The food was cold and greasy, but it wasn't supposed to be like that.

Last time the large fish, chips and curry sauce very good. Today what a difference. Large fish was not worth £8.50, skinny( more like a flat fish) and nearly broke my tooth on the chips so hard on the outside. Disappointed.

Hi, we had a couple of haddocks and cod , pies, sausages , chips were great ,the cod, pies and sausages were also , BUT the haddocks were really salty ? ,not just the batter ,which was salty so much that I couldn't eat it and I like my salt , then the haddock was salty but edible, didn't have the normal haddock taste ,just salt ,we have eaten from white river for last few years ,and unfortunately this has put us off , I'll try again sometime and hope it's a 1 off ....

What a delight it was to visit here. After a 40 mile round trip to the familiar Holmbush fish bar for a family supper of saveloys and chips, our family were visiting from abroad and outer counties. We were so very disappointed with Holmbush attitude lack of saveloys cooking or anything else, we drove around and found this little gem, not only did the lady very happily take our saveloys order, the gentleman had to cook them, we were delighted to wait, he cooked them and they were awesome, both the lady and gentleman were friendly, heard our plight, and were so obliging, White river fish bar now have all of families custom, hot not greasy gorgeous chinos, perfectly battered fish and saveloys we would die for, especially when you have a Whole family of cockneys turning up for a reunion and you get exactly want you want with such a friendly lady and man serving us., Thank you

Nice food and plenty of it. If you have a normal to generous appetite you don't need to order a portion of chips with every meal. Big portions of fish, even the mini fish that our daughter had was big enough for me.

Order was delayed due to staff miss communication only half the order was cooked but was prepared 10 mins before ready, batter was over cooked and chips was over cooked, comment made by the server to the cooker saying she can do anything with this while playing with the chips but yet still serves them

Excellent fish and chips, went by the Google reviews and they were bang on. The fish was lush, the chips were great and the curry sauce was delicious. I recommend this chippy it won't disappoint.

The fish was ok but the batter was bland and not crispy. The chips were pale and low quality.

Ordered for 6.45 pick up at 6.00 not ready until 7.15 fish was all batter not much fish chips not very nice, but a least the peas where nice

Sadly, pre ordered 4 cod and chips. Had to wait 30 mins. Others had waited 45 mins. For pre orders. Two of the fish portions were not edible, one looked as though some sort of filling was in middle. Grey in colour, the other was batter, with a slither of fish. Do not think either was cod. Shop has gone down since new owners took over. It was excellent before. Did go back to complain and got refund. Will not be going back. It was good Friday, no excuse for poor quality of product.

Absolutely beautiful fish and chips. The cod was cooked perfectly, and chips were crispy and fluffy inside. Everything was cooked fresh as I ordered it and it was only a 10 minute wait even though they seemed very busy. Staff were friendly.

The best fish n chips bar none. Everything is fantastic the fish oh my god was so big I only ate half n took the other half home either me . The curry sauce is so good .Recommend this chippy in a heartbeat. If they keep the menu portion sizes the sane then thrull do very well .

Called in for fish and chips. I ordered cod and chips, it was all freshly cooked and tasted perfect. Batter was light a crispy.

We've used this shop for a while and and overall things have been good. But last night after ordering online I was left standing around to be served at the back of a big queue. I arrived on time to find 6 people in front of me. I mentioned on arrival that I had pre-ordered but nothing happened. 15 minutes later and only after all the others had been served I got my food. I did mention that the online system needs looking at but was told a lot of people came in the shop at once. Surely the point of booking online is to avoid this issue? I've decided to go back to using Francines because despite how busy they get the food is always ready on time.

The fish and chips were beautiful and we had no complaints whatsoever. Staff were friendly and there was no undue delay. I was a little put off by the person cooking the fish repeatedly touching the fish to see if it was cooked but it transpired he was training

Delicious takeaway fish and chips close to the cinema. Cooked to order and piping hot from shop counter to home table. The regular cod portions are very generous and perfectly cooked in light, crispy batter. One portion of large chips is more than enough for two. The mushy peas are just right and all served with a smile by friendly staff.

