Three night stay We had decided to have a few days in Norfolk however when we tried to reserve our usual accomodations they were full We searched the internet and found some lovely modern rooms at The White Lady In Worstead We were impressed that this was a winner in Four in a Bed We are in our 70s and accept we are not so internet savvy so gullible to being caught out We rang and the owner was not available Dennis then called us back and after a bit of confusion at the Worstead end over availability we booked 2 nights and then after another call back a third night However on arrival we pulled up at a rather tired looking pub that on the web advertises itself as a 3 star hotel We could not access the property as it was closed and no one in sight We returned later and were shown to a room which was not as shown on booking.com We explained to the gentleman that showed us this room that it was not what we had felt we booked We would never stay in a pub ina room above the bar We explained this to the gentleman who did become a little agitated with us he explained he was self employed as were most staff which seems a little strange and could not help so we rang Dennis the owner who was on holiday in Cornwall His response was abrupt, totally unhelpful and ‘ You have booked it so that’s it’ We offered to pay for one night but not stay and accept 2 nights refund Definitely not was the response and he hung up on us We pondered as to whether we should just leave but our concern was where do we stay if we do Just having driven 4 hours it was a long distance to return So we stayed and decided to be there the minimum The first night we were the only guests The room had signs of damp (Pictures attached) We were un able to sleep due to the bar below being very noisy and then the church bells rang every hour The following morning we went to breakfast in a very tired dining room The continental breakfast spread constituted of old half packs of white and brown bread 3 half filled cereal bottles and some fruit well passed the sell by date No milk no juice no pasties We asked for fresh fruit but there was none available A young timid waitress asked what we wanted. Nothing about what was on offer !! So porridge and some grilled tomatoes and mushrooms and tea was our breakfast after us suggesting this The dining room had signs of damp and the floor extremely dirty We decided to go to the coast all day and did not return till late where we found the area in front of the pub cluttered with cars and no allocation for guests to park only to leave us to park on the narrow road nearby That evening it was extremely noisy in the bar below and took ages to get some sleep We woke on and off all night aided by the bells In the morning we were greeted by cold showers. We told the young girl in the dining room but she was much to timid to offer any suggestion The very pleasant young chef from the local village of small burgh made a note However whilst having breakfast the aforesaid young girl approached and told us in front of other people to say we had not paid our bar bill from the previous night. Our response was that we were not in the bar !! Or hotel !! She then spoke to everyone else to find who owed the money On the third morning our last thankfully day we found that orange juice had arrived. Nothing much else but there were now more guests m We feel this pub is living on its glory of 2014 and now in 2023 in a poor way We doubt anything has been decorated or improved. It’s a little sad and sorry place It can not in our opinion be called a hotel. No room service no bed making no fresh towels no replenishing of toiletries The hair dryer does not reach to the mirror The kettle is on the floor the bed is tiny Please do not be taken in by the initial friendly chat to get you to pay as after that it’s down hill It’s run on a shoe string Please see some photos we took We would never ever recommend this place it’s an insult to Norfolk

What an amazing pub! Really friendly staff who went out of their way to make us welcome and provide us with whatever we needed. And the food was absolutely delicious! Maddie was a brilliant host and Henry is a fantastic chef. Dennis also looked after us really well. The food was out of this world! Homemade ravioli and tartare sauce, beer battered cod were delicious and the mussels were so tasty. Thank you for your friendly service; would definitely recommend this pub for drinks and/or food.

We choose here for dinner based on past reviews on trip advisor, and boy we were not disappointed. The food was exquisite. My husband had the cod loin with Indian flavours and influences, whilst I had the Korean chicken burger with dirty sweet potato fries. It was a flavour explosion in my mouth and my husband was equally impressed with his choice. It is definitely the most un-pub-like pub I have ever been in but it was busy and everyone was very friendly.

A strange arrival experience of a closed door with signs on in a a big X on one door - looked like it was closed and due to be renovated. The door opens straight onto a bar, and the locals seem to wonder why strange visitors have arrived. The staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and great attentive service. By far the best in what was our third bar meal of the week. The menu was short, but with some interesting variations, particularly a Korean theme for some items. The food was excellent. Amazing flavours.

