Beautiful quirky inn with lovely and kind staff. Spotless everywhere and lovely rooms generally. I hate to nitpick, but I wish I'd have read that the upstairs outer courtyard rooms are accessed by fairly steep and creaky wooden stairs. I struggled to ascend said stairs and had to visualize getting up to my room everytime I returned. Not great for arthritic, achy or older folk. You'll struggle with a heavy suitcase doing them with back issues. There are two sets of stairs to use, if you have a young and agile person waiting behind you. They triggered vertigo, too, which I have to put here. Great for a nimble and whizzy younger person, not so for those with mobility issues. The rooms were cozy and lovely. Everything was five star with luxury beds and all facilities. However, the shower needs to be amended for creaky people. Firstly it badly needs a rubber mat as standard in the bath tub. Plus, the shower head is fixed to the pipes. No grab rail or thing to hold onto. Water falls onto dry hair if you don't fancy a shampoo that time. Shower door panel is very movable, so very risky. The bath is deep and big enough, but has no support rails to aid getting out. These things really matter for those with impaired mobility, post op, or flexibility getting in and out of bathing areas. Sorry to be bah humbug, but it's so frustrating after a long journey to experience these issues. If you're reading this and have arthritis or sciatica, maybe request a different room? I booked at last minute and was lucky to get this room. Otherwise it's beautifully appointed and full of good vibes. 👍👍the guy with long hair is super amenable and goes above and beyond to assist guests. He's an asset to the hotel. 😊 Loved the real ale vibe in the bar area.

I came here mid summer on a day it happened to be raining and not always the best "new visit" welcome, and yet, i was not disappointed in my experience at the White Hart! They hold several event nights thru open mic, cask night, bands, and all sorts of welcoming events for locals and visitors alike. The inn holds a range of ever changing local and microbrewery beers. My favourite as a kiwi was the “Motueka” a taste of home with the warm happy feelings. There isn’t a supermarket beer in sight, and they take pride in their range and knowledge of the ales. Sure, theres no car parking any more, but when you see the outdoor dining and enjoyment area, youll appreciate that a whole lot more too! The inn itself currently hosts 14 rooms. They range from cabin to superior double, with family rooms available as well. Mine was a fine double size with a super comfy bed. The room was arranged for comfort and all the usuals that you get in a hotel room. Note the photo of the room has the bed made by me so it’s messy because I forgot to take it on arrival! The bar manager on when i arrived was Ade. He is the kind of bar manager that actually listens to you, and pays attention to eveything you’re talking about so he can make sure he gives the best recommendation. These people are hard to find! Is the building tired since its so old? Not really! It’s been well maintained since the 1400’s - yeah, since before usa existed, so it has some wear and joy to show through its journey. Its not a modern version on a local pub, its the real deal. Each table has the menu and drinks menu held safely in.... readers digest condensed books, a touch back to the days!! If you know what i mean... then youre of my generation too. Everyone who came was welcomed, served, and had the personal touch of amazing service from the staff. To know that a small town bar would be so welcoming to all, was a really positive note for me. On top of all that, the venue has a function room, breakfasts available and restaurant menus available nightly. There is also a massive variety of gins, rums, and whiskeys to sample on your stay. The Big Question - Would I go back? Well, I’m on a short UK holiday right now, and I’m already trying to get a stop in on the way through the overall trip. It’s comfy, it’s cozy, it’s warm, it’s welcoming!

Actually, no stars. Went for lunch Saturday. Booked for noon as I had a one o'clock meeting. Ordered food on arrival. After 30 minutes went to ask about progress. No staff anywhere. Finished up after 40 minutes finally finding the kitchen where I asked for the food to be served immediately. At 10 to 1, I went back to the kitchen to cancel. There was someone lying on the floor in the kitchen and a chef, but no serving staff. So no lunch, and other than not paying for food I hadn't got, no recognition of the appalling service and no real apology.. Never going back. Chris Morley

That evening they were not serving food but she said that if we wanted to get a takeaway we could eat it in the pub and she would supply the plates . It was so refreshing to see someone who actually took pride in her job and went out of her way to engage with us . We were staying in the White Hart Hotel and included in our Travelzoo deal was a credit towards an evening meal in their restaurant in what apparently was previously the Sadler’s Brasserie. This is now a typical town pub with the usual pub fare and as such is good value for money. The pub is welcoming and cheery. We did not expect or receive fine dining but had an enjoyable evening with our friends dining on typical pub food and were impressed with the cheese board which we had to finish off the evening. The staff were attentive and provided good service. Well worth a visit if in the beautiful city of Wells.

