This building is an eye-sore really, and needs repairing and turning into something good. Maybe a pub chain, art hub, or houses for local people.

The service here is good, but the staff try their best but are set up to fail - for example, it’s a massive venue, and the coffee machine is at the back. It can take 15 minutes for the staff to sort it while dealing with the bar. Great staff, shame about function. It is an incredibly unfriendly space because of management who have put up random signs like the attached. Food questionable - believed it is purchased for events. Drinks might be what they say on the táp. I can't wait for a response from some wench. Lol.

My family and I stayed at the Howard’s’ White Hart Hotel in Launceston from 18th to 21st of August 2023 in room 22, and we had a lovely time. Our room was newly renovated with a beautifully light decor, which was spacious and cool at all hours of the day and night. We were also pleasantly surprised with a smart TV and good internet access which was flawless throughout our stay, which is something we’d never had in Cornwall hotels before. Our room was also far enough from the bar area to never hear a thing, nor other guests, once we were in our room for a peaceful night’s sleep. The staff were incredibly friendly, and surprisingly so were other customers/patrons whom constantly offered to buy us drinks and pay for our games of pool. There’s obviously a whole bunch of regulars that happily frequent the White Hart and see it as home. Sincerely I’d never experienced such a welcoming community to strangers on a trip like this before. Each evening we were offered the opportunity of having our own choice of breakfasts made for us the following morning at the time of our choosing, there was always a car park space available for us whenever we arrived back at the hotel, and we were pleasantly surprised on Saturday night by a live band, performed by the owners of the hotel in the bar area, which got everyone in high spirits. I also found the local area very safe to traverse at night, with no disturbances and little light pollution, inviting you to take a walk around the town at night should you feel like it. I would absolutely stay there again and highly recommend Howard’s at the White Hart hotel for anyone looking to stay in North Cornwall. I genuinely don’t understand some of the negative reviews I read on Google, this place was incredibly friendly, clean and welcoming for my family.

The staff are clearly not fans of 'outsiders' - I was welcomed with a look from the bar lady that implied she thought I said I was going to take a dump on the floor. Served the worst pint of Guinness I've ever seen. The ambience is best described as 'abandoned funeral parlour'. No crisps. Toilets were gross. Don't bother unless you've been going since you were 10 and you're related to the staff and all other possible customers.

Well what can I say! I haven't ever actually been to the pub, landlord Mike booked my band to perform there this evening about 3 months ago but informed us at around 3pm today that the pub may be closed this evening due to a cellar fault and therefore had to cancel!! Real unfortunate. I thought it sounded a bit odd so I phoned the pub anonymously and asked what time the band were performing to which he replied "we're not sure if they're playing, we're waiting on them to confirm". Just to let you know Mike that if you want to run your pub like a circus that's your business, but don't try and drag hard working local musicians down with you. Absolute clown.

This place has really fallen off in the past year or so. Had Fish and Chips here recently, the chips they PREVIOUSLY served a year ago were the best in any pub from town, but now they've served me what seems to be coop crinkle chips and no peas, definitely not worth 9.95. Not to mention, they serve coke out the bottle from coop and constantly nothing on tap. The Westgate is almost next door, just go there.

We were down for a long weekend and had a meal here. Being history buffs the building is fascinating and the staff and service were superb. It's in a central location and a great asset for the area and I am hoping that it becomes a real focal point for the town once again.. Given the age and history of the building it's great to see such buildings in daily use and hear that the owners are sympathetically refurbishing it.

The white hart hotel is an early 18th century heritage building that did not disappoint. I recommend this place to anyone that likes to learn about the Cornish history and culture, good food and friendly staff. The owners of this recently renovated hotel have maintained the regal appearance in the rooms with a keen eye for detail which I recommend to families, business and solo travellers.

I had booked 10 rooms for wedding guests and the wedding band which was arranged in person with the owner Mike Howard and confirmed with the manager Chris. This was organised 3 months prior to the wedding on the 10th September 2022. A week before the wedding I checked in to make sure everything was still going to plan and was told that only 5 rooms would be ready as the owner hadn’t paid the tradesmen so they had downed tools and walked off the job. I managed to get the only 4 rooms at The Eagle House Hotel to accommodate the band. On the day of the wedding the hotels management and communication with the reception was non existent causing several issues, worst of all they didn’t have the rooms ready they had said the previous week leaving two of the wedding guests with nowhere to stay. I can’t stress enough the disappointment and distress this caused.

I didn't like the quality of the ham in my cheese and ham sandwich. Mike the manager took time out to explain where the ham came from and that it was local ham, just cut thinly. Launceston doesn't seem to be a place that has many family friendly pubs, so it is good that the most centrally placed pub accepts children and serves food and cask beer. It looks good from the outside - indeed, almost too good, as it gives the impression of being a slightly posh hotel, but once inside it becomes clear that this is a relaxed and welcoming place, popular with working class families. The central room is airless, dark, dank, smelly, scruffy, and noisy. Children were running around enjoying themselves. The front room is also smelly and scruffy, but has the advantage of windows, giving a light and airy feel. While the place does cask beers, on our visit there were no local beers, just London Pride. There are plus points about the White Hart, and if you are a family with active children, and you are not too fussy, this will serve well, but it's not a place we would generally recommend.

