A wonderful place! Dropped in with the family for an evening meal, close to closing time, but they were happy to serve us. I asked for apple juice for the kids, they'd run out, so they went and bought some from the shop and then included the kids drinks for free! Both the owners and the locals were incredibly friendly, the food was very high quality and large portions, very good value. We're not local unfortunately, otherwise I'd go here all the time!

Stopped for a quick bite on Friday night and had a very enjoyable meal. The South African salad was excellent and service was great.

I didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. Great place for a pint, with the kids on a sunny afternoon.🌞

We called in here on are way home last night what a amazing welcome and friendly atmosphere. From start to finish we were so well looked after. Don’t miss this little gem !!!

We stayed here the night before the Bantham Swoosh Swim. The landlord, Gareth, was super helpful and made sure our room and dinner plans were all sorted. We had dinner and this was great although Gareth explained they were a little short staffed so the place seemed a little chaotic as the night went on but in a funny, Fawlty Towers, way. The locals were good craic and the beer was good. The place was being renovated a bit as the present owners had only been in a month but this wasn’t too intrusive. Overall a funny, friendly and very welcoming place.

Good: food was tasty, well cooked and presented. Requires improvement: no offer to take & hang coats on arrival at the table so had to use chair backs, no wine list - 3 choices each of red white & rose wouldn't be too difficult to type up & print off? So no indication of price before ordering, bottles of wine (screwtop) placed on the table unopened, some staff frustration obvious when one of our party was taking longer to finish their main course, on requesting the dessert menu we were informed that they would be closing in 40 minutes - so 10.30pm on a Saturday night! Accordingly we declined to order desserts, brandies & coffees - so they missed out on potentially another £80 - £100 spend on the table. Local people will need to feel less underwhelmed in order to patronise this tenancy year round, and they need to recognise there are 2 other local establishments to which none of the above improvements apply.

A light lunch on Easter Sunday. Warm welcome on arrival. Excellent customer service. The food was absolutely gorgeous. Clean, fresh appearance and a wide selection of food too. The dessert menu was lush and adorable. I would recommend that you visit and eat and drink. They have accommodation too. Well done to the staff and management

Popped in on the way to Salcombe, what a fantastic find!! Had a couple of beers and I had a steak sandwich whilst my mate had Bubble & Squeak, both of which we enjoyed, my steak was perfect, which if I'm all honest I was sure whether to pick, but, was effortless to eat, side of crisps as well. Very friendly staff, chatty etc, it was quiet when we arrived as around 3, or just before, but I can imagine this would be quite lively especially if the food is to go on. Definatley visit again if I pass, but would recommend it

Wow! What an amazing Sunday lunch !! Have just had the best Sunday lunch at the white hart, new proprietors grant and Dan who have recently taken over the pub have done wonders in such a short time. Food was gorgeous and the staff went out of thier way to ensure we were all happy. Would definitely recommend and will be back. Well done guys !

New owners started 2 weeks ago and made us feel really welcome. The light bites they offered us, although simple, we're absolutely delicious! The ham and cheese toasties, cheesy homemade chips, and beef soup were all demolished by adults and fussy kids! Tea and coffee were much appreciated on a stormy day. Highly recommend a visit to support the new management.

We're local and never been here before until recently. Best food & service we've had for quite a long time (and we've eaten at a lot of places over the years!) Food was delicious, beef fillet was cooked to perfection. Staff and chef were lovely, personal and accommodating to food intolerances. Shall definitely be back for the Sunday roast!

Food here is the best you’ll find for miles. We had an amazing 3 course family meal while staying at the Pub visiting family locally. Dishes for everyone, kids loved it too. All the food locally sourced and is made in house by a talented well travelled and experienced chef. Right down to the burger buns and sorbets. Rooms were clean tidy and warm, just what was expected. Breakfast in the morning was the best we’ve had for a while, all freshly cooked to order with good quality ingredients. Definitely worth a visit and make sure you stay for dinner. Will be returning for sure. Thanks again.