About a year ago, four of us went to the Sadler's Brasserie - where we had one of the best meals we've ever had in Wells - brilliantly cooked and presented, fairly priced and lovely staff in a great environment. Last autumn we found it closed for refurbishment, and so we returned this March. They've made it more of a pub environment (so very different from the pictures shown here) with a pub menu. The different staff were delightful, but it is not such an attractive. We found the menu limited ans unadventurous - so plumped for cod and chips with peas. The chef clearly has no idea of how to cook chips - all were pale and underdone, the fish tasteless. 20 minutes later people ordered at the next table the same meal - they had the same experience, pale under cooked chips. We paid up and left and will not be returning - nor will our family and friends who live in the area - we're all very disappointed.

Sadly, no more a brasserie as it was. A recent late 2018 renovation of the White Hart Hotel has converted it into a Gastro Pub.The new bar area was pleasantly set out and the food was excellent, well cooked and presented although a little over-priced. We ate here on the two evenings we were in Wells. The first night we had the Taster Menu, five courses of excellently prepared and presented food, each with the exception of the dessert would make very good starter. Very enjoyable. The second night we planned to eat off the menu and were a little disappointed that it was a pub menu and not the expected a-la-carte menu. This is when we were informed that the brasserie had changed to a gastro-pub, something we were not aware when we booked. That said the food was very good but as it was late evening it did get very busy and noisy which changed the atmosphere. It is probably now not somewhere where we would enjoy an evening meal with the exception another Taster Menu on a quiet night.Overall the food itself deserves a 4 Star.

Great job on the renovation and well situated to be a quality new addition to the pubs in Wells. However, the standard of cooking does not yet match the surroundings and price point. I hope the owners are successful as this could be a positive addition to Wells, but the food situation does need attention. We will continue to visit for drinks. Finally, on the topic of drinks, an addition of a local guest ale would be a good addition on top of the regular Butcombe Bitter.

After local press announcements of the White Hart opening the downstairs as a bar, I decided we’d celebrate my wife’s birthday here with a family lunch. On booking I was told there were no bookings taken after 2pm until the evening, so I booked five people for 1:30. Two of us arrived early and sat with a drink awaiting family, when they arrived, we ordered and waited for the food. The waiter told us to keep the dessert menu so we could order later. My pork belly was really nice but suffered from a lack of potatoes and veg. For £14 I’d have expected more veg. Two of the party had sausages but they looked a bit raw in the middle, the cottage pie was grey. On the plus side, I was intrigued by the pork & black pudding Scotch egg which was very nice. Good job we had it brought with the main course! After the plates were taken away, the waiter didn’t come back. After a while one of the party went to find him only to be told “the kitchen closed at 2pm, you can’t order dessert.” Utterly atrocious and pathetic! This is a hotel supposedly, and it used to be a good one. Seems the new owners don’t see the sense in serving the customers they’re trying to entice in the long term. All I can say is that this place has shown itself to be mediocre, not what Wells needs, there’s enough of that elsewhere in the city. The owners should have saved their money and not bothered, they’ll need to make a success of the hotel and bar because the service will kill the food side of things. Even the coffees given to us after much haggling, were lukewarm. Ah well, back to the competition next time then!

We arrived to be told all the draught beers were off and as we three all appreciate beer this was not a good start. My friends food was cold and an explanation by the waiter (from the chef) as to how the food was prepared could not hide the fact his food was lukewarm when it really shouldn’t have been. My two friends plates were cleared whilst I was still eating - not acceptable. On the plus side the French Malbec was delightful but overall we had the impression that as a hotel restaurant they have a captive audience and consequently don’t need to try too hard. Very disappointing.

