Came In for my best friend and mums birthdays which we had stated in our booking, we arrived 10 mins early and were shown to our table. It then took 40 minutes for us to get a tea and coffee and 50 minutes to be served our afternoon tea. There was no one around to ask for further drinks or water etc, all the staff were completely out of sight and when we were served our food and drink they seemed in a rush to get us out of the way. Very disappointed as we had been here before and it was excellent but this time it really did disappoint.

Top-quality food and service at a very reasonable price. It was our first visit, but already a firm favourite. No shortcuts taken on the children’s menu either - same standard, just smaller portions. Looking forward to our next visit!

The afternoon tea that we had was very tasty and there was a vast variety of little treats. There were multiple different cakes which all tasted homemade and were very delectable and moorish - especially the chocolate brownie! The scones were also very nice and served warm with clotted cream & strawberry jam! Everything was cooked to a good standard and was of a very good quality, I definitely walked away full! The finger sandwiches were chilled, nice, and fresh! What’s more, the deluxe hot chocolate was a lovely treat: there were lots of marshmallows, plenty of whipped cream and the malteasers added a lovely crunch! Overall a very enjoyable afternoon tea and I can highly recommended! I definitely will return again in the future!

After many wonderful afternoon teas we have had here this is the second time we’ve been disappointed, the first we complained about the huge slabs of cake back in March and unfortunately although they were smaller slabs it was still all Cake, what happened to the delicate macaroon, the rocky road, the delicate pots of deliciousness, no staff asked us for top up of tea or coffee, so disappointing, that we all decided to find another venue next time, such a shame as this place is beautiful, we felt unimportant and invisible

Four of us went for a 3 course prebooked £31 each Christmas lunch on the 14 Dec. Only 2 other tables were in use, none had the Christmas lunch. After some wait, 3 had soup, the bowls came on large wooden boards which were too big for the table. The soup tasted OK. The main course for all was turkey. 2 requested no sprouts, no alternative veg was given. There were 3 slices of turkey, 3 small roast potatoes and some carrots hidden under the turkey. The plates were cold so the meal soon was cold. The waitress was informed, so the plates (with partly eaten food ) were removed and eventually replaced with hot clean plates, hot gravey and a bowl of hot veg including parsnips, beans and carrots. (should we have had this originally?). As one of our party has dementia and was getting rather aggitated by all of this, we did not complain further. The dessert was fine. We did get free hot drinks in compensation at the table, Prosecco was offered. I later complained to the hotel, but no reply has been received.

Living relatively locally and visited Romsey on a Friday market day and wanted somewhere off the main street for a light lunch with my husband. The bar area of The White Horse was perfect and we enjoyed a fish sharing platter along with a glass of delicious wine. Generous and well prepared from the pickles to tartar sauce (all freshly prepared and not out of a bottle). The staff were good and the cleaning of tables in between guests was also good. Lovely to get away from the busy high street and we will definitely be returning. The restaurant menu looked very good too.

Really disappointing meal. Food was poor quality and not what we have had here previously. We used to love this venue but it’s really gone down hill. Order was wrong but they realised but one dish for a course came out 20 minutes before the other finally arrived! Steak over cooked and potatoes cold. Not Recommended anymore sorry!

We came to the White Horse on the off chance they'd be able to do afternoon tea for our mums 70th birthday treat. We had tried another hotel and was treated like an inconvenience despite being told we didn't need to book! When we arrived we were greeted by a young lady that listened to our upset at the hotel. Zultan (sorry not sure of spelling) was sad to hear of our experience and made us feel so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, he arranged for afternoon tea to be made, the table was set beautifully and the service was 2nd to none. Our afternoon was quickly redeemed. We had a lovely time and the afternoon tea was really good. Thank you so much to all the staff that made our mums 70th afternoon very special.

A lovely relaxed atmosphere. The staff were professional and courteous. Our waitress gave us a full run down of the afternoon tea menu. There was no rush, you were allowed to enjoy the ambience and eat at leisure. A delicious selection of sandwiches, savouries, cakes and scones. With a choice of hot beverages. We couldn't eat it all, the selection was fantastic. All fresh ingredients. The scones were to die for, still warm, and served with a very generous amount of cream and jam. Thank you White Horse for making my mum's birthday so enjoyable.

