The title is uninspiring I know. How wonderful the food was. Chips excellent, kebab very tasty, the salad was the best .First time I ever called there, I will be back and spreading the word.

Called in on the way back from fishing with a mate in the Elan valley. The saying goes that if you’re hungry you will eat anything, sadly I can’t agree with that after ordering Cod and Chips here! Expensive, undercooked fish and some pretty unpleasant chips. Perhaps the customer facing staff should receive some training to at least make customers feel welcome and valued. I will make sure in future that the Ledbury mop fair isn’t in town so I can call in to my usual fish and chip shop in Ledbury where the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is actually edible.

We had a fish and chips takeaway meal from here on Saturday night, and I can say that it was one of the best ones I've eaten for a very long time! The fish was perfectly cooked and tasted nice and fresh. We also had mushy peas and curry sauce, which were also good. Thank you!

Absolutely lovely, cash only but not a problem! Great service! Nice portion sizes, only had 3 lots of fish & chips with extras, thoroughly enjoyed it! Definitely recommend it!

Stopped for food on a long drive home and had some the best chips we've ever had. Reasonable prices and fast service. I suspect we'll be taking this route again.

Very good chips with a good range to choose from. The Angel Fish Bar seems to focus on fresh kebabs and burgers. The burgers appeared to be the normal price and kebabs seemed to be quite costly, but the quality is probably high which would explain it. Portion-wise for large chips was good and the chips were very good. Hot with a nice crunch and soft in the centre. The sausages were a good size and seemed pretty cheap for what we got, £2 each in May 2024. The Angel Fish Bar had no scampi, but did have cod and haddock. Their is no wheelchair access and on-road parking is limited. Their is no car park for Angel Fish Bar customers. Good batter on the fish, even with a take away - some crunchy bits were still there. Chips were mostly soft but some crunchy ones in there too. Great portion sizes. Friendly staff.

Super expensive,.. not worth the money because the food is moderate people only go their because there's no other chippy in Kington..... Someone needs to open a fast food outlet in Kington and run them out of business

Normally can't fault this chippy. We've always had great food especially the chips. But tonight unfortunately they were absolutely vile. Felt like they had been hanging around for hours (dry as a bone) I do hope this is won't happen again, otherwise Im sorry but we won't be back. Sorry but if people didn't point out these problems then you can't rectify them. Let's hope it was just an off night.!!

Good service , can be very busy at times . Cash only now , they had problems with their Card Machine provider- upped the commission on payments taken !. Nice fish , chips are good too . Good value portions for money .

Greatest fish and chips in the country

Poor, bordering on rude service, particularly by one of the female staff. Food is satisfactory - no better or worse than other chippies in nearby Leominster and Hereford but the recent astronomic hike in prices (20% higher than in some other chip shops) and the added inconvenience of a seemingly constantly, broken, card payment machine means we will now be taking our custom elsewhere. A shame, as this used to be a friendly, value for money establishment that we have used numerous times over the last 20 years.

This is hands down the BEST fish and chips we have had in a loooong time :) propper chips, good pies, nots soggy and stodgy. Looking forward to trying kebabs and burgers next time :)

Hands down THE BEST chips i have had for years!! The pies were fresh tasting and as they should be, not stodgy and soggy. The pasty was good too.. I cannot wait to try the kebabs and burgers. We will be back!

This is the most expensive chip shop I have ever known it would of been cheaper to drive to Hereford service was very slow took nearly 25 mins just to simple sausage and chips will never use again

Best chip shop for miles. Sadly they are now becoming very expensive for a chippy tea.

Great chips etc even take cards on orders over a tenner

All good is excellent except the battered fish. Batter too thick and claggy. Needs to be thinner or cooked for longer? Always soggy by the time it gets home unfortunately.

Food is consistently good. Service is very professional and friendly.

Nice food but got my kebab order wrong on both kebabs. One mistake is acceptable but two is one too many on the same order.

I visit this approximately once a week when visiting my mother it’s our treat! I’m ‘in the trade’ myself - and I really rate it! The chips are always to die for, the salad is lush they use a cabbage mix which is almost like sauerkraut - refreshing and so good! The kebabs are always beautifully presented - fresh well cooked chicken! Add friendly staff and the fact I never seem to have to wait more than 20 minutes for the food plus they’re allergies busy! Winner!!

Salad is an essential part of a kebab. As we live a few miles away, I ask for seperate salad (we need to microwave the kebabs when I get them home and microwaved salad is nasty) I requested seperate salad (as I have done regularly in the past) and assistant showed me a small polythene box saying "We will fill this for the two kebabs" I realised I was being charged £5 for this, and declined. When I got home kebebs had NO salad at all. Great way to loose a regular customer.

