Enjoyed a Sunday roast….. Offered a Good choice of meats or fish & chips. Piping hot food freshly cooked & plentiful carved choice of one or 2 sorts of meat. A Small or regular portion is available at a very good price. Followed by a varied selection of desserts which are a very generous portion. Lovely friendly service in a traditional public house setting. Would recommend without hesitation.

Excellent value as ever. The quirky but excellent Wheelhouse is long gone and the Hume Arms shut down, presumably forever. The Swan was always good value and remains so. The large fish was imeed large and very fresh with excellent batter. We are planning a return visit.

We have visited several time and had some great meals. However, not so this time. Other half had pork and leek in cider sauce with mash which was below the standard previously experienced, mash was taste less pork was thinly sliced and it came with garden peas no other veg. I had pie which was great as usual. Limited menu since lock down lifted.

We really must thank Julie, Paul and all the team for the excellent service they have been providing during the "lock-down". Having been closed down because of the latest pandemic, the family decided to start a takeaway service to people, mostly of the older age group, in the village of Torksey. Sunday lunch - our third now, was really delicious. We ordered roast beef, which came with Yorkshire Pudding, roast and mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans and cabbage with a container of piping hot gravy. The plates were so hot, as was the food which was served on a dinner plate and covered with foil. They leave it on the door step, ring the bell and go - no contact made at all. They are so very much appreciated.

1.45 pm Saturday lunch , travelling to Skegness, 7 children 14 yo 7 year old 4 adults , first we asked if there was a table for 11 the young man said I’ll see there was only one table being used in family room . We looked at the menu nothing over appealing for a quick snack we asked if there was sandwich’s he said only cheese , so most don’t like cheese we ended up with 3 cheese 6 lots of chips not what we was looking for . Well the cheese and tomato came end of tomatoes on, toastie loaf bread cut in half like a builders butty no garnish not even presented nicely . Frozen tasteless cooked chips . No choice, no pride put into food . And the Gin & tonic was put into a glass that favoured it come out of the bathroom. Not a place you would visit again . Waste of £37 .

We only decided to visit here for tea because the pub further down wasn't serving food. Upon entering the White Swan I felt atmosphere to be dismal, dark and dingy. I noticed straight away the flies flying around. To be honest, we should have turned around then and walked out . . After sitting for a while and scanning the menu which was limited and basic I decided upon having Scampi and my friend having Lasagne. We had quite a wait for the food but it was expected as everything is cooked fresh. Our food was good portion sizes and definitely value for money. I did notice my scampi to be quite pale but didn't complain as it was hot on the inside ( I do prefer my scampi crispy) My friend had to return her lasagna has it was cold in the middle . . The staff member was horrified by this and quickly arranged for another portion. She also didn't not charge us for the additional garlic bread and onion rings. I knew as soon as I walked out the door that I wouldn't return. My decision to definitely never to return again was reinforced when I was severely sick later that evening.

Lived in Torksey for 18 months and have eaten in the White Swan on many occasions. The food is excellent. The homemade meat pie is one of the best pub pies I have ever eaten and the Sunday Lunch is excellent and really good value for money. We can't believe how much you get. In fact, all the food we have tried has been excellent. Julie, Paul, Neil and all the staff are really friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. We have been there as a couple, with family and with friends and everyone has commented on how good the food is. My mother ate there at the age of 88 and could not believe how good the food was. You may have to wait a little but this is because all the meals are cooked to order and are therefore fresh and hot. There is variety on the menu so everyone should be able to find something to suit - I can especially recommend the extra large battered haddock - along with the meals already mentioned. Even the sandwiches - something as simple as that are excellent - and really well presented. This is a pub I would recommend to anyone - and unlike a review I have just read - there is an atmosphere and it is not just for the 75+!! Highly recommended! On price below I have selected cheap eats - this is because the excellent quality of food is inexpensive and - as I have already stated - really good value for money.

Reading some of the previous comments on here it seems it's all been said. The White Swan doesn't look much from the outside and inside isn't any better but what made our visit special was the friendliness of the staff and customers who I expect were locals. Oh, and the food.We were visiting our daughter who has a bolt hole in the area ( handy for escaping city life with the children at weekends ) and when she said she'd booked a table for dinner at the White Swan I must admit my wife and I were dreading it but what a surprise. We had sirloin steak, a mixed grill, beef pie, something else I can't remember and for our granddaughter chicken nuggets and chips ( do kids eat anything else these days? ). The quality was very good, the portions were huge and the service was excellent. All that came to a touch over £50, what a bargain. We were told the pub has regular charity fundraising nights and one was in full swing when we arrived. There was a band playing on the back of a truck in the car park, face painting, book sale and, for those that didn't want to eat in the pub, a burger/hot dog stand. So, a small, very down to earth, rough round the edges, tatty looking, dog friendly place that many would just drive past. I'm so glad we went and we'll definitely back.

We decided to visit Torksey Lock and before we knew it, it was lunch time. We asked the Lock Keeper where was a good place to eat at reasonable prices, he said the White Swan across the road. The only problem was we had the dog and we did wonder if they would let us in, on the plus side the weather was very good and we could always sit outside. The pub is only a 2 minute walk away from the Lock, whilst my wife waited outside with the dog I popped in to enquire if we could bring the dog in. I was met by a friendly member of staff, who kindly informed us they were pet friendly. We sat in the main bar it was really nice and cosy and the real fire alight, we ordered drinks and sat down at the table. The Barman get the menus and was bringing them over when I said no need to bother with them as we knew what we wanted. The Lock Keeper recommended Home made Steak Pie and chips, and the order was placed. When the food arrived I was really happy as everything apart from the Peas was indeed home made. I have not had real home chips in years and they were delicious, the Pie was very hot the meat was extremely tender and the Pastry was excellent. It made a change also to have garden peas cooked properly and were edible, the portion sizes were really good. Will be returning it was really good value for money too, if you are ever in the area it is a must if you want something to eat.

For meat and fish The White Swan at Torksey Lock, Torksey, Lincolnshire, has become something of a local attraction and also a key stopping off spot for boaters and caravanners. A genuinely family run pub, the locals and visitors to the area are frequently delighted by the real ale on offer. The landlord really understands how to cook meat and fish. It is not food done for photography, just good fresh home cooked (i.e. on the premises from scratch). Expect meats which have been cooked to ultimate tenderness, in rich gravy, and fish which has not been cooked to death, served with home cut freshly fried chips (not 'fries' taken out of the freezer). In the winter there is always a homely real fire on the go. Dogs are very welcome, as are children. There is a teenager friendly pool room too!
