£8.95 for cold donar meat and under cooked chips. Used to be good never again

Just bought a chicken curry and chips from here. The chips are drastically undercooked. They're paler than me and I wear factor 50...... very disappointed. Staff are nice enough but that doesn't mean the food is.

Absolutely disgusting can't believe they can sell a meal as bad as this the fish was so dry it was 80% unedible Thought we would give them ago on our way home what a bad choice tried ringing them to complain to no avail people may say why not take it back wrong time for the hoendous hereford traffic I don't mind paying above normal price as this was but at least give a good meal

Today I had a fish and chips from this place for my lunch. Fish butter was inedible very chewy and hard to bite I gave it to my dog at the end. Worse ever fish and chip I had.

This place has gone down hill. Price is through the roof. Chips are soggy. Fish is dry. Curry sauce is watered down so much it doesn't even stay on your chip.

The fish looks freshly cooked, but it isn't the fish they serve you, over cooked, been sitting a long time, basically £12. For a portion of chips, as the fish was completely dry and inedible.

Fish was dry, batter dry was warmed up from lunch time so we're the chips. Went in the bin.

First time trying food here as we were passing through, 2 large fish & chips - £24! To say I've never had such dry chips in my life is an understatement, as if they'd been sitting all day. The fish did look a good size but it was more batter than fish, and again very hard & dry. We didn't finish our meal & probably wouldn't stop by again in future. You'd expect better quality for the price.

Ordered Donna kebab cost 7.90 got home had half a box of cabbage and dried up meat looked like it had been in the saucepan for hours couldn't eat it apsoloutly discusting why do they think it's OK to serve dried up food

Don't eat the pies. They are left in hot cabinet over night then slowly reheated in the warmer above the chip range which is not best practice due to food being in the dander zone for a long time and not heated. They are visible now through the window.

Way too much batter on stuff, making items appear way bigger. Also, asked for 2 large sauces, charged for them, only to find I was given small pots when I got home. Food was average, better options out there.

Needs improvement. Sadly need to echo the other disappointed reviews here. Came for a quick bite at shortly before closing (maybe not so wise, but c'mon...). Poor chips, over-thick batter on fish that was lacking the lovely sweetness you get in the best chippies. Avoid till the reviews improve...

What can I say, living in Hereford all my life, all I've heard how good this chip shop is. I live the other side of town. Always comes warm, fresh and never disappoints. Would def recommend

Called into Whitecross fish bar only because Batterliciouse was closed and what a bad move that was worst fish& chips I've ever had the fish was grey the batter was soft and spongey and full of grease and biggest part of the chips were welded to the cheap paper they obviously use and £12 ,Batterliciouse absolutely top class and about £4 less they really know how to cook fish& chips !!!

Chips great fresh however they sold me recooked chicken dry shows it was recooked, I was disappointed about because after paying reasonable price for two meals and find out the state of the chicken everyone was disappointed but just put in the bin.

Best kebab in the city & the hot sauce is actually hot 🔥

Cone of chips and a very small single sausage, £4.60. That's the last time I'll be going there.

We decided to stop and get some food as it was on our way out of Hereford, but honestly I wish we hadn't bothered. The chips were anaemic and soggy and the piece of fish I had was terrible - the fish inside was dried up around the edges and looked overcooked and the batter was greasy and so hard you could hardly bite it, which leads me to think it may have been reheated. Considering it cost over £8 just for the piece of fish it was a total rip off. We've had food from here in the past without complaint but based on this I will never go there again.

Unfortunately I went to buy a nice 1 x cod and chip meal, also 1 x fishcake and large mushy peas, total price £16.10. The chips and fishcake were OK, but the mushy peas were sloppy and the supposedly cod was virtually non existent. Not a single good flake of fish, just tiny weany little bits that I had to search for? It was mainly thick batter with a couple of tiny hairbreaths of something trying to resemble the fish that was forgotten. As its 2 miles away from home, we did not want the bother to take it back to complain at 7.45pm on a cold, wet Friday night. No way was it worth half the price and I will not recommend that NOT Cod

Wrong food also bland . Avoid. My first and last order , food was ready on time but it was not what we order . Unfortunately we discover that at home .

Fish was very dry. Didn't enjoy it at all. Will not be returning. Disappointed

Always make the effort to go that bit further ti get meals from here very busy so food fresh

Very expensive and quality needs improvement

Niy sure what to say really. Been using whitecross fish bar as my fsvorite kebab place for years. Visited today and a young lady with bleach blonde hair under a baseball cap served me quite rudely. Charged me £10.85 for a large doner meat and chips when the board says £8.95. I asked for a receipt and she didnt say anything but handed me a receipt saying "misc items 10.85". Not sure if ill return.

Excellent scampi - loads of it! Kebab with meats very tasty - large helping. Disappointed with the chips, not as good as other local ones - prefer them crispier and not soggy.

Average food staff are not friendly unless your a local

Just had the worst and most greasy kebab I've ever had in my life . Wanted a chicken kebab but was told there's a half hour wait , the Mrs and I aren't keen on doner but we thought we would risk sharing one . You know it's greasy when you can see through the paper before you open it . I feel physically sick and the Mrs couldn't eat hers . Well over priced too. I won't be returning

The prices at this place have gone through the roof, whilst the quality has simultaneously gone down. That is a recipe that will end this business.

Disappointing. Haddock was overcooked, mushy and flavourless. Chips were dry and chewy, and not much difference in size between large and small portion. Expensive for average food . And what's with the 50 pence 'service charge' for phoning in?

