We have lived in this area for 15 years and passed the Whitmore Tea Rooms many times. Today we stopped and visited the tearooms for lunch. I was very impressed with the ambience of the place, lovely bone china on the table. The good was absolutely first class and plentiful. A good selection of beverages both alcoholic and non- alcoholic were available. The staff were very friendly and courteous and the bill I thought was very reasonable for what we had for go our lunch. We will definitely be returning soon !

My daughter took me for Prosecco afternoon tea for my Birthday. Disappointed is an under statement. Prosecco glass half empty 🍾 one stand for BOTH of us consisting of 4 sandwiches , ONE tiny scone and ONE slice of cake 🍰 . Diabolical tbf Bygones or the Rabbit hole will knock spots of this place. At £25.95 per person absolutely shocking. Pre- booked and our table wasn't even ready ???? Never again our cash will be going to one of the much better competitors.

We came as a party for afternoon tea. Whilst the place is lovely and the staff attentive, paying £22 for 4 triangle sandwiches, a tiny scone, a piece of cake and a tea was overpriced and substandard compared to other local venues. Refreshing of more sandwiches or cakes wasn’t offered, again like other local venues do, it was simply 4 triangle sandwiches, a tiny small score and a very small slice of cake. Very disappointing and not worth the money. I actually feel quite passionate that I wasted £22.

My wife and I had a superb Afternoon Tea at Whitmore Tea rooms , as part of our wedding anniversary celebrations. The food was excellent, with a great selection and proper tea and coffee. We had a warm welcome from the staff , who are very polite and helpful. Really pleasant location, with a well laid out seating area, with some tables and chairs outside in the garden area.

The food quality is noticeably reduced from my last visit. The beef & turkey was processed rubbery ‘meat’ you get from cheap supermarkets - very disappointing. We got one small jam pot between two people which was ridiculous. Won’t be going again.

Visited with family for afternoon tea, celebrating a 60th birthday…very disappointed. For £21.95 each we got 1 piece of cake a small scone 4 small sandwich triangles and pot of tea which was supposed to be topped up, which I didn’t know about until after we’d paid. Looked at the menu after we’d visited it would’ve been £10 each cheaper if we’d ordered sandwich cake and tea. Compared to another venue we attended a few weeks later it for afternoon tea it was poor. At the other venue where we had 4 beautiful cakes each 1 1/2 large scone each and extra sandwiches which we were told we could have on our arrival plus top up tea which we were told about on our arrival too. We asked for boxes to take the cakes we couldn’t eat home. When the waitress bought the boxes they also contained a cup cake. Much better value for money, it was a proper afternoon tea served by very attentive staff. The tables were dressed immaculatey the crockery was lovely too unlike whitmore where the cups and saucer are china but the tea is put in gaudy heavy earthenware teapots. I would rather pay £4 more and go back to the 2nd venue we went a few weeks later. We felt we had something special xx

Surprise treat organised by my friend. Never been for afternoon tea but it didn't disappoint. Firstly the venue is super clean, well spaced out and just beautiful. The selection was great I personally opted for the pate with chutney which was delicious and my friend had soup and sandwiches. A glass of wine was also enjoyed. We booked for 12 so it was quiet on arrival however it got really busy as it is obviously popular. Lovely experience, lovely surroundings and I will definitely go again. Thank you its a gem

We have not been here for a while, because we have The Rabbit Hole in Stoke closer and easier to book a table. I find that Whitmore when busy don't answer the phone. My partner and myself decided to treat my mum as shes been under the weather for a while and shes not been for even longer than us. We used to come just for Tea and Cake or for Lunch, but we decided to do the afternoon Tea at £21 each The service is still just as slow and did get my order wrong as i am very fussy to fillings in the sandwiches. I just wanted them plain. They didn't come plain. The fillings were plentiful but no choice in the bread like before and at other places. Scones seemed smaller, but just as nice, but only 2 small pots of jam between the 3 of us. So did ask for a third. The cake, you had plenty of choices, but nothing that I would call "normal" like a Victoria sandwich. I ended up with the only choice i kinda liked Biscoff. This as a loaf cake so far to dense unlike the normal cakes they do. My mum and partner went for coffee which was again a loaf cake. This was even drier than mine. Very little to no flavor in the cake part just a different top and my partners had nuts in. Its like its the same mix but with nuts. Just as we were finishing they finally asked if we wanted more tea, which was then too late. As I went to pay they were already turning the table for the next people. Average for the money.

Second time we've been, we both travel an hour to get here as it's a convenient place between our cities, not too far off the M6. Plenty of (free) parking, a couple of steps to be aware of if you have mobility issues. A previous review said it was expensive-I disagree. It's not cheap, however neither are the ingredients used. It's soft fresh bread (not the mass produced rubbish), generous fillings, huge slices of cake, and little extra touches such as raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, fruit slice in drinks etc. As vegetarians we had enough choices and were able to adjust our options with no hesitation from staff, who were all a good balance of professional but friendly. It's popular so I'd advise booking, but we kept our table for almost 4h. We're picky but would both recommend it and will certainly return.

