The BBQ pulled beef was dry, only slightly warm, and the BBQ part waa sauce spread onto the flatbread. The roast dinner looked like a school dinner. Over priced and very disappointing.

We saw they were offering 50% off mains throughout August and it drew us in. I’m so glad we went. Staff care about your experience and the food was amazing. And I mean AMAZING. They have all the pub classics: pie, mixed grill, T-bone steaks, burgers… so much to choose from and all HOMEMADE! They have a big beer garden on the back and inside it’s a really nice relaxed pub vibe. Even full price great value. They were charging £14 for pie & chips with super generous portions. We will absolutely be back! So glad we discovered this place!

Called in for lunch not been in this area for years, plesantly surprised at changes to bar and dining area, looked really nice. The wife had scampy, l had roast of the day, as big as a sunday lunch with an amazing amount of beef on the plate, fubulous for a tenner each. The waitress was very nice, left us to chat and appeared olny when needed, very friendly polite and proffessional , lovely easy afternoon, will be back ( as Arnie says) Great stuff!!

Restaurant was busy, young waitress lovely but food took a while which was fine as I was in no rush. When my sizzling chicken fajitas arrived I had 2 wraps, dry pots of guacamole, salsa, cheese & sour cream ,the chicken had no color and whole dish had zero seasoning but chef had doused in water!! Maybe to help them look sizzling on arrival? I really couldn't be arsed after a long day but they were inedible so after 2 bites I let the waitress know. At this point I wanted to go back to my room so when the older lady said I can give you a discount I just agreed as work cover my bills when away and I wasn't in the mood to argue. I have a hospitality background and cook in a pub part time and id never dream of charging a customer for food they haven't eaten and complained about. And the line its our best seller doesn't give me much hope for the rest of the menu, thank god I didn't book breakfast! Shame as hotel great value for money.

I ate here twice when staying in the hotel, for dinner and for breakfast. Breakfast is included for hotel guests but can also be enjoyed by non-guests for a fee. The service was really friendly. The food was good, nothing fancy but well made and tasty and a sensible portion size. The menu had a good range of options including vegan and allergy conscious dishes. The breakfast was very well cooked and nice which isn't always a given for a full English - it is freshly made to order rather than buffet style. The service was a bit slow but like all hospitality venues at present they are under unusual pressure and in that context I thought it was completely reasonable. People just need to be a bit more patient at present when dining out.

Firstly the place is dirty. Half dead hanging baskets and a mucky half empty fish pond welcomes you at reception. Behind the bar and the till area was really dirty. Toilets weren't too clever either with paper all over the floor. The food was not too bad for two courses £11.95, but the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant. Firstly the table was not set, then we got told off for sitting there. The service took so long I forgot what I had ordered! Then when I asked the waitress to look at the desert menu, she said you have to order that at the bar. The lady on the next table said she didn't have to. I said to the waitress I haven't seen a menu and she said they are at the bar. Went to the bar to order and the tills don't work for cards and everyone wants to pay with card! I wait ten mins and then sit down. About ten mins later I see a waiter and shout to him I want to order our deserts, been waiting an hour. He eventually takes the order and we wait again. We order two coffees to come with desert and these arrive after we have eaten them. The waiting staff keep wandering around with deserts in there hands shouting who has ordered these. They have not got a clue! Finally we go to pay and a bill that should be £65 is £81, they have added £16 of someone else's tab onto our bill. Then to top it off again the tills don't work so we have to walk to the hotel reception to pay. All in all it took three hours to eat one three course meal. Need to get it sorted pronto!!!

