We have eaten here twice in this month and on both occasions we have arrived here at about 18.30 . We enquired if they were still serving food , which they were , and I had the roast. Now at this time on a Sunday you might think the roast would comprise of the left overs however not a bit . It was top notch , the first time I had the roast beef and last night the roast pork. Both meals were really excellent and came with roast potatoes, roast parsnips , yorkshire pudding , cabbage , broccoli, mashed swede , carrots and lashings of gravy ( some might have preferred the gravy in a jug ). The Chef is commended for producing an excellent meal near the end of his shift on what must have been two exhausting days. All the staff and Management were efficient and friendly and to cap it off they sold Harvey's bitter ! Thank you to you all.

Arrived to be told quite abruptly our table wasn't ready. Left in limbo with no real welcome from the staff. Seating limited so quite intimate. Decor very 'Towie' - chandeliers, zebra print, very bling. The young girls serving were very nice but not what was expected in this hyped up establishment. Not sure they wanted to be there. We were looking forward to this night out so were disappointed. Quite expensive food which was 'ok' but nothing special. Difficult getting staff attention to order drinks/order dessert etc. Glad we gave it a go but won't be back unfortunately 😕

Ive not been here for many years, used to take my parents. Went recently with my 15 year old grandson, he thoroughly enjoyed the food, the ambience inside and out. Returned today alone for lunch which was absolutly delicious. Beautiful place, beautiful setting and staff. Not once did I feel conscious I was dining alone, if that makes sense. Would recommend 100%

I went for a Sunday Roast today at "Who'd a thought it" with friends. I chose the Lamb which consisted of literally 3 small tough slices. There was 3 roast potatoes and not enough veg between us. The yorkshire however, was lovely and big. Won't be going back anytime soon. Sorry

Stayed here for one night with my partner in the Vegas suite. On checking in they take £100 security deposit in case of damages. This isn't taken from your account but sits 'pending' on your balance. 5 phone calls, 2 weeks later and empty promises to rectify it, the payment is still pending. They told me it's annoying for them too as other guests are also complaining. They call you 'hon' and they never call back when they say they will. They are disorganised and can't even find their diary when calling them. The food is average, the rooms are ok but the cleanliness in the bar and restaurant is inadequate together with dirty windows. Cobwebs behind sofas in bar were pretty shocking for a 4 star hotel. You get a cheap bottle of Crèmant in the room with their label on it and a box of cheap chocolates. The steam room doesn't work. We asked for extra milk in our room and it took them over half an hour to find some and got them flustered. The young waitresses wore very short skirts and didn't look professional. The hotel was empty with just one other table occupied at 8pm dinner. Cobwebs were however, prevalent. Wouldn't recommend considering its so pricey and it doesn't reflect its 4 star rating. Inadequate hotel with glitzy cover up. Save your money.

The whole experience was lovely in all fairness however the restaurant could be improved, especially for the price. We had Oysters to start which were reasonable hoeveer we ordered the "Asian Oysters" was meant to come with caviar but didn't. When asking about this you could hear the waitress asking in the kitchen If it's meant to come with it but wasn't sure herself even though it's on the menu. But then came back and said they don't have any anyway. Because of this we had discounted Prawns with our main. Wasn't overly an issue but we wanted to try it and seemed a shame that's all. We shared the £70 sharer steak main which was simply just that, seemed more like roast beef not quite like the proper stake you'd get for that price. Sides and sauses were an extra cost and we got cheesy mash, lemon spinach, garlic mushrooms and chips which was super filling and of course the additional prawns (surf and turf) was satisfied with the meal but personally I feel like it could of been better. We shared a pudding which was lovely. As it was Thursday we had a complimentary glass of either red wine or champagne with our steaks. (Was a special offer for Thursdays) but because I already read online about this is I questioned it as the waitress didn't mention it. All together our bill came to about £150 including a couple of cocktails each. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would most definitely try again but perhaps something different

We did a one night stop over, staying in the Versace suite. First impressions we good and we enjoyed the evening, the food was OK, but over priced for the quality. After getting into bed we found the bed was not properly made up and had to remake it. The toilet seat was lose and the toilet paper was at best "happy shopper" quality. We went for breakfast at 930 and found ourselves sitting waiting without food at 1030. When breakfast did arrive the egg looked like it had been involved in a car crash. I think breakfast went bad that morning one couple left due to the wait and orders got mixed arriving at the wrong tables. I expected a little more quality and attention to detail having paid £370 for the room and £160 for dinner. I spoke with reception on departure who took my email and said that the management would be in touch.....nothing not a word.