As we were visiting the area anyway, we knew that we had to return to the White Hart Hotel, this time we both had the Sunday roast; the chef hasn't lost his art, wow, everything tasted devine. The biggest shame is that we live so far from the White Hart Hotel. See you next year. Post below from July. The chef really loves creating delicious food. I'm sure you can tell from the first statement how good the food is. I had ribeye steak, triple cooked chips, asperagus with a very delicious gravy, gravy doesn't seem to as impressive as how it tastes. I asked the chef about the gravy, it takes around 72 hours to make, boiling down the bones, adding vegetables etc etc. I seem to have focused on the gravy, not that it was needed, as the steak was firm and tender, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Triple cooked chips, what can I say, they are triple cooked. My wife had a beef burger with pulled pork, with fries. I was allowed a little bit of the pulled pork - amazing. My wife said that it was all lovely. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding - Mmm. I can't remember what my wife had, but I remember her saying it to was delicious. The full English breakfast with amazing. My wife had granola and fruit, followed by scrambled eggs on toast, it was all gone in moments it seemed, must have been good lol. If we were ever back in the area, we would make sure to go back.

We had a lovely lunch at The White Hart Hotel today. We booked a table expecting Friday to be busy but, in fact, we were the only ones there so we had a private dining experience! Such a shame because the restaurant deserves to be busy. The food was excellent. We opted for scallops to start followed by the rack of lamb and the beef short rib. We finished off with a serving of chocolate mousse which was delicious. The chef deserves full marks as does our waiter who was very informative about the ingredients. Please visit, it’s worth it!

We stopped for lunch. Nice place but by door we just had constant traffic noise. Went to order a Ploughman's and Monkfish Scampi. Told both unavailable. Had King Prawns and Chickenburger. We waited an HOUR. Other people after us had ordered, eaten their meals and left. When the food turned up it was poor. Sweet dipping sauce had been poured over the prawns and salad. The whole thing was a sweet gooey mess. No salad with chickenburger. It was like McD's. Really disappointed. Worst meal of the year.

Had the best Sunday lunch ever. Succulent tender beef, perfectly cooked tasty vegetables, lovely stuffing which I normally don't like, nice yorkies and delicious gravy. Service was excellent. Definitely worth coming back to.

Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Modbury. The food was absolutely delicious. My wife was allergic to one element of her dish and the chef swapped it out without any fuss. We shared a sticky toffee pudding (one of the best I've ever had) and the chef plated it separately for us to make it easier to eat. Couldn't fault the cooking or the staff. Refreshing to see the bill doesn't come with a service charge already added, we tipped anyone because everything was so good! We will be going back.

Sensational as ever. Enjoyed dinner here last night with work colleagues and friends. We were all extremely well looked after and enjoyed every delicious mouthful. Between us we had scallops, tempura prawns, chalk stream trout and scotch egg (White Harts unique variation) I tried everything apart from the scotch egg and can’t decide which was the best - it was all fab - possibly if I had to choose it would be the juicy, fat, perfectly caramelised scallops - though its a hard call as the chalk stream trout was delicately cured and prawns crispy, crunchy and tasty. Main courses, I opted for the sea bass which again was cooked to perfection. My fellow diners enjoyed the fillet, lamb and pork tenderloin, all declared fabulous. For pudding we couldn’t choose, we didn’t want a whole pudding each so asked the chef/patron if he could create a little sharing platter - see picture - again delicious. Hugely talented chef complemented by a really lovely partner (wife) and friendly team who just know how to do hospitality and knock it out of the park every time.

Family holiday table for six on the whole all meals were good friendly service, if your hungry avoid the lamb half of mine mainly fat came uncooked they call it pink !! They did re heat it hardly any any meat on bones , £25?just arrived home now cooking pizza

The White Heart although it has (for now) restricted opening times has no restrictions on serving high-quality food and drinks, much of which is locally sourced by the owner/chef and his team, including the rare, low-fat Salcombe Meat Co Dexter beef steaks. The result is fantastic food at a fair price and the best Risotto (with pea & wild garlic puree, bruleed goats cheese, aged parmesan, walnuts), I have ever had, and I am not just saying this, it was, the "veggie" option, but the addition of the goat's cheese in the middle was an amazing touch, and worked well, after a starter of field mushrooms. The restaurant has a nice clean, well laid out modern yet rural feel to it, with a jovial front of the house. Parking is plentiful in the public car park behind the White Heart - I will be going back, and I will be making this as soon as possible!! File under amazing....

Another excellent experience at the White Hart. Food is fantastic, service is excellent Been to this pub every year for the past 6 years. The last 4 years since the new owner took control.. Gone to another level! Some say the food is expensive... You pay for quality - it's quality! Go across the road and pay £2 less for a microwave meal... Say no more. Rooms are very clean.... Bathroom and robes a credit to their standards.