We booked several rooms for a family wedding taking place just outside the town. Yes the Hotel does need some TLC and general updating but for £55 per night for 2 people including breakfast, this was good value for money and location ideal. The room was large & very clean, linen beautifully crisp and the bed was comfy. The decor did need sprucing up a bit but we had no intention of spending much time in the room!. The shower worked well and there was also plenty of tea and coffee on the amenities tray.Pam the Manager of the Hotel, was very hospitable and really did go out of her way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. There are quite a few stairs to some of the rooms and some are also a fair way down corridors so those with walking difficulties would struggle a bit as there is no lift. You could not fault the breakfast, there was plenty of it and the cooked breakfast was of a good quality. There was a loud disco when we returned from the wedding on the Saturday night, but was all finished and the bar almost empty by about 12.30am. It did not bother us at all.Launceston itself is lacking in Restaurants, but there a few nice pubs. I cannot comment on the evening food in the Hotel as we did not eat there. For £55 a night peak season, this was good value for money, as for all the moaners about the Hotel on Trip Advisor, you get what you pay for!!!!

The White Hart has a 5 star hygiene rating but we would only give it a 2 star eating rating. The food was adequate, but not much more. The carved meat was going dry and they were not over generous servings of it. The roast potatoes were possibly the worst I have ever eaten, soggy and overcooked. The choice of veg was very basic and condiments were ordinary. The chef who was carving was only visible when the sole waiter fetched him and when he appeared he did not go out of his way to be welcoming or eager to please. The waiter did his best, he outshone the chef and the food!.

A friend and I went here for a couple of drinks on a Thursday night. There was only one bar man working from what we could see. At first he was ok with us as he served our first drinks but this did not last. We decided to have some more drinks in some other public houses in Launceston with the intention of coming back for our last drink of the evening at the Hotel. When we returned around 10:30 P.M. we found a large que of people at the bar waiting to be served, after about 15 minutes had lapsed some of the customers got a little impatient because no one was behind the bar at all. One or two of the customers started to ring the large bell on the left hand end side of the bar with no avail in order to try and get a member of staff to serve them. Another 5 minutes passed so I rang the bell to see if I could help to get someone to serve all the customers waiting along with myself. All of a sudden a young bar man with tattoos all over his arms came into the bar and was very rude to me and my friend and then told us to get out! We left straight away as I did not want confrontation. We went to the ‘West gate inn’ just down the road and got served straight away and they made our custom feel like it was valuable. The Hotel its self is a very good place to have a drink I feel, but they do need to get some staff there that are customer friendly and want to work there in order not to lose any customers. Without customers you don’t have a business. We will go back one day, but hopefully the management will read this review and do something about the poor service we encountered here along with many other customers on this night.

If your eating in Launceston town centre there is not a very wide variety of choice but the White Hart has now become the worst of all which is very sad considering it's long history here. I used to like coming in for a pint and a game of pool when there was a good range of ales but now there is usually 1 or sometimes 2 and no bottles of proper beer just stuff like Sol. The food is very bad. The last time I was in I had some sausages that were only cooked on one side. They also seemed poor quality and didn't taste like they had much meat content. If you want a game of pool and some beer and food then Harveys and the White Horse down the hill at Newport are much better. I hope it will get better again because it used to be a good night out. I can see from the other reviews that other Lansonians feel the same. It's low position down the rankings on trip advisor is justified.

The decor was dull, dated and deteriorating, the menu was vast and left me lacking confidence that the kitchen could truly produce such a wide range of food to a standard of quality. The service in this place is getting worse, the staff are friendly, the food is good when it turns up, the waiting time between courses is agonising, we went for there for Sunday lunch, the waiter said its a 3 course set menu for £12:50. which is a good price. the starter was great, but then came the long wait... 15mins, 20mins, the waitress asked the table next to us what they'd like for pudding, they replied we're still waiting for the main.an elderly gentlemen on that table had fallen asleep, crumbs I thought. 30mins the wait goes on. 35mins our waiter says we can have our dinner now but with no cabbage, or we can wait till they cook some, because I didn't want to wait another decade for the cabbage to arrive we said we didn't mind, thinking the lunch would come out.... no we had to sit for another 10 minutes. at last it arrived, it was ok, very tasty. so far we'd been in the restaurant for about 1hr 20mins and we still hadn't had dessert. when we ordered our puddings we asked for the coffee as well just to try and speed things up, 20 mins later the desserts arrived, again very nice food. what crossed our mind is that the menu was a set menu, a basic Sunday lunch menu, 3 starters, 3 meats, plus a veggie lasagne, and about 5 desserts, nothing complicated, so why the agonising long waits in between courses, then running out of veg as well,. there was less than 10 people in the restaurant. its not as if it was their full menu on offer or the place was packed out. I think some training for the kitchen staff needs addressing, as we was leaving a table of 12 turned up, with young children too. god help them I thought... I think it will be a long time before I use this restaurant again, or until they get a faster chef.

