Overall I'd say it was fine but nothing to write home about. We just ordered main courses which were perfectly fine and served fairly quickly. The service was the best part - server ensured that we were only charged for a kids meal when technically our eldest had ordered off the adult's menu, and they were generally attentive and seemed happy in their work.

Overall a good meal on the harbour - wasn’t anything to fancy - wouldn’t visit again as was nothing special but wasn’t bad, just a bit middle of the road.

We've dined here a few times before so we knew we wouldn't be disappointed. The two young girls waiting on tables were very pleasant, polite and efficient and clearly happy in their work. The food was well presented and fabulous. Only downside of the evening was that the toilet was blocked and so could not be used and whilst I was directed to use the convenience in the Sloop Inn below, the pub was packed out and there was a queue.

The food is absolutely fantastic, but I would not recommend based on the service. We asked for a window seat upon arrival (and to be moved if there were any cancellations) and were told they were all booked within the hour. An hour passed and one other table arrived who were also seated away from a window and were also told the window tables were reserved within the hour. Finally as we were leaving (after very slow service between courses while the two waitresses scrolled on their phones) the window table reservations started to arrive. Very disappointing overall, stay in the bar downstairs!

The standout dish for me was the soup of the day, which was a mushroom soup infused with what seemed like dill but with a unique aromatic twist and a perfect blend of spices. I think it was tarhon. It was absolutely delicious and a great start to the meal. The fish and chips, while decent, didn't particularly stand out. It was your standard fare, satisfying but nothing extraordinary. However, the catch of the day, lemon sole, was very good. The fish was fresh and well-prepared, making it a commendable choice for seafood lovers. The pricing was reasonable, with the soup priced at £8.50 and the main course at £16. We also enjoyed some wine with our meal, which complemented the food nicely. Overall, The Captain's Table offers a pleasant dining experience with some standout dishes and reasonable prices.

stumbled upon this spot by the harbour and thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. the sweetest staff (leanne is the best!!!), cosy vibes, and fantastic focaccia ❤️ will be coming back!

An excellent meal in lovely surroundings - my only negative comment would be that it should be adults only!

Called in by off chance, more than accommodating in a table for 2. Ordered 2 fillet steaks honestly the best we had for ages, totally recommend. Even had free bottle of house wine with 2 steak's. Excellent service from the front of house team. Give them a try 👌

We were looking forward to surf and turf but were disappointed to say the least. Should have sent the steak back but don’t like doing that. Ordered medium rare and got medium well. Practically inedible. Appetizer was good. Service was very good. Decor needs an update.

5/5 in all aspects. I am writing this as I am endulging in my dessert. The quality is fantastic and what we liked most was the genuinely heartfelt friendliness and smiles of the staff. Fantastic service, great food and relaxing atmosphere. Recommended 100%.

Had a very nice meal last night. Both me and my wife had steak and thoroughly enjoyed them. Was a very cosy setting with very polite staff.

A group of 7 went for a meal this evening (2 of our group had a beautiful meal two evenings ago- 1 of the meals being ribs). We ordered various meal within our group, two of the meals ordered were ribs, the portion was half the size and the ribs were pure fat. The meals were sent back, my daughter ordered chicken burger instead, this was inedible. The breadcake was like a brick and the chicken burger was dry and tough. Very disappointing and also disappointing that no senior member of staff came to the table, it was left the waitress to sort and apologise for.

What an excellent dining experience. Celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here and had the surf and turf. Excellent food and very friendly service. I would definitely dine here again.

Cute describes the inside of the captains table, a lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly and outgoing, very attentive, and the food was gorgeous. Thanks for a lovely evening despite the yucky weather 😀

As a group of touring golfers it’s fair to say post golf is usually lager and a curry so ringing the changes at the captains table was a very pleasant change food service and atmosphere was great

Overpriced pub food in restaurant setting

A window table for two, great views over the harbour. Sarah took care of us the whole evening, service was amazing, food and wine top class. Nothing was too much trouble and a relaxed evening spent in this wonderful place.

So after reading a few negative comments I was a bit apprensive about coming here.This goes to show that you should really make your own mind up,food was lovely and the staff at the captains table were great.Visited today 13/04/23 and will definitely be visiting again in the summer.

