Really disgusting food, nothing nice about this place plus I have a feeling I was overcharged for the pleasure. Used to be really busy every night a few years ago but now dead as can be. I now know why. Avoid

Used this fish and chip shop since conception always enjoyed a very high quality traditional fish and chips been our go to . Paid a visit last night place totally empty should have picked up on that ordered battered sausage and chips times three . Chips tepid sausage abhorrent god knows how long it had been in the warmer it was incredibly dry and void of taste , one of my sons adores sausage in batter and refused to finish it , my other son only ate it because he was so hungry. We came outside looked at each other and made an oath to never return appalling . We only saw one other customer and no takeaway pickups in the whole time we were there think that's a sign .

Great chippy, awesome batter and all freshly made l. Not the cheapest but in this day and age you get what you pay for. Worth the prep time wait!

I got a takeaway fish and chips and when I got home I found that the fish was mainly batter I had to hunt for the fish. This is the worst and most expensive fish and chips I have ever had, I won't be going back.

Sometimes a bit inconsistent but this branch usually good both eat in and takeaway/delivery. Special lunch menu reasonable although price creeping up!

Have been here many times, the cod and chips are fine but the lunch time specials have become excessively priced recently. Small fish & chips now £9.50 and small piece is the word. Some of the staff can hardly understand the order. We watched 5 construction workers take a look and go next door instead, better value for money, owner take note.

My sister who lives in Acton raves about this chippy, mainly everytime she has Fish and chips in the North East when she visits us. Service and Restaurant/Shop- service friendly and Shop very clean. Fish and Chips- Chips okay, could have been a bit more golden (perhaps variety of potatoe). Fish very strange, for cod not very Flakey and very bland tasting, so may have been frozen or another type of fish? (Never had cod like this before!)The Batter is very soft and soggy, no crisp or crunch at all. Curry sauce - your standard chippy type. Mushy peas- Southerners can't make proper Mushy Peas, so very disappointed. Would I recommend-No Would I return-No

Banging venue and staff, cool & courteousness …very cool chef! Watched a Karen trying to teach them how to cook. 🤦‍♂️ best fish in Acton. Highly recommended.

Absolutely 1st class fish and chips we are not local and we're just looking for a quick bite to eat well food was piping hot plastic forks for your food and all the condiments you will need won't hesitate to go back if in area

Basically I was with my children so I order cod and chips; when it’s stone to serve I asked if I can have it on a takeaway box but I wasn’t allowed as I can’t eat with in; Then I agreed , ok it can be served on a plate but if they don’t finish it then I will be given a takeaway box for which the answer was NO. I had to choose one or the other; Is that not weird?? Pls consider children 👦

The food we had was lovely. Service with a smile nothing too much trouble. As the world knows Yorkshire has the best fish and chips to be had this plaice (pun intended) advertises as the only top 10 fish and chip shops in London. They are worthy of the accolade.

I bought lunch for 2 people and both did not like what we had. The fish was tasteless and the chips were very dry. They seemed like they were cooked again or old chips. Not great as we spent £16.00 for 2 portions.

I have been to this place before I think it was call Express fish or something like that Sunday I decided to have Fish and chips. Got there I was alone was not received well I looked at the menu and changed my mind to eat Burger ANGUS with Chips and Coke. Received the Burger over cooked had no character it was DRY and for the price I Paid I was expecting much better cost me £18 and the Coke was was one those small bottles. And a another customer came for takeaway and ordered Savaloy and Chips the person behind the bar TOTALLY handled it with his Bare hands. Overall experience very POOR specially for the PRICE.

With fishing rights such a contentious issue throughout the long Brexit saga, it seemed fitting to order ourselves a fish and chip dinner on New Year’s Eve, just hours before the UK’s transition to being non-members of the EU was complete. A quick search of the Deliveroo app showed Fish X Chips was nearby, who also confusingly go by the name What The Fish, which is how I’ll refer to them for the rest of the review. Ordering via the app was simple and our food arrived, still hot, 30 minutes later. The website for What The Fish does not state the provenance of their fish, however the quality of the haddock was good. White, flavourful flesh is coated in crispy golden batter and a wedge of lemon is provided to squeeze over the fish to add a bit of zing. There was a generous pile of thick cut chips, which were fluffy on the inside but could’ve been crispier on the outside. Vivid green mushy peas had a good texture – not too smooth, not too coarse – and tasted earthy and wholesome. Sachets of salt and pepper are provided gratis, however vinegar and tartare sauce cost extra. The tartare sauce is tasteless so I’d avoid that. Another criticism would be that our identical boxes of food weren’t labelled to indicate which was the cod and which was the haddock, so I had to use my taste buds to tell them apart. I recommend the staff write on the box which type of fish is contained within to avoid this confusion for other customers. Prices were reasonable, coming in at about £16 each, including delivery fee and service fee. To the surprise of many, the UK managed to reach a trade deal with the EU at the eleventh hour, which includes an agreement on fishing rights. The UK will gradually take back control of most of her waters over the next five years, with EU trawlers still allowed to do some fishing in them during this time. The deal seems to have kept both sides happy and hopefully this means there will be little to no negative impact on What The Fish and other chippies like them so they can keep pleasing customers with fabulous fish.

