stormed off and said ‘I will’ as she retuned to the kitchen. The staff are miserable as anything, certainly not service with a smile. I have been to the William Bourne so many times, however it seems that despite the lovely upgrade to the pub, it seems that the staff have had a serious downgrade. What a shame. Please management of the William Bourne, teach your staff even an OUNCE of customer service and I’m sure your business would thrive much more.

This was our first visit since the revamp and the changes have made a great difference. The pub was very busy and we had to wait to grab a table once vacated as there is not a booking system. All orders are taken at the bar and paid for. The food once it arrived was very good apart from the steak on my mixed grill which whilst cooked as requested was tough and sinewy. Prices were good.Toilets were clean. Service was generally god but we were offered lemon slices for fish from the waitresses hand, that was a first. Outside area had lots of tables and chairs, heaters and a massive tv. All in all a good effort.

The male staff were rude not even speaking when taken out order we felt we were putting them out. Helen was great always doing her best, but unfortualy the staff who was working with her let her down, she will make a great landlord if choosing her own staff. The new landlord was no where to be seen AGAIN since being taking over by her I think the pub has gone down hillvwe had to wait over an hour after ordering a meal which is not acceptable. Will not recommend this pub and it's a shame as it was such a lovely friendly pub before being taken over by this new landlord thank God Helen and s still there at least there's someone who smiles.

As pubs in the area are closing left, right and centre it is hard to find one that isn't the template modern gastro-pub.This is definitely more of a drinkers pub than an eaters pub. The food is pretty average but is considerably cheaper than anywhere else around, particularly as they have different deals on every day.I have recently been popping in for a couple of pints after a cycle ride with friends or, more recently, after a game of golf. Plenty of outside seating for a relatively small pub. Good choice of bitters and nice to see them served in a jug. I don't mind a grumpy landlord but he does crack a smile once in a while! I like the family feel behind the bar and it definitely has personality - whether it is to your taste or not.I would be unlikely to bring my kids here or come specifically for a meal but as somewhere to stop by for a casual pint or three, I can't fault it.

But recently a work colleague said we should give it a go .... so we took the plunge for lunch one Sunday.Yep ..... so glad we did.Good atmosphere all round, and although the Euro football was on, you could still hear the background music in the dining room.My husband chose the homemade pie, which he said was simply delicious and I had the healthy option steak and mushroom salad; purely because I need to ☺The beer garden is well kept and ideal for families who like to socialise, and has plenty of good quality seating. We're going to give the quiz night a go, as this seems a nice friendly pub with customers of a similar age group to ourselves. And finally there's something we consider to be very important ...... an acknowledgement from the landlord as we left. Not many places do that these days.

Went here with my partner and 8 y/o daughter to have a meal and watch the England game. I rang beforehand to ask if kids were welcome and was told yes, so it was something of a disappointment to learn when we arrived that kids weren't allowed after 9pm so we had to go elsewhere to see the match. Wolfed down our (reasonable) food in a hurry and left just as a large and rowdy bus load of drunken blokes arrived to watch the game. Food was cheap and decent so it would be nice for lunch, but not really somewhere to take the family in the evening. I felt it was a traditional pub which really didn't want to open up to families but probably needed to for financial reasons!

Food for thought maybe. Anyway, try it and u might be impressed :)

I live locally and used the go here often to eat, always made to feel welcome .. Then suddenly they changed and we were made to feel unwelcome .I'm not sure if it was following me complaining about a bit of steak that tasted off, they changed it and all was good a few weeks later my partner had a similar experience and when asked he said that it didn't taste right and a new steak was brought and he was told its from the same packet. For me it's local but most of the staff lack customer care aside a few that have excellent skills . I don't like the click of the pub and do find some of the staff border line aggressive in their tone. Generally the food is good and it would be unfair to say otherwise. The food and service has improved greatly, and as a result the place is now really busy in the restaurant and we might even have to book! Prices are creeping up however, although happy to pay them for the improved experience. keep up the good work. for value for money, its a 5 from me..

This is a really old pub, but it has been refurbished a couple of times. Well decorated, clean and the managers are welcoming and friendly. Very nicely set out, with the food a very reasonable prices, well cooked and served!

