Me and my husband stayed here last night and what a wonderful hotel, beautiful room brilliant staff and gorgeous food couldn’t fault them. The cost of the room was real good value for money and the food was also very good value for money. Will definitely be staying again thank you for a lovely stay.

I've got two young children and a wife and this place is perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Easy to find on the old Newquay road with a massive carpark. Indoor play tucked away in one corner meant the kids were happy. An extensive carvery (£9ish) in the other corner was far enough away from the soft play not to be disturbed. You pay at the bar and get a ticket you present to the chef. There is also a menu with traditional pub grub that is served to your table.Traditional interior and friendly staff. Don't expect a poshed up pub pretending to be a restaurant and be assured you'll find it refreshing to eat pub food in a pub and pay pub prices surrounded by other people having an equally nice time.

Met for lunch at the pub side. Orders made by friends and paid for separately, came out separately with about a ten minute gap! Just had to eat what came first or it would go cold... Nice pub atmosphere... mix of people in there, pool players, kiddies playing on the indoor climbing castle/frame, eaters at tables, normal bar drinkers... Massive site with carvery separate and outdoor space would come into its own in the summer... Food was just normal pub grub.

We stopped by after a morning at Newquay zoo. Great play area for the kids. Barman was very welcoming and had laugh with us about the no children or wasps at the bar sign. Reasonably priced food that was lovely and big portions too. Would recommend and will return again. Even getting soaked by a sudden downpour whilst eating our lunch didn't put us off.

My friends and I stayed here while attending a nearby cider festival which we didn’t fancy camping at. The room price was very good and it included breakfast which was appealing. When we arrived the room was lovely and spacious however hotter than the sun even with the window wide open! All in all we slept well, enjoyed the provided breakfast and found the staff pleasant. There were a couple of issues though that really ruined our experience - The first night when I went to get into bed the slats collapsed under the far side of the bed. I had to sleep on a sloped bed for the night but in fairness the staff were prompt to fix this when I told them in the morning. We had a local taxi app on one of our phones and were intending to use this but then thought it might be more efficient to ask reception if they would order us a taxi. We were told that taxis in the area took hours and wouldn’t show but that they had someone who would take us down the road to the cider festival. We weren’t sure cost wise exactly how much this would be but imagined a fiver or maybe a drink behind the bar would be the most the chap would expect for a trip 90 seconds down the road when he wasn’t a registered taxi and appeared to be doing us a favour. We were surprised, and soon quite angry, when he said ‘call it 10-15 ish). We have him ten feeling we had little option but felt conned. We used the Tao app we had the following day and a registered taxi arrived within 5 minutes, charged us 4.80 and advised that 10 pounds would be the maximum fare asked after 11pm and that what this hotel is doing is not legal. We’re really angry about this. Lastly there are huge discrepancies between the hotel information when you book and the hotel information in the room. For instance at booking it said that breakfast was 9-12 which really suited us however when we arrived it was 8-9 - incredibly early for a weekend and a very narrow time slot.

Was eventually told "you can't order food from bar " no signs in place to verify this. The rock music was so loud, you couldn't hear yourself think. The food! Disgusting! Definitely won't go back. Got sent to Cornwall in July (bonus!!!!) Nearly 10 hrs travel did not deter me! Was gutted there isn't a local beach, but the lodge was gorgeous! Very quiet, a main road is right outside, but more like the odd tractor and a few cars, even in rush hour. The staff were nice and so were the odd local. The gardens of the lodge are well established and even have mini golf, a bouncy castle and ride ons for kiddies. Soil peaceful! Lovely and clean, the bed was luxurious and a great night's sleep. Breakfast is cooked to order, the chef is a stocky bloke with a Cornish accent, who would sing along to the radio, which was nice. The only downside is out of the hotel's control... It's the @ss end of nowhere, but a village down the road, but I'd say make sure you have a car! Only approx 8 miles from Truro, but because of the lanes, it cost around £19.50 for taxis each way; and you struggle get one early morning, as the council have the contracts with the taxis for all the local school kids. The taxi drivers from A2B don't cheat you. Perranporth was only a £10 taxi ride away. Beautiful beach at Perranporth, though the local kids (and their parents) are feral d...heads (worse than the gulls). A beach side pub/restaurant is decently priced. All in all, for a townie, being paid to go to Cornwall, even though working during the day, was great! So, if you are looking at Cornwall and take your car, perfect hotel after a busy day and a good night's sleep with a great brekkie!

So the other one finished. We sat and watched the utter chaos going on around the bar and into the restaurant. On trying to access the toilets there was a dinning table next to the door, people trying to eat so didn't really want to move as we said excuse me ! The toilets were not up to standard. To give the pub a second chance I tried again today it was even worse with two behind the bar who could hardly speak English and people waiting and lack of stock ! Utter chaos. I lived in the area and have known this pub a long time, but I won't bother again ! !