Thought the steak and kidney pies we're good nice and hot thought the chips we're a bit dry but overall good

Really not impressed, premium prices for poor quality. We eat fish and chips all over Powys and Herefordshire and remembered good fish and chips from here a few years ago. I don’t know if the owner has changed but the prices were considerably more than Ocean Fish bar, The Castle Talgarth and Hay on Wye but the quality was the poorest. How do you make chips that are so fatty they stick to the greaseproof type paper. Fish was also poor quality.

Delicious fish and chips plus kebabs.

We asked for large chips, but when we got them home, it wasn't that big of a portion. However, they were fresh & crispy. The battered sausage & picked egg were good. Friendly staff.

Not sure why the price is so high here?? Mini fish/ chips and small curry sauce, £11.50 Chips were OK but the fish was not nice and didn't taste fresh at all. I've paid ALOT less for nicer fish. I gave 2 stars because of the decent size portion.

Dreadful. I was told this place was worth paying for. A bag of bark and a soggy bog roll served refreshingly cold is how I can best describe battered sausage and chips from here.

I'm just a delivery driver who picks up order's from here. The staff are always friendly. The place always looks clean and the food looks good. Worth a try for anyone wanting a chippy tea

The last two times have been a bit disappointing for me, not horrible but not to my taste. That doesn't mean that they would be the same for others. The price of fish and chips no longer seems value for money despite the generous portion sizes.

THEY HAVE THE BEST FRIES EVER!!! HUUUUGE PORTION! The only thing that i didn’t like was the mediterranean chicken kebab…was not good at all…i hope that they will never discontinue making the fries 🤌

Seems very pricey for what you get. Most of the chips I had were either stuck together or stuck to the paper but this happens in most chip shops. The chicken and fish that others had were ok.

Very poor. Every time I visit the prices have gone up and the quality in the opposite direction. The chips are reasonable, but then they really should be at £4.50 for a large portion. The fish is very disappointing. They just don’t know how to do batter. It is incredibly hard and tough, almost like it’s been dipped in concrete before frying! A lot of the reviews on Trip Adviser comment on these issues, but nothing seems to be done to change these.

Terrible customer service and bland food. Avoid. No salt and vinegar on the order like I’d asked. That’s fine, but when I called up to say they couldn’t be bothered to help. Avoid

luke warm food and batter was like chewing leather. they blamed just eat. but they have them to do the delivery. so they should take full responsibility. not make lame excuses

From out of town so thought it would be ok as it had a queue. Very disappointed the batter was very thick and doughy and rather unpleasant threw most of it away.

Used to live 5 minutes from this chippy and went there 3 nights a week. Quality of the food is still exceptional but damn it is mega expensive for what you get! Will not visit again

Love this place, food alway fresh and tasty. I live to far away to enjoy it at home so I sit in the car park across the road. The food even beats fish & chips from the seaside.

Over £11 for a large fish and chips!!! The fish was large the the chips were definitely a small portion and absolutely tasteless the only thing that saved this mistake was the chip shop curry sauce. Will be sticking to the usual a bit further down the road.

Bought fish and chips the other night and was shocked with how badly over cooked the fish was, the batter was really hard and the fish reduced to a mush. What really amazes me about fish and chips is just how many places can’t cook them, it’s the only thing their cooking so you’d think they’d get it somewhere close to properly cooked!!

Save your money and your stomach is all I can say. Worst food in the Western hemisphere.

I haven’t been here for a while due to the drop in quality seemingly after the owner sadly passed away. Well I returned today… The prices have once again increased, (even the packaging for the food now has it’s own price) with that I expect the food to be at least hot. It wasn’t. Chips were old and tasteless. Serious improvement is needed at this place. I won’t be returning anytime soon…

We picked up fish & chips x2 on the way home. After a 5 minute journey we opened the wrappers to a congealed greasy mush. The majority of the meals were stuck to the paper and what we could get loose wasn’t fit for human consumption.

I have used Whitecross fish for a very long time and not just because of covid I feel the quality has gone and quantity right down.. The order I had a few days ago was very disappointing.

Ordered a small and large fish as looked nice in the display cabinet but when my wife got back in the car I could smell like the fish had gone off and when got home we served them and they must have been standing in the display for some time as they were dried up and didn’t smell to good please sort this out it’s not the first time it’s abit expensive to through away

Good food but the staff member that served me was very rude and condescending.

Good meal with drink for a fair price. Popped in at lunchtime. Sausage, chips and a can for less than £5. Kept me going for the rest of the day. Clean, following rules. Staff member polite.

Average food, quite expensive, topped off with miserable unfriendly staff ! I call in from time to time as it’s on my route hoping these issues improve. But they never do ! Plenty of better chipshops in the area with a much better attitude. It’s as if it’s a chore for them to serve you. Plenty of friends n family i have spoken to have received the same experience, and we all agree to go elsewhere. Service with a smile, or even a ‘hello’ on entry sometimes can make up for bland food. But a blank stare or dirty look seems the norn here.

Staff are nice and friendly, it's very clean and smells lovely. Was really looking forward to a nice dinner. Ordered Haddock & Chips, the fish was cooked fresh to order and was huge! Well priced too. Unfortunately, the fish smelled and tasted like ammonia, so clearly wasn't fresh. Half of the chips weren't cooked through either. Only had 1 bite of fish and a handful of chips. Really unpleasant experience from a place that looked very promising and well rated. Hopefully it was just a one off.

Checked in Google several times open hours. And what a surprise! at 4:16pm... they are closed. Change the information please, so that people do not lose their time. As for the menu, I can’t say anything, because they are closed
