The only reason I have not given it 5 stars is because I think the prices were a little high for what you get. The staff were undoubtedly professional and friendly, and did everything possible to accommodate for you. The food was exceptional quality, and three courses just about filled us up. The food was certainly quality over quantity, and very well presented, although I'm a bit of a pig so would have personally preferred a little more. I would not recommend this place if you are on a budget, however if you want high quality fine dining, or dining for a special occasion, then it's 5 stars!

We booked a table through Opentable for 11 people on a Friday evening to celebrate my son's birthday. When we arrived, the restaurant only had 2 other tables there, and it was very quiet and subdued. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the tables well laid out. We were immediately given the A la Carte menu and when I told the waiter that we had booked through Opentable, he told me he did not understand and did not know what Opentable was. I asked him to check with his colleagues and asked him again for the Opentable menu which had not been provided to us. Eventually we got the menu but I was really disappointed with the choices available on the set menu and also upset that the staff are not trained well enough to be aware of what menus the restaurant is advertising. If the restaurant had been busy I would have taken this into account, but it was quiet and this restaurant is continuously on the Opentable website so since they remain on the website, they should ensure their staff know what it is. When we finally received the correct menu, some of our party decided that they did not like the options available, so opted for the A la Carte. Generally the food was mediocre, apart from the steak, and 2 of us found the Pulled Pork so salty we decided to leave it. When the plates were being cleared, I told the waiter that it was too salty and that was why we had left it and he told me that I should have told him earlier and did not bother to apologise. I will not return again as the food was not enjoyable and the service was difficult and I was put in an awkward position by the waiter. A very unpleasant and expensive experience.

Business lunch ain't what it used to be. What with California diet, water or cranberry juice and boring companions talking shop. Well, we are old school, so a return to the famous Wheeler's under the guidance of MPW and we can't go wrong. Dozen oysters helped down with large dry white wines, sparing on Tabasco but a little shallot vinegar was a great start. Then the meat, aged and cooked just as ordered. A few chips (well we have to take care of our waist lines) and some greens washed down with a bottle of robust but fairly priced red. Excellent. White table cloth, good service, both of which are frowned on by cost cutting accountants. This is old school and just the ticket. No noisy cool kids with non matching jacket and trousers playing angry birds on their Ifart 6. Fair pricing for quality. Only thing I missed was chance to sample MPW's own IPA. Waiter forgot it was on the drinks list. I guess he only drinks fizzy lager.

We arrived for lunch with friends at noon. The restaurant was not immediately available so we started with champagne in the bar which was pleasant enough. We then went through to the restaurant which as a former bank building was somewhat lacking in atmosphere compared with say the room at Berner's Tavern with its wealth of paintings etc.The oysters were very good for starters, both au nature and Rockefeller. After that everything went south; the main courses took for ever to appear and were ordinary at best and, after the long delay, we didn't get to or want deserts, so all in all a poor experience.

Ten of us went for an evening meal and I had high expectations bearing in mind it is a Marco Pierre White restaurant. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet which gave it a strange feeling as the room has a very high ceiling and with few people it echoes somewhat. The restaurant specialises in oysters and steak and one of my colleagues indeed had the oysters which she felt were excellent. Other than that and steak there are well known Bristish dishes like fish pie, shepherds pie, chicken curry none of which are particularly expensive. The food is well cooked and well presented although, and I can't put my finger on exactly why, I felt surprisingly underwhelmed by the whole experience. Don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the food or service it was just ordinary. And perhaps that's the problem. For a restaurant with such a well known name over the door I expected more and didn't get anything I haven't had at many other average restaurants. Perhaps I ask for too much but sometimes a bit more from a well known chef is needed. Anyway, I'd certainly recommend for anyone wanting reasonably priced, well cooked food and not over concerned about the lack of the wow factor.

Visited for lunch in what was a very quiet restaurant. That excuses the sterile atmosphere which was exacerbated by the high ceilings and hard surfaces - it was very hard to hold a private conversation. I only wanted a single course lunch and tried to order a prawn and mango curry. In an attempt to be healthy I asked for boiled rice and not buttered. I was told I couldn't have this, not because the chef insisted that the extra butter was integral to his dish, but because 'this rice is pre cooked and heated to order'. Seriously?! Even if this is acceptable outside of the pub trade, it only takes ten minutes to make some fresh. And the restaurant was virtually empty. Eventually the waiter changed his mind and decided I could have it, though the message never made it to the kitchen as it never materialised. The meal itself was flat; no better than my local pub - perhaps not surprising if they are jus heating to order. The good thing about the pub though is that it's a third of the price and a nicer place to be too.

The bar and restaurant are lovely and having failed to get in else where on a Wednesday night we were glad that we did. The restaurant is set in a beautiful large room and the food that we ate was sublime.Having been told what was not on the menu I then chose my desired dish to be told it wasn't on either! I get annoyed by ordering at a table of three to be asked five minutes later, "who is having the....." The salt and pepper grinders were both empty, annoying in that we asked for some salt to then have to wait on the waiter returning to ask for pepper. Not that the dishes needed any extra seasoning mind you! The desert wine arrive five minutes after our hot desert and the 2 deserts and coffee saw the coffee arrive a few minutes after the deserts.I'd go back in a heartbeat for the food and in the hope that the services raises its game by then. All three of us commented on it so it wasn't just one persons view.