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement...we called here on our way home as we have done so many times before, hoping for a late lunch, early tea, as we walked in I noticed the lounge bar had been newly renovated, it does look really nice. As we approached the bar we noticed a sign that said "food served all day", oo nothing changed there I thought so we would be ok, on further inspection the notice said food from 12-2:30 then 5:30 till 8 or 9, can't quite remember, which straight away confused me, that's not all day!, Never mind I thought it was 4:25, the food is usually so good I'll wait......I ordered a drink, then I noticed the new menu, well if that's what you can call it, gone was the great menu choices of usual, gone was the dining club choices and smaller bites for the over 55s, gone was the specials of the day, instead replaced by a couple of sheets on an, all be it nicely presented, clipboard, I scanned for the vegetarian choice.....I found it...cheese and tomato pasta.... surely I was wrong, I read it again.....nope just the one bland choice, I asked the bar lady, yes that's the only choice but I'm sure we could cook you something else if you can think of something, now nothing against her, I'm sure she was trying to help but as a vegetarian I like to have a choice on the menu, not have to design my own meal, which would be difficult to do not knowing what foods are available....I wasn't happy. We also noticed that there was a difference in the prices too, if you eat before 2:30 the food is cheaper than if you eat after 5:30, so not only did we only have the choice of one meal, we would have to pay extra, for the EXACT same meal because it was later in the day!The lounge bar used to be the perfect place for us to go, fab home cooked food, great choices, something for everyone, my mum loved to come and have the witshire ham, egg and chips and the veggie choice was always fabulous, even fish eaters had a great choice of at least two or three types, failing that you could get delicious jacket potatoes, well no more!Deeply disappointed..... perhaps they are going more for the gastro pub image....well I will not be back, neither will my family, it was our regular place for family meals and birthdays, but you've lost our custom and I imagine others too!

We booked a table for my mums 70th birthday and pre ordered our food. The staff were very helpful. We asked if we could take some family photos before our meal and we were given the use of the area where our table was set. We arrived early (for the pictures) and after being asked to sit for our meal at 7pm our starter quickly arrived, which was nice. Unfortunately, our main course didn't arrive until 9pm! We had to ask several times and when it did turn up, it was evident that the dishes had been ready and waiting for a long time and re-heated several times as the meat was dry and the Yorkshire puddings were very rubbery. The veg was scarce apart from potatoes where there was an abundance. We did have an apology and the cost of the wine taken off the bill but the experience pretty much took the shine off the evening.

We visited friends in Sheffield and my mate took us here for a meal on Saturday night as a treat. The bad thing about this place was that there was no staff about when we arrived at 6.45pm for a 7pm booking. We had to go to the hotel reception to ask them for a member of staff to serve us (as there was no-one in the bar to the restaurant either). We were told that Charlotte (I think that was her name - but could be mistaken) would come to see to us. After too long a wait a lady appeared and brought us menus saying only the a la Carte menu was available. My friend had specifically asked when he booked if the Wine and Dine Menu was available and was told it was. So we decided to stay and went to the bar to get a drink - no-one there - eventually ( I shall call her Charlotte) appeared and we ordered drinks - I took our wive's drinks to our table when they were ready leaving my mate to bring ours when poured - he returned to our table empty handed saying that she had to change the barrel for his beer and sat down. Charlotte then brought his beer to the table and asked us what we wanted to order - I then said that I would like my orange squash that we had ordered first - Charlotte then said in a surly manner - its on the bar (is it me - or aren't staff there to serve you?? - she was bringing my friend's beer to the table anyway - why didn't she bring my orange squash?). Any way - we ordered and later a lovely lady (not Charlotte) came to tell us our table was ready and proceeded to put our wives' drinks on a tray and took them to our table - how nice was that - at last - some good service. The meal and service in the restaurant was excellent and I asked the waitress to thank the Chef for our superb food as it was exceptionally good and tasty. At the end of the very nice meal - Charlotte got my friend the bill and tried to overcharge him but he pointed out her error and the bill was reduced accordingly. Despite the poor reception we received etc. we would all still go to this place again as the food is excellent and the Restaurant staff superb. However I do think that Miss Surly knickers needs training to know how to deal with customers and give them good service - like her colleagues do in the Restaurant.

