The Rose & Crown in South Hams

It's a lovely pub located in the heart of Yealmpton. They serve up local produce, meat and seafood at their pub. We ordered the Pork ribs with truffle fries, salt and pepper squids and a warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Cannot wait to return to this pub as we have moved to Holbeton. Next time we try their Sunday Roast.

Booked for my Dads special birthday, we had the " throne" room for the 8 of us from start to finish, we were looked after very well indeed...service and food was amazing...recommended +++++

Raw chicken came in my curry, which I discreetly took to staff so as not to make a scene. I was told the manager would come over. The manager immediately went on the defensive, ‘we temperature probe everything and the chicken is brined’. No, please don’t embarrass yourself. There is quite obviously some uncooked and raw chicken here. You do not temperature probe every piece of meat in a curry, let’s be real. The texture confirmed this too. I was offered another meal, but no thanks. They could have avoided a negative review if they had admitted the chicken looked raw in the first instance, rather than jumping to the defence and said we will refund your drinks and meal without hesitation. Poor management. Acknowledging a mistake is always the first step to defusing a situation. I hope I am not poorly.

As an occasional visitor I hadn’t booked, but it was quiet Saturday lunchtime. Lovely food and gluten free options were good.

Fantastic. Not been here for a while but spontaneously popped in for a family meal. The food was fantastic, the service the best I’ve had in the UK. Couldn’t fault anything. I will definitely be back.

The food and atmosphere were lovely, however I am appalled about the service. Three young girls working behind the bar were watching me while I was eating and lurking around my family’s table (I am a young woman). The three girls then proceeded to congregate into a group and whisper to each other while staring at me. This made me uncomfortable, as I am not keen on being watched while I eat and especially not being spoken about. I am absolutely devastated because I used to love this pub. My father, when paying the bill, spoke to the manager and told her politely what has happened during our dinner. The manager then proceeded to state she was made to feel flushed and uncomfortable and will not bring up the workers on this, my father then asked ‘Have I been rude or intimidating?’, the manager then replied with ‘No.’. Moreover proving that my father had been polite and kind when reporting a problem. The management is poor here and the staff are rude but the food is amazing, which makes it so unfortunate how disgusting the workers are here.

The food and service are excellent. We all felt very welcome, even our dog. We have been a few times now and they never disappoint. Thank you x

We organised our parents 60th wedding anniversary. Chloe was fantastic. She set up the table decorations for us and looked after us for the evening. Big shout out to her and to Bradley who we understand was our chef and everyone in our party enjoyed their food. Thanks for you guys!!

Sunday roast, not quite was good as last time with braised brisket, more topside today, nice veg and pudding.

Lovely meal and atmosphere/ lovely venue , Lana was really accommodating. Food arrived quickly and drinks were very refreshing.

The pub was relatively busy and staff were friendly and welcoming. Our orders were taken promptly and the food didn't take long to arrive. The roast lamb was cooked well but unfortunately not very hot. One of the group ordered tomato soup which was hot but very watery and lacking any flavour - disappointing! The cauliflower cheese was excellent.

Had a great breakfast… staff were so helpful and friendly. Coming again next week, great choices and so well cooked and presented

This is a much loved local pub often visited by my dad and I. Atmosphere is always lovely and warm, staff are so friendly and professional, beer is always looked after well and good selection. A firm favourite all year round

I had a great meal the food and service were great. Our server was Jackie on the day and she was amazing. A combination of great service with humour was delightful.

We’ve been for food twice here, amazing both times. Our waitress has been Jacqui both times she is wonderful, friendly & all you could ask from a waitress. (A breath of fresh air to the hospitality Industry) I took a fancy to the pie & mash wow amazing compliments to Charlotte the chef both visits!!! Love our Tuesday outing :)

Have eaten at the R&C several times as family live in Yealmpton so when we visit, we tend to use it for one or two evening meals. Never disappointed. We had to book a room for our recent visit. Lovely clean room with nice little touches. It was a cold day and so the room was cold, but soon warmed up after we put the radiator on. Bed and pillows comfy. Breakfast was included in our booking - plenty of choice and the cooked food was delicious. Great service at breakfast too - very friendly and cheerful lady (with pink in her hair).

