Great food. Friendly staff. Quick service and clean loos. All round absolute banger of a place. Last minute booking was happily accepted too. 😀

It's a lovely place to pop into on your way home.

In a word - appalling. Intimidating clientelle and a bar manager who encourages bullying. As a person with ASD I am far too scared to describe my experience for fear of reprisals. Do not visit this pub if you want a friendly welcome from either customers or staff. Awful and traumatising.

Went to a private birthday party fabulous place for it quite full because England were playing and won on penalties I'd recommend this pub for their function room can't ask anymore very friendly staff.

Not a ‘gastro pub’ with locally sourced ingredients as claimed. Little available on the menu, no vegetarians options (although a custom non-menu choice was offered instead). Ended up with waterlogged, pre-battered frozen fish, rubbish-y chips and an incorrect serving of mushy peas. Server was friendly and my drink was nice & fizzy. Building needs some TLC.

The best Sunday carvery we've ever had! Even though it was 4pm on Mothers Day, the food was all beautifully cooked, plentiful and authentically home made. Puddings were exceptional with delicious specials such as sherry trifle and pear crumble. Staff were warm and friendly and so was the room. Can't wait to return.

How nice to have the chef come and talk to me after I enquired about vegan options. He produced one of the best all day breakfasts I’ve had and was genuinely pleased that I had enjoyed it. Will go again

We went for dinner tonight to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The menu was minimal compared to the one offered on the website, and there the problems began. I had the soup of the day (tomato and vegetable) for starters, hubby was saving himself for a tasty desert. The soup was fabulous, piping hot, full of veg and served with baguette and butter. Foolishly I thought this bode well for the remainder of our visit. Sadly I was mistaken. We both opted for the Turkey and ham pie from the specials board. I asked what it came with and was told chunky chips or salad. My husband ordered it with the chips and I asked for the salad. When it arrived, each plate had a huge slab of pie, with an overcooked top crust and under cooked pastry on the side and bottom. My husband’s plate also contained peas, chunky chips that were nearer black than brown and the whole thing was sitting in a thick brown gravy, presumably to try and disguise the fact that the the cubes of ham near the cut edge of the pie had dried out. My plate contained the pie and a large cos lettuce leaf with a lot of finely diced cucumber and peppers in it. Unfortunately it also had peas and once again the whole lot were sat in a large pool of thick brown gravy - yes, even the lettuce! We struggled our way through it (leaving 90% of the pastry). The came my husband’s favourite part of any birthday meal - the dessert. Well, it should have done but when I asked the waitress for the dessert menu she said that the kitchen was closed. I pointed out that the menu she had given us said they served food up until 8.00 and it was only 7.20; she informed me that as they weren’t very busy they had shut the kitchen. I asked for the bill and to add insult to injury she tried to charge us for steak and ale pies, £3 extra per main course than stated on the menu. Overall a huge disappointment. We certainly won’t be going back anytime soon!!!

Great place for roast dinner carvery. Amazing quality food, all super fresh and hot. Friendly staff.

We came here for a festive meal on the 16th of December there were no sprouts and no parsnips or pigs in blankets it was just layers of turkey on top of roast potatoes and cabbage definitely not a Christmas menu and for pudding the smallest piece of Christmas pudding I've ever seen waitress had no idea what she was doing never going back here again

This is my second solo carvery here in the last 4 weeks! I’ve not been disappointed either time, wonderful food, wonderful friendly and accommodating service! Also worth mentioning the turkey was the best I’ve ever had! I’ll be back very very soon!

We've been here quite a few times over the last year or so and have been pleased with the food and service every time. They are very friendly and attentive ( without being too "in your face"). I can recommend this place as being friendly and reasonably priced . Lovely food too!

Been a while since I visited here.. was here for a "surprise" 50th birthday celebration, made to feel very welcome, loved the jokey banter with the lady behind the bar and the regulars/locals. Will be back again soon 😊

Went for a club meeting so we sat in a clean and tidy function room. Staff very smiley, friendly, courteous and helpful 👍super selection of classic tunes playing not too loud in bar and lounge area Great drinks, great prices

Family Sunday carvery, plenty to chose from and good portions, only one bad point, the Yorkshire pudding was over cooked and l couldn't eat it, my sisters was undercooked and doughy. I would still go again next time I'm up in Lincoln