Came for afternoon tea and was very disappointed, £22 for 4 sandwiches and 2 cakes, really? Would not be my first choice for afternoon tea again. I’ve visited elsewhere and you get far more for the same price if not less. I came with my daughter and felt very out of place, she’s a toddler and displayed normal toddler behaviour but could feel I was being judged. It is definitely for a certain class of customer and I wouldn’t come again. It wasn’t to rave about, £60 later and I am disappointed. There are far better tea rooms in the area.

We visited the tea room for afternoon tea recently. The service was faultless and the food was absolutely delicious. I was impressed with the authentic ambience of the tea room. I’ve been to many tea rooms and the Whitmore experience easily surpassed any other tea rooms I have previously visited. The service was very professional I was very impressed that they successfully managed a large party of guests whilst at the same time continuing to provide personal touches to us. I can honestly say that I have never been so disappointed. We organised a baby shower at Whitmore Tea rooms in the belief that it would be the easier option. This turned out to be incorrect. From the start we were not allocated the full space we believed we were having and I felt sorry for any customer that sat near us. We felt we were being watched closely when decorating and told what we could and couldn’t do. None of this was disclosed to us prior to arriving. Tea and coffee orders were not taken, although this was included in the afternoon tea price. Sandwich selections were not allowed meaning people paid almost £21 for half a sandwich. Again, the concept that sandwich choices could not be made is something we were again not told during the booking process. Cake orders were also missed meaning everyone ate at different times and people were left frustrated and confused. The staff came across as both rude and obnoxious, excluding a lovely young lady who was making some attempts to resolve issues. The tea room took £700 from our visit so we expected much better than this. If they can’t cope with such large booking I suggest that they do not be made. I would strongly advise against booking such functions here.

Arriving here just after lunchtime to treat my mother and sister to a nice cup of tea and maybe a cake, we just about managed to park on the car park. The car park isn't the largest and is shared between the tea room and the pub next door. Needless to say, it was full, so I managed to squeeze into the corner near the bins. This wasn't helped by the inconsiderate / selfish parking of two cars, (see photos). Entering the tea room, my stomach dropped as it is obviously geared towards high end clientele. I just wanted a nice cuppa, not the full Miss Marple experience, however as I'd promised this to my sister and mother - I had to follow through with it. Approaching the counter, we were met by I assume was the owner. We asked if there was a table free for three only to asked with the dreaded Covid era question - "Have you booked a table"? The tea room was two thirds empty and we would only be there for about 15 mins tops, but there was nothing to do, so we left. To be fair, the tea rooms are very nicely decorated, in the style of 1940's quaint English Miss Marple-esque. Obviously I can't comment on the food, as I didn't get any - but the impression I got was that it would be VERY expensive for minimalism. Would I return? It's highly unlikely as I didn't feel comfortable from the moment I entered. Don't get me wrong, the staff seemed okay and the owner (?) was polite enough when turning us away. But it strikes me as the venue frequented by retired MD's and wives of wealthy executives. That said, give it go - you may like it. Make sure you book though and save yourselves a wasted trip.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I booked a table for 6 people at 3pm for afternoon tea for my mother’s 70th birthday. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were told that one of our tables was ready, it was set up for 4 people. We were shown the table next to us and told it would be pushed together for us however there were customers currently dining on this table. We were advised they would be finished by 3pm. As there is no room to stand inside our party split up, half stood outside and half sat at the empty table. By 3pm it was obvious the table would not be vacated any time soon, the diners had only just consumed the sandwiches of their afternoon tea and still had scones and cakes to eat. Hungry ourselves and unhappy at being split up I spoke to a member of staff who told us that the people on our table were late arriving which is why we were waiting. I am extremely unhappy that we booked and were made to stand around and wait because other people arrive late, we had the good manners to arrive on time (early). I am even more unhappy that the member of staff told us this as it made us feel very angry and resentful of the people taking their time dining while we stand watching. Eventually we were moved to other tables after waiting for other diners to finish. To add insult to injury, a group of 4 people arrived and sat at the table we originally had AFTER we had been seated and they were served before us. They were eating and drinking just after we had our orders taken which left us feeling like we wanted to walk out. Our tables which were not set up and we all felt uncomfortable as the table was set up abruptly, plates slammed down in front of us. Most of the party felt as though they were inconveniencing the staff, which we were not and we should not be made to feel this way. We did not receive an apology and most of the group feel as though the experience was completely off putting. I emailed to advise of our experience and my complaint and I never received a response, just plain rude. Won’t be going back, won’t be recommending either. My advice, so elsewhere.