The style is fine dining, and it's cooked from scratch which is what we are looking for. try the cheese souffle, it is seriously tasty. The portions aren’t large, my boys said a little bit more would be better for them, but I don’t expect huge platefuls of food in quality restaurants and the big positive is that I can manage all three courses! Went there last night. Apparently this Brasserie prides itself on its food and as the name suggests continental touch! Not so - far from it!! The food tasted fine but the portions were shockingly small. This Brasserie wants to appear to be above average but it just does not work. When the waitress came with the big bread basket as is customary on the Continent there were 2 miserly white bread rolls in there. As the portions were so small we were still hungry and asked for another bread roll which we had to do twice. The waitress finally came again with the big promising bread basket but disappointingly again there were only 2 very small rolls in there! To add insult to injury they actually charged us £1.50 for the extra bread rolls. The bill came to £65 with just one shared cheeseboard and no dessert (again miserly portions and only 4 small biscuits and a caraffe of wine rather than a whole bottle).Very very disappointing, we will never go there again despite being in walking distance from our house - a shame as the interior is very nice. They seem to think their customers are gullible fools with their primadonna attitude.

On a travel zoo deal which included the taster menu which was very good - the amuse bouche was a carrot and coriander soup which was one of the best soups I have ever tasted - certainly would have liked more! The brasserie is in the White Hart Hotel which as a hotel I have done a separate review

Excellent service from waitress. The food wasn't so hot nor the same as the last time.Lack of vedg, all very tasty. Belly pork was more fatty than last time and not as tender. Soup didn't come, with bread roll as neither did the tomato salad but when we asked the waitress did get some bread but the roll didn't arrive until she had had her soup. All very tasty though, would come again.Drinks reasonable

Went last Sunday for lunch. My partner had the roast beef, I had the hake. All of the food was cold when it arrived. The portion of hake was small, and there were 4 tiny mini potatoes and a few bits of cauliflower accompanying it (while my partner got 3 big roast potatoes and quite a lot of meat - albeit undercooked and gristly). The hake was pretty tasteless. Desserts (orange tart and mango cheesecake) looked OK but also lacked flavour. There was a 45 minute wait between the two courses, which was not good. The coffee was from some weird machine, also cold and watery and nevertheless cost 2.80 Pounds. Needless to say we won't go again, definitely not for Sunday lunch which cost 20 Pounds per person for 2 courses.

We experienced and amazing meal on Friday night. Chef Jason Porter and his assistants did himself proud. Every course was a tasting delight. As soon as the word gets around this restaurant will be fully booked every night. We cant pick out a particular favourite as the whole meal was fantastic - we'll be back !

We had an excellent lunch here last week. The market day menu was interesting, very tasty and good value. The rolls were delicious and we loved the sweet potato soup and a chocolate dessert. The decor is a bit fussy but we enjoyed the comfortable chairs and the carpet and curtains help to cut down noise, unlike the surroundings in more trendy establishments. Our one gripe was that the only music speaker was right above our table - it was turned down at our request but surely no music is needed at lunchtime, or there should be alternative speakers.

We had the lunch time set menu and we were very pleased with the quality of the food. Hake and chicken beautifully cooked and all dishes really well presented - would rival a much more expensive restaurant. The staff were attentive and friendly. The decor is a little old fashioned but it is a brasserie and feels authentic and we liked that about the place.