The burger was one of the best I have had and i've had loads in the US.. Wife said her fish and chips were also good.shared a dessert which again was nice. Recommend giving it a go. Visited for a family Sunday roast. Shame that our first impression when arriving to this beautiful external barn was followed by a terrible experience inside... Whilst the food was of good standard, eating in a room decorated of cheap Essex glam, staff that lack basic customer service training and make you feel uncomfortable for bringing kids for a family lunch results in a place you are unlikely to enjoy! To top it off, our bill was full of mistakes and no apologies were received when we were finally provided with the corrected bill. Avoid, plenty of better and much more welcoming pubs to have a Sunday roast in the area!

We came here as our family had found the restaurant available in the location in which we were staying. Upon arrival the decor was certainly bold but the welcome kind. We were shown through to an even more ostentatious decor. Nonetheless we weren't deterred. The menu was simple and the food delicious. I don't think there was a single clean plate among our party. The real let down was the service. In this day and age I don't think its appropriate to dress provocatively whilst working in the hospitality industry. One waitress was wearing a top which left very little to the imagination and a skirt that didn't cover her derriere. I believe for an establishment to raise its standards it would work well if the company employed a uniform that didn't resemble Anne Summers.

As others have said, from the outside it is just like any other country pub but inside it is quite blingy and, we are told, the rooms are gorgeous and highly original. Went for dinner with friends during the week. We waited a long time to get served with drinks and even longer for our food order to be taken, so were initially unimpressed as we felt we were being ignored. However, once the food came the service improved significantly and the food was really good, so would return.

All our main courses were delicious, I had the pork belly which was one of the best I’ve had, the various kinds of beetroot made it interesting. My husband had the fish dish with an Asian twist which he said was fab. Puds were top quality, all homemade... We really enjoyed our lunch and were not rushed so it turned into a lovely lunch/afternoon. We look forward to returning and introducing more friends to this great eating place.

Have lived close by for quite a few years, meaning to try. Eventually did last, Thursday - wow! Not only is the decor unique and fantastic, but the food is out of this world. Whether you choose the crab salad, tomato /mozzarella or scallops for starters, apart from other tasty morsels on menu, you will not be disappointed. Had steaks for main course, 2 x fillets and 1 x ribeye, perfect quality and cooked immaculately according to order of 2 x medium and 1 x medium/rare. Not one for desserts was forced into it by wife and daughter. Incredible, what more can I say, all accompanied by a beautiful Malbec!

Took the chance and popped in for a light bite , I ordered the crab salad without cucumber. I was very shocked to see the what was on the plate . No white crab meat just a pureed brown crab meat ( it could have been what you buy in jars for 1,49 } and a spoon full of advocado also pureed .. No salad at all apart from a few wispy bits of what was probably pea shoots. I realise this was a starter but they shouldnt call it a salad and charge £12 for it. I could have had their roast chicken dinner for £13 and wished i had . We did complain and was given half back on the price of the "salad" .Please re name this dish to pureed crab . We wont visit again .

We visited the restaurant a year ago and were blown away with the food so decided to come back for a family members bday for some lunch. The first thing that struck us were how odd the pricing of the food was, one member of our party ordered asparagus and hollandaise which had a high price of £12, quite expensive for a starter, whereas other members ordered the prawns which were very reasonably priced at £7 and the portion was extremely generous. One member of the party ordered soup of the day, however they failed to bring out any bread with it, and did not come and check back to see if starters were ok so was a long wait to get the bread, and when they did bring it they didn’t bring any butter which caused a further wait. Overall, starters were okay, nothing like what we remembered, the prawns were disappointing despite the ample quantity of them. The menu stated they were garlic and chilli prawns, which to me would be prawns cooked in chopped garlic and chilli, however in fact were prawns in a tomato sauce. The chips that come with the mains were delicious, and so were the burgers, however I had the chicken Caesar salad and to be frank have had better at a chain restaurant. It simply was lettuce leafs and grilled chicken with Caesar sauce. No shaved Parmesan or other salad ingredients. Really disappointing. Another member of the party had to send their mussels back as the sauce was watery and they were quite a few mussels in there that had not opened. The waitress never once asked us how our meals were so was always an effort to try and attract her attention for extra drinks or to send the food back. The chef took her main off the bill and gave a free dessert which was nice. The puddings really did make the visit and are what have saved the restaurant from receiving 1 star from us, they were outstanding and of high quality which is how we remembered the restaurant from our last visit. But for one course to be excellent just wasn’t good enough. And the table service was awful, especially considering there was only us and one other table.