An American friend of mine was in London and offered me lunch at this venue which neither of us had been to before. In short the venue and food was very good but some other aspects were a little frustrating. Whilst the staff were friendly it seemed if we have had a new recruit in that it took a protracted time to order a coffee, although it was delivered promptly but without sugar so there was another call with the waiter. Still everyone has to learn. What was a little disappointing was when my kedgeree arrived (delicious) there were two long black hairs (8-10cm) also present. One was in the food and the other was on the side of the bowl. I did not bring this to the attention of the staff as my friend was paying and he would hvae been extremely embarassed. However if I had been paying then I certainly would have. In summary it's a good venue that could may be do with reviewing a coupel of points by way of improvement. However I am also aware that I've only been once and so perhaps I was just unlucky.

Great service from waiters and outstanding food!!!! So it was all good until I noticed one of the managers which i found him very hectic going around in and out of the restaurant. I found him extremely unprofessional as he was having hand contact to his face (picking his nose lots of times) It left me absolutely disgusted by him and the fact that he was having contact with the food and others costumers made me realize i was lucky to not have been served by him but it was very sick to see others going through that!!!

We booked for a business lunch and although not changed much from the previous Bonds restaurant style, were pleasantly surprised by the decor, high ceiling, appearance etc. Good start. However everything from then went downhill and rapidly. Long wait to order, water poured and only filled an inch in each glass, dirty/already used cutlery, waiter didn't change cutlery on prompting of this issue, had to ask for bread (then subsequently charged £3 for 3 minuscule slices), poor and inexperienced unfriendly service staff, waiter couldn't speak much English, and our main courses were late by 40 minutes due to a "printer error" in the kitchen, despite chasing twice and being told food would be with us in 2mins - which was followed by another 15min wait. Management made aware of our dissatisfaction but ignored and continued flouncing around looking busy but completely oblivious and only 5 tables to oversee. No chance of getting anyone's attention if it had actually been busy. The food (pan fried cod fillet) was completely tasteless, cheap pub effort with things thrown on plate presumably because the kitchen rushed our extremely late order after us chasing staff for food several times. For an "express menu" this supposedly quick business lunch turned into over 2 hours and no acknowledgement or apology from the staff. Late. Sloppy. Bland food. Weak management and useless service. Won't be returning.

An excellent value Groupon deal for oysters and champagne for 4. We also ordered main courses from the restaurant menu which we had to take in the bar rather than the restaurant as that was the oyster/champagne deal. As the tables could only accommodate dishes for 2 diners, we needed an extra table to eat our mains. The oysters were very good and the champagne well chilled. The fish and seafood pie was tasty and the fish and chips were excellent - moist fish and crispy batter just as it should be. Service was a little slow as the waiter appeared to be new to the job but nevertheless was polite and helpful. Very reasonable menu prices for oysters and champagne and I imagine the bar is quite popular with City workers after business hours.

On recommendation we booked for dinner which was, in hindsight, a mistake. The City of London is not a night place and what must surely be a buzzing and fantastic lunch time venue becomes a morgue at night.Other than hotel guests the restaurant was almost empty thus devoid of any atmosphere. The building is stunning, the bar wonderful and we were served 2 perfect cocktails (martinis). The staff are helpful and friendly.Bread was served quickly, drink orders taken (we had wine by the glass after starting our meal with Champagne) - choices were good. The food was excellent. I had the herring starter with beetroot and goats curd - really good. My husbands prawn cocktail was well up to par. My main was the lobster macaroni which really was superb. The sauce was a fine bisque. My husband had no complaints with his perfectly cooked steak. For lunch I would return many times but dinner is simply out of the question. I assume, but for hotel guests, the restaurant would only open for lunch. As it is it does not open over the weekend.

Peccato

I couldn't have been more wrong. We waiting forever for drinks and had to ask the same woman multiple times for water, for nuts.... for service. No one there seemed to be professional or know how to watch the floor (?!). The sauce tasted of lobster and had plenty of small pieces of lobster flesh. It was topped with a bigger piece of lobster. My companion had the haddock and chips. That looked very good. I couldn't resist having sherry triffle for dessert. That was bigger than I expected. I found it really nice but the custard is more firm like pannacotta. We really enjoyed our lunch here. Will come again.

I had been to this restaurant before MPW took it over. It is a lovely venue, vaulted ceilings, original features. The only change is some new artwork. As it is now being billed as a rib and oyster room, I couldn't see any ribs on the menu, and the waiter informed us that they had no oysters, which wasn't a great start. In fact the waiter started with a long list of what food and wines were not available. The service seemed slightly nervous and was not polished, a bit slow, no side plates, water spilled when it was poured. I started with the panache of calamari and shrimp. This was served on a tiny wooden board, so that when the waiter put it on the table, half of the salad garnish fell off. I don't know what restaurants have against serving food on plates. The food was ok, nothing special, and the portion was quite small. My partner had the baked St Marcellin, which was nice, but came with a tiny serving of bread. I then had the shepherds pie, which was very nice, while my partner went for the fillet steak, which was one of the worst I've ever seen, it looked more like a cheap minute steak from a supermarket. We went here on a special offer of 50% off food. I don't think I'd return, even with a special offer. There are plenty of better places to eat in town. It is a shame that MPW now just sells his name for anything but doesn't follow through with the quality.

