The White Cross is a very lovely venue for lunch and/or a drink with friends though there’s room to consider making a few, small changes that would improve the experience. 4/5 stars The Good: -Great location! The riverside views can’t be beat.The vibes are fun, light and relaxed - which is a huge plus! -Amazing food! I ordered a steak sandwich with carmelised onions and chips and it was really delicious. Would love to come back to order this again! The menu was priced well too. -Friendly staff. We sat outside but opted to order inside at the bar for our meal to be delivered to the table which wasn’t a problem. When the midday sun was very bright, staff quickly came to open the shade over the tables. I’m not sure if someone requested this or they did this on their own but it was shortly after our arrival. Though my friend and I chose to sit facing the river in the direct sun to people watch instead. -Clean toilets: Always worth mentioning especially when an establishment gets very busy. What could be improved on: -The ordering system! 0/5 stars! Like many establishments, you are directed to order through your phone. . However, you can’t order as a guest, and you can’t order through their website, you have to download their app! Ok, fine. But the app was so slow to respond and the worst part is that it was requiring you to not only enter your email and birthdate, you couldn’t proceed without giving a phone number as well! It was very frustrating to use.This is such obvious data mining, I shouldn’t have to give all of my information just to order lunch! We were hungry, and I became increasingly uncomfortable with how much personal information was being requested, that we went directly to the bar to order - which went smoothly. The staff were friendly and I got the impression that many people order opt to order at the bar too. - The website advertises their Aperol Spritz as a specialty. My aperol spritz was mediocre at best. Thankfully the ambiance made up for it. -The seating in the back patio is arranged in such a way where one side either faces the river and the other side gets a view of the back wall - which is dull and boring. I’d suggest moving those tables 90° so both parties can look at the river from the side, just like the centre tables. Or make the back wall more interesting to look at with some climbing plants or a mural on the back wall.

While the atmosphere and food are good, the service is terrible. We tried to order directly, and we were told to use the app- but several menu dishes were not available there, so a member of staff told me to order at the bar. When I tried ordering at the bar, I was looked down on by a group of girls (mainly a blonde one) who seemed to think I was interrupting their gossip time whilst trying to order. They also told me that kitchen closed at 9 and even though I’d had the issue with the app and it was a couple minutes before 9pm I was not allowed to order. The only nice staff member was a girl with brown hair and light eyes. Would not recommend going with high expectations. Ended up sharing a tiny tartare for two people.

Fantastic pub, they just need to train the staff how to pour the Guinness, way too fast.

Been 3 times now, every time it's always amazing food. They have great roasts but also some great specials on other days. Always a great spot to go when in Richmond :)

Beautiful Thames-side bar meters away from the photogenic downtown Richmond now world-famous thanks to Ted Lasso. This is one of the best pubs in the area, perfect for sunsets!

A bar on the Thames River. It is said that you can sit by the river during high tide and let the water splash on your shoes. Although the food selection is relatively limited, the relaxed atmosphere can make up for it.

Nice setting and a very popular pub on the riverside, also very cosy inside. Sausage in the Scotch egg was nice but the egg could’ve done with being cooked for a minute less so it was more gooey. Steak tartare was a good portion and tasty but would’ve liked another slice of bread. For £19.50 I’d have liked a bit more fish as I felt it was quite a lot of batter, but it wasn’t oily so thumbs up there. The chips and tartare sauce were very good but the mushy peas were sadly one cold congealed unseasoned lump and all 4 of us left them on the plate untouched. Enjoyed the vibe and the staff are pleasant and attentive, but would maybe try another pub for food next time.

Came with a couple of friends for a quick pint and ended up having a Sunday roast. The food was absolutely amazing! One of the best roasts I had in London. Even though the weather was not great on the day, it was a pleasant day to sit outside and enjoy the afternoon. Would deffo go back 10/10!

Visitamos el pub ayer para un almuerzo especial de cumpleaños, habiendo reservado previamente. Mi comida llegó con un artículo que no puedo comer. Pedí que la comida fuera reemplazada por otra opción. Más de 35 minutos después, seguía esperando mi comida de reemplazo. Mi familia había terminado de comer así que cancelé mi reemplazo, terminando sin comida. Creo que deberían haber priorizado la comida de reemplazo ya que el resto de mi parte ya estaban comiendo. Me cobraron por mi comida que me devolvieron. Podrían haberlo encajonado para que uno de mi grupo lo comiera más tarde o comprometido con el costo ya que pagué el precio completo. Lamentablemente no lo hicieron. En su lugar nos cobraron un cargo de servicio de £ 20 que, si yo hubiera estado presente cuando se pagó la factura, habría pedido que se lo quitaran. Sin felicitación de cumpleaños o hecho sentir especial. La carne asada estaba demasiado cocida y masticable. La porción de carne de cerdo asada era pequeña. En general, una experiencia muy decepcionante.