My friend and I had the crispy ham hock for starter, that was delicious. My husband and his friend had the pea and mint risotto which was yummy too. All the mains were of a very high standard. It was my birthday, my husband had contacted them earlier in the week to ask if they could make me a cake. It was a lovely surprise when Claire brought out the cake that the chef had made. It looked amazing, Mary Berry would have been impressed with the mirror glaze, I hope my photo does it justice and it tasted divine. We had a great time and were not rushed. Will definitely return. The downside however, was, on entering the bar area of the restaurant the smell of urine is quite overpowering and this continues through to the restaurant.. There was a dog running loose in and out of the kitchen (not sure this meets hygiene regulations) and the upholstery and fabric finishings in the dining area are clearly in need of a deep clean as they were a bit tired, stained and grubby looking, with a greasy feel - not pleasant at all.

Came for the boyfriends birthday, with the prices on the menu I thought it would be fine dining. We ordered the chateaubriand, now my boyfriend is a lover of steak so we have had a lot of them from many different restaurants where we have paid much less and received much better quality. If the prices were lower i would of given the review 5/5, not to mention the service could of also been better with improved communication between staff as they didn’t know who’s received what service at each table, we were also waiting longer than expected to be served after being seated. It’s also a very small restaurant so you’d expect on point service. Overall it was a pleasant experience as we also stayed the night in the quirky decorated rooms!

Such a shame as this would be the 6th time we have visited including a great night new years eve and we usually can't fault the place but tonight was very different. Waitress was unsure of the drinks they served and then forgot half of them when we ordered. Starters came out within minutes of ordering including scallops and soup and we did comment how quick it was. Turns out my soup was cold but not as cold as the RAW scallops that my partner ate half of one of before he could notice it was fridge cold in the middle. The same waitress came and took them and my soup away and even when we stated how dangerous this was she didn't seem bothered. The replacements were fine. Main course I ordered well done lamb to be greeted by blood still in it but it was just about acceptable so didn't worry too much however the veg consisted of chard which was just pure salt and 3 pieces of a celery type thing which you couldn't get a fork or knife into it was rock solid. The manager did come over and I explained the problem and then said we went that pleased after the raw scallops to which she said she knew nothing about and did seem more concerned than the waitress. She also said she would bring more veg but all they had was spinach. I accepted but by the time it arrived I had eaten my meat and 2 baby potatoes so was just left with a pile of again very salty spinach and some charred vine tomatoes which were again warm on in the outside and fridge cold in the middle. No-one came and asked us whether the new meal was ok or I would have advised them it wasn't really any better. In fairness though my partner did enjoy his main course. The waitress advised us they would remove just the scallops from the bill. I stated I would like my main removed as well as it had to be sent back and it wasn't enjoyable. She did go and ask the manager and she refused. This made me quite miffed which is why I am writing this review. I wouldn't have done but the whole night was such a let down. I have had poor food in places before but it didn't matter as the service made up for it. Not the case here will not be returning.

On the Internet this just looks fabulous, We arrived after an arduous journey down country lanes that were just wide enough for one vehicle, if anything was coming the other way, you had to reverse. The rooms were wooden chalet types and not very cleanat 200 pounds a night we expected more. Dinner was even worse, the Menu was poor & the lamb we ordered had to be sent back as it was raw. A great case of misrepresentation on the internet.

Our eldest daughter arranged for my wife and I to celebrate, one my wife's birthday on 30 June and for me a belated Father's Day. We arrived just after 10:00 a.m, and we chose to sit outside as it was a sunny and warm morning. We were shown to a bamboo pagoda seating area, we were served firstly with champagne topped with a very large strawberry, followed by Latte Coffee whilst we chose what to eat for breakfast. My wife and I settled for a bacon and mushroom omelette made from 4 eggs and our daughter chose the kippers and poached eggs, all followed by toast and marmalade. What an excellent breakfast, the staff were very pleasant, service was particularly quick, and to top it all off my daughter asked the staff to provide in advance a small birthday cake. An excellent choice of venue on our daughters behalf, and somewhere else for us to go in the future.

We booked to go again for having a meal there earlier in the year, however this time was a bit disappointed. Will go again as hopefully this was just a blip!

