White Cross in Richmond upon Thames

We had a great time here. Came in for beers and then the high tide during a new moon got us! Water blocked the exits and we had a choice of using the pubs wellies or having another round. Most people chose the latter and we all had a great time until the water receded. Those who had to leave were ably assisted by pub staff. Apparently this happens only once a month. (Not to worry if you had to leave the water rose very slowly.) Great time and we look forward to returning!

Great place right on the Thames and very good food (including the Sunday Roast). Take wellies in the summer!

This place is worth a visit even at low tide. Set in a beautiful area with lovely staff and delicious food.

Sadly mega busy on a Saturday (predictable) so we couldn't find a seat. But, it looked awesome! 🤣

Visited a few months ago spoiled by loud TV in the garden like a sports bar. Revisited this weekend. No TV, and lovely fish and chips, a real cosy coal fire and lovely atmosphere, like a decent pub. Hopefully they will keep the TV off. Redeemed.

Amazing Fish&Chips - possibly the best I've ever had. So crispy and delicious. The staff were super helpful and friendly, able to accommodate us without a reservation. The pub didn't flood while we were there but very cool place to go regardless.

The mulled wine was excellent. The food was overcooked. Pity about the loud music

My family and I stopped for a couple of Boxing Day drinks and a game or two of cards before we went off to Brindisa for dinner. We were fortunate enough to grab a table between the window and the (very unusual) real fire. It was a perfect hour or two in a perfect day.

We believe the beef roast we had yesterday was one of the best we have ever had. Ordered this with a side of Pigs in Blankets and Cauliflower Cheese. Downstairs the pub was cozy and the staff were attentive and friendly. Would love to return soon. Thank you

A must-visit spot in Richmond! We dropped by for lunch and a few pints, and it was fantastic. The pub is spacious, with plenty of seating options, including a lovely outdoor area. I tried the fish and chips, and it was incredible—fresh, perfectly seasoned, and not greasy at all. Highly recommend stopping by!

We held our company Christmas lunch for 30 people in the private room. The food, drinks, service and ambience were all excellent and felt it was very good value.

I organised a work's Christmas Lunch at the White Cross last week. Everyone really enjoyed the venue, the atmosphere,the food and the drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive. It was the perfect place for a leisurely and merry lunch.

One of my favourite pubs in London. Lovely inside, lovely outside great all year round. Fantastic staff, fantastic beers, just watch the tide but it's a great excuse to stay if it comes in 😉

Good food, great atmosphere and good selection of draft beers and cider. Ate here prior to Kew Gardens visit and thoroughly enjoyed it. Only niggle was in asking for a plain cheese burger it came with caramelised onions! They were scraped off and we continued. Nice place to go if in the area

Lovely old pub. Very festive and buzzy. Great service. Speedy and friendly. We ordered 5 roasts. The pork was delicious. The beef was tasty but a bit grisly. The chicken was delicious but a bit dry. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Would visit again but would book earlier in the day hoping the chicken might not be on the dry side.

Large Riverside pub, outdoor seating area, good selection of beers

A lovely riverside pub. I had a chicken club sandwich with fries for lunch. Really tasty! Nice convivial atmosphere. Friendly staff and, for the men, good clean toilets. I imagine that the ladies' facilities would be of a similar standard. It was a crisp autumn day on which I visited, and it was quite busy, so I imagine that in the summer this pub is 'mobbed'.

This was such a beautiful pub! Cozy and overlooked the river. The food was quite nice and service was also great! Definitely recommend if you're in Richmond.

We went to watch the rugby and although they show it in the restaurant, it lacks the vibe of downstairs in the pub area. The food was delicious (marmalade glazed gammon knuckle was the highlight) and I cannot fault the service. Attentive staff and overall a lovely meal.

So very busy at the White cross on Saturday 9th because of a rugby union game but as usual impeccable service, fabulous food, wonderful choice of beers and wine Brilliant location If you haven’t been there it’s definitely worth a visit

He estado yendo a The White Cross por más de 30 años y constantemente ofrece una de las mejores experiencias de pub. Personal bien entrenado, servicial, buena cerveza y comida que está bien preparada pero no demasiado elaborada. Mi ir - al pub junto al río para una bebida de invierno acogedora o un lleno en el día de verano (está lleno en días cálidos, pero eso no afecta mucho al servicio). Si no puedes lidiar con las multitudes, ve a comer a mitad de semana, pero las grandes noches de verano también son muy divertidas.