We had the lasagne and ale and beef pie. Both home made and delicious. Meat comes from butcher next doro who obtains from local farmers. Only complaint was the wait but it was worth it. Would go there again.

There was nothing terribly wrong with our meal in the bar, but no one in our family of five are all their food, either. Two of us ordered cod and chips, one ordered lasagna, one ordered vegetable curry and the last had sausages. The price avid portions were decent. You can stop in if you are hungry. Everything will be ok even if nothing really stands out.

We visit Launceston 6/7 times a year, and always have lunch here. Very Friendly staff, overall really pleased each time. Nothing is ever to much trouble and we can see improvements happening! Menu very pleasing, good value and a young lady chef even had even took the trouble to personally explain new items to us.

Thank you to all the staff and especially Dan, for a wonderful lunch yesterday for Mother's Day. My fiance & I treated both sets of parents to the set 3-course lunch with tea/coffee, all for the very reasonable price of £13.50 a head. We had a lovely time! The food, especially the roast dinner options, was all fantastic, generous serving sizes and really tasty. Lovely staff, cheerful & smiling, even though it was a very full lunch sitting. Our every request was granted with willingness & charm. But an especial thanks for Dan who went out of his way to make wine & liqueur recommendations, and looked after us so well with such charm - he was the highlight of our visit and really made our day. Can thoroughly recommend the set-lunch here, we are regulars - celebrated my Dad's 80th here 2 years ago, also came for Father's Day lunch last June, so this was not a one-off. We will keep coming back! Thank you again for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon :) Jenny & Andy xx

Service and value for money was OK, but decor/seating in bar area is very tired and food not that great - I had the chicken in barbecue sauce, but the chicken was overcooked and the sauce was sickly sweet. My colleague asked for a medium steak, but it came well done.

This Hotel is past its prime, it is scruffy as are the staff, it is tired and frequented by the teenagers and lads of Launceston who use the lovely big bar as a meeting place to watch football on a big screen. The restaurant is from a different era all together and serves very good food which is inexpensive. The Reception is horrible and the lads all stand in the entrance doors smoking, totally off putting. It could be a stunning place to spend a lovely evening, Maybe a different entrance to the restaurant would be a good idea away from the Bar. I don't know if any body ever stays there. It gives out a vibe of sadness.

An ok place to go to for a meal. The staff where really good and friendly, as for the food it was a works party of about 22 people. Everyone enjoyed thrie meal but a few found the wait between courses to be rather long and felt the dessert had just been nuked. The decor is rather dated and in need of updating but other wise ok.

The place really needs a bit of refurbishing, it looks really nice from outside then you are disappointed when you walk in, quite a varied menu, would recommend for a quick lunch but because of decor not the sort of place i would want to stay for dinner.

Staying at Woodovis caravan park we fancied a trip into Launceston fo a light lunch. We found the White Hart right in the centre of town. A hotel with a country pub atmosphere. Very friendly staff, great value for money food and ice cold beer. Highly recommended.

Good food although a bit on the expensive side for vegetarian dishes. Nice place inside & central location. Good menu but the meat dishes were better value than the vegetarian dishes

My husband and I with 5 other friends enjoyed a superb Christmas Lunch in the Ballroom at the White Hart Hotel on Christmas Day. The cost was extremely reasonable for champagne and canapes, starter, sorbet, main course, dessert, coffee and mince pies. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service just right - not rushed but not too slow. The food was excellent. The hotel had taken trouble with the table decorations and room decorations and it was tasteful and festive. The best part for me was not having to prepare the meal and, even better, not having to clear up afterwards. I would recommend Christmas Lunch at the White Hart to everyone and would certainly boook us in again for Christmas 2013.

We have had two lovely meals here since moving to the area. The welcome is lovely and it has a wonderful menu selection, anything from lovely sandwiches or bagettes, to full meals - the portions are very generous, the food it piping hot and excellent quality. You will not be disappointed if you decide to dine here. You will have three different options of where you would like to eat - in the restaurant, bar or quiet bar. We will be back again very soon.

Came here for my friends birthday lunch, our first mistake was walking in. We went to the bar to get our menus no one greeted us, asked us to take a seat, so we sat ourselves. We both orderd chicken, bacon and pesto pasta with garlic bread, It arrived after 20 minutes waiting without garlic bread so we asked the waitress she replied 'oh didn't know it came with garlic bread ill ask' she then came back to say the chief had forgotten it. We tucked into our pasta to find the chicken still bleeding pasta cold and the bacon was just fat. The waitress came back with our garlic bread to which we turned round to say the food was disgusting, they offered to make us annother but after that we felt physically sick! DO NOT GO HERE!

Dropped in last night to be greeted by a super friendly bar man. The pizza’s are incredible and their delicious Sunday roasts are now back in the menu. With an unbeatable location and stellar service it’s our favourite spot.....
