Was quite disappointed with our experience today we had been looking forward to it after reading the reviews. My husbands soup was sent back as cold and even when it came back it was not stirred through as was still cold in middle. Had scallops there were lovely but overpriced for 2 of them. Roasts looked fab with a huge Yorkshire but expected more than 1 slice of meat for that price. Cauliflower cheese could not taste the cheese. One of the party had a plant burger this was not great quality. Service was mediocre so overall a disappointing first visit. Will not return. Spent 43 a head and only had a soft drink and some of the party did not even have a starter so did not feel value for money either.

It is a real shame that the fish and chips was not up to scratch. To get to the fish you had to hack through the hardened batter, apparantly they have had a recent batter change - my suggestion is just don't cook it so long. Fish was translucent and watery. Fish pie special was brilliant!

The best roast dinner you can get in a pub/restaurant. Food is delicious - I always get the roast pork but have also tried both the chicken and the beef and they are equally as tasty. Whenever my parents visit they always insist we go here on a Sunday for their roast dinner. The atmosphere is really nice and relaxed, the view of the river is great and the servers are super friendly and attentive. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus (pictured is my dog in the upstairs restaurant from a previous visit). The only thing is for the restaurant upstairs you do have to book in advance by at least a week as they do get completely booked out for Sunday roasts but that only speaks to the quality of the place!

Pros: Lovely views of the Thames. Decent priced drinks. Immaculate loos (a rarity in London!) Cons: Food was really disappointing. I had the squash risotto. It was undercooked, bland and overpriced. Really a let down considering this pub was recommended by Conde Nast. Staff wasn’t unfriendly per se but definitely not welcoming and didn’t seemed like they wanted to be there. They generally seemed apathetic.

This place had a lovely vibe and we a had a blonde american lady serving us who was extremely helpful when dealing with us as a group of 8. The main courses are extemeley expensive, and in my opinion not worth as much as they are. I had a veggie pie which was delicious but not worth more than the £20+ I paid. My brownie was literally raw; I like that so can't complain, but worth noting if you are worried about raw eggs or anything.

Excellent pub on the river Thames, beautiful interior with open coal fire and plenty of seating. Separate dining area upstairs with long tables for large groups. If the Thames tide is high enough you can get marooned for a few hours and surrounded by water that runs up to the aptly named Water Lane. I had pork and it was juicy and full of flavour same with the beef. My Yorkshire was over cooked, gravy could be thicker too but over all very good. My brownie was so nice super naughty with rich chocolate flavour. Apple crumble was a miss for our table wrong texture. I will totally go back

Overpriced paid 53£ for 1 starter, 1 sandwich, side chips, 1 main and 3 drinks (1 sparkling water, 1 half pint of guiness, 1 apple juice). Wasn't given a receipt, was left with glasses and bottles at the till and no help to bring to the table outside. Also a main included gravy and onion rings which I only noticed when leaving, that I didn't receive these on the table. Never again. Average food, poor table service and very overpriced. Good location and beautiful views though To your answer: I had staff helping me with drinks before, using a tray, when these are for a meal - with glasses, bottles and pints. Currently, Nov. 2023 - your official website and your official Google menu - mention : Mains - "Cumberland sausage and mash onion rings, gravy (1242 Kcal) £16.00 " - onion rings and gravy never arrived to the table Overpriced still, better options in the area Thank you

Met up with a mate for an afternoon in Richmond. Neither of us live close to the River Thames, so we strolled along from Richmond Station to the riverside and chose The White Cross, so we could sit outside and watch the level of the Thames subside. We had a pint of standard Youngs bitter, each, and appreciated the heft of the dedicated straight glasses. We were off elsewhere to eat, so cannot comment on the food. We need to return to try the Youngs Winter Warmer.

Bacon was dripping with fat and didn’t taste like bacon. How bacon can be done to not taste good, I don’t know?! Missing items from our plates. When we enquirer the waiter came back saying “they’ve run out.” Fish was dripping in oil. Could only eat half of it. Both of us felt nauseous and had stomach pains for the rest of the night. I’ve been avoiding writing this review as I really don’t like to write negative reviews, but overall the White Cross was really disappointing. To be fair we did go on a busy Saturday and some of the problems were outside the control of the team. Starting with the service, I’d booked so I made sure they knew we were there when arrived (you have to leave a credit card and face a 30 quid no show penalty to book - which is kinda ok). After checking out names we were told to sit anywhere that was free. We did and were given menus by another staff member before someone one came by and told us off for sitting in the wrong seats. The rest of the service was friendly but slow with us having to remind staff to bring drinks we’d ordered etc. Food wise: my bangers and mash were great with Cumberland sausages and homemade onion rings, the pasta dish was small and kinda bland, and the the Caesar salad small and with really chewy inedible chicken. There wasn’t a quality check so by the time the staff came we’d eaten what we could (I was happy the others not). Atmosphere - we sat upstairs in the restaurant and it was the longest restaurant I’ve ever been in in my life. In no way was this the fault of the staff (who I’m sure where struggling to hear too). There was one large table shouting at across to each other and one table near us shouting over the large table. The large loud table left as we decided that we were still very hungry and would have desserts (happy that we could talk and no longer have to lip read). And then another loudish table took their place - we gave up on deserts. Maybe we were just unlucky based on the other reviews. Overall the White Cross on a Saturday was easily the worst dining experience we’ve each had for a very long time. Was it all the fault of the establishment and staff (and personally I liked my food)? No, the noisy and slightly drunk shouting customers made it extra unpleasant. Generally the food and service were below par so I can’t recommend it from any angle and would seriously avoid eating there on a Saturday.

This pub is great for river drinks - but the food is only "ok" with the service (inside the dining room) average to poor. We had Sunday lunch in the Dining Room; while the pork belly was good, the kitchen forgot to bring out the "proper gravy" for the roasts (rather essential) and the waitresses never bought the condiments after we asked for mustard. Silly but frustrating. The crab and shrimp brioche is revolting, - hardly any substance, just sauce and so much chilli it's ruined. The roll itself was tough almost stale. Chips were fine. Aperol Spritz on the terrace were delicious!

Great pub! I would absolutely recommend booking way in advance as it can get really busy - we went on a match day before the rugby and it was packed. Food was really good - I had the special which was chicken schnitzel with chips, the chips were perfect, crispy without being greasy and too oily and the chicken was wonderful. Service was good, polite friendly and helpful though I would say might be a great idea to have some kind of “uniform” so to speak, as there were a few staff who if they hadn’t cleared the table or brought drinks I would have just assumed they were patrons of the bar! Great views of the Thames too, so would definitely come again for lunch or dinner here. Price was fine for the area, ended up being around 170 quid for 4 people all having multiple drinks and food.