Came here as a group of 6 and had already booked a table and were quickly seated at our table. The food area was very clean and smelt amazing. There was a range of 5 meats to choose from with a regular carvery containing 2 meats, and a large containing 4. The meat carver Colin was a fantastic man and the portion sizes were very generous. Once again there was a range of vegetables considering the size of the establishment. BIG UP COLIN GIVE HIM A PAYRISE!!! all ended up in a food coma! Make sure you tell Colin he’s doing a fantastic job. Thank you all

FANTASTIC! Cottage Pie! I ordered the Thursday special Cottage Pie, which was home made by Colin and absolutely Amazing! 5 stars all the way! ☆☆☆☆☆ They also do an Amazing Steak Pie! ☆☆☆☆☆ And the best Prawn Cocktail I've ever had!☆☆☆☆☆ There is always plenty of fresh vegetables on the plate, which is nice to see! and you don't mind paying for a decent amount of food that fills you up. They always gave me extra gravy when I ask for it, as I have a problem swallowing. The service from our lovely waitress was excellent. Two last little comments, one the music is always a little loud! I struggled to hear my friend properly in the restaurant! Second and most important please Colin, could the new chef: make sure the plates! and food! are piping hot!!!" before leaving the kitchen! We both had to return our food to be reheated. Apart from that though it was yummy! Great value for money, nice and clean, and you could tell it was home made tasty food! Not frozen! And just pinged in a microwave! I would of taken a picture to add to the review, but it looked so tasty I couldn't wait to eat it up. Best Cottage Pie I've ever tasted in a pub! Well done Stags Head. One of our regular places for home cooked food reasonable priced food, great friendly service.

It was an enjoyable carvery meal. The beef was cooked to perfection, it just melted in your mouth. There was a good selection of vegetables. The broccoli was overcooked and watery but the rest was fine. The dessert was OK. I had apple crumble and ice cream which was a little stodgy and we had to wait a long after the main meal before we received it. On the whole we enjoyed the meal and it was reasonably priced. I would certainly go back again.

Very friendly staff, attentive. I went alone and was made to feel very welcome and will definitely visit again. Prices are really good too. Kids are welcome and wheelchairs are able to access bar with ease.

This was an unplanned Sunday dinner so hadn't booked yet we didn't arrive until 3pm thought we'd be OK for a table...haha, it was packed. But the lovely friendly approachable staff at the bar managed to get us a table for 2. On a Sunday its only carvery being served and we were not disappointed. The choices of meet were great. The vegetables were lovely and replenished frequently. Plus piping hot which I absolute love. The service from the waiting staff was excellent and always with a smile. Well worth every penny spent and most definitely be returning. However probably better to book next time, just to ensure a table.

We have just had a party at the aStags Head and Lindsay and her team did us proud. The function room above the bar was perfect for the 60 people we had as quests. The buffet they supplied was brilliant and the service overall was First Class. We will definitely use them again. Thanks Lindsay and also as special mention to Daisy who did such a brilliant job running the bar. Our next party there is already booked 😁

I love a carvery and usually, they are pretty much the same wherever you go. Not here! The meat options were excellent and cooked to perfection, theres a great range of seasonal fresh veg and a pleasant area in which to eat. However, the real difference in this pub carvery is the staff. Every single member of staff we spoke to, from the young lady collecting glasses, to the waiting staff, the bar team and the chef on the carvery was positive, upbeat, friendly and helpful. Honestly, it was as if we were everyones best friend. The joy in the staff just rubs off and even though the meal was superb, had it not been, I feel we may have just laughed it off. I work in hospitality and OMG I would happily poach this entire team for my business.

Carvery good but food not hot enough

Met up with friends for an evening meal and wanted to go somewhere different for us. Really friendly staff and nice tasty meals. Pics show a Cottage Pie with liver and onions in the background then Apple & Rhubarb Crumble (specials board) I joked about extra custard and along came an extra jug of it ! But it wasn't needed, as the crumble was floating in enough of a sea of it. Didn't waste it though LOL All delicious and defiantly enough There was a nice friendly atmosphere in the bar too.

Went for the carvery on Mother’s Day. Fantastic value, ALL the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Accommodated my daughter who turned up as a late addition and honestly couldn’t have been more helpful. Food was delicious and the chef serving the meats was a jolly, delightful character- a breath of fresh air. I also received daffodils on leaving which was a lovely touch. Front of house staff really smiley and pleasant too. Will definitely go again!