My family have been frequently eating the food here, it is the best takeaway that we’ve ever had, especially the battered sausage and chips, I’d highly recommend those!! Absolutely incredible choice aswell! The people working there are also very friendly too!

Never fails to deliver good quality food.

I moved here from the forest of Dean and although its abit more expensive, it's well worth it. Everytime freshly cooked and the garlic mayo is bang on (most important thing at a chippy and they put abit of mint in that cuts through the lovely tender %100 grass fed welsh lamb 🤫 Highly recommend

We are a group of 13 people staying at a local holiday let in the area. Nine of us wanted fish and chips. I ordered ahead on the phone, everything was cooked completely fresh and was packed up piping hot as soon as I put my head in the door. Every single person enjoyed their chips, sausages, pies and fish and nobody left a scrap. The staff were lovely, including the guy on the phone who took the order and the lovely lady with blonde hair that packed it. All of us here would highly recommend. As a side note, opposite the Angel Fish Bar is The Taj Mahal. The remainder of us ordered from there and it was lovely. There are a few parking spaces on the street near both.

As this is the only chip shop in Kington there is no other choice. A little on the expensive side with chips at £3.50 I had a pie and it must have been in the microwave for 10min as when I came to eat it, it was like cardboard, I think next time I will have a Chinese.

Surprisingly good fish and chips, although doner meat from the same place was grisly to the point of being discarded.

Wish they would drain the chips before putting them in a box 😔 Twice now ive been in and the chip have comes out of the fryer straight into a takeaway box! Portions unfortunately are very sporadic depending on who is serving and unfortunately its not value for money anymore 😩

If you eat your food straight away its ok but if you have a 10 min drive home dont bother as your chips will be rock hard. Very expensive compared to near by businesses of similar fare in Presteigne and Knighton.

After a long walk from Hay-on-Wye (Offa's Dyke walk), a tray of fish and chips for me and sausage, chips, peas and gravy for my wife, really hit the target. Tasted lovely, well recommended 😋😋😋

Prices are now extortionate, appreciate costs go up but £25.60 for 1 small chicken kebab, 1 large chicken kebab, 2 sausages and 1 portion of chips is very very over priced. Will not be going back due to price. Lady serving could do with being more friendly rather than a blank look and lack of basic manners.

Always takes a while here as they never seem to have any food cooked which makes a quick dash to the chippy a 40 minute ordeal.... This evening I was served by an exceptionally rude woman who rolled her eye and tutted when I was choosing what to have, she was shouting at the other staff and rolled her eyes at other customers and even refused to serve another customer with a disability becuase they had a mask exemption so weren't allowed in.

Seems to be a cook to order regime now. Have been a customer of this place for over 10 years but will never go back. I was met with an extremely rude individual who could not hear me over my mask but instead of ‘I’m sorry, I can’t hear you’ I just had I CANT HEAR YOU screeched at me. I then waited 40 minutes for fish and chips only to be told they’d miscalculated the number of fish to order and I would have to wait again. 40 minutes, what an absolute shower! In addition I stood there and waited while all the ‘regulars’ were served first! I never ever do reviews but this experience was absolutely appallingly. Why would anyone go back for this?

Great kebabs, come here when visiting my mum, as her regular, always spot on and great staff, highly recommend.

Staff struggled to understand me could be due to my mask but I have noticed in the past I have had to repeat myself multiple times both myself and my wife felt that the chips were very greasy and tasted as though the oil needed changing and our battered sausages could have been literally battered with a stick as they were rather mangled on the plus side our son really enjoyed it and his fish and chips were the largest child's portion I think I have ever seen.

Queueing system during this covid total mess no system in place. Chaos. Pre ordered battered sausage and chips x2 and a small curry , wasn't ready had to wait 5 minutes. Handed over a £20 note was given a tenner note as change , think i was hugely over charged. No receipt offered. Had stomach ache for 2 days afterwards even though the large portion of chips.and.battered sausage tasted nice.

Lovely fish and chip shop with a large menu including kebabs and burgers. Been going here all my life and never known a better one for quality, quantity and price. Highly recommend.