My wife & I came across The White Lady Pub on a visit to the area,, when dropping off my daughter & her friend at the nearby Squirrels horse riding school.Basically we had an hour or so to kill so we called in for some lunch. It was an extremely enjoyable hour and we had the pleasure of meeting the proprietor (Dennis) who was the perfect host.We had lunch and a pint, both of which were high quality and we left suitably sustained.Didn’t get the chance to say our goodbyes to Dennis as he was busy tending other customers. I had a sea bass with runner beans with lovely crushed new potatoes off the specials board. I was then succumbed by a delightful creme brulee. The young waitress was very smiley and polite , a credit to the establishment. Ths valentines Sarah and I took the train from Norwich to the village of Worstead. 20minits later we were waling through the beutiful Norfolk countryside. Quiet lanes and woodland paths took us on a 6-mile circular walk and back to The White Lady via the St Mary the wonderful Worstead Church. We were welcomed by a friendly barman, Anthony, who was happy to take the time to chat with us about the history of the pub and the village bring us drinks whilst we waited for our meal to arrive. Both of our meals were excellent and the semolina coated squid rings served with salad garnish and aioli dip were the best I have had outside of Spain! The beer was as well kept as the pub, the landlord Denis clearly takes great pride in his pub! All in all our visit to the White Lady rounded off our day in the best way possible.

Spent two nights B&B here plus evening meals. Very welcoming hosts. Great atmosphere in the bar where we had our evening meals. Fantastic modern extension on the rear of the building where breakfast was served. Meals were plentiful and hot, even the mushrooms at breakfast were still hot after many minutes on our lovely warm plates. Nice touch of bottles of water individually on the table at breakfast, a nice thought as most guests would probably be out on the go all day. Never experienced this before and we thought it was a brilliant idea. We had the HMS Victory room at the front of the building and with the en suite shower room, felt that the owners had made the most of the spaces there, not cramped rooms at all. We found the bed very comfortable, could have done with a larger duvet with more overflow at the sides, but that's not a gripe - we still slept well, the pillows were superb. The church clock chimed gently, rather than noisily and was no problem. Dennis and Antony were delightful hosts, very helpful and chatty and it was clear that they took great pride in the place. Dennis gave us some great experience stories about the cottage renovations and there were photographs on the walls of the old building changes etc. Beware of steep staircase though, if guests are a bit unsteady on their feet (which we are not!). Overall, a lovely place to stay, nooks and crannies and doors everywhere, intriguing and an interesting old building. Well done both!

Stayed in a self catering bungalow for 4 nights. Very friendly Host - Dennis - no problem there. He even took me on a guided tour of the medieval cellar when I asked about the place. The evening meals we had on two of our nights were very nice. Ate in the restaurant the first night but only us there so felt a bit awkward. Ate in the pub the other night. Chef also very friendly. It was rather chilly in the pub though. The accommodation was OK. Clean and tidy and well supplied.Towels and toiletries included. The beds were not very comfortable. We tried all three. The duvets are made of a material which made them slide off all the time. The shower base moves when you are in it (possibly a cheap base). We could not understand why a washing machine was there - as no way to dry things. A dishwasher would have been better. The real gripe was the church bells ringing on every hour but I gather there is not much that can be done about them. We also had a very rude awakening (having just finally gone into a deep sleep) on the Wednesday morning at 6.30 by the lorry directly outside our bungalow delivering the beer barrels. I know it is a pub but this was just the icing on the cake. We almost left a day early but decided against that. Due to the noise and beds we would not stay again or recommend it. Shame as the rest was reasonable.

This is the first time ive ever felt the need to leave a review, not to have a moan but hopefully seen as constructive critism! We visited today as a family of 7 for lunch, having been here twice before and loved it. But sadly on this occasion we were all very disappointed, firstly the restaurant for the entire time we were there was totally empty an a sunday lunchtime which seemed odd in itself, it lacked any atmosphere. The young lad who initially served us was very sweet, we were then served by a lady, who was ok but didnt seem particularly happy to be there. The food was very bland and not anywhere near to how good it was on previous occasions. Some background music might have helped to generate a little atmosphere. Sadly we probably wont be returning.