Came here with friends from work to celebrate a retirement. It was very noisy but there was a baby shower in at the same time. I thought the food was lovely but way over priced for what you got, 2 rounds of sandwiches, scone, piece of cake and a drink.

A group of 12 ladies were invited for scones and tea. Really lovely tea room with lovely mismatched china tea sets. Beautiful scones, jam and cream. Just a short distance from Newcastle on edge of lovely countryside.

Went today to Whitemore Tea Rooms with my mum and my husband. We booked a table on advance as I know how busy it can be. We arrived at 12pm and custom was just starting to pick up for lunch. We all had cream tea, scones were lovely warm and fresh. Really nice surrounding and just perfect place for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

We stumbled across this on Saturday afternoon and I have to say I’m absolutely delighted we did. The Battenberg cake was quite possibly the best bit of cake I’ve had in years. We will definitely return & I would recommend this to anyone who is in the local area. It’s absolutely super.

Went for my birthday treat, everything was delicious. Sandwiches and cakes were lovely and homemade. The kids Afternoon Tea was amazing, my young daughter loved it. It was really tailored for little ones, sandwiches, Victoria sponge, sweets, crisps and fruit. The coffee and scones were really delicious. Really nice vintage feel to the place and staff lovely. Will definitely return and recommend to anyone.

Since finding this lovely venue earlier in the year, we have visited quite a number of times on our journeys along the A53. We have called in without booking a few times when they open at 10 am and always got a table. A lot of people book up even for the morning. It seems rather popular for afternoon teas.

We recently held my daughters baby shower here. I can honestly not find fault with anything. The sandwiches and home made cakes were divine. The staff were excellent kept coming round to replenish both food and drink always with a smile and nothing as too much trouble for them. They usually close at 4.00 on a Sunday but it was after 5.00 when we left at no time did we feel pressured to leave any earlier. Thankyou for making our event so enjoyable would definately recommend.

We visited Whitmore tea rooms for the first time we booked in advance as I had heard it gets very busy.! The table was ready when we arrived it stated on the table it was booked from 12.30 till 2.30 (I thought we may be asked for the table back if we ran over but no we didn’t leave till 4.15 with no attempts to rush us off and we were asked numerous times if we would like more tea/coffee.! Overall a very enjoyable experience the sandwiches were lovely and fresh with lots of choice of fillings and the cakes and scones were delicious.! Excellent value for money in a lovey relaxed atmosphere, will definitely be returning.

Lovely afternoon tea; choice of teas, sandwiches & slice of homemade cakes. Vast variety of cakes to choose from, just a pity you can only choose one. Two smaller slices would be perfect.

I love Whitmore tearooms, love the decoration and atmosphere. It’s so frustrating though how it’s so hard to get a table- though obviously this is a good sign as its popular. Visited last weekend. Had delicious cakes. It’s a nice experience. Will be returning on our next visit to the area in the new year

These tearooms provide a lovely environment with plenty of parking. The staff are attentive and pleasant. We had afternnon tea, the tea itself was first rate and replenished as often as you wish. The sandwiches were also very good with lovely fresh bread, a nice range of fillings to choose from and generously filled when they arrived. The scones were disappointing, rather small and a little dry, and a small saucer of jam and very 'solid' cream served together between three of us. In mitigation we were given more jam and cream when we asked, but in my opinion it should be served separately as not everyone will like both jam and cream. There was a lovely selection of cakes to choose from however we all had different ones and we all thought that they were a little dry and seriously lacked filling. Would I go again? not sure.

a nice spot with good views over the local area ordered a steak that was so tough I couldn’t cut into it even with a steak knife left 80% of it as I couldn’t cut any more chunks off to try and it came with chips that looked ok but had not been blanced before being deep fried so i had to leave those to had decided to go on the basis of other reviews we were not expecting anything other than good basic food but left very dissapointed the items on the menu looked interesting with a good selection at reasonable prices but what we ate was fairly inedible, will not be going back

Have came up to this area for a few days and was looking for somewhere to go to grab breakfast or lunch. We found the place easily enough with the sat nav and when we drove in, there is a flag outside the main door saying GG's care now open. We went inside and were met by a very pleasant lady by the name of Pearl who tells us that the place doesn't open on a Monday. This is despite it saying on other sites, including their own that it's open 9am-2pm. Please update your information to save other people needless trips.

Great friendly pub with good cosy atmosphere. Staff are friendly and efficient. Food is o erall very yood though prices like most places have increased. Paid £19 for a mixed grill which was basically a cooked breakfast with peas and a very small steak. No chicken portion and steak only 4oz though have to say was cooked beautifully . One of party had his usual liver and mash though we could see gravy looked a bit congealed and not the dark lovely usual. We gave feedback to Mike behind bar but don't think he believed us or wanted to accept any feedback that was slightly negative though to be fair he did say he was sorry if that was our opinion. Would return but bit more careful about what order.