My husband and I popped into the WB pub with a 4 month old baby on a Sunday afternoon. The pub wasn't too busy and there were plenty of free tables. Once we decided what we wanted to eat my husband went up to the bar to order. He was told it would be a 45min wait for food and said that was fine as we were not in a rush. She then told him she wouldn't take his order now. When he asked the speak to the manager he was told it would be over an hour wait for food and we might as well just leave. When my husband explained that we had the baby with us and we really don't mind just sitting and waiting and having a drink. The manager then said that it is not his problem and he wouldn't serve us food. We were disgusted by the way 2 staff members and the manager/landlord treated us. We might not be regulars but we had just moved to the area. This is not a friendly pub! Do not visit!!!

Me and my friend meet up on a regular basis, one a month, we always go the William Bourne pub, it is a friendly warm pub, we are always made to feel welcome, we have tried other pubs but always go back to the William Bourne as the food is really lovely, you don't have to wait too long and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The price of the food is very reasonable and the puddings are great. I would definately recommend this pub, it is oneto visit.

Disgusting pub and disgusting landlord!! The pub states children have to be out by 9pm it was half 7 in the summer holidays when the idiot Irish landlord made me and my friend and our two children leave when asked why he shouted at us in front if our children which upset them, I told him to not raise his voice and he said your barred..... Can't say I'm bothered as I wouldn't wish to go in there again the food was disgusting and he was lucky we paid for it as the order was all wrong and he said it would be another hour if we wanted the correct food! Such a shame as this used to be a decent local , I've spoken to many locals who dislike the idiot who runs the place time for a new landlord???!!!!!!!!

This is a lovely little pub for lunch or dinner. A great menu. I would recommend the Thai green curry. Prices are average, but they do very good deals. The staff are friendly and i go to this pub nearly every week for a lunch time treat.

I sit on the fence will this pub. It is nice and clean and recently decorated. For the first visit I felt unsure of the atmosphere, but as time went on I felt more welcomed. The food is very reasonable priced. I have had better pub food, I feel the food is just short of the quality I would expect from a pub meal. It has a good pub entertainment pool table/ football/ quiz nights, garden etc.. Don't mean to be mean but the food is nearly there, I would pay a bit more if it meant better quality. I can see the effort that has been made which is great, Lovely pub just needs to up its game on the food.

After waiting for what seemed to be an eternity, our meals finally arrived or what were supposed to be meals - more like a microwave dinner slumped on a plate!! served with watermarked cutlery and flat beer. The bar staff looked clueless in their jobs and standing around playing with their till cards. The customers were all sour old men and coked up workmen. The toilets are small and smelt atrocious as we'll as drug parafinalia being dotted about such as empty wraps on the window sill. This is not a good establishment to take your family or friends to I for one will not be a returning customer!!! Although there was a great dogging experience in the car park and adjacent field I will be sure to return with my wife for another woodland adventure!

Tryed the William Bourne with the wife and friends for a meal and drinks. Haven't been there for a while after a bad experience with the food quality. Wow! What a turn round food (although the portions are smaller) was more than acceptable and served quickly. After we had eaten we moved round the front for a few drinks and had a good evening, I don't understand the bad comments about the Irish fella behind the bar as we had a laugh with making vodka and cokes just perfect!! He was polite and happy and served us promptly. I'm not a regular but I intend to be from now on.

Have now been to the pub several times over last year, after many years of not wanting to go there! The landlord has really improved the place. Wide menu and serves up good but value pub grub. I think we'll be continuing to be part-time regulars now :-)

We tried this pub out for lunch when passing. The old Irish man behind the bar didn't crack a smile the whole time we were there. We received looks like we just walked into the village of the damned when entering the pub and waited ages to be served over regulars ordering drinks. We were told that kids weren't allowed to stay for longer than a one hour time slot so after waiting 45 minutes for our food had to inhale it to be out in time. The food was also greasy and poorly presented on the plate with BBQ sauce fingerprints on the edges. The outside seating area is lovely but somewhat ruined by chavs cursing loud enough for our kids to hear. The food and drink is not the best value for money either, so to summarise I don't think we will be returning. There are far better establishments in the area.

Almost every weekend i go to the William Bourne with my dad as we are locals. The people in the pub e.g the waitress and the bar men are always very welcoming and kind. When we order food they are always very smiley and there is a good atmosphere in the pub. There are big TV's on each side inside the pub featuring the latest sports game. The food there is absolutely lovely and i would definitely recommend to other people of all ages. The garden outside is family friendly and very well kept.