My Husband and I have eaten here a couple of time before but always in the main Restaurant, this is the first time we have eaten in the Wild Boar. We booked in advance as we didn't know how busy it was going to be. The Staff are very friendly and greet you on arrival, If you are going to be having a meal you can start a bar tab and just add whatever you eat and drink to that, The table that had been reserved for us was very small and in the corner and it made my Husband and I feel slightly cramped but a quick word to the gentleman behind the bar and we were invited to sit wherever we liked without and fuss, we chose somewhere that was a bit more roomy. For starter we both had the Beer battered mushrooms, these are heavenly you can really tell that they have been freshly cooked. For mains My Husband had the 6oz ground steak burger topped with Stilton with garlic truffle oil coated chips and I had the 6oz ground steak burger with Cheddar and chips (without the truffle oil) both on a Rustique bun, I have to admit the burger was a bit much for me bit what I did manage to eat was delicious, again well cooked and fresh. we also had beer battered onion rings, these were delicious but they are fairly greasy so pace yourself if you eat them. For dessert we both had the chocolate fudge sundae which was nice without being too sickly. We had 3 drinks each I had 3 J20s and my Husband had a half pint of Coke and two pints of Lemonade. The total bill came to £47.00 a very reasonable price for what we had. This is a lovely place to eat at and it does get very busy, the only downside I would say it the toilets are very well signposted. The staff are very helpful and try to accommodate you as much as they can, A family of 15 came and wanted a selection of sandwiches and even though they were very busy the staff still managed to give them what they wanted, a sterling effort. We shall be visiting again in the near future.

Have been coming to the Wildboar restaurant for years with family as it always had a terrific atmosphere and was inevitably full for Sunday lunch, requiring advanced booking.Arrived recently after booking to find the place deserted. Only another couple in addition to our large family table. On inspection the menu, whilst similar in content was significantly different in price, instead of three courses and coffee for less than £13 as was the norm we racked up over £20 a person for the same.Presume the world and his wife have got wind of this and voted with their feet. Plenty of competition nearby. Sad as they have a great venue and the staff were always excellent. In mitigation we had a very reasonable £5.50 over 55's lunch with good choice in the lounge bar a few weeks ago.Has an apparent re-pricing strategy in the restaurant killed the goose that laid the golden egg? It certainly has for us.

For our mains we had roast chicken and steak respectively and these were served with plenty of vegetables. We bothhad raspberry pavlova to finish followed by coffee. The veg were neither over or under cooked.I was expecting the wine to be "rough" but the 12% Italian Shiraz was perfectly palatable. The Sticky Toffee Pudding and Crème brûlée were also very good.Total for the meal - £28.25 for two, including a pint of guest beer (also good)!

My friend had booked a table in the bar side of the hotel but on arrival we were asked if we would like to be seated in the restaurant which had nice decor & was reasonably busy & included the offer of 2 for £20, I had seen some of the reviews, good & bad, but decided to see for my self, although there was the cost of any extras, the included bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio (restaurant prices) out weighed this & the food was good, hot & well presented, staff pleasant & if you caught there eye they were attentive, it may not have been the best dining experience ever but it was far from the worst, all in all we would go back.

As there was a few of us we had pre-ordered our food so we didn't have to long a wait. My main came out with mushrooms on when I requested it without. Once this was pointed out it was soon rectified. Would definately recommend to friends and family

After ringing the Sitwell Arms using their 0800 number which on their with no success I tried emailing them with the same result. I then called in at the hotel and booked a table. We arrived on the night and everything went smoothly, had a bit of a wait but I beleive the food was cooked to order. Which is very good when the deal is a two course meal for two with a bottle of wine all for £20. All in all we all had a really enjoyable night. I would say this is probably a place to visit for the deal Monday to Thursday. There is a local telephone number 01246 outside the venue but it dosen't seem on the site.

We was pleased to see the £20 wine + dine offer had come back on the menu as the last time they had it on the menu we was pleased with the meal ,but this time I was extremely disappointed as you had to pay extra for vegetables etc , I can't see why the offer is called a main meal and dessert when the vegetables are not included ,so to me it isn't a £20 offer anymore . Also the menu I had said the meal was mashed potato, braising steak, bacon and onions I was more than shocked when the meal arrived and I had got mashed potato and 2 tiny pieces of braising steak not much bigger than a oxo cube and their was no bacon or onion as stated on the menu . I complained to the manager who came and agreed their was no bacon or onion on my plate . Their was no problems in changing my meal , but you do expect to get what you have ordered of the menu.WONT BE GOING FOR THIS £20 OFFER AGAIN