I have to admit that I poked my head into this restaurant once when I couldn't get into Goodfellows and I left without even looking at the menu - it is very 1970s and had a musty hotel; it is also not located within the greatest or best hotel in the area. When I arrived here to eat with a party of 6, I was very pleasantly surprised - every aspect of the meal was excellent and nobody had the slightest complaint. I saw somebody on Trip Advisor dismiss the Pea Veloute, but this was one of the highlights of meal. The food is not as good as Goodfellows, the wine list is far inferior, but the quality of the food is not far away and the value is excellent. You get better food than almost anywhere in Wells and the value is great.Highlights included pork belly which was crisp and juicy, perfectly cooked trout, heritage tomatoes (with tomato water sorbet), perfect juicy chicken, pea veloute, excellent cheeses, perfect panna cotta, rich and divine chocolate mousse etc etc. All of the sauces and creams were excellent as were th eaccompnying veg etc. This guy knows how to cook.Service was great and with a smile - really excellent. My only criticism was that the delicious and moreish still-steaming bread roll was too small - I'll have two next time. This place is a brasserie, but the food is of high restaurant standard. If they changed the decor, stiff white table cloths and decent tables etc and upgraded the wine list, it would be a sought after premium restaurant. Really enjoyed it (apart from the decor). Will be back.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our lunch on 5 August. The food was beautifully prepared and presented, and offered good value overall. Similarly the service was both polite and very competent - well judged on timing, so that the meal was suitably relaxed but not drawn out. Being situated so close to the Cathedral is a positive benefit, and the décor entirely appropriate to an historic building. In short, we would happily return to Sadler's the next time we are in Wells.

I was bought this by girlfriends for my birthday. What a fabulous present. I loved every course. The sweet potato soup was a brilliant way to start and no course let the experience down. The restaurant was busy so had a great atmosphere. The staff were attentive and genuinely seemed to be pleased we liked the food. Looking forward to going back.

We visited for sparkling afternoon tea booked with Travelzoo voucher, which does offer very good value. Enjoyed the glass of prosecco. Good presentation of afternoon tea on 3 tier cake stand, 4 types of sandwiches, 2 cakes each which were very stylish and 2 scones each plus jam and cream. I had to ask for extra hot water fro the tea but it arrived promptly. Certainly plenty of food and nicely presented. Only slight niggles would be the individual factory pots of jam: why not serve it in a bowl like the cream? Perhaps a pretty tea cup wouldn't go amiss. But these are very minor points and we had an excellent meal.

Went for Sunday Lunch today 9th. Arrived at 12.30 4 adults and a child of 4. We were seated around the back on our own with no other tables. We waited 45 minutes before anybody came to the table. Just had a carafe of water. Finally somebody took our drinks order and then came back for the food order. We ordered the pea veloute but it came as cream of pea soup! No bread was offered .. I asked twice for the bread before my soup got cold and was told the rolls were in the oven! 3 of us ordered sirloin of beef...the plates came out looking quite attractive medium rare but we couldn't eat the beef as it was tough as leather and full of gristle .. I tried one mouthful but couldn't swallow it as I was frightened I was going to choke. My husband also couldn't eat his. My son in law tried his best. My daughter had the pork and this was very fatty. I was trying to get the waitress eye but was ignored.. nobody came to ask if the meal was ok. Finally after being left for a long time with uneaten food the restaurant manager came up to us to clear our plates I said we couldn't eat the meat as it was too tough and she replied was it too rare for you! Not helpful. we were looking forward to trying the desserts but after waiting, waiting and waiting we asked for our bill and left. Can I ask is this because we had a Travel Zoo voucher that we were treated so badly and no apology that we couldn't eat the main course? So disappointed as we had come along way to try this restaurant

I had read the reviews for this restaurant and was really looking forward to trying it. We may have caught it on a bad night but.....We waited 40 minutes for our first course to arrive which was a version of a caprese salad. There were four mozzarella balls the size of marbles and slices of yellow, green and red tomato. It looked pretty but green tomato is not very juicy! There was also a sorbet on top which melted before you could eat it and therefore dripped of the slate (not the best dish for this dish!) onto the floor when the waitress picked it up.The saving grace was the lamb which was delicious but it was served with purple potatoes which were just not nice!!We decided against pudding and then waited for the waitress to come back so we could ask for the bill. After ten minutes, having seen no servers in the restaurant my husband did 3 laps of the hotel in order to pay. There was not even anyone on the reception desk for the hotel!.... we could have left without paying and no-one would have noticed! I rather wish we had when the bill for nearly £70 arrived for 2 courses.... half inedible, and a couple of glasses of wine arrived.I therefore reiterate my title for this piece...... disappointing!

