The Caraway in Carmarthenshire

Very dissapointed with this place. Tables were cleared but had not been wiped down after the previous customers. Food was OK and would have had better burgers and chips from McDonald's, and that says something. Salad in with burger was that old it had dried up 🫣 Was a long wait for food but was informed of this when ordering. Staff hanging around as if they weren't aware of their job start with helping with the long queue the one member of staff had at the till or even giving the tables a wipe down. Sadly we wont be returnuing and we do hope management will sort the issues.

Took the family for a meal, and from the moment we arrived the service was amazing, made to feel so welcome, food was lovly couldnt fault the chef at all. Thank you to the chef and the chap behind the bar.

Tonight I visited the restaurant with my family as a table of six and couldn’t be more complimentary of the manager who not only welcomed us in to the restaurant but also served us drinks, food and everything else all by himself. It was quite busy for a Tuesday evening and he was alone working other than the chef, serving all of the tables and doing other jobs such as cleaning down etc with such a positive and happy energy. Nothing was too much for him and not once did he give off any negative or stressful vibes. The food was served boiling hot & the service was 5*. Thank you very much!

We call here regularly now. Each time we do the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The menu is extensive and plenty to choose for everyone. The food is always tasty and affordable. This is why we come here. Keep up the good work guys.

Visited here ,coming from Swansea , Informed us gas was off so limited menu But didn’t disappoint,,GAS BACK ON ,so cooking on GAS Great atmosphere Great staff Really helpful and friendly CHILDREN LOVED THE PLAY AREA. VERY SAFE NOT A WASTED CHIP IN SITE CLEAN PLATES ALL ROUND PLUS DESERT ROB and Mikey ,really pleasant hosts We will revisit soon

We have over the years had varying levels of service here but I have to say tonight was absolutely fantastic. We took our recently rescued dog for his first evening out in a restaurant atmosphere and could not fault the service at all! The food came quick and was lovely and hot. We ordered the BBQ wings for a grazer followed by a Cowboy burger (delightful!) and an 8oz sirloin steak. Both were absolutely delicious. We were thrilled to see there was also a dog menu so we ordered Rocco a sausage and burger it came in a non slip dog bowl which was very considerate considering the laminate floor! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, we hope to be back with you soon! ☺️

Even though we booked a table for my birthday meal, on arrival we were told there was a 50minute wait on food. We ordered drinks and food, again informed about the waiting time, we were kept updated on time of food wait. Food arrival was shorter than expected and was very tasty. Wasn't impressed with dessert, but our overall experience, we were very pleased with our evening at The Caraway Carmarthen, Thank you

Solid. Had to move due to screeching kid, the kind of screeching scream that cuts through bank vaults, parents didn't give a toss obviously but not the establishments fault. Good food. Service ok. Atmosphere ok. It's a Marston's. Prices 10-15% too high imo.

Arrived with a minibus of special needs on a bank holiday weekend with no booking. Staff weren't panicked, they stayed cool and were very accommodating. Found us a large table, food arrived fast and everyone enjoyed their meal. Take my hat off to the guy behind the bar, he was brilliant.

Pre-booked a table for 12, was suggested we preordered our meals to avoid disappointment. We were far from disappointed, food arrived within 10 minutes of sitting. Service was perfect. Will definitely be returning.

Was picking up a keg from next door so booked a table for Sunday lunch. Food came quickly and was hot, beef was very soft and the rest was very good too. Peroni was very good and staff friendly, easy parking. Will come again, got to give credit where credit is due.

A friendly welcome good atmosphere

Food was good but had to wait a while. The place wasn’t busy but there were a few dirty tables and a few reserved tables was told as we entered by the lady behind the bar don’t sit on reserved tables so we found a little table in the corner with no plates on…Was very disappointed with the service, the female who served us made us feel very unwelcome will definitely not be returning…..

Popped in for a quick bite to eat after shopping. The burgers were lovely unfortunately it was the service that was a huge let down. Was served by a female who was rude and unhelpful when ordering, practically threw plates down on the table when food arrived and couldn't even look at us. We put it down to having a bad day however she appeared very helpful and polite to the table opposite to us. Such a let down because we spent the hour wondering what we had done to offend her. Won't bother visiting again!

Lovely food, efficient and friendly service, and great music. Also a fair bit for little’uns to do with an outside play park and a movie inside with colouring area and toys - though not many of the battery-operated toys actually worked, but that’s pretty standard. Recommend the burgers, veg chili and pizzas.