Fantastic food & drink, the Tomato soup & the Seafood Paella was the best i've had! ** Came back in March 23 & it is still fantastic, this time we had our 8 month old, Bobby with us & we were welcomed by Roberta who Bobby really took a shine too, she was fantastic with him & us, would do the 550 mile round trip tomorrow for another one of their paellas!**

My sister and I booked a table here this evening for a meal. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection and tasted out of this world. We were almost too full for dessert but in the end decided on the creme brulee which was also delicious. We were served by Roberta whose service was excellent and who made our evening a memorable one. Will definitely be coming here again. The twins.

Front of house were lovely. But the food came out really fast, too fast for the fish and vegetables to be cooked from fresh. The dishes had a mixture of hot and cold fish, which was old and wasn't made clear on the menu. The crumble was very disappointing, sprinkled on crumble and I couldnt understand why the crème brulee tasted home made but the custard for the crumble was out of a carton. You can't ride on the coat tails of the pub and ignore the food. Plus the standard of food in st ives is high. Need to step up your game.

Good food and friendly / helpful staff. The chips that came with the burgers could have been a bit warmer but apart from that a very pleasent experience.

What a great and unique restaurant. People over 170m have to watch their heads, because it is such a low ceiling but this makes it so cosy and special. The food is superb and the staff is incredible, especially Roberta is earns more than 5 stars!

Booked a table a few weeks in advance and had the good fortune to get a second booking a few days later. Looked after by Leanne who is an asset to The Captain's Table. Food came quickly and portions were generous. Service was very good. Booking well in advance is most definitely recommended or you can take your chance with walking in downstairs at The Sloop Inn.

Where do I start from the moment we walked in to the moment we left I can’t say how much we enjoyed every moment the food was amazing the staff friendly polite and professional and nothing was too much will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to St Ives

Lovely harbour view table, thought we were in for a lovely treat. The starters were fine although the sliced cheap white bread was a bit of a shock. The fish on both the mains was overcooked. Could not be bothered complaining about another disappointing experience, surely a decent chef would not let it leave the kitchen. However the staff were very pleasant.

Great service, the staff were lovely, the steak just melted in my mouth, always find places have trouble cooking steak rare but this was cooked to perfection, my gfs seafood thing (I forget the name) was adored, helped her fall in love with crab meat, would absolutely recommend

They are requiring the NHS app, what is a big discrimination. If you dont have your smartphone with you, you cannot enter. A kind of tyranny

I get any test and trace form to fill in, but to require people to have the app is discrimination and elitism, it literally requires someone to have enough money to have a phone to download the app, not to say data and enough memory space.

Lovely restaurant at the Sloop Inn where we stayed for 3 days, friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

I have asked the staff whether they have fresh and alive lobsters, they said yes they got lobsters from the market very 7 am , however the lobster is absolutely not fresh one, the meat tastes really bad, but it still costs 20 pounds, anyway, I really miss the lobster I ate in Plymouth. Here is overpriced and bad quality

Overpriced shan atmosphere altogether a horrible place

Booked in for our wedding anniversary on a window seat as advised 3 months in advance as great reviews and was disappointed from the moment we arrived. We were told all the window seats were booked and apparently our name was not down for a window seat, very abruptly told we would not be getting one. Decided to stay because of the food reviews but again disappointed, I ordered seafood paella and it was definitely not paella as cooked in a sauce and slightly undercooked rice. My husband's mixed grill was not great either compared to previous restaurants we have eaten in along the front. Overall disappointed on a rare evening out together.

Lovely atmosphere. Great staff. Husband loved his food the steak. However I had one of the specials a Garlic Chicken Kiev. It was very dry didn't see or taste any garlic at all. Very dissapointed.

Excellent meal in the Captain's table at The Sloop in St Ives. Perfectly cooked steaks tonight, never had a bad meal here., Brilliant service from the lovely friendly staff. Thank you, we'll be back soon.

Gerat view and lovely food. Well worth a visit

This restaurant has now closed, which we found out when we turned up for our booking. It would have been good to have been called to let us know. Very rude, can understand why they have now closed if this reflects their level of service!

We visited this restaurant for the first time and all the food we were served was excellent, probably the best we've had in St Ives and we have tried many of the restaurants. Please be aware though that the menu is not as vast as other restaurants

The location of this restaurant is very well situated near the promenade, the food is very good and the staff are friendly and efficient.

Visited here due to the delicious looking currys on the website only to be told that not one was on the menu. We were very disappointed especially as there was only a choice of 5 meals. Husband had tempura asparagus to start which was lovely but the batter was over-salted. My lobster special only gave me hard meat the size of one large prawn and the chips were so over-salted they were inedible so basically I had nothing to eat. Why do restaurants take it upon themselves to salt chips for goodness sake? We can do it ourself. Wine was reasonably priced and nice - the best part of the meal. Service slow. Wouldn't return.