Normally you have to chase for additional water but this was a nice touch.Ordered two mains and 2 kids meal and all four were really nice. Stayed a week in one of The Stables. Accommodation good and is spacious, clean and tidy. No private outside seating area with the property. The White Lady bar is a basic pub and frequented a lot by the local community and on the first occasion we entered we had to step over several dogs to negotiate our way round to the bar! We had one meal in the restaurant. The food was very good with large portions but we thought it was a bit expensive. Worstead is a small village with no shops but is in a good area for walking and also for driving to a lot of places easily within half an hour to an hour away like Cromer, Wells, Sheringham (for the Poppy Line train). Aylesham or Wroxham for the Bure Valley Railway. National Trust properties Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall to name two, Norwich and of course The Broads plus many other places. All in all a good place to stay for a holiday.

I see from an earlier view that it is advisable to book on a Saturday. However, on a recent Saturday lunchtime when we called in for a light lunch this was far from the case. In fact we may have been the only customers and when we arrived at just after mid-day the door appeared to be locked and we were walking away when the door was opened from the inside. That said we did have an enjoyable lunch and the staff proved to be friendly and the Calamarie rings and King prawn Tempura were well cooked and good value. We had been to the pub previously years ago in its previous life as The New Inn. The White Lady is in the process of being updated with a new dining room but otherwise the pub is quite sparse and lacks atmosphere (we visited on a bank holiday weekend) The landlord was friendly and welcoming, our waitress less so. The high chairs provided were pretty grubby. Our food came out quickly but was cleared away painfully slowly, difficult when you are trying to keep quick eating children entertained. Our roasts were ok, yorkshires a little burnt and very very very generous with the gravy. Puddings again average, in very generous portions. Not much of an option for the children, only supermarket vanilla icecream. No baby changing facilities or toilet roll in the ladies. Overall it feels like it needs to try harder. The new B&B accomodation did look very impressive but the pub and dining room has some way to go to challenge other pubs in the area which are much nicer and well catered to families.

WE were holidaying nearby and this was recommended in the local info. Worstead is a lovely village - home of the famous Worsted Cloth. This pub was right next to the village church - which was in itself very large and beautiful. The landlord gave us a very warm welcome and the locals were very friendly & chatty. the pub is very old but has been modernised inside and they have lovely stable conversions for holiday lets. They seem to have plenty going on with regard to music festivals etc etc. We visited on a Monday evening and had a really good meal. I did think the wine - a make I buy in the Supermarket for less than £5 - was a bit pricy at £16.50. However the food was fine.. I enjoyed mushrooms with garlic dip to start and salmon with prawn & cream saude. My husband had a Sirloin as they were out of RibEye steak. Although the price was not extortionate - I did feel that the presentation could have been a bit better. The prawn sauce was very bland and thin and the salmon overcooked. The steak was good. Having said all that we ate & enjoyed it. Room for improvement.

We stopped off in Worstead on our holidays. The White Lady is in the centre of the village next to the wonderful church. Our lunch was the fairly unexciting pub fare they serve in these parts, fish and chips for me, a chicken burger for my other half. The pub was practically deserted resulting in a lugubrious atmosphere. The village seems to be dying on its feet. The only positive was the half a pint of Woodforde's Wherry draft beer - very nice indeed. Total cost of meal for two £23.05 - rather pricey in our view for what we got.

We stopped here on the off chance for lunch on a very cold and windy late sunday lunch time. We had just done a 4 hour walk nearby and were tired, a little grumpy and hungry! To be honest we were not expecting to be served at just before 3pm and suspected if we were then it wouldn't be too good. On arrival we were welcomed in and nothing was too much trouble. The pub has been extensively and very pleasingly refurbished since my last visit several years ago and it felt right from the second we entered. Having first got drinks including a very good pint of Norfolk Humpty Dumpty ale we were soon in the dining room and all decided to go for the lunch time specials whilst laughing at risking that expectation of a dried up full plate. How wrong could we be! My wife had the roast beef with all the trimmings including a chipolata and yorkshires plus loads of fresh veg. The rest of us had the steak and ale pie which was a proper pie - large with tasty pastry top and bottom and loads of steak and lovely gravy with lots of fresh veg. Well, needless to say none of it was dried up. The portions were very large, the quality very good and none of us could do them justice despite being very hungry - The long and short of it was not being able to fit in a pudding! I look forward to going again but with someone else doing the driving home!

We booked for a family Sunday lunch, when calling to book there were a lot of hums and ha’s making it sound really difficult to take our booking. The staff looked as though it was dress-down Sunday. T