Terrible food Sticky tables and bar

Staff extremely helpful. Explained they had a large party in and that food waiting times were slightly delayed. We ordered pudding at the same time as the main so we weren’t waiting for a longer than needed time. The food portions were more than adequate. The children, my partner and myself all enjoyed the food. I will definitely be back

The food took a while but it was worth it. The beef madras was delicious and so was the pizza.

Ordered 3 dinners. 3 dinners came out quick, hot and nicely done. Pudding x 3, came out just as nice. Staff helpful and we're always looking to tidy tables quite quickly. Toilets clean.

Caraway Carmarthen. Sirloin was grisly and hunters chicken was dry. Both in edible. We’re given our food not cutlery. Then weren’t asked if we wanted anything sauces butter for the jacket potato. No one came to ask if the food was ok. Then we waited for 25-30mins with the plates in front of us and they didn’t come to clean them away, I had to call them over. Explained about the service (lack of) and the poor quality of the food. The man who served us, said he had been busy, and then said ‘what are you saying I haven’t been busy’ to which I responded with - ‘I am not saying your not busy’. I explained the other person serving did ask everyone she served if they wanted anything and checked they were happy with the food, but you didn’t. I explained this is extremely poor service. To be told, you are just going to disagree with everything I say. I again explained I am explaining the food and service were extremely poor. No offer of any meaningful apology or compensation. If you go to the caraway try not to be served by the man with the grey long beard. He is extremely rude and needs to be trained in customer service.

I've been here a few times and some of the staff don't pay attention too customers like they should...it gets three stars and that's due too customer service. Three star rating...manners and real friendliness cost nothing so guys up your games and also lower the prices a little

Pre booked a table before heading to see a film with my daughters, got told as soon as I arrived there was a long wait on food as they had recieved loads of walk ins, we sat in an empty part of the restaurant and the rest was sparcly populated! We ordered food straight away as we couldn't risk missing the film, but at 6.45pm, no roast dinners on a Sunday and apparently gammon seems to be popular as well so my daughters opted for the rump steak. They were cheap so I wasn't expecting a prime cut, but edible would have been an acceptable standard, both were ordered as medium to well and both turned up nearly an hour later as very well to cremated, one so well done it had a thick layer of scolding on the base and couldn't even be cut properly with the steak knife! We were already short on time for the film due to the waiting time on food so couldn't ask for them to be recooked, never been served food this bad in a marstons and won't be giving them a second chance, tried it's best to ruin what should have been a nice family evening!

Unable to have our meal we booked a table for 6 and told it would be an hour wait! We had to leave as we had tickets for the theatre 7.30

Waited behind a customer to be served when she was served the man with a small pony tail decided on wiping down a table left me standing waiting for at least 10 mins then a woman came and said do you want anything at that point I was ready to walk out but cos I had my granddaughter with me I carried on can I have food please ,what you want she said at this point I was boiling inside how could you get treated like this well food came 35 mins later for pizza and chips and scami nothing special for 27 pounds I don't mind paying but for the attitude of staff it will be a no no for me when I spoke about this to my colleagues in work the next day the amount of people who have said bad things about the place. A bit of advice look after your customers with a smile and a lot of care because without customers your nothing

A lovely pub, food was excellent, best chips ever had out!

It was quiet but tables were either reserved or not cleared away. Had to clear a table myself. It also smelled strongly of urine. Food was nice, service ok.

The food arrived after 35 minutes. Plate was hot, food was Luke warm, burger had no actual taste, and the mixed grill was a very sorry plate of chewy rubber beef, boiled chicken with mushrooms and raw grilled tomatoes and cold peas that didn’t help hide the severe lack of meat. Chips were greasy and inedible. No waiting staff to complain too. Won’t be returning.

This review is based on years of visits between 2014-2022. The Caraway is a budget oriented establishment. The venue is spacious and the atmosphere is generally good. Food quality is variable, depending on what is selected. Personally, I found steaks - ribeye when available - to be the best bet. Service has also been variable, depending on staff on the day, but has generally been acceptable to excellent. Dining experience was frequently marred by smokey pizza oven emitting fumes into customer areas, but to my knowledge, this issue has been addressed. There's a good selection of lager and bitters on tap. Soft drinks are nicely chilled. As a bonus, there are pleasant beer gardens and outside play areas, making it popular with families. If you are passing through Carmarthen looking for a reasonably priced place to dine in, The Caraway might be worth a punt - but to get there, you have to pass Macdonald's, Dominos, Subway and Kentucky Fried Chicken - so it really depends on what you're after. If you want to enjoy your food with an alcoholic drink, this might seal the deal.