Superb waterfront location. Beautiful views across the river. Above average British pub food - their Sunday roasts are unbeatable! Check out their delicious roast beef paired with all the trimmings... .lovely roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, greens, roasted shallots and garlic and onion gravy. Our lunch was thoroughly enjoyable. The service was good and very efficient. The pub was well-kept and had great atmosphere! I would watch the tide here. We saw the tide come in and some stranded drinkers were given a boat ride back to land.. .also you may want to consider moving your vehicle to higher ground! Will definitely come back.

Éramos un grupo de 12 personas para mi cumpleaños. Cuando llegamos siendo era un día soleado y en el río era absolutamente heaving con la gente. Tuvimos suerte de tener una mesa reservada en las escaleras. El personal era increíble (lo siento no puedo recordar allí nombres) a pesar de lo ocupado que estaba el pub nos sirvieron rápidamente. La comida era genial no hay quejas de nadie. Fue una noche encantadora.

First time back in Richmond for years. Lovely place but I never really enjoy going there as parking is worse than a nightmare. The White Cross was extremely busy on the early spring evening we attended. Maybe I just haven’t been in that part of time in ages but damn the food and drinks were extortionate in cost and portion size questionable. Service wise food and drink ordering is done via an app or in person which on the whole worked well given the sheer number of people there. Not great value for money in my opinion but maybe I’m just tight. Music was also way too loud where we were sat. On the positive side it’s a lovely venue and is dog and child friendly which is good.

Held my 50th there, the atmosphere was fantastic. Great staff and the a great pub on the Thames. Stunning sunsets and Pints :) very happy

servers were completely rude and never brought food or drinks we asked multiple times how long it would take and they kept coming over and dismissing us they started shouted at us and swearing do not go!!!

Were very rude to us and didn't give service in appropriate timing. Will not be back again. Do not go!

Booked at table this Sunday and it was lovely. They gave us a gorgeous table near a window so we got to watch the high tide come in. The staff had a tough job but they were friendly and super kind. We ended up being locked into the place for over an hour due to the tide but it was so lovely. Will definitely come back with more friends. Got the Sunday Roast and it was lovely.

We sat upstairs in the lovely restaurant where I had delicious bangers and mash. Highly recommend, busy restaurant with great atmosphere. Booking would be essential.

Right on the Thames in the heart of Richmond, this spot is a must-visit. A fantastic place to watch football, it offers a unique experience when the tide comes in—grab a pair of Wellies (available for rent) and enjoy the outdoor seating even as the water rises.

Very nice place with excellent vibes especially on a sunny day. It’s a great place to sit along the river for a drink if you don’t mind it being slightly crowded. Friendly staff and friendly customers with a buzzy atmosphere. The interior is nice as well however it really slips on the quality of the food. We went for a Sunday roast - the beef was overcooked and tough, the potatoes were basically boiled, the Yorkshire had no salt and the apple crumble had no flavour. A real shame. I definitely wouldn’t go back for food.

Perfect position on the river-fab food and experience. Expensive - £10 for 3 hours - closest parking only downside but not surprising and worth it for good location.

La comida estaba bien los dos teníamos asados que estaban bien solo el personal nos dio un aviso para decir que necesitamos la mesa de vuelta en 15 minutos estábamos esperando cafés 5 minutos después el personal dijo que necesitamos la mesa de vuelta cuando tenían otras mesas disponibles. Llegamos temprano, que estaba bien, pero el servicio era un poco lento y tuvimos que llamar al personal para otra cosa

Despite it being a rugby match day, we were still able to find a table and get some DELICIOUS fish and chips and a couple of bangers and mash, along with deserts and drinks in surprisingly quick time! 5/5 for quirkiness (flooding), food and service

Saturday afternoon and was mobbed so lucky to grab a seat indoors , great pint and nice vino , had the Lancashire Hotpot for 2 which was absolutely fantastic , bags of flavour and meat melted in your mouth and a cauliflower side which was great too

Como siempre, gran servicio, y buena comida. Un hermoso día soleado, así que estaba ocupado un martes a la hora del almuerzo. Habíamos reservado y teníamos una mesa preciosa arriba. Pescado / patatas fritas era fabuloso, con ketchup, sarro, salsas de curry y guisantes! El pescado estaba muy bien cocinado, húmedo y suculento, y las patatas fritas gruesas una delicia. El servicio fue extremadamente amable, eficiente y profesional. Presenté a un amigo que no había estado antes, así que otro fan se sumó a su gran base de fans. Siempre es un placer estar allí, acogedor en invierno o disfrutar de la vista del río en verano.

