My brother and I visited this pub as we were driving back from Tenby. After reading the previous reviews which were mixed, we thought we would give it try. The outside looks amazing, a stunning thatched roof building in a lovely setting. When you enter it's like going back in time, with an open fire, oak beams and plenty of interesting antiques and unusual items to keep you occupied. It has plenty of character and it is a quirky place. All of the staff were super friendly and the barman explained that they brew all their own drinks. My brother and I both enjoyed the Coles larger and it left a pleasant aftertaste. The food menu is extensive but no more than you would get in a Beefeater or other pubs and the prices are a little high for some of the items. We both ordered a chicken, stuffing and gravy baguette with a bowl of chips between us and that one bowl was enough for both of us. The baguette was lovely and crispy, the stuffing was nice but it could’ve had more chicken in it. The gravy came in a pot so you can add your own and that too was very tasty. Obviously this was my experience on that day and I couldn't fault them. Lovely pub, friendly staff, nice lager and good food. Just remember, if you pay a little more you are helping to maintain the local pubs which need the income unlike the mainstream restaurant

Not been to the White Hart for about twenty years, used to visit regularly when we lived in Carmel. Checked the reviews and was a bit surprised to see a few negative ones. Any way took a chance and turned up for a family meal last night. Pub looked great in the evening sun, just as we remembered it. Nice welcome from the bar staff, easy going atmosphere, sit where you like, and enjoy, was the message that came across. Cwrw Blasus did indeed, prove to be a tasty beer! The four of us all ordered different items from the extensive menu. Food was served quickly, was fresh and piping hot. Portion size would best be described as generous, we all cleared our plates, but no room left for dessert. Can only say thank you to the staff for the excellent service, great food and a proper friendly welcome. Will be happy to recommend the White Hart to all friends looking for a good place to go out for a meal. We will be back, won't wait twenty years for the next visit.

Called in unplanned for Sunday lunch. The pub is not dog friendly, so sat outside, this was ok as the weather was warm. Food ok, a bit bland. What annoyed me more was when I asked for some water for the dog I was told very bluntly they didn’t have anything to put any water in, so no😳 Won’t be returning

Many years since I was here last having lived in Sweden 19 years but the coles family kept it then. I was pleased to find that the quality of the food was as good as before. Party of 4 for Sunday lunch. The beef was exceptional and vegetables cooked perfect. Reasonable prices and a considerable amount of food. Brought back a few memories visiting again. Now of course they have their own micro brewery and being fond of testing new ales I bought a few to try and take back to Sweden. Recommend The white Hart IPA. Well done Coles family for exceptional food and service with a smile.

AESTHETICS OF PUB = 10/10 We were excited to visit this beautiful old thatched roof pub, from the outside the upkeep was to a high standard & inside was filled with traditional stone fire places, medieval furniture and lots of interesting antiques to look at FOOD = 2/10 The menus were extensive which always makes me a little wary about how they can perfect each dish, plus the menu was mega expensive!! I wasn’t overly hungry so asked for a child’s steak £10.99 but was told I had to order from adult menu so we ordered garlic steaks which were £29.99 each!! So we expected high quality food, great presentation and taste. The home made chips were ok, but we barely tasted the garlic butter, there was a lot of fat on the steak, mushrooms were ok, (no peas or onion rings!?) and a side plate of ‘salad’ which contained chunks of dry lettuce, dry pepper & dry white onion, hardly a salad!! Presentation was poor & disappointing & not worth £29.99, I would have priced that at SERVICE = 2/10 We arrived at 7.40pm & it said it closed at 10pm online. We looked around when we first arrived as there was so much to look at, we asked staff behind the bar about its history and they gave us a little information. We were rushed to order food before 8pm & our steaks arrived very quickly, poorly presented!! I’m a slow eater & before I’d finished my meal as we’re chatting, the family waitress was pacing up and down watching us between 8.30-8.50pm which made me feel I had to rush & get out so I wasn’t able to relax and enjoy my meal, the waitress then came over while I was still eating the chips and attempted to clear the food away, which I felt was extremely rude! Then they turned the music off & started turning some lights off, so we got up to leave even though it was advertised open until 10pm, we left at 9pm & they’d already locked the doors, we let ourselves out and someone came behind us & slammed the doors to lock them, so unwelcoming. It’s a beautiful pub with so much potential but the family service & food quality is very poor. I’d recommend they attend some customer service training, reduce the menu & either train the chef or employ a new one to improve