So sad that our food wasn't up to your usual standard today. Cold steak. Dry hunters chicken Hard rolls And quite a wait for our food. Very disappointed

went with my partner and the little one such lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. food was stunning compliments to the chef! my partner had a mixed grill which was amazing portion size for the price i had the hunters chicken absolutely beautiful. waitress behind the bar alishia helped us throughout and was lovely with the little one showed him to the kids play area they had netflix on for them and toys etc lovely to distract whilst we had a nice meal. 100% will be returning stunning pub x

Very disappointed. Have been here many times over many years, but this was definitely the worse. Starter consisted of 4 small cheese bites, £5.50, definitely not good value. The main meal was ok, on the burger, the sauce was missing and no lettuce, just rocket. The food was hot, which was a plus. The staff were not particularly friendly compared to previous visits.

Place was empty with only around 20 people in the whole place (was Friday lunchtime) food arrived after 1hr 10min had passed (only 1 other table ordered ahead of us) Chicken was dry, overcooked & tiny (but it was a cheap £8 meal) staff only came to the table after my mum complained. They said they only had 1 chef. Chips are like sticks & probably take 8mins to cook & meat options looked pre packaged & warmed in oven so not justified by the 70min wait. 20% off offered was my NHS disocunt! Drinks expensive Pepsi pint £3.85 so WON’T be returning or recommending! Overall disappointing experience.

Was told at the bar 45min wait for food, accepted this. Food took over 1hr to come to the table, didn’t expect much for £8 a meal but hunters chicken was tiny, dry & chips were just sticks! Drinks expensive (pint coke £3.85 & was flat. Brian (man bun behind bar) claimed to also be one of the chefs said they were short staffed and only 1 chef in the kitchen - there were a maximum of 20 people in the whole place today with only 3 orders before us! Said we wouldn’t be returning. Was given 20% disocunt on payment (which was my NHS equivalent disocunt) better than nothing. Brian needs a new watch as his must be running slow! he said it was 1hr 6min wait for food but it was close to 1hr 20min. Will NOT be returning.

First time in about 8 years going here and we were pleasantly surprised considering the reviews aren't that great. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch and they accept blue light card too 😊

Excellent stop just off A40 at Carmarthen. Charged the car, had lunch and moved on to West Wales. Cheerful helpful staff took great care of us, an elderly couple one with disability

The reply from the Caraway is a little disingenuous, depending on your interpretation of "busy" but I feel our views differ somewhat. Sent help..... Sat a table 23 waiting for over an hour for food! All new customers are being told the wait is 40 minutes...... So bad you have to smile!

Food was overcooked and took a long time, even though it didn't seem that busy. Choice of food appalling, many items on the limited menu not available. Out of the vegan options, only one was available.

Called here for food after visiting St David's Cathedral. 3 of the 4 meals was very nice. There was a steak which was uneatable. Tough and too chewy. We mentioned this and only received an apology, a discount on the food should have been given.

Took ages trying to order on the app, prefer to go to bar and order. Drinks tasted bland and watered down. Food was excellent. I had megaburger, which was delicious. I don't like French fries, would have preferred traditional chips. Wife had sirloin steak, she was very happy with how it was cooked. Her meal came with traditional chips. Atmosphere? Well it's a British chain pub, they are all practically identical - red carpet, dark oak furniture, so doesn't score highly there. There are good daily deals though. Thursday is a steak and a drink for £12 which is pretty good. This was a return visit for us, because the food outweighs the naff decor

Having to wait hours for food, not good. An hour wait for your main meal, and another hour for your pudding. Not good. The staff that served us were absolutely fantastic, but clearly very stressed out to the maximum. More staff is what's needed.