Our annual visit for afternoon tea to celebrate daughter’s birthday. Thought the tea room usually full was rather quiet, we were only ones. Tea menu now gone just normal tea. The crunch came when our voucher was refused by new management. Asked to speak to General Manager who was the most Stoney faced intransigent individual I have ever come across! When I asked for a good will gesture to encourage our future support the answer was absolutely not!! When he eventually said ‘sorry’ it was void of any sincerity, he refused any further conversation and walked away! UNBELIEVEABLE! I booked afternoon tea for a few girlfriends to celebrate a wedding. I was so impressed with the quality, quantity and service. The staff helped make the day perfect by giving us such good service, keeping the tea flowing and offering more food! We couldn't finish what we had, we tried very hard as it was so good! The last time I booked they had run out of space and my only option would have been to hire a room, decided against that. My advice is book early, go mid afternoon and don't expect to want to eat much for the rest of the day!

A very disappointing and unsatisfactory experience whilst attending Afternoon Tea on Friday 4th November. I booked Afternoon Tea a couple of weeks ago for my mothers birthday, after looking at the reviews and photos online.Firstly, I want to make it clear that I am easy-going, and rarely complain or even write a review. We were booked for the 3:30 sitting, and upon arrival at 3:15 we were greeted and shown to our table. Firstly, we were taken along to the lounge which was incredibly dark, and seated in two chairs against a wall. There was a fireplace with no log fire lit, no background music and it felt really depressing, and quite drab if I'm being honest. For £36, you would expect a nice ambiance, or at least some background music. The hotel has a beautiful conservatory restaurant which is bright, with clear views into the cobbled street and courtyard....why don't they use it for Afternoon Tea? They describe your afternoon teas as 'enchanting', however maybe they should enforce that into the actual experience that is being delivered. In the end, we decided to leave and go somewhere else because it really didn't feel right. It didn't feel special to celebrate a birthday. If you are looking for Afternoon Tea, go elsewhere!

When we called to book for tea we requested a table at 3pm but we're told that tea was served at 1.30 or 3.30 so we booked for 3.30.We arrived at 3.25 and were given a table which had been reserved for us in a room with 2 other tables of people waiting and a couple halfway through their tea. They clearly had not been there 2 hours so something funny had happened with the bookings.A young waiter walked through a few times but conspicuously would not allow anybody to catch his eye. After about ten minutes a waitress came abd asked one table what kind of drinks they'd like. She ignored the other tables. She brought the drinks and then asked about what kind of scones and so on. Again she ignored the other tables. After she brought the sandwiches and cakes the whole painful process was repeated for the next table. Eventually at exactly 4pm we were asked if we'd had a chance to consider what drinks we'd like. I remarked that after waiting half an hour to be asked that yes we knew what we'd like. Not a hint of a sorry for the wait, she just took the order which appeared a few minutes later. Sadly no hint of an enquiry about the cakes so 45 minutes after we arrived, without having once been given any sign that we might be fed, we left. The staff seemed puzzled by our exit and did not offer any kind of apology or explanation for their bizarre service. The people who had tea seemed to be enjoying it and it looked nice. However there are dozens of nice places for tea where the service is more normal. We made a 2 hour round trip for this 'experience' solely because my wife thought it sounded 'nice'. I wished I hadn't bothered.

I took the older generation of the family for a special afternoon tea. We had the most amazing, decadent and sumptuous meal and everyone was impressed by the attention to detail at this venue. We had booked in advance for a 12.00 seating and the table was beautifully set outside in the courtyard when we arrived. The staff are very attentive and helpful while giving you plenty of space to relax and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. The food was fantastic with a wide selection of sandwiches, cakes and of course scones. The selection of tea was vast and I really liked that you were served hot water and able to make your own tea as and when you required a cup and you could decide on the strength of your tea for every single cup. You are also able to enjoy any kind of coffee as part of your afternoon tea experience if you prefer.Hot water and coffee were served multiple times and we also had one of the non-alcoholic cocktails which was beautiful to look at and very tasty. If you are unable to finish it all the staff will arrange the cakes in beautiful little cake boxes to take home. We attended a wedding at the White Horse so decided to stop over for two nights. We ate in on the first night which was a good choice. The portions were just right, you could enjoy a three course meal without feeling stuffed! The quality and presentation of the food was very very good. The staff were excellent. Breakfast was equally well presented albeit I've had fuller full English breakfasts, but with coffee and toast refills on tap neither of us went hungry. The wedding venue was ideal, plenty of space, great finger buffet and good choices of wine. Plus the bar for fancy cocktails. Couldn't find any faults. Our room, 101, was spacious, clean and well appointed. Bathroom was huge! And as Romsey is a quite market town being at the front of the hotel wasn't a problem. Bed was comfortable; again nothing to fault. One word of caution the few steps down to the bathroom were very narrow.Overall given the age of the original building everything is in excellent order but if you're unsteady on your feet mind the old staircase! Whether staying or thinking of having your wedding there or both you can't go far wrong if our experience is anything to go by. Enjoy, we did!