La elección de la comida es buena. Tuve la cerveza pescado maltratado y era un tamaño muy generoso, las patatas fritas eran muy agradable y había guisantes y una ensalada pequeña para ir con ella. Our second visit to the White House Inn - having driven past it on previous holidays in Cornwall we stopped for a meal last year. This year my 8 and 5 year old children asked to visit again as they remembered the play areas. With indoor soft play and a fantastic outdoor play area both were happy with waiting for our food to arrive and we got the chance to relax with a drink after our meal while they played some more. The menu offers a good selection at reasonable prices and the food was very good.As two of our group of five were vegetarian we were pleased to see a reasonable selection on the menu. The staff were friendly and helpful, even though they were busy we didn't feel either rushed or neglected - as often happens in restaurants. The setting is lovely and for a stop at the end of a day out while on holiday it was perfect.

Came across this inn by sheer chance after a gruelling but very pleasant walk across the dunes at Perran sands. The food we ordered was plentiful and very tasty, so no complaints there. However, the welcome for us non-locals was luke-warm to say the least. The banter between the barman and the locals may have been very amusing to them, but it makes for a less-than welcoming experience for the newcomers. Worst of all is the utterly offensive and really quite disgusting slogan painted above the bar. My wife told me that had she seen it when we first arrived she would have left immediately. What is the management thinking? This is presumably trying to be a family-friendly pub! "Liquor in the front, poker in the rear". Unbelievable.

The outside of this pub has always put me off as there is a large children's play area visible from the road, at the rear of the inn. However, my wife and I walk the footpaths and lanes in this area on a regular basis, so one particularly cold day we decided to go in for a quick drink. The atmosphere inside was warm and friendly with a log fire burning in the open grate. We have returned since and enjoyed a cooked lunch which was tasty and reasonably priced. This is an unpretentious inn, typically Cornish and down to earth. However, being local, I would be reluctant to visit for an evening meal during the holiday season, as I imagine it could get rather busy.

The lamb and mint pie was lovely though but the whole dining experience was let down by inattentive service. Our 3 year old had a lovely time using the play areas, both inside and out; they are functional but very run down and in need of significant TLC.The worst part of our visit was just as we were leaving, sitting on the floor putting our son's shoes on, and three fleas were climbing on his arms. Revolting. As a dog owner it is always a positive for pets to be allowed, however cleaning standards must be increased to negate the possibility of the associated pests.

We have been here on many occasions when visiting Cornwall as it is a good place to let your kids run off some energy with an indoor and outdoor play area. Today we decided to eat here. We ordered cod and chips, Mexican chicken and rice and garlic chicken and rice. The fish was tiny, not very white inside the batter as fish should be and the hand cut chips were anaemic. The portion size was more for a child than an adult. The Mexican chicken was tasty, but again, the portion size was small and the dish was too runny. The garlic chicken was advertised as breast meat but most of the meat was leg or thigh meat and no garlic to taste of. We actually sent this meal back and were refunded. All meals were priced at £10.95 but if you compare what we had to what you get at The Galleon in Fowey it was overpriced, small portioned and really not that nice. On a positive, the staff are very nice and were happy enough to refund us the meal we returned.

Well, where do I start? We've been here on many occasions before and it was lovely. Today was a huge, huge disappointment. When we walked into the bar the barman was too busy talking to someone else to serve us but the lady that eventually did was pleasant enough. We walked over to the restaurant where there was a board saying wait to be seated by a waitress but no waitress came to serve us. The chef eventually came over and POINTED to a seat. We went over and sat down and he brought over the menus. My husband was going to have the carvery but I don't eat pork or beef so I chose the fish pie and asked if I could have this with some carvery veg, he said yes that would be possible. The waiter went to check on the availability but came over and said I couldn't have that as it wasn't available, it was only just gone 1 o'clock. I am not a huge lover of chips or rice so I thought I'd have the fish cakes or the garlic chicken and see if I could have the carvery veg with them. The waiter said no I couldn't, I could only have rice or chips with this!!!!! This didn't really make sense as the chef would have had to cook the rice or chips but the carvery veg was already cooked. I wouldnt have minded paying an extra few pounds for the veg. There were no apologies or alternative vegetable ideas offered so we walked out. Nobody tried to stop us or ask if there was anything else they could do. The place was fairly empty but on previous occasions it has always been full at Sunday lunchtimes. its pretty bad customer service really and no wonder they were not busy. The staff are pretty miserable and don't smile much, the whole place doesn't feel as welcoming as it used to. I will never return here and the staff could do with some lessons in hospitality. After walking out we drove to the New Inn at Goonhavern where we were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in even though they were fairly busy. Even when we left we were given a loyalty card and asked how everything was. Can't wait to go back there.