Awful. Dried up chicken breast the size of a quail. No sauce. Piece of bacon no bigger than my finger. A cold cooked half of tomato with a few rocket leaves counts as a side salad and a dozen chips. Don’t bother you’ll be better off going to McDonalds next door

Awful customer service by the management and staff pub was quiet yet a fuss was kicked up about trying to seat 9 of us as if the didnt want the work. Told to order using Qr code, food arrived in a timely manner all the grilled food was very over charred, burgers and buns over charred some food cold. Overall not a good experience definitely wouldnt recommend.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! Staff are so rude! Rude beyond anything. If you don’t like your job find another one. On arrival the place was dead, asked for a table for 9 but were different families so would have sat separately. And instantly the lady with black hair asked if we had booked. She sighed and asked the manger I’m guessing (male, man bun) if it was ok for 9! He just nodded but looked annoyed. We ordered our meals on the table via the QR code as this is what they said we had to do. Even though other people were ordering at the bar! Food came and drinks and not one extra person came in, the place was dead. All the staff wanted to do was watch the football game. Food wasn’t great. Half of it was burnt. The chef came out to talk to the staff who were all stood chatting behind the bar and well his clothes were filthy. If I’d have known this I wouldn’t have eaten here. As a large company you’d want people in spending money as your jobs depend on it. I would suggest avoiding this place completely! Would not recommend this place at all!

The service was very quick, the 3 female front of house staff members were so lovely and welcoming. The food was amazing, i had the double cheeseburger which was beautiful and very reasonably priced. Drink service was also super quick!

Does not deserve any stars! Awful food, unfriendly staff, really bad service. Never coming back! Only a few tables and made to wait over 45 minutes for bad food. Ordered tomato soup - served in a big bowl with just 2 tablespoons of soup, looked more like a sauce dip than a £5 soup!! Looked like they couldn't be bothered to make any more soup and just served the little premade amount they had left. PURELY LEFTOVERS. Told the staff and they bought the soup back with added water (Bowl now filled halfway). Fish and chips were terrible. Staff standing around idle and ill-mannered, emotionless. Don't bother coming, just of waste of money and time. £80+ down the drain.

Lunchtime deal menu charged £8.00 for hunters chicken with chips and salad garnish. A handful of dried out rocket is not salad garnish. 11 chips each and barely visible cheese or bbq sauce on chicken. Very poor value. Chef really not interested in what is sent to table. Won't return.

Second visit, first was under new management a while ago, so I forgave the teething problems. Today although was different. Place looks very tired and needs a complete refurb. Children's inside play area is a joke. Paint peeling and garden furniture rusting and obviously left outside to rot. Ashtrays full and litter in undergrowth. Waited ages for the food which was poor in both quality and quantity, and over priced for what is basically fast food. I had ordered the lunchtime special, which is cheaper than the normal rate, which was obvious when it arrived as it was half the normal portion in size but dearer in ovrerall price. Thought they'd served us the children's portion by mistake!! Complete rip off, and will not be returning.

Ordered via qr code at our table, waited 45minutes for food to arrive- asked at the bar when ordering more drinks and informed food wait times about an hour. Food was mediocre at best- and whilst the staff did apologise about the wait (a chef didn't appear apparently), it was barely worth waiting 1hr 15minutes for. Would avoid unless you are desperate

The waiting time was poor but the food was decent.

Wow, place was empty yet still took 45 minutes for food to arrive. Turned up cold and overcooked. Plastic from the packaging was in the food as well as brown lettuce in the burgers. The beer was also flat. Bar staff were very impolite, it was like we are imposing on their time. No apology for the poor food standards.

Baguette was very burned. A really annoying thing is that I had a valid 30% discount and during ordering, there was nowhere to input the code :-( Not a good experience overall. Shame as the location is great as we travel pass it every weekend.

On two occasions now , we have dropped in unbooked, although today they were very busy with Mothers Day, they managed to squeeze three of us in for lunch. Lovely cooked and presented food. Probably the Manager who took our order who was very courteous and efficient behind the bar . Infact all of the team was courteous and very efficient. To be fair this experience was identical to our previous visit. Excellent all around.

Came to meet up with friends for food. Had previously been and had a great experience so we came back, and again the staff were so lovely and welcoming. Food and service was great and it’s so nice to be able to bring your dog, made the difference in that one of our gang could come as she could bring her 6month old pup. Lovely afternoon with great food, drinks and atmosphere!! We’re planning another visit soon!!

My wife, daughter and my self visited Caraway Carmarthen for lunch and really enjoyed the food and the friendly atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and polite and very helpful. We would recommend the restaurant and will definitely will go back again to eat.

Lovely food, great service, friendly and very accommodating

We had deep fried cauliflower and mushrooms to start. Baked potatoes, one with chilli con carne and one with beans and cheese. All really good.

Lovely friendly staff Clean place but prices are high considering how small the portion sizes are my husband jad 7 chips with his meal Chicken was only just cooked and.my daughters pizza was like a fun size one Based on this we wouldn't return