Good food, pleasant hotel room in seperate building, our server Maisie was pleasant, polite, quick and efficient. We really enjoyed our long weekend, when visiting our friends down in Plymouth we will definitely stay again. Good location, close enough to town and quiet in the evenings. Good choice of food, nicely presented meals and for the price I would say also very good value. Good quality beers and ales on tap.

We’ve been big fans of R&C, have eaten there a dozen times.Always more than satisfied. But this time was unexpectedly poor. One ‘hot’ meal was cold. Two of us had the mushroom gnocchi as a main. It consisted of a couple of chopped fried mushrooms and a few potato balls. The “mixed veg” side was an uninspiring salad. It was all served after a long wait. Such a shame when we’ve loved the place before. (Booking for 4 Thursday 30 Jan, 12 30 Taylor)

The Rose & Crown is a really nice place to visit with a great choice of food. The pub was clean with fresh decor, the staff are very welcoming, all smartly dressed and I felt like nothing was too much trouble, even on a very busy Friday evening. A large car park meant we had no trouble parking. We’d have liked to stay here for our short break as I’d seen great reviews but they didn’t have availability for our dates. After such a good experience we plan to come back and stay.

The Rose and Crown has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our family meal was delicious, the steak was very tasty and cooked perfectly. We were pleasanly full but the idea of having a smaller dessert with a hot drink proved irrisistable. All of the staff were friendly and efficient, but Lana deserves a special mention, she was very attentive but not intrusive, she got it just right!

We decided to stop here on our way home for a bite to eat. We asked if there was a table for two available and although the place was very quiet the barman said he would ask. He came back & showed us to a table. Ten minutes later no sign of a menu or anyone coming over to take a drinks order despite there being plenty of staff wandering around & chatting together behind the bar - no one made eye contact with us at all. We felt extremely awkward & unwelcome and so we got up & left. Unfortunately this experience has put us off returning to actually try the food.

This is a lovely, homely pub, food is tasty and fresh. There are some good options on the 'specials board' as the menu isn't too big. Only slight issue is the cost of puddings, above average. Great idea to offer scratchcards in December for January meals!

We arranged a family meal at the Rose and Crown to celebrate an 80th birthday. We all enjoyed a wonderful evening. The service from Lana was exemplary. She was attentive and professional throughout our meal - everyone commented on how well she looked after us. The food was superb - the quality, the taste, and the presentation. Thank you to Kirsty and Alice for communicating so promptly and professionally with us about our menu choices prior to our visit. The kitchen was ready to serve our party of 10 quickly and efficiently. Thank you for making this family occasion so special. We will definitely return.

The rose and crown has become our favourite place to eat. Their Sunday lunch is excellent and their vegetarian options are varied and tasty, always very enjoyable visits and good value for money.

A Wonderful Stay at the Rose & Crown Our visit to the Rose & Crown in Devon was made truly memorable thanks to Adele, who gave us the warmest of welcomes at breakfast this morning. Her kind and helpful nature made us feel right at home and her attention to detail ensured that every part of our experience was simply delightful. The rooms were beautifully appointed, offering both charm and comfort. The pub itself had a lovely atmosphere, cosy, characterful and the perfect place to relax after exploring the area. A heartfelt thank you to Adele and the entire team for such a fantastic stay. We can’t wait to return to this gem of a place in Devon!

New Years day and we were fitted in on a last minute booking. Service was superb and the food matched it. Unfortunately too full for the wonderful desserts on offer, definitely for another day. Will definitely be back.

Went for quiz night and unexpectedly had table service by a jovial young man called Jack. The evening was made so much better by not having to send one of our party to the bar to get drinks and, despite a crowded pub, Jack was able to look after us very well. All drinks etc were put on a tab and settled up at the end of the evening.

Really lovely place to stay and eat. Clean rooms, comfortable beds and decent shower. Service in the pub was very friendly.

