White Hart in West Oxfordshire

We came in on a Friday night at 6:30pm on the off chance we could get a table. Very accommodating whilst already busy with locals having drinks/meals. We were served promptly and chose two meals from the ‘favourites’ board. Good quality food, cooked well and really tasty. Reasonably priced too with generous portions. Our only negative was that the guy on the bar was completely swamped! People waiting to be served and working the restaurant too… he remained courteous and attentive whilst stretched but in our opinion there should have been another staff member as small errors in the orders, not bringing condiments etc when requested due to his busyness could have been easily avoided. All in all though a great place to come for an impromptu evening meal. Thank you

Always a great atmosphere, friendly welcome, great food and varied menu. The pizzas are amazing. We’ve been for Sunday roast before as it’s also incredible. Refreshing to enjoy a family run pub.

Underwhelming and disappointing Sunday lunch here. The roast potatoes were inedible, and there was just 2 of them. Equalling just 1 single potato. I thought it was just my plate of food that was lacking in the potato section but then I realised our other guests had the same. The clunking of cutlery all around our table also indicated that they too were struggling to eat them. The meat was tough and chewy, and the whole plate of food was just tasteless and lukewarm. One of our groups starter had 5 small pieces of squid on it with some wilted rocket and it was £9, which on reflection is outrageous. The service behind the bar was good, if not a little stretched for the amount of customers. No one asked us how our meal was either. Having previously eaten there for a midweek lunch and enjoyed it, we felt the Sunday roast really let this pub down, and along with the amount of money we had spent, which was in excess of £200, our entire party felt it wasn’t value for money, or that enjoyable and for that reason I wouldn’t recommend.

Amazing pub with such friendly staff. The food is amazing here . The pizzas , burgers and roasts are the best in the area . Do not settle for anything other than the white Hart. The head chef owner even came out for a chat with me . Such a lovely guy . Aswell as being looked after by his lovely wife barbra . I will Be visiting here as much as possible when I'm in the UK

The service was very good, I had the best Ravioli ever here, I also asked for the truffle fries and they didn't disappoint. Then came the desert which was the Belgian waffle, it was yuuuuuumy. The service, the food and the ambiance in the pub was soo 👌 . Can't wait to go back

A joy to have dinner in a proper village pub. Marvelous warm welcome and the most delicious dinner. The Pork fillet was faultless and excellent value. The new landlords Richard and Barbara have impeccable credentials and it really shows. I can’t wait to return.

We went for Sunday roast and for some reason, having gravy granule gravy upsets my stomach. I told the waitress and she asked what was in them that I was allergic to. Well I don't know. How do I find out as there are so many awful additives to this stuff! I presumed from that I would have a gravy made without granules, but I dont think I could have because on getting home the pain and awful tummy problems happened and until 5 this morning I was ill. I am totally not OK about this. Apart from this, the beef was grisly and too rare. My companions said the roast was OK, but not the best, but as usually, we don't complain. Starters were nice and puddings ok, if very sweet. To some people I am sure the meal would be ok, but I certainly can't go back. The staff were incredibly nice, but as for the cooks . . .

Lovely cosy pub. The good, our waitress was lovely. Our main course was delicious and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The puddings were a let down down unfortunately and at £8 each were a pricey let down. Minster mess I was told, was the same as an Eaton Mess. It wasn't. It was crammed full of tinned cherries, crushed biscuits with hardly any meringue or cream. I only ate a few mouthfuls, but my husband ate most of it as he didn't want to waste £8. He had sticky toffee pudding. The toffee was burnt around the edges and had solidified as it had been microwaved to within an inch of its life. When the waitress came over after and asked us if we enjoyed the puddings, I pointed out the issues we had and she agreed that the sticky toffee pudding looked overcooked, and she would pass our comments on to the chef. When I pointed out there were biscuits in the Eaton mess, she agreed and said it was a mixture of all sorts. When paying we were still charged full price for the puddings, which we were shocked about. Such a shame as the main course was fabulous and really well presented. We have just got back from a short break in the area and decided to eat here one evening . The food was perfect , service was next to none and can recommend to anyone choosing to eat here .

Sunday roast treat for MiL, had squid starters, which was lovely and soft. The roast beef was delicious and served with extra veg too. One had venison and one had pheasant of which were both enjoyed, also one had the fish cake, which was tasty also. House wine was a reasonable price. Recommended for lunch for sure.

We recently used this lovely place for a family get together. After the sad passing of a very dear family member. Nothing was too much trouble. Organising a menu was so easy. On the day we turned up very early. Even that didn’t phase them! Everything was nearly ready and they accommodated us brilliantly. The food was beautiful and they made sure everyone was catered for Huge thanks to the owner and his lovely wife and their entire team. They made a really hard day bearable

Went here as was meeting a friend from Oxford but wanted somewhere we could park and have lunch. The pub served 4 different ales and the two tried were well kept. It was good that we booked a table as there was a large party that arrived and we were told there was no room for dining without a booking. Bear this in mind if you are making the journey especially. Nice country pub feel and the roast was hearty served with mixed veg and a lovely cauliflower cheese and a huge yorkshire pud. There weren’t so many potatoes but i didnt miss them so much. Deserts were delicious and looked like made by their chef. Friendly vibe and there were a few games in the pub.