We recently moved to Cornwall and have visited this pub with family & friends on 3 occasions now. First time there was about 8 of us, the restaurant was full but the barman said it was ok to push two tables together in the bar area. The bar staff watched us do it then came over and told us to put them the other way around. Minor quibble so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Second visit, again with family, food ok, bar staff not very welcoming but locals friendly. Third visit, with friends, restaurant empty but told we can't use it because it's set up for Xmas dinners in the evening (this was at noon, we looked, there were crackers on the tables and that's it!). Anyway, we were left to find a table, but were told that the tables in the bar area were reserved, so they seemed happy with the 9 of us sitting on two tiny tables by the pool tables in an empty pub. We left & went to the Seina Arms in Perranporth where we were welcomed with open arms into a busy pub and the barman moved tables for us. To summarise: the White House looks like a cracking pub with good facilities but is completely let down by miserable bar staff and a very unwelcoming atmosphere - shame!

Coming home from a late day out we stopped in about 8.30. Big car park which was a quarter full which is normally not a good indication especially in the height of summer. We all decided to try it. Inside and outside was spacious. Kids loved the play area and pool tables. Very friendly staff. Good choice of food. Food came quick for all 8 of us. Big size portions for adults and kids. Food was hot. Food was excellent! Dessert was also excellent. Bar staff were friendly. Only negative was the mens toilets were smelly. We all really enjoyed the night, just cant understand why it wasn't packed..

Due to the rain we were looking for a pub where the children could play. It's a bit scruffy and dark and the food is average. Very busy pub so advise booking in advance.Messed up our food order twice and waitress was sullen.Would recommend the Fort Inn in Newquay which is much nicer and not too far to drive.

I left a review for this on their hotel page by mistake, to re-cap the lunch we had was really nice, a tuna baguette and a bacon & stilton jacket spud, the pub in general was nice, beer garden great and I'd happily spend a good few hours here.I commented that the bar staff where underwhelming and received a response from the manager there that it was his/her 14 year old son in training, however they hadn't read the review properly because it was the older man on the bar that was "robostaff".Unfortunately I can't reply to their post on that page, so I'm trying here.

Recently visited this Inn for lunch - 7 family members in our party. Ordered from the fairly extensive menu that boasted a huge range of "homemade" dishes. Really that many homemade? Anyway our food and drink bill came to around £60 -the food wasn't too bad but one of our party wanted a glass of water with ice (being a very hot day, not surprising that ice was requested). Big mistake - apparently you can have a glass of water for free but will be charged for ice - allegedly to help pay for the electricity for the ice making machine !! One has to enquire as to what the mark up is for food and drink orders - is it so low that ice is on the menu? Absolutely ludicrous. Asked to speak to manager - funnily enough, like Elvis, he had left the building and had his staff take the flak for this.We will not be returning to this tight fisted establishment.

After popping in for a quick drink as we passed we checked out the menu and decided to go back later for dinner. Mistake!!! We were tempted by the 'home cooked' menu and 'hand cut chips' The restaurant is large and although quiet waited quite a while to be seated the were told to order food at desk and get your own drinks from the bar. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but does suggest that the restaurant is lacking. Our food arrived quickly, a cheese garlic bread that was basically a cheese baguette warmed. Main meals were ok but certainly meals were not 'home made' and chips wernt 'hand cut' We skipped desert and left very disappointed.....wishing we'd drive past!

Went there for a friends birthday, the food was expensive really and not that nice, had a cheese and pickle baguette which came with wedges or curly fries a few people had both so to compare, and not good at all for a start the baguette was thrown together and all of the wedges/fries where burnt. Also the staff are disgusting and not well mannered at all, they are ignorant and horrible, my friends have children and as a child friendly place with a play area brought them along, myself and friend felt like throttling the staff member after this... We asked for high chairs for the children and they were just placed by our table so naturally we put them up when we arrived as no-one had come over to do it for us, about 15 minutes from when we got there we were sat at the table about to order and my friends child who was luckily strapped in properly by her was sat playing when the high chair gave way scared he started to cry this attracted the attention of the staff who came over but not concerned about my friends child but the fact that the chair had broke and said this is why you should have asked me to set it up. We couldn't believe it! also be aware of the 4 barking mad dogs that await for you when arriving and leaving although behind a gate its frightening when there going mad, I wouldn't go back, the prices, food and especially staff are horrendous!

The food was a great value and delious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we would visit this place again when back in Cornwall as we are from Devon and would defiantly recommend this resturant to a friend.

