Wonderful meal for lunch today, great service, large portions, delicious 👌

Went on a Wednesday night for dinner. The usual friendly greeting in the bar for a quick drink before going through to the lounge for dinner. The service was excellent throughout the evening. I had the steak and ale pie which was absolutely delicious and far nicer than the equivalent at The Plume. My wife had the braised steak which just fell apart. Lovely fresh vegetables and everything piping hot. Tempted with dessert but portions very generous. Tremendous value for money. Well worth a try if you've not been

Visited yesterday evening for the steak night. Absolutely delicious, the steak was cooked to perfection and the chips were second to none. Our favourite place for food as it never disappoints and is exceptional value for money. All food is home cooked and traditional, served by friendly and welcoming staff in a relaxed setting. Highly recommended.

Excellent meal, traditional pub grub, braised steak, liver & onions & scampi eaten. All delicious. Welcoming & friendly staff.

Visited this pub last night for one of their steak special meals. It was the best sirloin steak I have tasted in years. Cooked to perfection with a well flavoured stilton sauce, fresh chips and crispy onion rings. Well done for all aspects of my experience. I am recommending this to all meat lovers.

Superb meal best braised steak I've ever ate didn't need a knife cut it was a large plate full only 11.25 for a brilliant meal I highly recommend the food here hidden gem

Okay so it is one of life's great mysteries that what looks like an ordinary pub is somehow doing better food than most of the mid-scale restaurants in Newcastle, and not charging through the nose for it. Chicken fillet with stilton: Well cooked, sauce was delicious, chicken not dry. Generous portion size. Steak and ale pie: beef was incredibly tender with deep flavour, meat not overpowered by ale. Service was punctual and helpful but not intrusive. Prices are very reasonable for pub food standards. Hygiene: everything is clean and neatly kept, can't ask much more. There is a small area for parking, the atmosphere is cosy, I am very full.

I had extra gravy at at no extra charge and that was delicious too. The gravy here is fabulous and I would say the best tasting in the local area! Sauces are lovely like horseradish and do not come in those awful sachets that you get in some pubs. Needles to say i am a regular customer and I recognise quality homemade food which is incredibly consistent, time after time!! Highly recommended!

Called in for lunch, having not been for a number of years. Was not disappointed, plenty to choose from, both on the menu and the specials board. This is one of the few eateries where the food is “ home cooked “ , and you can actually get mashed and boiled potatoes, as well as chips. The meals came , hot plates , hot food and very tasty! My only complaint was, it is only open 2 hours at lunch time and 2 hours in the evening.

We had a really nice light lunch..hot chunky beef and fried onion baguettes with their famous chips and a little salad..it was so tasty ..just a perfect lunch.

We visited for a Sunday roast lunch with some friends and it was superb. Great choice, lovely food and plenty of it. Compliments to the chef. Service was spot on too. We will definitely return.

Had my 50th birthday meal here for 13 of us It was a late booking but they did all to accommodate us. The food was excellent, everything was hot & delicious & with well organised prompt service, I had the steak pie & it's amazing as was my starter & pud. All my family & friends really enjoyed theirs too. Great night as also had a band on in the bar. Thank you to Karen & all the staff for the wonderful service & home cooked food 😘 5 stars from me x

A speculative visit on a Sunday lunchtime at this popular pub, resulted in Steve, sorry, that should be Phil, finding three of us a late table for some meals. We found the atmosphere conducive for a quiet repast and a few drinks. Staff were very attentive and saw us to our non-reserved table in the lounge. Well priced meals were served in reasonable time and sufficient for all our appetites, or should I say more than enough. Well worth a visit for both meals and their wide selection of beers and lagers but probably best to book first if planing to eat there.

Nipped in to the waggon and horses for a quick pint looks a nice little place was told by one of the regulars that the food is very nice so we will be returning for a meal.

Our regular monthly ladies lunch was held again at the Waggon & Horses where we all enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch. As always, the home cooked food was delicious and Karen & Phil and their staff are wonderful. I’ve never been disappointed at the Waggon & Horses and will continue to visit there in the future.

Food, staff ,ambiance ..excellent.. You can't go wrong with what ever you have.The vegetables are always al dente our favourite is steak & ale pie..a must have

An absolutely fabulous pub , Karen and Phil and all the staff are so lovely they’ve always got a warm welcome for you . The food here is delicious with a lovely homemade feel. All in all a fabulous place to visit and light years above all these larger chain in personal pubs .