Normal order for me, lamb meat and chips, garlic Mayo with NO salad. My order was covered in salad underneath the garlic Mayo and when mentioned that I ordered with no salad was adamant I ordered with. I didn't realise I didn’t know my own order. She then took it away whilst mumbling under her breath. I thought all was well when I got home and started to plate up I could see it was half an attempt at removing the salad and most of it remained hidden underneath the Mayo. I will definitely be looking at other local options for somewhere that listens to your order and if they do get it wrong rectifies it.

Kebabs are very good. Chios are usually nice and crispy however this time they were soggy like they were yesterdays. Expensive.

The fish is the best I have had with a lovely light batter. The chips are yummy. Came a 2nd time during my stay nearby and had a burger with cheese and salad and I must say the burger was superb. Soft, moist and very tasty. By far the best fish and chip shop I have visited. They do kebabs and all the usual things you would expect. Lovely and clean shop. Well done.

Came kington for a break, VERY glad i came across this shop, lamb shish was cooked perfectly and i recommended the Mexican chicken with chilli.

Well I have to say after sitting in (only a couple of tables as mainly a takeaway). Probably the best Fish I have had from a chippy. The batter was light and the fish was a large size and extremely good tasting. They do kebabs and a whole host of things and all at a very good price. Call in and try it, you won’t be disappointed

We pre ordered to collect on Friday night for 23 of us. The owner was amazing from start to finish. Everything was ready for the time we asked, all put in bags for each family. The food was all amazing, especially the fish. Many thanks for being so helpful it was a brilliant start to our party weekend

We where staying in a local village and tgis wqs the closest takout. We where not disappointed .... Wll food cooked to order, fish and chips where outstanding! Nothing more i can really say.

I would walk 500 miles i would walk 500 more , if you could get a Black Puding supper thats all thats missing then agin am Scottish no i dont want a deep fryed Mars Bar may be a speshall Fish supper but thats Scottish as well loll good clean refurbished Chippy ie think the guys own the 2 Chippys in Kington now Both good .

Fabulous food and very entertaining service...

Fish and Chip reviews can be subjective as everyone has a favourite trait but I don’t anyone who likes soggy batter, especially to the point where you could squeeze the grease out of it like a wet piece of kitchen towel. And the chips were poor. I couldn’t recommend one thing from the five things we ordered.

Use this place quite often. Find it consistently good. Portions are generous and I haven’t had any complaints at all.

Went to thos fish and chip shop for my takeaway fish and chips last night. A superb fish that was huge and beautifully cooked. The chips were great as well. Extensive menu at reasonable prices. They also have a couple if tables for a sit down meal. Service is excellent.

Stay at the YHA in Kington every year and always have fish and chips from here. Best fish and chips outside of Grimsby. My

Sorry but only go here when very hungry and too tired to cook at home. The most inconsistent chip shop around. Very sad as used to be superb. Staff do not understand what you ask for and the chips vary from good to inedible depending on the time of day. Such a shame as a great family owned business has let standards slip to this level.

we travel to this fish shop regularly As the fish is the best for Herefordshire. Yes its mostly cooked to order and is a good size and moist and tasty. it does get busy as its the only fish shop which is open in the Kington. We travel most weeks 30 miles for it fare.

Went in just around 9.15pm - long before their advertised closing time. All they had left was one medium portion of chips. Not impressed. However, I will say they they were good, tasty ones. So a mixed review.

The best fish and chips and vfm in a 130 square mile area where there are at least 6 other chippies. Indeed it's better than in many other parts of the country.

The decent sized and clean fish and chip is handily placed in the town centre. When I ordered there was a steady turn over if customers and five staff to serve them. Two pounds is the most I've ever paid for a medium portion of chips as too, the £2.50 for a spring roll....but.......both were of good size, well cooked and tasty. A decent, clean and well decorated outlet.

Saturday night chippy dinner for 12. Not easy to cope with. All the food tasted fresh and nobody was diaappointed. Particularly, the chips were lovley and crisp.

we visited the angel fish bar a few times during our stay so had a few different meals from there. we found it to be very busy at times but you did not have to wait ages to be served. the staff were very friendly. and the food was plentiful and cooked well. we enjoyed our meals from there which is why we kept going back.

Convenient for your fish and chip supper....Good to be able also to sit down and not feel rushed.

The chicken kebab with hot chilli sauce is a fantastic meal. It's prepared freshly to order so allow twenty minutes

Eight of us enjoyed a very tasty take-away on Friday. Friendly helpful staff, very clean premises. Delicious fish and chips, very generous portions. Can thoroughly recommend the Angel!

Wasn't hungry but the smell was intoxicating. Got some chips and gravy the chips were perfect and one of the best curry sauces I have had. Lovely service too.