Had a lovely lunch with my wife today. Service was exceptionally friendly, drink prices very good for the area and the food was amazing. We had the homemade pitta and houmous to start which was great. My wife had fish and chips which she said was perfectly cooked and I had a freshly made stone baked pizza which was to die for. They've gone to great efforts with social distancing during Covid and we couldn't have felt safe enough. Locals were warm and welcoming. Absolutely brilliant experience and we shall be back. Perfect roast lamb, perfect roast beef, the most amazing yorkshire puddings, roasties, cauliflower cheese and veg - there's nothing not to like about a Sunday roast at The White Hart apart from the fact that we were too full to try any of the home made puddings. Will definitely return and next time, will make sure we have room for pudding.

Having seen the positive reviews on here and Google we decided to book a table for Sunday lunch. Goodness, what a mistake. The pub was empty on arrival, which is never a great sign, and when the food arrived only a few minutes after we had ordered we feared the worst. It was stone cold and had presumably been pre-prepared, and it was our misfortune to be served the last meal of the lunch shift. It was given a brief reheat, but add in not being asked if everything was OK until after we had finished, congealing sauce, a lack of gravy and lime cordial that was ‘weak’ (their words, one presumably interprets that as watered down) then its fair to say that we were underwhelmed. On the plus side, the meat and cauliflower were OK.

What a fabulous meal. Excellent service, good choice, food piping hot. Would definately go again and again :)

We went as a family. Bar service was good. Very friendly barman. The food was amazing. Home made proper thick burgers full of flavour. The tribute battered fish was the best I’ve ever tasted not a bit of oil to be seen. Batter was so light and crunchy. Home made bread and butter pud for my son with home made custard. Cheese board. Fresh plentiful selection of tasty crackers and great amount of cheese with apple and grapes in the middle.

Visited late on a Sunday service but was still welcomed in and had quite possibly the best Sunday Roast I’ve had (I hope the wife doesn’t read this!).

You will miss out on one of the best roast dinners in West Oxfordshire if you don’t try this village pud. It’s always been a great place to eat and drink but the new team who have taken over the running of the pub have just turned it up a notch or two.

I heard lots about the white hart, the bar, the food and service, food wasn’t that good, but eatable. I will go again and give them another.

A great evening with tasty buffet food, great beers wines and spirits and excellent service by Page and Nicky, Brian wasn't too bad either. A huge thank you to the band, the guests and the staff who went the extra mile to make this an excellent evening.

Great car park, Disabled access. Excellent surroundings. No music. Good beer. Home cooked food. Friendly and helpful landlord. All in all a great lunchtime. I do hope the number of takers increases. It certainly deserves to be patronised.

We came here for a bite to eat on a weekday lunchtime. There was a nice selection of dishes to choose from and my boyfriend and I decided to go for mussels to share and then a toastie each. Was really happy to see they did gluten free bread as well. The mussels were a big portion and in a very nice sauce. It came with a huge amount of bread too, but no spoons so was a little tougher to eat! The gluten free toastie I had which was bacon, brie and chilli was tasty, but I couldn't taste much chilli - I do like quite a lot though! My boyfriend's toastie was HUGE! It looked like about half a loaf of bread and even he couldn't manage it all. Friendly service and good value.

I took a large group (24 people) to this venue for our monthly Sunday Lunch. The food was great, especially the main course, with choice of lamb, pork or beef. There were a large choice of vegetables all beautifully cooked and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We will definitely go back again.

We came here for dinner whilst staying at the Old Swan down the road. They were very good with our dog as well. We both had burgers (one veggie bean burger and one meat burger) and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and the value for money. We came for dinner on a Tuesday evening so it was very quiet - we were the only ones in the restaurant! We both ordered the stilton burger as we were pretty hungry. It was really tasty but there was so much we could've shared one between both of us! We felt a bit guilty leaving so much on the plate. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming.

This was our first visit for many years but sadly we will not be returning . The menu was very limited and I feel this is not a eating pub although very basic it was ok but filled the plate with chips and not much else one of our party had battered fish which turned out to be just batter but to be fair to the chef this was more their supplier and they would not have known they instantly cooked another piece but this arrived after the rest of the meal eaten but she took the fish home.On a plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Arrived at 0750pm and they stop serving food at 0800pm but were good enough to still be able to do food for us! My partner had the burger and I had mac and cheese. Both big portions and tasty. Reasonably priced and a wide selection of drinks available including speciality gins :-) Millie the bar lady was very helpful and friendly an I would definately return again if I was in the area.

We pre-booked this place due to the write ups on Tripadvisor.

Ordered a bean burger, sausage and mash & Bacon brie burger. Wow the portions were amazing and the food tasted fantastic. We were going to move on after our meal but enjoyed the friendly atmosphere so much we stayed all night. The staff are fantastic and welcoming. Really can't fault the place. Definitely recommend it.

We visited here about a month ago. We were expecting a lot given the great reviews... We turned up to find a dated little pub with a very small dining room. There was only us and another couple in there. The atmosphere was awkward, given the size of the room and the décor very dated. We had to wait quite a long time for our meals, in fact the other people received their meals before us, even though they came in after us. Meals were nothing special in our opinion. Wouldn't recommend. Confused by the good reviews!

Went to visit friends in Carterton on Sunday morning. On our way back to Oxford, saw this pub and decided to stop for lunch. They were able to accommodate us, even though we hadn’t booked. This is a lovely old fashioned type of pub, with plenty of drink choices.

Steak was awful, fatty and tuff with a hand full of chips and a black mushroom. Rubbish. The Mrs said her dinner was alright which was a vegetarian lasagne. Have been here in the past and it's been awesome. New owner or chef now???