just had afternoon tea here and it was fabulous, the cakes were excellent and before we started the waiter advised we could have a doggy bag for anything we didn't manage, wow so many cakes and so lovely. lots of choice in regards to teas, staff were attentive and friendly, lovely room albeit a tad dark but oh so relaxing and had a real charm will definitely visit again as it beat Rhinefield house big time and I would say more relaxing than the ritz

Took my friend for a Birthday treat, and the afternoon tea itself and the staff and service were wonderful. However I was disappointed we were shown to an empty dark lounge where we sat on our own until one other couple eventually came in. Whilst I appreciate they can't help the number of people there, when we came to pay the bill I had to go into the bar, which was bright and full of people, and I would have liked the option to have had our tea in there. Perhaps this is something that could be offered, especially if the lounge is likely to be empty? I realise some people would prefer a dark silent room, albeit very characterful, but I would have liked the option of a more lively atmosphere.

Lovely afternoon tea, especially the wide range of teas. Great customer service as well. Comfortable, old world coaching house ambience.

I arranged afternoon tea it was a special occasion my sister in laws 50th birthday, she along with my other guests enjoyed themselves immensely. As before when I have visited The White Horse hotel all the staff were very attentive and friendly, particularly the restaurant manager, and the afternoon tea was yummy.

We loved it here and it was great value. A great relaxing afternoon with sandwiches and lots of cake. We stayed all afternoon and the tea just kept on flowing and there was lots of choice. The homemade lemon curd was delicious

Last year my family and I had a wonderful cream tea on Christmas Eve so they all wanted to go back this year. Having been shown to our lovely table we had to wait over 15 minutes for a waiter to take our order. After a while our hot drinks arrived, except for the coffee which my son had ordered. Our cream tea followed some time later, still no coffee. This did finally arrive. Unfortunately the entire time we were sat there we had to put up with several children literally running and screaming up and down the corridor next to us... I have no idea who they belonged to as the parents were nowhere to be seen! I have 3 children myself so I am used to children, but found the constant screaming and shouting ruined our experience. The final thing that disappointed me was the abruptness of the man that took the money for our bill. He was quite rude and certainly lacked Christmas cheer.. A disappointing experience.

We absolutely love the afternoon tea here at Silks. It is £25 for two and we always take a doggie bag home with the cakes that we can't eat. Great food, great price and great environment. The last time we had afternoon tea we had it in the lounge which is so comfortable .... a bit like home.

Very posh and old-school in a lovely old lounge. The kind of thing you'd take your Mum to for a birthday treat. The service was excellent and the amount of food ridiculous (unless you're American) but they gave us doggy bags to take away what we couldn't eat.

I booked as a special treat a cream tea at this Hotel with myself and wife (was on special offer in January). We went on Bank Holiday Monday in April , you can book on line see :Capital Leisure Limited T/A Silks Hotels, The White Horse, Market Place, Romsey, Hampshire SO51 8ZJ, t 01794 512431 f 01794 517485 http://www.thewhitehorseromsey.co.uk Able to have a standard restaurant style setting or use a lounge with comfortable seating and low tables. We chose the latter, made very welcome and shown table, menu provide, many teas to make a choice from or coffee etc. . Cream tea meal provide was superb good choice of sandwiches, scones , jam, cream, plus a good assortment of various cakes .A very well done to all staff, very happy with service provided and spent a considerable time enjoying the time in fact could not finish to we asked if we would like to take remainder as a doggy bag .. Visited here for our customary “breakfast Friday” Came here 7 years ago when Pork Pie Sam Aldridge failed the Belly Gut Buster!!! I won’t lie! On that occasion the portion was big but the quality was poor. However this time, I can honestly say it’s one of the best breakfast we’ve ever had!!!! Everything was bang on and we were extremely happy with the offering. Had same great food ( fried bread was on point ) the staff were great and and we were full up like a tin can of crackers after. The apprentice Harvey was so impressed he tried to eat his fingers. And Bald Les took a shine to the lady behind the Eastern European Grol working the till All in All we had a great time, and next time we need a breakfast, some oil, and a hub cap we will be sure to pop in. Cheers and All The Best 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

We looked on Tripadvisor when travelling nearby and did a quick detour for lunch and are so glad we did! We (humans and a dog!) received a very warm welcome. I had the rainbow trout and I can honestly say it was the nicest meal I’ve had in a long time, my husband also very much enjoyed his steak pie. It made his day when he realised the fruit crumble was rhubarb as that’s always been his absolute fave! If in the area again we would definitely return!

Looks and feels like a pub, with comfy seating and fireplace, but the food was amazing and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Had a great meal here.