Thursday during Easter school holidays so perhaps quieter than you would expect (just over half full). High ceilings create a calm and quiet atmosphere ideal for discussion/chat. A vibrant atmosphere would be difficult to muster. Attentive and professional service although wine list for "by the glass" a little short. Food was superb. Crab bisque to start followed by the Salmon kedgeree then sticky toffee pudding. Not over priced given a City restaurant. Will definitely be back.

I had an appalling breakfast with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs served cold and with the smoked salmon invisible to the naked eye. On complaining, it was reserved, and no better. I guess the breakfast chef (if there is one) must be an incompetent. I was it charged but that is not the point. Breakfast was just plain "bad". No decent fruit compote or dried fruit selection, so the breakfast menu itself Is mediocre at best; but below par for a supposedly 5 star hotel. Dinner was passable with a palatable prawn cocktail and a reasonable Dover sole (though I am not sure when the fish last saw the sea). This restaurant is by no means better than poor so do not mistake the MPW label as promise of fine dining! Cannot be compared to Scott's or Wilton's.

They have done a beautiful job on refurbishing the place. Oysters were fresh and service was good. However the showstopper was the dover sole! A must if you get the chance!

Booked this quite last minute and got a table easily. Friendly staff, greated when arrived, my coat was taken to the cloakroom, all very friendly. The food was lovely, nothing pretenious about it, good honest food and not overly pricey. If I had any critiism it would only be that I had ordered a bottle of white wine and had to ask for my glass to be refilled, not the end of the world! Overall I would recommend.

We reserved a table here through Open Table. With a 50% off deal for sarters and mains. The starters and mains we ordered arrived hot, beautifully presented and flavoursome. The drinks were slow to arrive after ordering and the deserts were a bit messy looking very much like they were an afterthought. When the bill arrived the 50% had not been taken off both the starters and mains. The manager advised the deal was for only one diner. This is not correct and only on return to our hotel to look at the confirmation I received could I prove this.... too late after we have paid the bill...... Please don't offer deals if your not willing to see it through. The restaurant wasn't full so half price bums on seats are better than empty seats. my husband was surprised to see the waiter dish a serving of Colmans mustard onto a plate.... A great ad for Colmans but we would have thought that Marco Pierre White would make his own. Overall we were happy with our meal and service.

I went to this Restaurant (which is actually inside Threadneedles Hotel)in its first week and was impressed. Lovely service, super food (i had an excellent steak and my guest enjoyed her kedgeree), a good wine list, tables well apart. My only niggle was perhaps the restaurant lacks ambience as it is in a very big room with a high ceiling.

Have just spent an evening here with 5 friends celebrating a 50th birthday. The service was very slow. Two of us ordered the Lobster Macaroni and were surprised by the size of the portion and the lack of lobster ! It may have tasted nice but not a dish to order if you are hungry.

First visit after the restaurant had been relaunched as Marco Pierre White so I had high hopes. The room it really beautiful with interesting eye catching artwork, for lunchtime it was busy with a good vibe which is what you want in the city. I ate with a business colleague, 1 sea bass and 1 lobster macaroni which I was a little dubious about. However the Lobster Macaroni was sublime, could not fault it, not too much pasta and enough lobster to feel indulgent...I'm looking forward to return for dinner and to try the menu more fully and the what looked like substantial and varied wine list.Better than I had expected by some distance.

The menu in concise, made up of dishes you know, done very well, and a few pleasent surprises e.g. fish and chips, steak, calamari. The burnt Cambridge Cream (Creme Brulee) was delicious.

Had some oysters and wine. The oysters tasted good and some were really meaty which is nice, one of the issues for me is there were a few slivers in the oyster . The lobster croquetes were crispy and nice flavours , nice to snack on and left me wanting more. The staff were very friendly and attentive to detail, big shout to Christian ( Colombian waiter,) that looked after us .

A typical, excellent English type restaurant with good food, interesting decor and architecture in handy location at end of The Strand. Friendly waiter been there for years.

One of the best dining experiences we've ever had. My husband and I have been very lucky to have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world and Smith and Wollensky has gone straight to the top of that list. We visited December 10th 2024 and upon walking in, it's like being transported to 1920's New York. The decor and ambience is superb. We went as part of our honeymoon celebration and they treated us like royalty. Champagne quickly arrived at our table and every single course of food was utterly outstanding. The balance of flavours and quality of food was totally exquisite. We are still in awe. We can honestly say we were sad to see the night end (which never happens)! Thank you so so so much to all the staff, but especially Kristian for making our visit so special. We are already planning our next trip back, we can't wait! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
