No cash, no custom. Absolutely no reason to not accept cash and cash saves local businesses a lot in transaction and bank fees for each purchase.

£20 for a halloumi burger? Completely empty on a sunny Friday night despite having a nice garden area because it’s a complete rip-off. Needs to go out of business really so a sensible owner can take over and offer the area a decent local pub.

Came here on a Tuesday where it was maybe 10% of the seating capacity, with about ten patrons, and I was told the kitchen is “extremely busy with wait times over a half hour”. Okay, if you can’t serve anyone when you’re practically empty it inspires no confidence and we will never be back. It’s a really poor look. Third time trying the place and had weird issues each time that you just don’t find elsewhere. There is better options in the area. The garden is a bit of a dive too.

Wanted to take my son for a burger. They cost £20 each and was told they would be pink in the middle. What came was overcooked and dry. Very disappointing, especially considering the staggering price. I was offered a free drink after I complained but I was driving so couldn’t accept it. I felt thoroughly ripped off.

Very disappointed. We ordered chicken skewers for £10 each and there was barely any chicken on it. Daughter's meal came 15mins after our meals. The cold cut board was £20 but came with no crackers or bread to eat it. Felt very overpriced considering the portions were small and lacking. Real shame as its one of our locals and the food used to be great. Staff are friendly and nice though.

I’m a bit astounded by this local pub… ordered a single gin & tonic and a pint of Amstel.. £16.30! The single gin and tonic was £9.60… now I lived in zone 2 of London for 20 years and frequently go to places such as The Ned and the prices are similar… when I asked the bar lady, who was very sweet, why it was so expensive her response was ‘because it’s a nice pub’… I mean, it’s ok… its not particularly that nice in comparison to other pubs in Surbiton and it’s definitely not £9.60 for a single gin and tonic nice. We tried to give this place another try but a prosecco (small bottle) and a pint of Amstel came to just under £20 Which is on average about about £6.50 more than places I've been to in central London! Went in tonight for a quick beer with a friend. Ordered chips and halloumi and chips and grated Parmesan came out? oh well not a massive problem. When I went to get vinegar I was greeted by a snarling look from the landlord and he muttered something under his breath. We asked him to repeat but he just shook his head. Very rude and unwelcoming pub and a very cold atmosphere, shame as I’m local. No wonder the pub is empty.

It's a nice pub, but it's in the wrong place, it thinks it's in the heart of yuppy land in London, and even then the prices don't stack up. Looking at the menu, food is good honest basic food but London prices which makes it significantly over priced for it's location. Same can be said for the drink prices, one beer and a very tiny bottle of coke is £13.50 Even in Lester square in London a beer and a bottle of pop would not go through the £10 mark. Which explains why the place is empty even mid evening on a Saturday night. Others at the next table where doing what we were, popping in for a beer before walking up the road to the restaurant which are plentiful nearby. Bottom line, it's a place to try for a single beer but you won't go back unless you have deep pockets, can't imagine they get much repeat custom. Walk five minutes further to the prince of Wales, always busy, nice vibe and reasonable prices. Sorry Royal Oak, but you need to revisit your pricing structure.

Hmm - it was quiet at 2pm on a Sunday, but we'd booked, so best to carry on. Inside was pleasant, and service was friendly and attentive. The food prices were a little 'toppy', the drinks prices were mixed - very reasonable for the decent Wimbledon Copper Leaf ale and the tap cider, a little 'toppy' for the tap ale. We all enjoyed our food, which was plentiful. When we requested water in addition to our drinks, a jug of tapwater was cheerfully produced. Will we revisit? - yes, probably. Just one small point - with the sun having put in a special guest appearance, a shade at the window would have made life a little more comfortable.

Situated roughly halfway down Ewell Road, not too far off Tolworth Roundabout, overseeing a consistently busy, yellow hatched intersection, this detached grey building with green bricked exterior sticks out among the diverse range of regionally specific convenience stores. The exterior evokes a particular, arguably unfair, "rough" pub stereotype. Expected stunned silence and outsider status on arrival, instead met with spacious seating, table service and extensive food and drink options. Quite the juxtaposition. Grand Funk Railroad plays out on the speakers, I opt for a Guinness (excellent pour), take a seat next to the meat fridge, and peruse the menu - steaks, burgers, fish, picky bits - it's a gastro pub menu but looks fancier. A £99 steak sticks out to me, "Has anyone ever finished this?" I ask. The server says "It's meant for 4 people". I've been watching too many BeardMeatsFood videos. My Richard Holmes history books do extend to Tolworth, and The Royal Oak is rich in history. Dating back to 1861, it had Tolworth Fountain opposite (1903-1936) before being demolished for road widening. In 1931, then Landlady Florence Wedderburn was convicted for selling diluted whisky, a hefty £10 fine was issued. Moving swiftly to the 1990s, and the pub was run by Leila Williams, Miss Great Britain in 1957, and a Blue Peter Presenter from 1958-1962 no less, and her husband was Fred Mudd, former singer of The Mudlarks. The inferior whisky was only served to those not allowed in the saloon bar, and while the booze quality improved, the divide remained until 1984 when it was then made a single bar. Sold to Scottish & Newcastle in 1998, it's unclear who owns it now, but the current management look to have been there for 6-8 years judging by the socials. I sent this pub on to a few people, and it seems like I'm the last to discover it. A good reminder to keep an open mind and the joys of just "dipping" into a pub for one. Definitely a case of not judging a book by its cover, but beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder after all.

awfully unwelcoming. Gone are the days when you can go in on your own, grab a quick pint at the bar, sit at the bar or stand and be out quickly. I went in yesterday evening for a quick pint; I went up to the bar, was ignored by the 3 staff there, had to ask how i get a pint; was told that it's table service so have to go through the ridiculous charade of finding a table (a table for 4 that i had on my own), waiting for the waiter, ordering a pint, waiting for the pint, then waiting for the waiter again to pay for the pint once I'd finished! I found the whole experience unwelcoming, demoralising and quite inefficient. Seems like the place is stuck in the pandemic. I won't be going back in a hurry