A beautiful little pub/restaurant found just 5 minutes off the A48 Carmarthen to Cross Hands. They were very happy to accommodate a table of 7 at very short notice after we had our reservation at Tafarn Y Pheonix cancelled because we didn’t realise pre-ordering their food was compulsory. However they did us a favour. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. The owners and staff were very warm and welcoming. My party had a wonderful evening and all have vowed to be visiting again.

we were travelling down on holiday and called in here to wait for our cottage to be available. The web site looks very good ,the place is very quirky and the beer is excellent. However some of the food is very poor. There was gang of us ,all ages from 2 to 72 all of which had something different. The chips were the same colour as raw potatoes and when asked for them to be more cooked and with a bit of colour we were informed that it could not be done because it was new fat ??? I must admit some of our group enjoyed their meals but the majority were unimpressed . The staff seemed very indifferent I do not think I would go back, sorry

We visited the pub as we were staying nearby. What a treat! It is such a quirky place, full of interesting antiquities and unusual items; all set in a stunning thatched building. All of the Staff (including the person I assumed to be the Manger) were super friendly and I can't imagine how the situation in the previous review came to be. We chatted for some time to the Staff about their brewing processes and various other things. They brew a lot of their own drinks and I can definitely recommend the dry cider, it was scrumptious! They have a little shop within the pub where you can buy gifts and their bottled products in gift boxes, so you can even take a little taste of Wales away with you. The food was really lovely home cooked food too and in good portion sizes (enough to feed our hungry teenagers!).

Me and a group of my friends were out for the day to go to the local show. I walked into the pub and needed to use the bathroom. I asked for the directions of the bathroom and was told by the owner “you’re not a customer of ours” I then said I would buy a drink before. I then went to the bar and was told “we’re not serving you” I asked why this was the case and was told “I don’t believe that you’re 18” bare in mind I am 23. I said I can show my ID and the owner repeated himself that he didn’t believe that I was of age. I was shocked as I had only just walked into the pub. I live about 15 minutes away from the pub but have never been before. The owner was raising his voice from behind the bar and asked me to leave. At no point did I raise my voice or get angry. I was just a bit shocked. I then went outside as my friends were waiting outside. I told them about what happened. The owner then came outside and asked us all the leave and shouted that he would not be serving us. I’d image the owner looked at us and because of our age thought we would be trouble. I would agree with the situation if one of us had done something wrong but it was myself that went in and didn’t absolutely nothing. The owner then started raising his voice outside and made a big scene of it. We by this point were angry and were arguing back as not one of us caused any issues for this ordeal to happen. My girlfriend who was with me at the time has been to the pub many times for food. She has said she will not be going back again as it is unacceptable the way we were treated. I know a few people from the village who refuse to go to the pub as they have had previous issues with the same owner. I think the owner was Rude, Aggressive and to be honest, just a horrible man.

Sat outside in sunshine and in the beer garden and we enjoyed a cool madri lager from the tap. Hosts really friendly and hospitable who made us feel welcome. The menu is incredible from a roast dinner to every type of pub grub you can enjoy, I had chicken salad which was huge and lovely crusty bread and my wife had a huge ploughman’s lunch. The setting in the front beer garden terrace was relaxing and really comfy large tables and chairs and parasols . Would definitely come back soon with friends and enjoy a lovely setting in a really good pub.

Made contact to book a table but told to come along they would accommodate. Covid guidance followed throughout during this challenging time. Normal daily menu and a special to chose dinner from. It's a traditional large quirky pub technically so very hearty, wholesome meals served. For eg. Steaks, pies, homemade curries, burgers, cod pasta pizzas. The specials menu consisted of similar dishes. The highlight I'd say was the whole trout served with their best homemade chips. I dont eat chips often so it was worth the journey from Ammanford area just to munch on these beauts. Service was lovely, friendly local family. A lovely evening.