Have to agree with the positive comments about the new owners. Really, for the price, this place is a gem. Its not a gastro pub and it does have to also appeal to the regular drinkers who probably keep the place going during the week, so the bar is quite old school. However there is a large restaurant area where you can sit in peace and the food is very good and does seem to keep getting better!Under the new owners it really has turned the corner and is becoming more and more popular, and rightly so! I just hope things stay busy there like they are now and the pub/new landlord stays in business because this pub is also very old, being the Bonesgate Inn for over 100 years before changing name recently to the William Bourne its part of local history and should play on that fact a bit more maybe.

i never write reviews on pubs but after reading some reviews i felt i had to, i have been coming to this pub for many years, not as a drinker just as a family with 3 children for evening meals or a sunday lunch, its gone a bit up and down over the years but at the moment with its current new owners it is at its best, its a local pub with a bar pool table somewhere to watch the football if required and a nice outside seating area but the best bit is the restaurant, its at the back of the pub so even if the pub is busy you sit seperatley to have your meal in peace, theres a really good pub grub menu with the usual steaks, chicken, fish & chips and sunday roast and a great dessert menu of sundaes, fudge cake, crumbles cheesecake etc and all are buy one get one free every day of the week, you take a seat and order at the bar and the staff bring your food to the table, the staff are friendly and the food is good quality, its always packed with families so they must be doing something right, we ate there on fathers day and they had to turn people away as the restaurant was so full, its not a posh restaurant but a decent pub with a decent pub menu and good quality food, they also do a kids menu and activity sheet with colouring pencils to keep the kids happy! go try it and enjoy!

Myself and my partner went to dinner this evening here and the second we stepped in here, we had all eyes on us and it was very uncomfortable, the old man serving didnf stop giving dirty looks and the older woman didnt look pleased either. It was the most uncomfortable feeling and ruined it from the start. We decided to continue thinking it was just us seeing things, so we sat down and chose what we wanted to eat, as I went up to order I was waiting behind two gentlemen which wasnt a problem. I then got to the bar and the older man serbing came over and asked what I wanted so I said ide like to order food and he just turned around went over to another guy saying "im just gonn serve this guy" and then got all friendly with him complerely blanking me. As he wentto get the mans drinks he said to the women walking past. "Go serve that guy" so she came over asked what I want took my order with a bad attitude and didn't even tell me how much it came too. Just took my card and put it in the machine, once we got our food it waa fairly quick but wasnt nice at all. They never came over to ask how our food was or if we would like anything else but was over with other people constantlh which I presume our "regulars". Even when we left we got up walked to the exit and the woman sore us leave and just said "oh are you finished". Erm well if you payed attention you would of known! Terrible terrible service!!! Would never go here again no wonder they had applications for jobs! I would never want to work with them. Good luck with your regulars!! Hope you close down and get new management and staff in. DO NOT GO HERE.

This is a busy pub with a small restaurant behind it. You are not welcomed at the door and have to go and order your food from the bar but once you order it there is “service with a smile” and the meals are served quickly. The food is served piping hot, generous portions and there are some excellent bargains here. Check it out! We had two main courses and a bottle of Hardys Mill Cellars Chardonnay for only £13.95. A huge portion of chicken wings served piping hot and deserts are buy one get one free!

Loud sports television coverage and bad karaoke sometimes feature here. Being where it is on the border of suburban London, and greener Surrey it is an odd mix of urban local and country pub. There is a "garden" of sorts, which overlooks the (somewhat shabby) car park and road. This is a "beer and grub" pub. Slightly better than cafe food (most of the time), but to a standard pub-chain menu, ordered at the bar. Food is delivered to the table, but that is as far as table service goes. Ok, for a convenient alternative to cooking. Quality varies, but the target market is clearly not very sophisticated. Some items appear to be locally prepared in the kitchen, but some also appear to be bought in ready made in bulk. Prices when the place first opened were exceptionally good value, but have gone up since. Portions are reasonably generous, but not so much as they once were and prices have gone up.

I went into the pub with a friend to have a couple of pints while carrying an empty coffee cup. Immediately the owner a rude Irish man began berating me saying I was goin to put him out of business to which I explained I was about to throw it away. He didn't care and began shouting at us infront of everyone. A horrible first impression and I won't be returning to this place. Worst pub I've ever been to, and I've been to some really terrible pubs.

Not an unpleasant pub, slightly uncompetitive compared to nearby venues. Can get a little rowdy at times - it would be helpful if the staff stepped in and diplomatically calmed things down a little. Free wireless Internet available via The Cloud.

Well priced and very large portions of food, especially the fish and chips. The service was OK, but not very friendly or welcoming, but enough to not be rude.Portions may be big, but the taste was a little bland, which could be fixed with seasoning and maybe some sauces.