We were initally excited to hear about the "2 wine and dine for £20" menu but were soon to discover the menu was scattered with extra / supplementary charges. Unless you go down the basic route of simple main and dessert you'll end up paying a bit more, the worst offender was charging for vegtables to go with the mains!Service was average and actually quite unhelpfull, offering no assistance for carrying our drinks etc from the bar to table which is tricky when you have a 9 month child in your arms, waitress just stood and watched. Also we were asked to choose our dessert ( premade cheescake, cake, pavlova or sponge) when we first ordered so the chefs could prepare it! I have never been asked this, even at quality establishments with comlpex deserts! Very poor.On the subject of the food I sadly paid £5 extra for what was a terrible, tough lamb shank, though the mash was good. I also expected much from the £1.50 extra pavlova only to recieve commercial / supermakret pre-made merrignue nests with some cream and fruit. To be fair my wife and her father did enjoy their slow brasied beef and jam spong pudding.

Chose this hotel as a midway point for a romantic meeting in the area. Had completed a form from the hotel website, rang a free phone number twice, only to be greeted by a recorded message and sent an email, all just to cover possible channels to book a table. No reciprocal correspondence or confirmation was forthcoming. I needent have worried as the table had been reserved, it would have been good to have received something at least, since we were both unfamiliar with the area, to demonstrate the establishment was still trading. The staff were very polite and accommodating and the roast dinners we chose were both good. A slightly odd side dish of ratatouille did seem an unusual accompliment to a traditional Sunday lunch. Surroundings and ambiance were excellent and in accord with the spirit of our meeting, thank-you.

Just want to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Sitwell. From the initial booking through to the day itself an excellent experience. The staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble Jackie wanted her fillet well done and it was no problem at all the chef accommodated even though it was advertised in the menu as medium rare. Well done to everyone and we will definitely see you again. Jackie Sands and David Waller. .

Tried the 2 for £20 menu last Tuesday. Paid £5 extra for steak, well worth it. Best meal out in a long time. Excellent service, nice atmosphere. Everything piping hot and freshly cooked chips were delicious. Wife had chicken with mashed potatoes and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bottle of house red wine was better than expected. Chocolate fudge cake to follow. You would be hard pressed to find anything that compare to this for the money.

To celebrate our ruby wedding we took some members of our family to the Sitwell. The building is quite impressive, stone fronted with a large outside seating, kids play area, though the main road is very close, and very noisy. Due to feeding our grand daughter,we didn't eat till 2 pm, we had booked, after checking in, we sat in the pleasant waiting area, and waited, and waited, till I went to remind them we were there! Somone came with menues and we ordered the meal and drinks. We were taken to our, very bare, table, average sums up the meal, very average, the waiters reply was always "no problem" which was nice, but a little boring. The staffe also decided to re arrange the furniture whilst we were eating! The meal was not expensive, just very ordinary.