We’d walked past this place several times during our short visit to St Ives and finally decided to try it out for our last night. What a lovely way to end our visit - we’ve eaten well here but this was on a different level! After starters of duck spring rolls and crab pate my husband’s steak was some of the best either of us have tasted in a long time while my crab linguine was also superb. A honeycomb cheesecake dessert was to die for. Slightly more expensive than what we’d paid elsewhere but the quality is disproportionately good. The only problem is that the location (upstairs and off the harbour) is probably why there weren’t more people eating on a Thursday night in high season... So if you’re thinking about it my advice would be GO - St Ives is a competitive restaurant environment and places this good need supporting!

Amazing food great service a hidden gem & a must if you are in St Ives.The Angolan prawn curry was superb as was the crispy lamb.

It was wonderful!. A really different experience of really flavourful food. They found a table for us at the last minute. The service was great from the friendly team. A truly memorable visit.

What a fantastic place for a special dining experience. Never been here before but we enjoyed a gastronomic treat that you simply do not expect in a busy holiday destination. Fine dining at its best with plentiful portions from the nibbles to start with to the spectacular desserts. As for the middle bits, well the starter of crab was delightful but the choice of main courses with a Portuguese/Persian emphasis were out of this world. The prawn curry was unbelievable as was the sea bass. Go there!

We had a table booked for 20.15 and arrived 10 minutes early. Cocktails ordered and pre starts order at same time. Cocktails were very slow to the point we ordered drinks straight away to avoid having the long wait.The waitress was very rude and really not very helpful. Everything came over as a issue.The food however was fantastic! We even order extra because it was so good.Once the mains had be cleared we waited and waited to be asked about deserts to then be told the chef had closed the kitchen and gone home at 21.10!On that note we paid and went for ice creams.It’s such a shame that the service was so terrible, in fact the worst I have experienced but the food was amazing! Worth the terrible service for the food

A nice friendly atmosphere and very attentive staff. Although I was happy with my meal, not everyone was. The starters or nibbles were very nice. The mains were Ok although the lobster was a bit sparse and no tools were given to crack into it. My chocolate dessert was Ok but the junket type pudding and the blood orange doughnut were not so well received.

Great menu choices and attentive service. I'm normally very decisive when making a menu choice but options were so appealing I struggled to decide - my eventual choice of spider crab linguine was fantastic!

Ok so this is a lovely place with beautiful ambience and attention to detail. However v expensive for what you are getting compared to other local establishments. Came out of there still hungry. V small portions. Half lobster rendered about 1 oz of meat. Went next door to The Sloop for desert. Nice place. Needs to rethink portions and prices.

Two vegetarian starters that can also be mains plus one main make this a great place to go. And there really interesting ones you won’t have had before or likely again! Service friendly and efficient.

Das Restaurant kann im Trubel von St. Ives leicht übersehen werden. Von vielen, die wir innerhalb von 14 Tagen hier besucht haben, war es eines der besten. Die Teller waren nicht nur für’s Auge schön angerichtet, sondern für englische Verhältnisse erstaunlich gut gewürzt. Die Bedienung war sehr unerfahren (wirklich qualifizierten Service haben wir hier nirgendwo erlebt), aber freundlich. Das Ambiente ist ungewöhnlich, aber ansprechend. Der Preis ist für das Gebotene günstig.

This place was a fantastic find - set back from the main hub of st Ives it could easily be overlooked, but once inside it’s a really cool vibe and ambience with friendly service and amazing food. There’s apparently a new chef and we were lucky enough to visit on his first night - every dish we had we’d have again - particular highlights were the monkfish scallop, crispy lamb with polenta and chocolate delice. We will definitely be coming back when in st Ives again.

This restaurant deserves to be MUCH BETTER KNOWN. Wonderful food, with a bias towards lightly spiced African and Middle East influences. Our waitress Nicola was delightful. Deserts were delicious and from a smallish wine list a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon. Can’t wait to return.

We found this restaurant by chance on our first night in St Ives, having found nowhere in the port without a booking. This restaurant is on the first floor with an ordinary ground floor entrance we walked past at first.