I agree with some comments as some meals on the menu can be a little highly priced. However the more expensive meals tend to contain more expensive items. The food at this establishment is always lovely and the portion large, just as a hearty pub meal should be. I’d also like to highlight to those who complain of price that we are not just paying for the items on our plate, the service etc but for the tables, chairs, crockery we eat off, the washing of same, lighting, heating, use of toilet, the water, hand wash, dryer and paper towels, sanitary bins, nappy bins, commercial waste bins, toilet rolls, laundry of tea-towels, interior decor, the thatched roof, business rates, VAT, staffing, insurance oh need I go on, the list is endless. Not to mention 24//7 commitment.I have no problem waiting for my food to be prepared and I don’t expect the speed of a fast food establishment where items are cooked on mass, left standing and served regardless and often compatible in price. However I don’t think I’d wait 3 hours for my starter and if I had a complaint I’d make it at the time to give the establishment a chance to rectify it. That said I’ve visited here for many years and never had reason for complaint. My only bug bear with this establishment is that I need to drive from Llanelli to visit and I can only sample a half of their cider.Maybe that’s unfair, I can’t hold you responsible for that. Thank you so much for providing a beautiful, welcoming establishment, good hearty food and fabulous drinks. Well done.

This is a lovely restaurant, and we have always enjoyed our meals here before. But yesterday was the final night of the £10 meal assistance from the government. We hadn't taken advantage of this opportunity but as it was a bank holiday, with decent weather, we decided to take our daughter and granddaughter out for for a treat. You couldn't book due to seating restrictions (so they said) so we queued outside, which was ok as it was dry. Everyone was being told to find a table so there was no social distancing during this process. More of a free for all. Some tables were marked 'out of use due to Covid' to maintain some kind of seating distance. There were notices saying expect to wait over an hour for food, which was worrying. We ordered a couple of starters to share in case the food was a while in coming, along with 3 T bone steaks (around £24 each), 2 med rare and one medium, and a child's curry (£9.50), plus drinks. I was told the total would have been £137.00 but it went down to £87.00 with the £10 assistance. He put down that we were 5 on the table or he said the discount would not apply. However the total was still not cheap for 3 adults and an 8 year old. When the steaks arrived, mine was dry and cold. The waitress said the barman had written down 3 medium, but mine was cooked beyond a medium. In the end I decided to send it back. They brought me a replacement quite quickly, and it was med rare, but it was so stringy I couldn't cut it, and I certainly didn't want to eat it. We were all very disappointed with our food, and feel that the restaurant had purchased substandard steaks, but still charging customers a premium price. My husband did complain before we left, and all he got was 'sorry'. As it is, the dog really enjoyed our left overs, but I'm not sure we will every go back there. It's a lot of money to come away feeling so disappointed.

Anyone who has taken advantage of the government’s offer of cheap food and then moan on here and in the pub about having to wait is appalling. The staff are working their butts off to try to provide the best food and alcohol to the public whilst delivering the best service yet are confronted by rude arrogant people. They have obviously spent a small fortune on the new front seated area outside to accommodate more patrons. We have literally just got back, from a family of four, who arrived at 6pm, had to queue with the other patrons and placed our food and drink orders, we then had our food and the quality was, as always, top notch. The staff are trying their best to serve as many people as possible, if people want to go out in the current climate, then a bit of patience and manners will go a long way to make the evening enjoyable for you and the staff. The food is still great, and you can enjoy the evening with the ambience and everything else that makes this place so great, keep up the great work guys & gals, it is noticed and appreciated.