I need to say first that this place is worth a try, it's just that our experience on this occasion wasn't as expected. We came here to celebrate my partner's late father's birthday as we had brought him here just before he died. We booked the table for 7.30pm but was advised a large party booking would be arriving then so could we come for 8, which wasn't a problem. We knew it was busy as we couldn't get parked. On arrival we were asked to sit in the bar and someone would bring us a menu; this was 7.50pm. We ordered drinks and waited. Other people came in after us and were given menus so by 8.15 we got the waitress's attention, who did apologise as a member of staff hadn't turned up so they were short staffed. We ordered off the 2 dine for £20 menu - 2 courses for 2 people for £20 inc a bottle of wine which is amazing value. We were shown to our table at 8.40pm and were told our starters would be 'rushed out' as we had been kept waiting ... I ordered the ham hock potato Rosti with poached egg and my partner ordered olives, which when it arrived came with bread and oil. My starter was gorgeous, although the potato had gone cold which was a shame. For the mains, my partner ordered cod which came with new potatoes and chorizo and I ordered chicken in a white wine sauce with onions, mushrooms and mashed potato. When mine arrived, it looked like chicken and mash with gravy and I double checked twice with the waitress as there were no mushrooms and I was expecting a white creamy sauce not gravy. However I was told it was white wine sauce and the mushrooms and onions were in it, I.e. Dissolved. Perhaps it was my fault but the dish wasn't what I was expecting given the description and the mash was very stodgy. My partners was nice with lots of chorizo, which he shared as it was too much but that's personal taste, but a lot of the potatoes on his were hard. For pudding my partner ordered cheese, crackers and chutney at a supplement and I had the hot cookie with ice cream. I had heard the waitress tell another couple the puddings would be 10 mins; we were just asked if we wanted a break between courses which to be honest we did anyway. The cookie was devine, as was the ice cream. When they brought the puddings we were informed that they had run out of chutney so had brought extra crackers with the cheese. The wine that accompanied the meal was lovely. I ordered coffee with the pudding and that was nice. The main problem was the slow service - by this time it was 10.30pm! And then they got our bill totally wrong and apparently the bread didn't come with the olives, it was a separate dish but as we hadn't actually ordered it they accepted this. There were other things that were said throughout the evening to us and other people that in my opinion wasn't great customer service, such as a lady swapped the new potatoes for chips with the cod and then was told when serving it that really they should charge her extra but wouldn't on this occasion. It had been the waitress's fault for not saying anything at the time of order they said and we just felt uncomfortable as everyone heard her and it would have been more appropriate to say it when they were paying their bill and in a much more friendly manner. The main disappointment for us was the slow service - we wish they hadn't taken our booking if they were too busy. My main wasn't what I expected or wanted so this put a dampener on it and the staff were obviously pushed which effected service, friendliness and professionalism. However the deal was so good and the starter and pudding so nice that we would give this another go. I have awarded this 3 stars as our experience on this occasion wasn't as we expected and places should be consistent. 2 years previously it was spot on. But I do think it is worth a try especially the 2 dine for £20 deal; we just get better and quicker service at our local wetherspoons and a nicer main course.

Went for Sunday lunch. The service was slow and clumsy (e.g. forgetting to bring cutlery with dessert). The food was quite nice but long on carbohydrates (lots of potato). The rosti was unlike any you get in Switzerland - more of a potato cake. Only real ale available was dark brown. Pleasant atmosphere, though, and not expensive.

We regularly eat at the Sitwell Arms but last night was a huge disappointment- the beer was cloudy, the pork chops stringy, the "spicy" tomato sauce tasted like condensed soup and the "roast" potatoes were boiled new potatoes briefly sauteed. And it took 40 minutes to arrive, even though there were only three other dining parties. We were so very disillusioned that we are unlikely to return.

The hotel restaurant feels a bit tired but I tried not to let that cloud my judgement.I had Wild Boar Terrine for starter, Laura had a Seafood Trio, both delicious! For main I had Beef Wellington which was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and Laura had sirloin steak and chips.Portion sizes were good and service excellent from a friendly waitress. The downside was that there was a wedding upstairs and the noise from the disco was very loud. The restaurant itself was dead for a Saturday night, maybe not enough people know about it? I would visit again!

My husband and I went for a meal on Thursday 21st August and enjoyed a lovely meal. We went for the 2 for £20 including a bottle of wine.We booked a table for 8.45 and arrived at 8.40 we were asked to take a seat and then called through at 9pm. The restaurant its self was very nice and we had a lovely table in the corner. We ordered an appetizer of garlic bread with olive oil with balsamic vinegar when it arrived it came without the olive oil or the vinegar. We told the waitress that the vinegar & olive oil was missing ,She then returned with the vinegar but no olive oil.She then went back to the kitchen again and came back and said that the chef had run out and had forgotten to tell them.We were not charged for this, but we could not believe how incompetent the chef was.The meal itself was lovely and good value for money. There was also a 60th wedding aniversary & we thought that this dominated the attention on the staff.