For a first time, it was perfect. The food was delicious and thank you for "the doggy bag" as you call it in English, being French I did not know the expression, you learn something every day. The service and the ambiance were good. I will go again.

Our first time at the wagon and horses after lots of recommendations we eventually went for a meal and how tasty it was ,the chips were the best I've had whilst eating out . Would definitely recommend in fact we've booked for Sunday lunch it was so nice 👍

We went for a meal to celebrate my birthday. The atmosphere, as normal, was relaxed, casual and exceedingly welcoming. I ordered a steak and my wife went for the roast of the day. Both meals were served fresh, piping hot and excellent. The steak was superb by the way! My wife followed the meal with with a blackberry cheesecake, Which she declared was fantastic! The whole experience was relaxed, unhurried and completely enjoyable. Give the Waggon your custom - soon (!) and enjoy great food at great prices, before they grow too successful! Thankyou to the owners and all the staff - you made an old man VERY happy!

We visited Saturday 20 May 2023. This was a hot day and it was nice and cool inside. I had braised steak, chips and veg. This was delicious and the chips were yummy!. The braised steak itself was tender and lean, a good portion size and smothered in yummy gravy. I have had this same meal several times before and today's meal was just as good as previous visits. The food has a lovely home-made feel and is very consistent in its quality. My partner who is vegetarian had a customized salad baguette and chips which she liked. The only downside is that vegetarians are not really looked after here with a good variety of dishes, but it's pure joy for meat-eaters!!!

What a great place. Absolutely fantastic food, could not fault it. Staff were lovely too and very friendly….Will definitely be going back there, in fact I booked a birthday celebration too….Booking recommend though…..Good value for money too and very generous portion sizes….A lovely little place.

The Waggon has to be my favourite place to drink eat and socialise. The warmth and welcome extended by the staff is very special .. This Christmas we have enjoyed a Wreath making evening, a Christmas quiz , a Christmas lunch, a Carol concert and an amazing New Years dinner and party (disco and karaoke. Everyone looks out for each other .. This is the essence of a fantastic neighbourhood pub. Thank you x

First time in this pub, but not the last! Food was excellent and the staff lovely. I am very pleased my daughter decided to stay in the area after graduating from Keele, we constantly find lovely places to visit and cant wait to come back.

Absolutely brilliant New Year's Eve party at the wagon and horses. Our first time there and we received a warm welcome from the staff and the regulars. The food was superb, the atmosphere fantastic. We couldn't have asked for more. We'll definitely come back! The wagon and horses is a hidden gem in Newcastle under Lyme.

Very decorated place, main course was very disappointing, a small looked tiny compared to a average child's meal, the only saving graces are friendly staff and better deserts, don't think me or my family will come back to this establishment

Beers were good, strong and refreshingly cold. The food though wasn’t good came here on the principle of other reviews stating home made when in fact it was pre cut chips and a Morrisons bakers section style steak pie with frozen garden peas. Atmosphere very dim not busy on the food side and no music on the plus the heating was on and it was cosy. Did feel intimidated by the bar woman watching our plates every few minutes.

Waggon & Horses, 33 Higherland, Newcastle-under-Lyme, what can i say about my expirence with this establishment..... my honest experience is that they are the most raciest people i have ever had the misfortune to be in the presence of, i had previously been in to explain that i had anxiety and am autistic and they said it would be fine and not to worry, i felt they had listened and put me at ease of trying a new venue so me and my group of white friends entered the establishment and i was immediately targeted for being mixed raced and was barred, we did not even get a chance to order a drink, to be honest this was the best thing they could have done as i went over the road to the the venue a cross the road and met the most down to earth people i have ever met and made to feel most welcomed, i think me and my friends have now found a new regular

Warm & hearty welcome from the team at the Waggon. Only time for a lunchtime snack today, but the beef sandwiches were lovely and warming on a surprisingly cool day. Many thanks and a possible return to take part in what appeared to be substantial meals being enjoyed by other customers.

Went in for a drink, but made the mistake of asking to use the toilet first. Was told that they weren't meant to let me use the toilet because of COVID. What a jobsworth! Luckily the lovely chap in the nearby tesco express let me use their staff toilet.