Had fish and chips tonight the fish was freshly cooked the chips were dished up and when I got home with the food less than 5 mins away chips were warm horrible

Disappointed to have to pay £6.20 for burnt scampi. I phoned and they offered us another , but by the time I got there in the car to collect it. The fish and chips would be cold. I just don’t understand how you can make that mistake, surely you’d see that it was burnt??

Came yesterday for the first time in a year and the difference is awful! Chips are not usual standard, no chicken breast or wing even on the menu anymore. Didn't even complete my order that I paid for as curry sauce was missing. No onion rings on menus anymore. The online menu states that you sell cans of Rio and to be told you don't isn't good enough. Very disappointing after using this place lots of times and has been very good in the past

Terrible service waited over 30 mins for food, lukewarm at the best, greasy fishbatter.obviously mis placed our order as people coming in served before us as pointed out by other customers, no apology given .....never again.

Again I visited as had a bad experience before with hard chips, wasn’t pleasantly surprised this time… chips were hard, tasteless and most black! Fish was lovely tho! So big shame

Used to go here for every fish and chip meal a few years ago. The fish was incredible, the chips outstanding and generally everything was first class. Then, around a year ago something changed with the chips. They were tasteless and has a sweet tang to then but the fish was still great. Thought we'd try them again recently as they have now merged with two other chips shops so I had high hoped they had improved. Sadly I could have been more wrong. Most of their menu has now been changed and alot of items have vanished. The chips arw now even more disgusting than before and the fish, that was so good previously, is now an absolute abomination. Way too much greasy hard batter and hardly any fish inside, I've never been so disappointed. Two large cod & chips, two sausages and a battered burger came to £32. We will never go back here again, if you want delicious property chip shop chips and the best creamy gigantic cod, do yourself a favour and go to Harts Fish & Chips, they seem to understand what quality and taste is.

A decent chippy where a large fish is actually a large fish hanging out of the box. Good portion size for normal fish and the chips are also a decent portion. Tasted good and fresh.

I visited this place in 2018, 5 years later, I decided to visit although I was staying an hour away from the White River chippy. I have to say the fish didn't disappoint, but the chips did. They were a bit dry and hard.

I’ve been coming here for years as the cod was always spot on as long as the main man was cooking (crispy light batter and chunky white fish). Since being taken over I was concerned the quality would slack. After 2 large cod today and chatting to the very friendly staff I’m confident this will be a great chip shop. They’ve got a high standard to uphold but good luck to them. Cheers and thanks

Really exceptional chip shop Their fish is truly excellent and portions are very large and always cooked to order and their online ordering system is excellent This used to be highly recommended by me and was my go to place for fish and chips Been back many times but a change of ownership has brought about a price hike - it is now 50% more expensive than neighbouring chip shops of equal standing So, after almost 5 years of support I simply can't afford to eat here - great food, just too high a price

From 5 stars to 2 so slow now cod and chips waiting over 30mins used to be good these should be ready cooked not soecial order

What I got here was quite literally perfect fish and chips. Friendly, prompt service, delicious food. I could t be happier with it.

Not the best chippy I've had, although not the worst but it is down there. Ordered for collection and the food was warm at best. Chips were more grease than chips and weren't great quality. Could have caught them on a bad day but for sea side chippy I was a bit disappointed. Can't say any more as I was on holiday so I only have this one experience to go off. Locals may know them better.

Always use White River chippy but little bit disappointed with the chips which I bought at about 5.20 tonight, they were very dry and a little tough inside as though they weren't fried long enough, sorry to have moan as we're normally very satisfied with everything.

Chips awful tasted like been kept warm for hours and hours. Dry bruised black eyes went in the bin. Curry sauce not a fan total waste of £23 never wasting my money again

Came to live in the area four and half years ago. Tried some others then found this one. This remains the best chippy in the area by a large margin - the fish is truly succulent and excellent and the chips are close behind. The portions are generous and the cooking absolutely spot on - this is first choice for my partner's son and lady for the best there is when they visit from London. You want the best, go here

This Fish and Chip shop is the best in the St Austell area, the portions are very ample for the cost, and cooked to perfection, the fish is thick white chunky Cod, the batter is crisp and again cooked to perfection, I would not go anywhere else for our Friday/Saturday treat, brilliant just brilliant 😋

Very disappointed, first time ever, we only had chips as it was lunchtime, I think they had been left to keep warm for hours, totally inedible, complete waste of £5, always had amazing fish and chips always cooked fresh and always hot, today they were cold dry and hard, very unpleasant

If this is what Jamaica is about in steamed fish eatery I'd advise no breakfast before indulging. This delightful, humble and graceful place was excellent on all levels....I selected steamed yellow tail snapper with festival. I didn't care about the wait and was overwhelmed, overjoyed...