We came here after our visit to the Gunnersbury museum and park.As we had been in the museum most of the afternoon,we were quite hungry!We both had the haddock and chips,mushy peas and a mug of tea.Delicious!Also it was lovely and quiet too!

Have ordered from here quite a number of times, the last being about a month prior, always had positive experience. However ordered via UberEats and - both portions of chips were dry - the £9.50 COD has majorly shrunk, the portion was the same I would expect from the £3 fish and chip lunchtime special. - the portion of onion rings were undercooked. They were inedible they were that raw. - the pie arrived still in its wrapper. The only thing that actually was quality was the curry sauce. Really disappointed in the quality. Hopefully it’s a short term thing...

We ordered via their app, which is easy to use, and 15 minutes later I picked up my order for 4 people. The portions were very generous, everyone enjoyed their food which was crisp and not soggy. I had the plaice which was lovely and no bones. We will reorder from there again and I would highly recommend it!

Después de conducir desde Southampton para cuidar a mis abuelos ancianos, pensé en sorprenderlos con un almuerzo y me encontré con este diamante de un lugar. Aunque no me senté debido a Covid - 19, todo el escenario estaba impecable. El caballero que me atendió fue encantador y en cuestión de minutos tuve mi comida. Al abrir la comida en casa, ¡el tamaño de las porciones era increíble y nada grasoso! Nada más que vibraciones positivas por todas partes, ¡estaba tan sabroso! Mis abuelos estaban encantados. Just finished an excellent Cod and Chips lunch takeaway from here. Quality of both the Cod and Chips was of the highest order. Friendly helpful staff provided excellent service. No hesitation in recommending Fish X Chips on Gunnersbury Lane.

Hice un pedido en línea con deliveroo y resultó que faltaba la mitad del pedido. El restaurante me colgó el teléfono cuando llamé para preguntar por la cerveza que no me habían entregado. Aparentemente no pueden entregarlo, pero están felices de tomar su dinero y tienen cosas en el menú que no tienen intención de proporcionar. La porción de patatas fritas era minúscula y el pescado no estaba bien cocido y empapado. Pagué un precio superior y di una gran propina (por adelantado) para evitar tener que salir y hacer cola, pero a partir de ahora me quedaré con mi encantador chippy local.

Ordenado a través de Deliveroo y fiel a las otras críticas de aquí, fue TERRIBLE. Faltan porciones, porciones MINÚSCULAS de patatas fritas y comida empapada y poco cocida. El servicio al cliente no existía, ¡es seguro decir que no volveremos a realizar pedidos de ellos!

Avoid - stitched us up - we ordered a takeaway and when it arrived it was fish and no chips... we spent 10 quid on fish per person and not a chip available.... 47 quid between us for 3 fish and a burger!!!! You are not the Ivy!! When I called I was totally ignored....

Lunches are wonderful, great, fat, non greasy chips, plenty of it and the fish: thick, big, golden and crunchy, mushy peas. Sauces on the side. Happy to wait every time as you know it's freshly cooked. Saveloy, fish cakes, and Pukka pies. Friendly, professional staff.

Really suprised by the quality of the food as I'd never been to the restaurant before. Freshly cooked fish, crisp and delicate batter and knockout chips! Also they serve IPA on tap, so I couldn't have been happier. Nice staff too. Fill your boots...

Ordered a cod burger with chubby chips and a refreshing rose lemonade. Very good and tasty burger. The portion of chips is big. You’ll get full soon! Also tried buttered mushrooms. Good but a bit too “heavy”. After all a good place.

Tried this place as it's near by as i always go to Crystal Kebab's and wanted to try something different, how wrong was i. Ordered the Angus burger and chips, burger was rancid and the chips were salty on the top and soaked in vinegar at the bottom. Stay away from this place unless you fancy food poisoning for the night.

An excellent venu for lunch if you are visiting the London Transport Depot Museum. There is seating for 20+. The food and service is excellent and they also have a drinks licence.

You feel good just looking through the door, nice and clean, warm and welcoming, been there a few times over the last few months and it's consistently good. Friendly staff, big portions. Very good value for money.

Recently ate here with my family and we were really impressed with the friendly service, choice available and the freshness of the food. Loved the little milk bottles which came with our tea and the biscuits were a nice touch.

Mis amigos y yo visitamos, comimos en montones de patatas fritas, enorme excelentemente preparado, el pescado parecía y estaba buenísimo, pastel era bueno y la salchicha Jumbo también era bueno, en general un gran descubrimiento para nosotros.