We live just outside of Newquay, but we still make the effort to go out to the White House when we can.The pub is big. There is accommodation (lodge) with en-suite if you plan a stay. Being we have yet to stay but have been told by friends they are clean and tidy throughout. Most people go to eat and let the kids burn off some steam. The outside play area is huge for a pub. They have go-karts in the summer and it is quite popular/busy. With some pubs as busy as the White House can be, it is often tempting to turn around and go elsewhere. But this is NOT the case here. We have been at its quietest and at its busiest and never had a problem with being served. The staff are all good including the Landlord and Landlady. They have been there for 10 or 11 years now, and they maintain a warm, welcoming and friendly attitude to locals and tourists alike...even after all that time. Rare and a huge asset. The food is good, tasty, pub grub. All venues have good days and bad days with food, its unavoidable and realistic. But, unlike many pubs, The White House still serves generous, delicious food whenever we attend. Prices are fair. The carvery is a popular event and often you have to queue, but its never for very long because the guys at the food counter are efficient, happy and courteous. Drink prices are as you would expect. I drink port and brandy (house double recommended!) as well as a beer and its not as damaging to the wallet as some pubs. Glasses always clean and beer never stale. If its piddling down with rain there is a soft play area and an arcade room. Both looking a little tired but still excellent and safe. There are a LOT of kids that pass through there year in and year out. That considered, its well maintained.A roaring fire makes for a cosy winter visit. Plenty of seating too.I find it hard to believe anyone would slate the place to be honest. The owners are extremely hard working and pumped a lot into the venue.Big thumbs up from me

We visited here a couple of nights during our trip to Cornwall.... kids thought it was great! Yes it maybe a little on the tired side but the indoor sofa play keeps the kids amused while mum and dad eat!!! Food was typical 'pub grub' but the menu is pretty big with about 70 dishes on it... plus specials.... got to recommend the Club Sandwich.... it was huge!!!!!

Cue 2 baguettes wrapped in foil shoved at us and torrent of foul-mouthed abuse from the geordie owner. When told her service we were told our "attitudes were disgusting". This is a chavvy pub run by chavs for chavs. Avoid.

From the website it looks like the perfect place to head for a carvery with friends and kids, so off we went - 8 adults and 7 kids between 1 and 6. The place was really run down and some of the play equipment dangerous. The carvery was disgusting - chewy, overdone meat, frozen roast potatoes, tinned carrots, rock hard cauliflower cheese and melt in the mouth soggy broccoli. Should have looked this place up beforehand and seen the reviews but no internet access so asked the receptionist at the local caravan park -she must be taking a cut to recommend that place - never again.

Went there with my family and will never go back. The traditional log fire was belching smoke into the restaurant which did nothing to add to the already dingy and dull interior. Ordered a trio of local sausages which must have been brought in the 'Local' cash and carry, they were very over cooked and tough. The mash potatoe was cold and so salty that it could not be eaten. Thought about complaining but when I saw how dirty the chef's whites were decided it was safer not to eat anything produced in their kitchen.

We booked in for a leisurely late Sunday lunch with family... what a let down! After paying for our food, my husband was served the very last of hte roast beef. We were told there was only chicken left and it would be 2 minutes. Whilst waiting we noticed the vegtables on offer.... all very bland looking. New poatoes, colourless 'roast' potatoes that were just barely fried, broccoli, rrozed diced swede and sweetcorn. No horseradish, redcurrant or any other accompaniment. After 20 minutes we were still waiting with a large queue behind us. My husband had finished his meal (having left most of it) but still no sign of any chicken. Others behind us got fed up and asked to be reimbursed. This caused mayhem as the owner was very inpleasant and rude - so rude in fact that everyone immediiately - incluing us - demanded their money back. They must have lost 20 customers at least. We all walked out and I will never ever return. I am a local and retured hotelier - I cannot believe it could have been so bad. As we left, we saw the meat coming out to the carvery - it was deep fried chcicken portions - as you would expect from the local fish & chip shop!. Beware eating here..

I have been to The Oxford many times and it never disappoints. The landlady is very nice and friendly and so are the regulars. Every time I've gone in here I've had a laugh. Everyone seems to talk to each other, even if they don't really know you, which I like. It is decorated nice and toilets are always clean. They have a fire inside which is very cosy in winter. Overall, lovely, warm and friendly pub.

Had it not been for the fact I was absolutely starving I wouldn’t have eaten this wrap at all. Shame we didn’t see the reviews prior to eating here. Over priced food full of grease, the wait was nearly 50 minutes for a full breakfast and a breakfast wrap with bacon and cheese, which you wouldn’t mind if you were given notice of this, but no warning and with two babies and a toddler this wait time is an absolutel no for most parents. There are not enough adjectives to write how disgusting our breakfasts were.