Visited here yesterday evening and had a fabulous meal. There were 7 of us and we were welcomed in and the food and service were brilliant. Vegetarian choice was a treat as it didn’t involve a risotto. Red mullet special was lovely and the cheeseboard was also fab. Ambience and staff were perfect for us .

Very overpriced for quality of food and service. Misleading pictures and blurb on their website talking about ‘food for foodies’ and ‘crazy-creative’ and ‘healthy eating’. I definitely didn’t encounter any of those things I’m afraid. Starters ranging from £8.50-13 and mains around £17-22. Slow service with a clearly struggling kitchen. (Nibbles came after starters and with main.) All a bit odd. Staff doing their best but struggling. Food not seasoned well. Side portions of greens were blackened (like wok fried?) but undercooked. Two courses and one alcoholic drink was £46 a head. Strange decor too. Sorry - not much good to say about it Meh.

We were looking for somewhere new in St Ives and stumbled upon the kitchen table whilst online. We booked a table for Sunday lunch and were amazed as the meal was superb. The staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended

We popped in on the off chance of getting a table without booking and we were lucky. The menu is slightly unusual. We had chilli squid,feta bombs, steak, seafood tagliatelle and courgette fritters

This is a nice little restaurant and the food was good (very interesting menu with a wide choice and tempting specials menu). However the service wasn't great. We had to wait a long time to be seated because the waitress was talking to another table for about ten minutes.

A great change to usual menus with the African themed menu. Great to have the choice on level of spice. Good food well cooked and presented. Sea bass was excellent.

Auf der Suche nach einem Restaurant fanden wir The Kitchen Table im 1. OG. Die Lage im Obergeschoss eher ungewöhnlich, aber bei Betreten des Restaurants hatten wir ein „gutes Gefühl“. Die Einrichtung ist gemütlich und es waren ziemlich viele Tische belegt. Die Servicekraft war sehr freundlich und man erzählte uns, dass hier vorher eine Bar ansässig gewesen ist.

We enjoyed a first class meal at this very comfortable restaurant. The food was of the highest standard and we could confidently recommend it to anyone.

I booked a table for 6 a couple of days in advance and was really looking forward to trying out The Kitchen Table as the menu looked great.

Myself and my family visited the kitchen table in July and the food was excellent. We all had three courses and all of it was extremely tasty. Would definitly recommend.

After eating here previously and the food being fantastic we then booked again with friends who came to stay over the weekend. Arriving 15minutes early we were mind blown by a sign on the door saying the chef was unfortunately ill and the restaurant was closed. I understand that this happens and it can not be helped but the communication was very poor! No phone call or voicemail to explain this, meaning at 8pm on bank holiday weekend we were left without a table booking. Very disappointed.

Amazing! The food is so fresh, tastes great and is fabulous value for money. Service was great, attentive enough so you feel very welcome, not over done. Would highly recommend The Kitchen Table for a very fresh meal.

Went here last night best ever the surroundings beautiful the staff lovely and the food have no words really to do it justice I had the Japanese seared tuna out of this world done to perfection and the dipping sauce was something else a must try hubby had the prawn curry which was just as good we saved ourselves for desert which I never do we shared the key lime plant pot the presentation matched the taste never liked sweet things but I do now hubby hates gardening but not now try this place real find thanks for an amazing evening what a winner

We loved it – the food was excellent, ambience lovely, service very professional and it made the evening memorable. If I was the owner, I wouldn’t want to keep this a secret much longer, it’s a good restaurant, perfectly suited to those who want to get away from the children and enjoy fine food in a civilised environment but still reasonably priced. One tiny gripe was not allowing gratuity’s to be added to the bill, I know you have to pay 2%, but 98% of a bigger tip is better than 100% of a much smaller one.

Menu looked interesting although the actual meal was disappointing. My meal was luke warm in the middle and went back to the kitchen. I did get a new serving but obviously had to wait for that to arrive, by which time my partner had finised his..

It was our first visit and we would definitely return. We shared the pancake roll starter which we thoroughly enjoyed, then both chose the lamb, which was so tender it melted in your mouth in a delicious sauce. We managed to find room for desserts which were equally as good. We loved the atmosphere and decor. The staff were lovely, friendly and attentive but professional. I think once people discover how good this restaurant is, it will be a case of booking before you set off on holiday!

We skipped a starter to ensure we had room for dessert. The main courses were very good. My partner sought advice from the waitress which was duly taken and the monkfish was superb. Mine was also well above average. The desserts were also great and well worth leaving room for.