I got a takeaway. Fish and chips can be so good but this is awful. The fish wasn't fresh, over cooked, batter not crispy and retaining too much oil, chips nice and thick but not nice even my children didn't eat them. I also got a Pukka pie - not hot, in fact cold in the middle, crust soggy. We threw most of it away. How can a fish and chip shop not know how to buy or cook fish? It makes me realise how good another one is on Pitshanger Lane so I'm going to review that now and give it 5!

Great to have an excellent fish and chips place in the area. I ordered haddock which was perfectly prepared with chips that were very nice indeed. This place is stylish and comfortable but the best is the staff who have a great attitude. We ate in on the lovely wooden tables and found the service to be superb from the cheerful, attentive staff.

We got a takeaway fish, chips and non battered sausage for £9 which was good. The chips were light and fluffy, the fish and sausage were tasty! Would recommend, however the portion sizes weren't as big as you'd hope for!

After placing my order and eagerly waiting 10 minutes I was given the nod. I hopped off my stool to the counter where I was met with the traditional "salt and vinegar?"I watched the lady wrap up the warm goods which I would gleefully take home to my family like an early Christmas present. However, something seemed awry, where was my battered sausage? I asked the kind lady who assured me she hadn't forgotten it. With a big grin she handed me the bag and I welcomed it into my bosom.I returned home and brushed my hand through my wet hair (it was raining), set the "presents" down on the table and unwrapped them. After opening the second parcel I began to think the worst .... there was no battered sausage. I couldn't believe it, I dug around under the chips, she had promised me. Why would she lie?Since that day I have never seen the battered sausage again.

On the way home from visiting family my partner and I suddenly had the urge for some fish and chips.Luckly we pasted this place and decided to stop and take a chance and im so glad that we did as it was very nice.Everything is cooked fresh the portions are very generous will definitely be back!!!!!

This is a fantastic chip shop, the chips are always freshly fried, always piping hot, very crisp, soft fluffy center, Dry and never greasy. Fish freshly fried cooked in frequently changed ground nut oil (peanut). I make considerable detours to pass by on my way home. It's such a treat to find consistently good Fish and Chips in London. I Sometimes call very late 5 minutes before closing, I am still amazed at the Quality and freshness of the Chips. well done

Amazing fish and chips at both the Acton restaurant and Hammersmith restaurant. In the Hammersmith branch there is incredible waitress service and the restaurant is very welcoming.

I've eaten at many a winner of best fish and chips joints and I must say that they're not far off here. The chips aren't the frozen variety and they use clean oil, so you get to taste the potato and not the oil. A very large selection of food available, including seldom seen, but always missed Northern England chip shop favourites, mushy peas, curry sauce etc. The fish was freshly battered and fried, so necessitated a little bit of waiting time (not such a problem when it was just me, but I can see that at busy times you'd have to wait). When the plate finally arrived, it was huge. I was also given the full set of condiments including tartar sauce. Nice. They don't have a licence, but I was allowed to pop next door to our licence and select myself a beer. Double nice.

I call here perhaps 2-3 x per month enroute from the National Archives to Heathrow. The food is good (but not the best fish & chips I've tasted) and it avoids me needing to cook when I arrive home approx 23.00. If the food were not good I'd not be a repeat customer. Service yesterday was awful. In chaos. Arrived 19.04. Order wasn't taken until 19.15. At 19.25 I made it clear that I needed to be at Heathrow for a connection by 20.30. "2 more mins" staff said then later it changed to "only 3 mins" . At 20.36 I said I was unable to wait longer, had to leave. Had I stayed I'd have to gobble down my food hastily. So at 20.36 I left losing my money. To wait longer could mean a missed connection and being stranded in London overnight on a very cold night. Will never use them again. This is a clean, bright, well located and quality establishment. Situated near Acton Town tube station it is popular for both take away and eat in, the eat in area is quite funky with great big wooden benches and trendy light bulbs. The food itself is good and fresh, the burgers are top quality angus beef and cooked to order, there is a wide ranging menu with lots of options. I believe it is open late into the evening so all in all a good find.

A friend who has just moved to Acton took me here for a fish and chips supper to take away. "You've gotta try this J. It's great". He wasn't wrong. The first thing I do when looking for a good chippie is see if they sell kebabs too and whitestone's don't. So things were looking hopeful from the off. I ordered, well no prizes for guessing, fish [cod] and chips for him and haddock, chips & mushy peas for me. The cod was ready but the haddock was cooked to order. All tasted great - nice generous fish portions, the mushy peas were not too mushy (sometimes they can be as if they are finely pureed) and the chips were just as I prefer them - large and chunky.The eat-in looked decent too with tables of planed scaffold boards. Instead of the usual standard chippie/kebab/chicken shop price illuminated board with photoshopped chicken and the like there was a chalk board with the menu written out with all the panache of a Notting Hill gastropub and a buisiness name that sounds like there is a solicitors in the back.I'd certainly recommend this place to anyone who lives nearby and am jealous I don't have one to match on my doorstep. This is how a chip shop should be.