We visited the 'Who'd a Thought It Restaurant' last week. This was our first visit and as already stated the carpark is large and so there was no problem parking. There is no doubt that the restaurant is different, however this does add to its charm. I found the staff to be very pleasant and obliging. We did not have to wait long or our food, even though we did not have starters, this was on the advice of our friend who had been there before and knew what was coming. We ordered the seafood platter. I could not believe what came up! There was whole crab, prawns, langoustine, half lobster salmon and lots more. I cannot remember the name of this dish but it is obviously one of their specialities. This was washed down with a good pint of beer and a glass of good wine. We only just had room for pudding which was sticky toffee followed by a nice coffee. This lunch was defiantly not cheap but no doubt one I will remember for a long time.If you must point out a down side, it is only that it is a bit in the middle of nowhere but this is no trouble with a satnav. I suppose I'm really being a bit picky here. Finally conclusion, very nice and unique restaurant, excellent food and one I would recommend for that special occasion.

Delicious food but very expensive. Don't go here if you want value for money. Outrageous decor which is a real talking point, definitely a wow restaurant. Loads of parking, excellent lunch menu much better value. Nice place for just a drink too.

I had heart lots about this place over the years, so took Mum there on mothers day. The decour is like Bet Lynch's bedroom. Naff and tacky. The food was OK, but I wouldn't go back, wasn't quite worth the drive.

I have to say the worst service I have had in years . For the money we paid and for the patience we had we had no apology for late drinks nor for the extra 45 pounds added to our bill for no reason .

I've reviewed the hotel separately, my overall view was that given the price point I would expect 5* but a number of niggling, small issues meant that Who'd a thought it doesn't quite make the grade. The building that the restaurant is in is a beautiful old English pub style, the bar was good with an excellent choice of champagne and gin and decorated in the quirky way that makes this place what it is but without taking away from the old world charm. However on going through to the restaurant the atmosphere changes somewhat. This is a small square room with tables around the edge and one long one in the middle, it just feels very open and odd, more so given they appear to cater mainly to couples. The food was mixed in my opinion, my starter (the scallops) were excellent but my main, the lobster thermidor, not so much. The sauce was fairly bland and the whole thing overpowered by the thick, greasy layer of cheese over the top, way too much. The lobster was also one of the smallest I've seen, think Lidl £5 size. That said my wife had the mixed seafood platter which looked amazing. Deserts were good. The evening was spoilt somewhat by the arrival of the musician, on arriving he unloads his keyboard, etc. through the patio doors which pretty much fill one wall of the restaurant. Usually, apart from the noise which may spoil the atmosphere, this wouldn't be a problem but when it's -5 outside the continual opening of the doors made for an uncomfortable experience. I would suggest he needs to either set up earlier or come through the main bar doors. I really felt for the couple sat closest to where he set up, they were in the middle of what looked to be a romantic meal and he then arrived setting up his keyboard, amp, etc. literally an inch from their table. Whilst he was as quiet as possible I noticed them keep glancing over as you can't help but cause disruption and noise when setting up. Why he hadn't set up prior to the restaurant opening I don't know, again for me it's these little things that really elevate a place to 5*.Overall the food was good, but as with the hotel if you want to charge a premium price then there are a number of little things that need to be done to warrant it. Simply being ok isn't good enough given where Who'd a Thought it is pitching itself. We will return, I loved the place, I just hope that they work on the small things that could make it truly great.

My partner and I treated ourselves to a night away last year, paying £350 for the privilege to stay in one of the lodges. On first glance, the very large room was mighty impressive. Was pleased with the jacuzzi bath, hot tub in the garden, lovely looked decor. Again I say on first glance. When we got settled into the room and took a seat outside, we didn't get a chance to enjoy the peace we paid so much for but thumping, loud music from the people next door. We then went back inside and tried to play our own music. After calling the reception to report this, we were told the tech guy wasn't available so we couldn't connect to the speaker and couldn't have our music on so we could relax in the hot tub.We took a look around for a while and found the room really was not clean to any standard whatsoever. There was dust everywhere, the bed looked like it was made from cheap plastic and had gaps between the frame and mattress, quite large ones which looked as though it hadnt been fitted properly. We decided to leave the room for a while and had some lunch. We both ordered paninis, and waited quite literally 55 minutes for these to arrive. We counted 4 other people there at the same time as we were. My partner was eating her panini and found a short dark hair in hers....she's blonde. It definitely wasn't hers! After this we went back to our room, relaxed for a while and decided to go to bed around 12.30/1am. We were kept awake by next doors indoor jacuzzi and voices until 4am! Extraordinarily disappointed so far, but hey ho. We still went for breakfast. I had eggs benedict. Nice enough. My partner had an English breakfast. She asked if she could have the bacon a little well done. Specifically a LITTLE well done. It arrived black. Inedible and black. It was a horrible end to a disappointing night. £150 per night I would say is fair for rooms that are too close together for ANY sort of privacy or peace, but upside they have a hot tub. £350 is FAR too overpriced for something that only looks impressive on first glance.