Thinking of a quaint, local restaurant to visit after lockdown, we thought we’d visit the White Hart Pub in Llanddarog. Our first impressions were positive. We arrived at 6:40pm, thinking we’d wait no longer than and hour for our food, (satisfactory in my experience). Ordered was a starter of Nachos, with a Combo Grill and The White Hart chicken to follow as our mains. We also ordered one mixed berry cider, and a lemonade. In the meantime, we had moved from table 67 to table 23, after having asked the bar man if it was ok. Having waited over and hour for our starter, I thought I’d double check to see when our food was arriving. The response I received was “it will be ready when it’s ready”. There was no apology issued at this point. I sat back down at the table, and then waited a further hour and a half for our starter. In the meantime, my partner had gone up to order another drink, (which was given complimentary for waiting), and to ask again where our food was. The bar man went to check where our order was, then to be asked on his return, “what did you order, we can’t find it anywhere”. After waiting nearly three hours for our starter, our Nachos arrived in a sorry state but we were told that a fresh batch would arrive shortly. Me and my partner did not eat the first lot of nachos as they were inedible. 20 minutes later our main meals came. And it is safe to say that they were not of standard. My white hart chicken was cold and the mushrooms were not cooked. My partners combo grill was completely overdone when he asked for it to be medium rare. The chips for the both of us were cold, resulting in us leaving the majority of the food on the plate. After a long night we left with the anticipation to complain in the morning as we didn’t arrive home until midnight. I emailed “bestpubinwales@btconnect.com” explaining everything stated above and that we were very unsatisfied with our experience in the white hart and was not responded too. I phoned this evening to follow up my complaint and was confronted with complete unprofessionalism over the phone by the recipient on the other side of the phone. I explained politely that we would like a refund but due to the attitude and defence over the phone i found it easier to hang up and have been left with no other choice that to write this review. The pub itself is run very unprofessionally and the dealings I have had with the owner has left me rather annoyed and unhappy with the service. I have been declined my request of a refund and was shouted at over the phone and was unable to get a word in edgeways. They clearly have bitten off more than they can chew as far as the eat out to help out scheme goes and the quality and service proved that immensely. I do not recommend you visit this pub as the behaviour and attitude towards their customers is disgraceful.

Disappointing. The food was overpriced and the wait was 30 minutes more than stated when ordering. This would not have mattered but the quality of the food was significantly below par. When the bar staff were approached about the Nachos that had been burnt and baked in to the paper underneath, I was told this is how it should come. For £7.50 I (and clearly others visiting that night who had the same thing to say) expect a better standard than that, especially form a pub that boasts Welsh pub of the year, albeit form 1974.This could all have been forgiven except for the fact the bar staff then went to moan to the kitchen staff about my complaint, with me standing not 10 feet away.

Firstly on a positive note this is a beautiful thatched pub with ample parking and a qweerky decor which suits the style of the pub. The family running the pub were very welcoming and the in house produced beers, whisky, rum and Gin will rival any craft produce from around the UK. The food was generous in portions but that is sadly where it ends. The menus was as expensive as some high end restaurants ive been too but the quality was not as good. I had the duck in Orange sauce which while the duck was cooked well and tasty, the skin was flabby and there was salad and Coleslaw on the plate and the chips were what you would get in the average chip shop at best. Average price of a main was £15-20 which I would expect a better quality meal for but with the government substity scheme in operation for this month the meal cost (to me) was more what I would have expected to pay for the standard of food I was served so I left reasonably happy but would be unlikely to return once the scheme has ended.

We called in at the White Hart, a beautiful old inn, dating from 1217, or thereabouts, in a lovely village outside Carmarthen. The menu is very varied, pub food, with roasts every day. We had a turkey and cranberry baguette and cheese and ham ciabatta which came with salad and coleslaw and were extremely generous portions. The Merlin stout, brewed on the premises, is absolutely delicious. One of the best I’ve tasted. The pub is full of atmosphere with traditional, local furnishings and is lovely to look at in all ways. A very pleasant welcome and good service completed our lunch. Highly recommended!

Very expensive, so decided not to eat here. Only had a one rating as the pint I had tasted funny and the guy behind the bar was quite rude. So, after seeing the prices of the food we decided to leave

Visited as many of the nearby pubs weren’t running a full food service in the period between Christmas and New Year. While the menu and the decor has a bit of an old fashioned feel about it, the food was really good and inline with modern pub fare. I had the burger - the patties were handmade and very tasty (although slightly overdone for my preference), the melted cheese was lovely and the bacon thick and tasty. My father had the steak special - a very generous 8oz piece (I think it was bigger) served on a sizzling plate; had to take it off to make sure it didn’t keep cooking!Service was quick and the gent behind the bar friendly enough. It’s clearly a family affair which is nice. The in-house brewed beer was very good; a nice smooth ale went down nicely. They take debit cards but not credit cards (I assume they pay more fees or have a bigger risk of charge backs for the business). Will definitely return when I’m next in Wales :)

Popped into their brewery shop at the rear of this wonderful old pub to stock-up with beers for Xmas! Lovely people with a warm welcome and a great selection to choose from. We also bought thier own red wine and gin so result! We decided to stay for lunch which was freshly cooked, great selection and we all really enjoyed topped off with great service!