Good pub grub and good, smiling service. Right by the river. Parking not too far away.

As a Saffa this place is great. Pricing not too London and vibe is great. The pub also floods twice a year which is a vibe. Service staff is also nice. Didn’t have food, so can’t comment on that. But pricing looks good.

The White cross is an old staple of Richmond and has a prime spot by the Thames. The service there can be a bit hit and miss and the prices are pretty eye watering but I guess that is everywhere now. It’s a nice old boozer with lots of character. I can get very busy especially in the summer. Would recommend if you like a pub by the river.

Great riverside pub.. I’ve known it for over 50 years.. it’s become a bit of a tourist haven these days.. Beer still good and welcome back Winter Warmer..

Another below average, carbon copy Young’s pub. They are a rash on our city, perhaps that’s unfair on rashes - at least there’s a bit of variety from one to another!

The White Cross Pub is a charming riverside establishment, offering a delightful selection of local ales and hearty pub fare. Its welcoming atmosphere, complete with cozy interiors and scenic views, makes it a perfect spot for gatherings. Friendly staff and a lively ambiance ensure a memorable experience for all visitors.

Overall a good roast, however, we booked a table for 3pm and they had run out of everything but the roast beef. Understandably a very popular pub and Sunday lunch location, but it was frustrating that people could get a table in the beer garden without booking and order a roast, leaving those who have booked a table in the dining room with less choice. We also tried to ring and message on Instagram to check if this time would be too late for the roast and no one answered. This, along with the unseasoned, watery cauliflower cheese for £6 means we are unlikely to recommend this for Sunday Lunch, but as a nice waterfront, sunny beer garden vibe, we would come back.

The location is the best! If you are lucky to enjoy the pub on a sunny day, the experience will be even better. I love Richmond! 🤍

Fantastic winter warmer breakfast

Amazing pub on the river! Excellent food and a great team to match. Winter Warmer breakfast is legendary! Incredibly well run business, proper pub done to the absolute top standard! Well done all!

The White Cross Winter Warmer Breakfast - Just do it! Has to be one of the best events of the year! The food is perfect (as always at the White Cross) and the new season's Winter Warmer a joy - even at 8am. The drays and the Morris Dancers are the icing on the cake (or the beans on the black pudding?) See you for breakfast next year (and many times in between hopefully).

I'm happy to say that I've been to many Winter Warmer Breakfasts over the years, but this one was definitely one of the best! A really well run event, from the very lovely staff, beautiful Full English breakfast, entertainment, and let's not forget the beer, which was in perfect condition. We all had a great fun day, and this is a fantastic start to the season, in one of West London's best pubs......thank you.

Terrible service - was rung 40minutes before my 16.30 Sunday roast booking to be told that they had run out of all Sunday roasts!! Very disappointed as was the whole reason we had booked.

Love the location the staff we made reservations by phone and glad we did as it was packed all the food and service were excellent

Could be nice but having a laugh with the prices. £34 for a few bits of bread and hummus. Crudités for 2-4 people consisted of 2 sticks of carrot and 2 sticks of cucumber. Would have been expensive at half the price! 1 roast, 1 ‘platter’ and 2 beers was just under £90!! Obscene.

So nice we went twice! As if the idyllic riverside setting wasn't enough, the fish and chips knocked it out of the park. Perfectly (not oily at all) crispy batter, insane chips, and flaky, tender fish. It's a must visit if you find yourself in Richmond.

I think it's a place that you can't forget... Love it!

This is a wonderful pub - great indoor and outdoor atmosphere and views of the Thames, and wonderful food. So why the three-star review? Purely on account of the initial service when I ordered our (two) drinks. The bar was empty and the two women behind the bar were chatting to each other and continued to do so when I attempted to attract their attention. Eventually one of them approached; no smile, no greeting; we were made to feel like we were intruders - dreadful. Apart from that, as I said, great pub!