Party of three adults. Two of us had the steak frites & it was not hot, and a bit over priced. Bit disappointing for such a lovely place. I should have complained but it was a treat for a friend & it would have spoilt the lunch.

Went for dinner at the Rose & Crown - the refurb looks great! My boyfriend and I had the BBQ ribs and chorizo and chicken tagliatelle, both were lush! Our server was very helpful and answered all of my questions. Didn’t catch her name but she told us she had just returned from maternity leave. Overall, a great dining experience!

We booked for a party of 5(and a dog) for Sunday Roasts, which we had ordered lamb, pork, beef brisket and a special Steak & Ale pie. All were tremendous. Staff were beyond helpful and pleasant from the moment we arrived. The Arancini starter was simply perfect too! Lovely ambience and atmosphere and an overall grand experience had by all (even Baxter the dog!) We will definitely be coming again.

Stayed overnight and had Dinner and Breakfast. The room was very comfortable. The food was very with a good choice one menu. Staff were welcoming and the service very good.

First time back at R&C for years. But we'll be coming back more often now. We had a lovely dinner (venison) and great drinks in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This was an unplanned visit at short notice. We found the staff (especially Paige) to be very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and just the right amount and the selection of drinks was very good. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be returning soon. The large car park was an unexpected bonus.

Gorgeous pub and delicious food. Had the duck gyozas, rabbit cacciatore, pork roast, and lobster butter fries. All were AMAZING. Would have eaten 2 portions of the fries if I could manage. Thought I was stuffed but had to end on a chocolate brownie and chocolate tart!

Food was great - just a small issue with an under-lemoned dessert which was sorted - nice to see responsibility accepted not batted. And our waitress Ruby was incredibly helpful and personable. It’s a little noisy - the effect of a good reputation and plenty of bookings - to bear in mind if you have someone hard-of-hearing with your party.

Visited The Rose and Crown for Sunday roast and it was so disappointing, especially after been trying to find the time to revisit after last years visit which was really pleasant. The atmosphere and service couldn’t be faulted, ourselves and our dogs felt very welcomed and tended to. The only disappointment was our food. We had the pork and the lamb. Yorkshire puddings on both plates were stone cold. The gravy was tasty, but not a lot of it. The couple of potatoes which were on the menu as seasoned, couldn’t be tasted. Half a parsnip also Luke warm was sat on top of a slice of meat.. The meat was nice, just portion sizes were very underwhelming. We was given one side dish of veg to share between two of us. This included one piece of broccoli being cut into two. For the money, you’d expect a satisfying sized meal, particularly being a Sunday roast. Will definitely be back for a beer inside by the fire or in the garden in the sun, but sadly won’t be back for food.

First time Sunday Lunch. We went for the lamb. Potatoes were a bit hard lamb/gravy was only Luke warm. We had to ask for our vegetables after waiting for them five minutes. That said lamb was very nice not at all fatty and choice of vegetables was excellent. Two minor issues wouldn’t stop me from coming back

We came here purely by chance, drove past and thought we'd give it a go. Oh my God, I'm so glad we did. I'm not saying the food was the best pub food I've tried, I am saying it was some of the best food, full stop, that I have ever eaten. The lobster butter fries were a £1 upgrade and were incredible. The three cheese burger was amazing and my wife had the Steak Frites that were mouthwatering. The service was quick and the staff, friendly and attentive. Overall... 10/10 will definitely be back.

I stayed here for one night in September 24 and also ate in the restaurant. Food was excellent, as were the staff and the overall ambiance. Really could not fault anything at all about my room or the facilities. Well done!

It’s great to see the Rose and Crown thriving and we have used it happily over the last few months. Our last visit though was disappointing. We specifically asked for a table in the bar area but on arrival were told none were available. We accepted a table in the other side of the pub. This area has no atmosphere and is in need of a refurb in our opinion. We were disappointed to see another couple arrive and get seated in the bar area a few minutes after we had sat down. The food was ok the staff ok but they were under pressure and a few basics were forgotten i.e. wine bottle was plonked on the table unopened. We wish the new team well but we won’t be back.