Always well worth the visit. As someone has said it is a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.Always a fantastic meal with bigger than normal portions. You can get cheaper elsewhere but not the same quality or size.Only down point for me is that every time we visit I spend too much. This,of course, is my fault as the family have a brewery and distillery on site and as I like their products I always end up spending quite a lot of money.Luckily we live about 35 minutes from the pub and only visit for special occasions. We will continue visiting this pub and look forward to each visit.

We came here for a ‘date night’ Saturday evening. The staff were very friendly and welcoming but the menu is pretty poor. Prices are very high! £15ish for a chicken burger, £16 for gammon, most bar meals around the area are a lot less than that.I asked for the Mexican chicken burger but to have it not too spicy is possible but the owner very politely told me that that couldn’t be done (which tells me they’re perhaps frozen?), well anyway he did say I could have the chicken goujons (that they offer in the starter menu for around £7) in my bun instead. I didn’t think at the time as my husband went to pay but upon reflecting after I got home... I realised we were charged £15 for three chicken goujons in a bread roll and a small portion of chips with it. The garlic bread was to die for but £4.65 it definitely should be nice! My husband had the pie and that was nice too but again pretty pricey. On top of this also, they don’t accept credit cards. It was lucky we had brought our debit card. This could be a fab pub as the interior is very traditional and homely and the outside is very sweet and inviting. I really hope they can revise some of their menu prices. Based on the poor value for money we won’t be returning. It’s a shame though as the staff were so nice. Beth

This is a beautiful old pub and worth visiting for a look. However, we thought the food was just ok. The owners brew their own ciders which we thought were average. The Coles stout was delicious.

The building was not as I remembered, the hanging baskets and pots outside looked neglected, my gin was undrinkable (I was told it was their own in-house blend, I was not offered an alternative) and the Sunday Lunch was very disappointing for the price point. Having taken friends out for a meal we were embarassed by our experience. The gin was sent back ,our cutlery which was dirty had to be replaced , the owners behind the bar had grubby t - shirts on and the duck sissler speciality with a supposed orange sauce had sissled away by the time it arrived.the meal was v overpriced and extremely disappointing. The ambience was good but didn't compensate for the overall experience.we won't go back in a hurry!

So so disappointed. My elderly parents were refused small meals for a start. They were already purchasing 3 other meals. The peppercorn sauce was unedible. They have been on several occasions and always spend well in the brewery. I thought thier custom was more valued than this. Has put us off returning unfortunately.

My parents are regular visitors here but we’re not happy with the attitude of the staff when asked if they could do ‘ child portions’ for my elderly parents in their 80’s who can’t eat much , were told in no uncertain terms NO and asked for peppercorn sauce with their steaks and were given some concoction of what tasted like a mix of beer and sour cream which spoiled the meal completely. We have had no trouble like this in the past, where it was our parents favourite place to go ! we have had family get togethers too but we won’t be going back there ! My parents a,ways buy gifts in the shop too but said the attitude of the boss gentleman was most unhelpful, unfriendly, un accommodating and more money orientated than in past , they were both saddened and disappointed. They don’t mind paying the prices for what is usually a lovely meal but it wasn’t on this occasion and maybe you should look at a “ SENIOR CITIZEN ‘ size portion for those unable to eat a large adult size meal as other places seem to do this .