4 of us, 2 couples, visited for dinner last night. We had a Groupon deal for the 5 course tasting menu which represented fabulous value. There was a good wine list and good selection of beers. The food was first rate. Well presented and very tasty - we all ate every mouthful. The restaurant looked like it had been tastefully redecorated fairly recently. I do hope they frequently refresh the baskets of dried grasses and flowers hanging from the beams. Look great now but won't if they get dusty in the future. The restaurant wasn't full, I estimate 50%. Enough for it to have a nice atmosphere.Staff were great. Attentive but not fussy, just how I like it. We parked some distance away in a public car park. We noticed that they did have some parking of their own so worth asking if you book.Only criticism is the booking process. Tried phoning several times, got a message asking me to call between certain times - got that message even when calling at the suggested times. Tried emailing them which worked but a little frustrating having to wait a day for a reply. We then needed to change the date of the reservation - more emails and waiting for replies. I received an email the day after the initial booking saying we'd failed to arrive. This was easily sorted. But booking system needs an overhaul. Worth the effort though in the end.

I used a Travelzoo voucher to eat here for Sunday lunch yesterday, as we were out for the day In Wells. The building is easy to find just in front of the Cathedral, and we were immediately welcomed by friendly and courteous staff. The brasserie has a lovely atmosphere, though the layout of the tables needs a re-think - there's a table right inside the door that rather blocks your route into the main room. Our table was by the window - just where I like to be! Drinks came quickly - wine by the glass is very reasonably priced, just £3.30 for 125ml of a nice Italian red. The usual price for lunch is £20 for two courses and I don't think you'd be disappointed. There's a choice of two meats, a fish dish, and a vegetarian - we both had beef. I don't like mine very red so asked for it medium which was absolutely no problem. The portion size was excellent - two big slices of meat cut from a joint, not pre-cut slithers - roast potatoes, enormous proper Yorkshire pudding, carrots and broccoli and then dishes of red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. The gravy was utterly delicious. there was at least four choices for pudding - we had the chocolate delice and a mango cheesecake. Both were presented beautifully and tasted gorgeous. We rounded off with a couple of coffees. This was a real treat in a proper restaurant and I couldn't complain about a thing - we'll be back!

Our 3rd visit (admittedly using T/Zoo vouchers) over a year or so, and yesterday's lunch was by far the best food we had there. 2 very large slices rare sirloin beef, absolutely delicious roasties, Yorkshire, etc.etc. and I went for a lst course, but the desserts coming out looked interesting. Everything on my plate was a good flavour and well cooked (well, red cabbage was a bit sharp for my liking , I like it with brown sugar & a bit of spice). However what hasn't improved very much is "front of house". When you walk into hotel off the street there is an arrow pointing to restaurant - you stand and hover at the doorway, no-one comes over to you. In the end we walked towards hte little bar area and a young lady then said "are you OK?" Well, no actually - we would like our booking checked in and be taken to a table!!! It is a struggle to walk into the restaurant anyway because the chairs and tables are right up to the doorway and over to the wall, so you have to pick your way amongst them. But I would go again as the lunch was very good, just wish they would get their "meet and greet" right.

We found this brasserie by chance on the internet and could not believe how pet friendly it was. We called in at lunchtime with our golden retriever dog to enquire and booked a table for that evening. The food was fantastic with a fair choice of wine but above all our dog was allowed to lie by the table - a proper dog friendly establishment. The staff were really friendly and helpful in all matters. We visit Wells twice a year and will look to stay and eat here in future. Thank you all - often places advertise as dog friendly but aren't really !

Town center hotel with parking. Character dinning room and all very clean and pleasant. Excellent flavours of the main course with good portion size and red cabbage and cauliflower cheese veg BUT.....no roast beef left at our 13:30 booking time and only other roast was pork - no turkey or lamb. The pork did not come with any crackling, insufficient gravy and the requested apple sauce was thin. There was a sea bass fish option, that one of us had, but a small portion size. Puddings were only average. £20 per head for two courses - I don't think this a good value Sunday lunch.