Father's Day lunch for 7. Good choice of farm, sea or earth dishes. The roast was amazing, also ate the fish of the day and vegetarian risotto. Everyone gave it 10/10. Two very lovely ladies looked after us extremely well.

Relaxed, comfortable stay over 5 nights, with great tasty food both at breakfast and dinner, with meat from local suppliers. Evening meal a little on the expensive side: We had the pork chop and the fish of the day which was plaice. Both meals were delicious and perfectly cooked. Friendly, helpful, very attentive staff. Not wheelchair friendly, to our knowledge. Parking is chargeable from 6pm - 8am in car parks at rear of hotel. However, after 6pm you may be able to get a space in the main road. Council enforcement here does not come into effect until after 9am and you're allowed 30 mins. So if you're clever you don't need to pay for parking and have a relaxed breakfast! Would return if in the area. Would recommend.

Staff were very accommodating and couldn't do enough for us and make us feel welcome. Great food, dinner was exceptional and breakfast very good with some choices. Bathroom was excellent, clean and modern with a powerful shower (one of the best we've had!) and excellent complimentary toiletries.

Walked down the hill and ate here twice. Had the fish the chips, spectacular! And the seconds had the scallops, by far the best scallops I’ve had. They had done magic with asparagus, did not know it could taste so amazing!

This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had. Staying in Modbury for a long weekend I arrived in time for dinner and had no plans. Pointed to this establishment by a member of the public. Quiet when I arrived. Wholehearted welcome from the lady behind the bar who remained professional and extremely friendly throughout my visit without being sickening with it. It was as though I was a regular and friend without being too pal-like. The meal arrived fairly swiftly on both course fronts and was a taste to ring home about. I had the burger with cheese and pulled pork. Taste sensation. The sticky toffee pudding to follow was equally lovely. Venue clean, no loud music, toilets kept up well. Small public car park behind with free parking after 6pm (at time of writing). Really can't complain. If I return this way in the future and they have the same people in place I wouldn't hesitate to return.

After a few years visited again to see if improved. Was pleased to say our experience was much better.We went for lunch the meal was a tad cheffy but was excellently presented and tasted good too. Priced high for a lunch.. MiGht prove to be too expensive to regain local support to this once very popular venue which was ruined by previous owners by patronising'hooray Henry types. I Would like to return in summer maybe.I wish them well as food is good

My wife and I Popped in at 12 for lunch with our 2 dogs after going to bigbury beach. We both had the roast beef which was probably one of the nicest roasts we’ve had in a long time. The staff were very lovely and accommodating as we had two dogs and that made us feel very welcome. We were very full but knew the deserts would be amazing too, so ordered them to go. Again, the staff are so friendly and boxed them for us and we ate them at home and again didn’t disappoint. I would say definitely worth a drive to visit this wonderful restaurant/pub. Keep up the good work as it certainly shows in your meals, staff and the pub that you are genuinely happy to see people. Thank you

Thought we would treat ourselves to a meal here as we passed through and we were disappointed with the meal itself, very small portions for what it cost , meat may as well be mooing on the plate it was so raw and when we paid in cash the waiter took our money and didn't come back with the change so assumed the whole amount was a tip which was very rude.

I stayed at this lovely place last night with 4 other scaffolders we walked in looking scruffy dirty and shattered but we were made to feel so much welcome beautiful place to stay lovely rooms best shower ive have ever had brilliant nights sleep and thankyou for the breakfast rolls you left out for us this morning they were great definitely recommending your place to people when my partner and myself come down I know where we are staying thankyou

Great atmosphere. Very good service. Beer was bottled but great. We did attend this venue on the day following the queen's funeral so stock was not as normal. The roasted duck was delicious and the portion adequate. The roasted Aubergine was over-priced and with far too much well-chard (burnt) spring onion which distracted from the whole meal. Overall an okay experience. The whole thing was however overpriced.

Took almost an hour from ordering our food, to eating and it wasn't very busy ! The food was nice but everything was severely over priced ( even the children's ) hence the value for money reflects the review.

Booked this for a one night stay for an archery shoot locally. So glad we did, beautifully comfortable rooms, fantastic evening meal and a marvellous breakfast. Not the cheapest around but great value for money. We only have one criticism, no courtesy soap or shampoo in the en suite. An absolute gem.