Lovely restaurant in a beautiful rural location. The quality of the food was superb. The roast chicken was so tasty and tender, and the Yorkshire pud was perfection. Save room for desserts!! They were pretty wicked too. I also thought it was priced surprisingly well for a restaurant of this calibre. I've paid a lot more for a lot less in chain restaurants in Maidstone. So well worth the drive.

Booked to visit before going bowling so ensured I had pkenty of time. My goodness but it's a cross country trek to get there. On arrival weirdly it was hard to be certain which was the restaurant as the big sign was quite a long way from the building. Went in and I was the first customer in the restaurant (it was early on a Friday night) I was hive the menu to peruse which was quite hard as it contained a duplicate starter sheet and no mains.Eventually they came to see what I wanted to order and had to get me another menu. Not the longest menu but about enough choice.Starter was a peppered beef Carpaccio with mixed leaves that was very nice.Main was a seafood linguine in a fish velour which was nice but not outstanding.Dessert was one of my all time favourites a creme brulee, this was around 1cm deep and far too thick. The flavour was passable but the texture really wasn't nice.Toilets were clean but no toilet roll. Had to wait whilst they found oneOverall it's a quirky place with "individualistic" decor trying hard not quite made it though.Staff were really noisy in the kitchen which wasn't far from me.Overall a bit above average until the dessert!

Best experience of my life so far. My boyfriend surprises me for my birthday and we continuously still say to this day 'Who'd a thought it' as a little joke to ourselves. Lovely rooms, was even offered an upgrade at a cheaper rate when we arrived. The hot tub and the champagne were the main highlights. Very lovely experience recommend it a lot.

I had heard this pub/ restaurant name bandied but never got round to visiting this until this summer. It is set what seems like in the middle of no-where but easy to find. Attached to it are rooms name after Champagnes.Only had a very nice bottle of red as wasn't very Hungry but looking at the menu was very tempted as it boasted a delightful choice from al carte to small bites. It had a large seated outside area with a large marquee that looked like it was for weddings/parties.The extensive dining area looked opulent decorated in different animal skins gold's and glitter. Its definitely on my " hit list" of places to eat.

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. It was the first time we had been here and didn't find the restaurant too easy as we walked through the main bar and there was a wedding reception so the place was packed. The door to the restaurant was closed with signs up in a dark corner. Once we was in there the staff were friendly and the food came in a decent time. The food was very nice and the portions a size. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because the got a live singer in half way through our meal and he left the French doors open for ages and our food got cold, also the table next to us were smokers and the staff let them go out the French doors to smoke and they kept leaving the door open which sort of put a downer not the night. It's not cheap here so wouldn't expect stuff like this to happen.

A HUGE thank you to all the staff and management of this fantastic venue for making our 50th Anniversary so special. Over 65 of our friends and relatives have said how much they enjoyed the day. Superb food and wine ,and the musician and his singer were just right for the occasion. I cannot recommend the Whod'i highly enough. Fabulous .

Good location in picturesque surroundings lovely raised decked area to the front to enjoy the view, we came on a Sunday and had the roast dinner, very good, staff friendly, helpful and attentive. I didn't mind the decor thought it was different, my partner thought it was gaudy! But you can't please us all, if we are in the area again we will return.

We came here for some food on a Saturday and the atmosphere and service was amazing. The staff were all so polite and the setting and surroundings were lovely in Boxley. The food was exceptional and delicious and we will definitely be returning as it is was an amazing traditional pub! Thank you ☺️.

Very busy, very efficient, very varied a menu. I happened upon this eatery by chance and very welcome it was too - the food is well cooked and presented and from a big menu. I especially enjoyed the mushrooms, which were chunky-cut. You can barely find a large and comprehensive breakfast for under a tenner these days, but this place [just about] sells one

My first visit but it won’t be my last? I’m not one for superlatives but the chicken shish was delicious moist and tender but still had crispy edges. The salad was crispy the chips fluffy centre and crispy outside the whole meal superb. Try it you will not be disappointed 10/10

BRILLIANT! We visited once maybe about 20 years ago and were very disappointed, but perhaps because that was because the place was being renovated which spoilt the atmosphere. We decided the time was right to try it again. We had a lovely lunch, our only criticism was the scallop starter which was just 4 very small shellfish with no roes, for £16.00 very nicely cooked etc, but an astronomical charge for such a small dish. I had garlic prawns, far better value for £9. £32 for a main of hake and £28 for lamb two ways. A following pannacotta was superb. Lovely meal at a lovely venue. We're going to stay there come the late nights to see how it turns out as an hotel.