We decided to go here for a change to our usual restaurant. My husband has to follow a gluten free diet so it is difficult to find somewhere that a) knows what gluten free is; and b) gives you a choice other than steak or gammon. Not only was there a wide choice (my husband could have 5 out of 6 starters; and several main courses) the standard of food was excellent. I had a smoked haddock, asparagus and poached egg starter, my husband creamy garlic mushrooms with GF bread - usually most restaurants which claim to cater GF just mean you can have the item listed without part of the dish so are rarely properly catering gluten free. For main course I had a Beef Wellington to die for and my husband had a minted lamb burger with GF bread. Everything was perfectly cooked and served hot. I couldn't fault the service - attentive without being in your face and un-rushed without feeling neglected. The bonus was that there was an offer on so we had a complimentary bottle of house wine for free when ordering at least 2 courses (just fill in the form on their website and print voucher). We will definitely be returning.

I want to have a go at twice cooking wedges/chips in garlic oil because these were gorgeous! Husband had black pudding starter & I had a delicious haddock fishcake then both had porterhouse steak cooked to perfection. Even though we were full we managed to squeeze in a sweet each. Nice decor- modern yet retaining rustic coach house charm. Good service & good value for money. A little quiet to say it was a Friday night.

On Sunday we had a wonderful meal at the Sitwell Arms. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was of an excellent standard - all piping hot and well cooked. Everyone really enjoyed it. My husband & I have been coming to this restaurant on various family occasions over the past 30 years and I can definitely say that we have never had a bad meal here. We had the 3 course Christmas Fayre menu with free tea/coffee for £14.95 and it was brilliant value for the standard of food served. Well done Sitwell Arms!!

Family meal was booked on a Tuesday night to celebrate mother's 84th birthday. The restaurant wasn't busy but the service was quite slow. A reasonable selection was offered on the a la carte menu, and there was a fixed price offer. The eight in our party ordered from the different menus. It took a good 30 mins before the first meal arrived, there was quite a gap before the last meal arrived and the portions were rather small. We had eaten here before and you got vegetables served up separately, not so on this occasion - only about 2 beans on one plate. My mother's plaice was very small indeed - so disappointing all round!

Arriving at the Sitwell Arms at Renishaw for the first time on Mothering Sunday 2013, we were directed by temporary notices to access the Wild Boar restaurant via the public bar entrance. The experience wasn't what we had expected. It looks like many 'sporting pub bars' - large screen, a bit 'spit and sawdust' and just a tad scruffy.Navigating our way through a few corridors to the restaurant the atmosphere changed significantly and raised our spirits.Plenty of friendly staff directed us to an acceptable lounge bar adjacent to the restaurant. Once seated at our table we warmed to the dining experienc.e.Being Mothering Sunday the menu was a short but varied fixed range that we had been asked to notify in advance with a booking reservation fee - a bit of a dated approach! The dishes were of excellent quality and were well presented. A large serving team were present when essential, polite and attentive without being overbearing. Our meal for two, including bar drinks and wine with the meal was good value. Only when it came to pay the bill did we find the Hotel Reception which is at the rear of the building, opposite side to the main road passing the premises. Conclusion? Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised, if you haven't been here before. But go to the rear car park and enter through Reception.

This hotel was the venue for our Wedding reception, 23 years ago and we still visit at least 3 times a year for Anniversarys, Birthdays and Christmas Day lunch. Our most recent visit was for Sunday lunch to celebrate our 23rd anniversary. The food as always was cooked to perfection, You can choose 2 or 3 courses, we opted for the 3 courses. There is a choice of starters, we chose the Yorkshire Pudding with onion gravy, the puddings were crisp and there was lots of onions. For the main course I had roast pork loin, my Husband had beef which was cooked exactly how he likes it, there were roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots & broccoli as well as Yorkshire Pudding. The dessert course is limited and we chose the lemon tart with raspberry coulis, it was very nice without being too filling, also included was coffee & mints. The bill came to £27.90 which we thought was very reasonable, the staff as always were friendly & helpful.

Ordered a coconut milk caramel frappe vi drive through. Server did not add caramel. Assumed it was an allergy. Requested caramel so squirted across top. Argued that this was standard when I asked her to drizzle on sides of cup. Even suggested I take a picture if I wanted to complain. As I put window up to avoid further argument, she called me rude. So my first time leaving a review and will be putting a complaint in with photos. Thanks for the suggestion. Btw you were incorrect - check your own website. Threw the drink away, very liquid and tasted poor. A total waste of time!