Lovely place but the food leave a lot to be desired. I had The T Bone and it looked huge on the plate but was very thin. This caused it to be very very over cooked. I asked for medium but it was very well done. Steak was ruined but I was with a large group so did not want to wait for a new one to be cooked. It should have been correct the first time around for 23 quid! The only redeeming factor was the nice home made chips! All in all I would not recommend this place if you are a steak lover

Poor quality tasteless meat. Large thin portion with very little taste. The fat still white with no caramelisation. Rather nasty taste to the oil used to cook their chips. Sent it back to have it charred a little more but no improvement in the taste. Husband had their cod and he remarked on the strange taste with the oil. Think the steak would have been better braised in a casserole or used in a pie.this establishment needs to review their supplier of beef. It's quality not quantity that counts. At £19.00 for the dish I expect better. Didn't eat more than four bites of the meat and two chips were more than enough then left the rest. The manager was unconcerned that I'd not eaten my lunch.

Family run pub and very friendly traditional inside and out and nice that the tables were well set so no crowding. Not sure if we would return due to pricing as the meal didn’t really warrant the cost even though it was nice.

We entered with caution after reading other reviews but we shouldn’t of worried. The welcome and the ambiance was warming, the roaring log fires on a windy winters day were also welcoming. I was spoilt for choice with the menu and opted in the end for a roast beef dinner. OMG it was proper tidy, no way was anything on my plate packaged or processed. The array of vegetables was amazing and all cooked to perfection. And I wish I could cook a Yorkshire Pudding to that standard. One regret was not taking photos as proof. Will definitely go back for more.

Visited in expectation for a wholesome, traditional homemade Sunday roast, but I can only describe it as hospital food. Absolute waste of money. We decided to leave our food after eating two bits and go elsewhere. Chicken bistro gravy, what I can describe as smash and sliced packet meat from a supermarket. Feel absolutely gutted and it wasn’t exactly cheap either. Mass produced rubbish and I normally eat anything especially when starving!!! Sorry but won’t be visiting again.

The furniture and decorations are straight out of the 18th century and give a great antique look. A display of brewing beer is located at one entrance with a video on a loop with a loud soundtrack. The menu seems to be split with normal pub food at reasonable prices and fancier fare at exhorbitant rates. The drinks here are overpriced so check the prices before ordering. The waitress was entertaining with her repartee and sharing plates for one was no problem.

Sadly while we enjoyed our meal which was well presented our visit was badly tainted when, just before leaving an elderly couple entered the pub asking to use the toilet. Three times the request was made each time being told that the pub was closing (3.30pm) and they had to leave without being able to use the toilet. As the gentleman was said to be "desperate" it seemed unfair to have been refused. Shame on the batman/owner who refused!

Staying in Crwbin for a week, we visited twice, and have to say the food was amazing on both visits. For anyone on a diet or who can't face large meals, please ask for smaller portions as their meals are enormous, but absolutely wonderful. We called this week for some lunch, the weather was beautiful and setting with the church behind just lovely. There were three of us and as we were all driving we opted for soft drink, half a soda water with lime, half a coke and half a lemonade with orange. The round came to £8.50! We were flabbergasted so went to ask thinking a mistake had been made - I was told it was correct and and not to be rude!!! Whilst sitting outside in complete shock we each phoned a pub, one in Tenby, one in Cardiff & one in London - the most expensive being for a soda & lime £1.60!!

Love the coffee at Costa. Only 4 stars gir food, not because the quality isn't great, rather too pricy for me. The atmosphere? My Costa is one of those quick build buildings, metal with a vaulted roof, sounds like a bees nest when everyone is chatting away.

Very dissapointed with this place. Tables were cleared but had not been wiped down after the previous customers. Food was OK and would have had better burgers and chips from McDonald's, and that says something. Salad in with burger was that old it had dried up 🫣 Was a long wait for food but was informed of this when ordering. Staff hanging around as if they weren't aware of their job start with helping with the long queue the one member of staff had at the till or even giving the tables a wipe down. Sadly we wont be returnuing and we do hope management will sort the issues.

Ordered a beautiful cake to help celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. Jemma was extremely helpful in my making a decision from the overwhelming number of ideas and ingredients available. As my mother is a diabetic I decided on a two tier cake with fresh berries. Jemma made the top tier with diabetic ingredients so everyone at the party could enjoy. It was scrumptious and three days later gone!! Thank you Jemma. Terrific cake. If anyone is looking for that special celebratory cake, I can’t recommend Got Cake enough!!