Brilliant Pub with fantastic selection on the food and drinks. Our server was outstanding and took us through the menu very well, we went for the sandwich lunch option with a few alterations that the chefs accommodated very well, and the apple and cherry crumble for dessert which was massive. Would highly recommend the visit.

Food was lovely, the staff were really accommodating & the location is fabulous looking out into the river. Very dog friendly, although a dog menu would have been an added bonus.

I took my Canadian friend here to experience an English pub. We were not disappointed. Very friendly staff and helpful waiter. The fish and chips we ordered were the best I have ever eaten. And I have eaten at a very well known fish and chip establishment in Whitby! The chips were fabulous, the fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was crisp and light. We even had curry sauce! We will be back.

We had a great time here. Came in for beers and then the high tide during a new moon got us! Water blocked the exits and we had a choice of using the pubs wellies or having another round. Most people chose the latter and we all had a great time until the water receded. Those who had to leave were ably assisted by pub staff. Apparently this happens only once a month. (Not to worry if you had to leave the water rose very slowly.) Great time and we look forward to returning!

This place is worth a visit even at low tide. Set in a beautiful area with lovely staff and delicious food.

Sadly mega busy on a Saturday (predictable) so we couldn't find a seat. But, it looked awesome! 🤣

Visited a few months ago spoiled by loud TV in the garden like a sports bar. Revisited this weekend. No TV, and lovely fish and chips, a real cosy coal fire and lovely atmosphere, like a decent pub. Hopefully they will keep the TV off. Redeemed.

Amazing Fish&Chips - possibly the best I've ever had. So crispy and delicious. The staff were super helpful and friendly, able to accommodate us without a reservation. The pub didn't flood while we were there but very cool place to go regardless.

My family and I stopped for a couple of Boxing Day drinks and a game or two of cards before we went off to Brindisa for dinner. We were fortunate enough to grab a table between the window and the (very unusual) real fire. It was a perfect hour or two in a perfect day.

We believe the beef roast we had yesterday was one of the best we have ever had. Ordered this with a side of Pigs in Blankets and Cauliflower Cheese. Downstairs the pub was cozy and the staff were attentive and friendly. Would love to return soon. Thank you

A must-visit spot in Richmond! We dropped by for lunch and a few pints, and it was fantastic. The pub is spacious, with plenty of seating options, including a lovely outdoor area. I tried the fish and chips, and it was incredible—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and not greasy at all. Highly recommend stopping by!

We held our company Christmas lunch for 30 people in the private room. The food, drinks, service and ambience were all excellent and felt it was very good value.

I organised a work's Christmas Lunch at the White Cross last week. Everyone really enjoyed the venue, the atmosphere,the food and the drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive. It was the perfect place for a leisurely and merry lunch.

One of my favourite pubs in London. Lovely inside, lovely outside great all year round. Fantastic staff, fantastic beers, just watch the tide but it's a great excuse to stay if it comes in 😉

Good food, great atmosphere and good selection of draft beers and cider. Ate here prior to Kew Gardens visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Only niggle was in asking for a plain cheese burger it came with caramelised onions! They were scraped off and we continued. Nice place to go if in the area

Lovely old pub. Very festive and buzzy. Great service. Speedy and friendly. We ordered 5 roasts. The pork was delicious. The beef was tasty but a bit grisly. The chicken was delicious but a bit dry. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Would visit again but would book earlier in the day hoping the chicken might not be on the dry side.

A lovely riverside pub. I had a chicken club sandwich with fries for lunch. Really tasty! Nice convivial atmosphere. Friendly staff and, for the men, good clean toilets. I imagine that the ladies' facilities would be of a similar standard. It was a crisp autumn day on which I visited, and it was quite busy, so I imagine that in the summer this pub is 'mobbed'.

This was such a beautiful pub! Cozy and overlooked the river. The food was quite nice and service was also great! Definitely recommend if you're in Richmond.

We went to watch the rugby and although they show it in the restaurant, it lacks the vibe of downstairs in the pub area. The food was delicious (marmalade glazed gammon knuckle was the highlight) and I cannot fault the service. Attentive staff and overall a lovely meal.