We had our gender reveal at the Stage Head on 18th March with 45 closest friends and family. We liaised with Lyndsay and used the function room and had a buffet. Everything ran smoothly - nothing was too much trouble, from me requesting additional table cloths to the allergies on the buffet, everything was covered so carefully. We had an amazing afternoon and will definitely be thinking of the Stags Head for future events! Thank you to the whole team for such a special day of welcoming the coming of our daughter!

Went to the Stags Head on 5th March 2023 for Sunday lunch booked a table for 9 if us to celebrate my Grandaughters 18th Birthday. The food was lovely and cooked to a high standard nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff from start to finish they were all very friendly and polite. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you all.

We had a family 80th birthday party today, the staff and owner could not have been more helpful in finding us a table that was suitable for us. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the service was brilliant, we were well looked after by all. We took a cake with us which was kept in the fridge until we had finished our meal, and then it was sliced and served by a member of staff at our table. Everyone made us feel welcome, we would certainly recommend this very friendly local pub/restaurant. Many thanks again. We will see you again very soon.

Been to The Stags Head today for Sunday lunch. It was a carvery and we were very impressed. There was a good choice of meats and vegetables. The chef was friendly and had a good banter with us! The staff were all polite and helpful. Very well priced. Look forward to visiting again. 🙂

We stopped for a couple of drinks and lunch which we ate in the bar. Bar and welcome were warm and the food was good. Decor a little tired, but spotlessly clean.’it was quite busy and it was nice to have atmosphere provided by people talking rather than relying on music.

From first entering the time we spent was very good we were meted and greeted with a nice smile and pleasant staff although we were at a private party the service was really very good

The only reason why I am giving this place a 2 star is because the staff wasn't very helpful, drinks and food order was wrong for two people, accused of not paying for meals, awful staff behaviour, no apology given, will not be returning.

Came with my husband and children and was pleasantly surprised what a cosy pub it is, hubby said the toilets were the cleanest mens toilets he's ever seen in a pub. Waitress Shannon i believe her name is was very polite and helpful and the blonde bar lady was very chatty and welcoming. Food was lovely I had the steak and ale pie the pastry was amazing and plenty of filling. Hubby had mixed grill and was cooked to perfection. Kids portions were very good. Overall very satisfied and will return again very soon.

Not sure what has happened here as had some very nice meals in the past but granted we haven’t been for a while. The menu online is what I remember from our previous visits but no resemblance of this now. Menu is on dirty, old and crumpled A4 paper on a clipboard and extremely limited and basic. Haven’t got a problem with a basic menu but the food was not good for such a small selections. None of us enjoyed our Food. We had starters and mains but did not bother with desert which is out of character for us.

Newport...New management...new Sunday Carvery venue for me!! If you want a Sunday plate that will slow you down faster than a hay maker from Tyson Fury then this is the place. Beautiful, well cooked, succulent meats teamed with classic Sunday dinner veg (including cauliflower cheese..😋), real, crispy roasties and home style gravy...friendly staff, great beers (Neck Oil IPA?! Need I say more🍺) And considering the location, just off the Bail - £not quite 12quid is real value for money- incidentally the picture is a STANDARD Carvery....you can upgrade to a LARGE!?! Quite simply well worth the visit. .Stags Head - my stomach salutes you...just need to find a T.V to fall asleep in front off now and Sunday is complete😉❤💯👍👍👍👍👍

Have been here a couple of times over the past few months, there is never enough staff on, there has always been an issue, broken coffee machine, staff unable to make cocktails, there's an event on so couldn't take food orders so had to wait an hour to order food. Food has been good every time but service is bad

Really poor service. I questioned the amount of beer was in my half a pint (my first) the rudeness from the barmaid who claimed to be the manager was disgraceful. Soap was empty in the toilet, and was just an all round terrible experience

This pub is nice, very quiet on the night I went but I think it gets very busy on a Wednesday? The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice for a pint with some friends. There is a very nice pool and darts room. From what I saw there is somewhat limited seating in the bar area, but I think there is a restaurant area. The menu looks delicious but unfortunately they weren't serving food on my visit. The pub is quite dark inside, but doesn't feel outdated. A nice place to visit, but I was surprised at the price. I ended up paying about £6 for a pint. I would go back for food, but I think it is quite pricey for a few pints. It is well located in Lincoln though, right across from where we were staying!