After reading the reviews ( not local - on our holiday ) and hoping for a fab chippy tea I was sadly very disappointed 😒 The chips were dry and hard and the fish was shocking !! Wet and soggy inside ( believe to be frozen fish defrosted from what I could see in the background ) and the batter dark and overcooked on the outside but still soggy inside ! I can honestly say it’s the worst meal I’ve eaten in a very long time . Such a shame

This relates to a large order for eight people. Each and every member of the group said the chips were the worst they had ever eaten. They were rock hard! Clearly they were reheated from lunchtime and had been cooked extremely badly - inedible. We...

This fish bar is very high quality. Their chips are salty and delicious, the fish is very well cooked and crispy, and the sausages are divine. The staff are very friendly and always ask if you want salt or vinegar or both. I 100% recommend this fish shop as there are no flaws whatsoever.

Just picked up a big order after checking the great reviews but very disappointed with the chips to be honest they tasted like reheated chips from lunch time. Fish was lovely though.

Good value. Great service. I was experiencing some considerable pain and discomfort walking when I visited and I sat on the low wall outside whilst I waited and the staff kindly thoughtful brought my order out to me. Very nice Fish and Chips too.

6.5/10 No qualms with haddock at price point, £6.20, chips however for £2.80 as some reviews detail a mix of fresh and old refried, not what you want. Curry sauce nearly £2 underwealming flavour and volume. No rush to return

Really good chip shop. Food portion size was good, not too much but just enough. Fish was cooked really well. Staff were really friendly. Shop is clean. Food was well packaged and kept very warm, was still hot when we got home. Park at the rear of the shop if you visit after 17:30, but not before that time or you will get a ticket!

The WORST chips in Cornwall, reheated at least twice, and then served luke warm. DISGUSTING

I meant to take a photo but I was starving and it was too delicious, I ordered it via the website and it was ready and piping hot when I arrived , I parked round the back (after 1730hrs) and the wife ran into the shop to collect , the chip shop on my campsite is rubbish however this place (no pun intended) was amazing , had the fish and chips the youngest had a burger, the eldest had tinned Mac and cheese when we got home as he's weird .......... Well done

Expensive, but they do good fish and chips..... it's a shame that they don't listen though, I love mushy peas, asked for them, but never got any.... I wasn't charged for any either, so as said, I wish they listened

Fish and chips are really good, if not a tad more expensive than other outlets. They lose one star because I asked for mushy peas, but when I got home there weren't any in the bag.

drove here after a terrible experience in Lostwithiel, had Fishcake and chips and it was superb, I travel a lot for work and have eaten all over the country and this shop is in my top five eateries. 10 out of 10 well done.

On this occasion I completed my order online as their website advised thd process was easy and straightforward and I was given a time to collect my order I find not realize I had received a txt saying my order was ready 5mins sooner. I collected my food customer service was good the fish+ chips were nice tasting but maybe cooked bit too much for my liking apart from that was OK.

The place is very clean and well presented.

We had a disappointing meal of fish and chips. However, the owner responded immediately to our review, explained what had gone wrong and provided us with vouchers on the spot. We were really impressed with the customer service. Unfortunately couldn't go back directly, but we will definitely be back with our vouchers as soon as we can to give the place another try.

Mixed feelings about this place. Eat from there twice, first time was decent (nice crispy fresh fish, OK chips), second time was awful (haddock tasted like it had been there a while and chips chewy and tasted much less than fresh). Not sure what to make of it but don't think we'll be back.

Cannot fault the food.However,Order placed in the morning for evening pick up,given time slot for collection at 1845 still sat outside Fish bar at 1910 .After 25 minutes of waiting returned order back home to find to portions of chips cold. Why bother with the time slots,other customers were entering ordering at that time and served before the pick up slot i was given totally unfair . Sorry but il take my business elsewhere.