I'll be alone in Richmond. There is also White Swan. The two of them compete on this issue. A nice walk by the river followed by a nice malt, why not. The staff is friendly. I think you should go there just for the smiling face of the staff. A nice malt with a smiling face, why not? 😁

Lovely pub on the river with plenty of seating inside and outside. The food was great, fresh and tasty. They have also vegan options, which is great when in group with friends. Service was fast and everyone was very professional and kind.

Lovely spot for an afternoon drink and bite to eat. We sat on the porch upstairs and enjoyed a good dinner and beer.

We booked this place for a reunion. When we arrived the room we were allocated was having a large very noisy party in the same room. We couldn't hear ourselves think. Our server CLEO said she would try and overcome this when we requested to be reallocated to another room. To her credit she did everything she could do to overcome the problem and eventually she delivered by getting us another table. 5 star service from CLEO and credit to the White Cross.

My sister and her husband live in Richmond and they're always talking about this pub which some days floods because of the tide. I finally had the chance to visit and it was fun, although it was not flooded, the atmosphere is just cheerful. The drinks are good, the very young staff is friendly and it was a fun experience.

What not to like. Food. Drinks. River. Flood. Lol. But overall an absolutely amazing place to rest and refresh after a busy Richmond experience 😎❤️

Quite like coming here on a warm day as we live in the next town over. It really is a staple of Richmond. Cleanliness could however be improved greatly especially the chewing gum stuck under the pub tables 🙃. Apart from that however the staff are great and the vibes are always on point!

Good food (more meat dishes than fish ones) but without ambition.

Got a Mezze Board to share and it was a massive dissappointment because there were a couple of sad pieces of bread and sad bits of too thin veg which made it hard to actually share. Massive letdown for the price. It's almost designed to be a waste of the various hummus types because the bits supplied to eat them with aren't sufficient and nobody wants to eat hummus with a fork with nothing else. I don't like waste - waste of food and waste of money. Also if you are sharing hummous and don't have 5 fresh forks so as not to contaminate something that is being shared, you best be super intimate with whoever you are sharing with because you will certainly be sharing germs. Hope they didn’t have this on the menu during covid times.

No better place to enjoy a drink in London on a sunny day. I love you White Cross!

But of a shame that you can't reserve the outside space but it's great on a summer day (inside or outside).

Had a drink here with friends a lovely setting by the river Thames

too hot inside and no AC (ok it’s the hottest day so far in the UK but still..) and also we ordered a caesar salad with chicken which ended up having some sort of ham in it. It’s not ok to just throw ham in there as lots of people are not comfortable eating pigs.

Went for Sunday lunch. Was very busy but seemed to have a great vibe in the downstairs bar. We were greeted quickly and politely at the bar and we were taken straight upstairs to a small room. The waitress gave us our menus. After about 10 mins she came to ask what we wanted to drink and to let us know there was no beef left. It would've been nice to be told that when we were given the menus as we'd both decided to have beef so needed to rethink. We'd ordered 2 cokes but only was delivered so we had to request the other one. When we'd ordered the meals were delivered very quickly considering how busy it was. We weren't offered any condiments at all. The food was just put down and the server left. The food was quite good, as mass catering roasts is difficult to get right. Potatoes weren't brilliant, they needed to be crispier on the outside and fluffier on the inside and weren't quite cooked enough. The pork belly was very tasty. It was certainly an ample serving. At no point did anyone come to check whether everything was ok with the food. When we'd finished we had to wait quite some time before anyone came to clear our plates. We declined desserts and asked for the bill. The waitress just put it on the table and left for about 10 mins. When she returned, we asked politely for the service charge to be taken off. She took the bill and walked away before returning with an amended bill. There was no interest whatsoever as to why we didn't want to pay the service charge. To be honest, none of the staff upstairs seemed in the slightest bit interested in the customers. How can they expect to improve, if they don't enquire as to what may or may not have gone wrong? It's a shame as this seems a lovely pub with a vibrant atmosphere and a superb outlook on the river. The only thing that let it down was the service.

Very busy and wonderful ambience.

Great roast. Don't normally get a roast but this was good. Only thing that could be improved was the Yorkshire puddings were tasteless my guess is they are cooked in oil. Cheap oil. As apposed to beef fat. Or not enough salt. But, everything else tasted good and the haddock I saw someone get smelt and looked so nice. Cyder battered not just plain.

It's a wonderful place. It's even more enjoyable when the weather is nice.
