Whiski in Edinburgh, City of

Edinburgh is a city that is open late! And after a night on town in the amazing Bannermans, Banshee Labyrinth and Legends, getting to bed at 3am I feel aggrieved at being turned away at 1134 because they’re moving on to lunch! The menu clearly says Breakfast menu served until 11:45am The “lunch menu” is full of all of the same i ingredients as the full Scottish breakfast. Imagine turning down £20+ for 4 minutes in 2024. I’ve been a customer there since 2011, and I’ll never be going back. The guy behind the bar wasnt exactly unfriendly but he showed zero empathy and seemed kinda smug about it. I expect better of my hometown. And I got it round the corner at The Southern Cross. Do better for your customers. I’m disgusted

Ce n’est et de loin pas le meilleur pub pour manger. Les plats sont lourds (pour les mêmes recettes que dans d’autres restaurants). Le service est efficace mais peu sympathique.

After much time walking in the rain, my friend and I stumbled into this bar. Great service, and an ecceletic array of decor, this is a fine place to grab a drink or food. *Especially a Hot Toddy if the weather is rainy!

Scoperto per caso. Ottima cucina scozzese. Super buona la Scottish Steak Pie. Se amate i dolci estremamente dolci, consiglio di provare la Sticky toffee pudding.

Llegamos un poco tarde para cenar para los horarios de la ciudad y nos atendieron super bien. La camarera que nos atendió fue muy amable y la comida y la cerveza negra estaban espectaculares. El postre tb muy rico. Y a partir de las diez d la noche, había música en directo. El precio quizas un poco superior a otros restaurantes, pero está situado en pleno Royal Mile. Buen restaurante muy recomendable.

Non ci hanno fatto entrare e sono stati scortesi ! Altroché ospitalità scozzese! Volevamo provare piatti tipici del posto che loro hanno sul menù ma non è stato possibile… Facevano entrare solo gente del posto!

Worst haggis I had so far, service was surprisingly friendly and fast tho. Edited after the reply, I had many haggis in my life this was the most tasteless one and sauce texture was weird and taste not right. Please try again and reply after.

2 of us arrived at this place to have dinner, there were no seats, we waited at the counter sipping a beer each. After a short wait we sat down and ordered some bread with grilled cheese to start, then a haggis and a steak pie. To drink another beer, 2 glasses of wine. We finished with a whiskey and a bitter. All good, we waited a long time between the bread and the rest. The place is very typical and they are kind. Advised.

Wonderful place. I think I had my best burger here. Great atmosphere, polite service. It was an amazing experience.

Nice place and decent cuisine but ouch ouch ouch the beginner and arrogant service 😅😂… we were served by a young blonde lady with a duvet. The dishes were ordered at the same time but the waitress having forgotten to start the other order, the dish arrived 25 minutes later when the other person had already finished eating. This happens but we had no excuse, just misplaced arrogance because of the total incompetence of the service.

Very expensive, you can find better and cheaper places if you go down a bit. The bill was steep and the waitress gave herself a large tip without telling us. The positive point: concerts in the evening, a plus for the atmosphere.

Today we had dinner in this characteristic bar. Very nice environment. We immediately had a table and they took the order immediately... and then... nothing. When they realized they were occupying a table they asked us to order. Good fish and chips, dessert excellent but not the bill. The price of fish had almost doubled. Overall quite disappointing.

Delicious steak pie. We also had the haggis spring rolls which were flavorful! The whisky flights come with a nice info card.

If you ever go here for a drink ask to try “The Bavarian Not-Right!” A shot of Kraken A shot of Chambord Dash of lime Two cubes of ice Topped with cola.

The staff’s attitude is so bad when serving clients. Our orders took so long time waiting, they did not tell us how long to wait when we ordered. The service is poor.

The staff there is very patient and helpful from booking a table till finishing the dinner. Drinks are nice. Recommended if you’d like a relaxing dinner during the crowded summer season.

Stopped in for a quick whisky. Wasn't disappointed with the selection they had. Asked the bartender for a Speyside single malt similar to X and Y, and he offered a Tamdhu. It was a very nice whisky which I hadn't tried before. Nice atmosphere for a quick drink.

Every time I go to Edinburgh I stop here. I love the familiarity and food and just everything.

Cozy restaurant with (what tourists might perceive as) authentic Scottish cuisine. The service is decent and attentive. However, the discretionary service charge is boldly included in the bill, wheter you liked the service or not.

Stopped in for a quick try of our first haggis, it was interesting, The waitress asked if this was our first time and gave us a quick run down on how the chief prepared it.

Everything was a disaster, we came for the live music and they told us that it started at 10pm and it never started... also at 10pm they brought us the bill without asking for it and when we paid and wanted to order something else they made us go to the bar to order and pay . But then people came to the tables next to us and they brought everything to their table without any problem. Tremendous discrimination!

We went twice for dinner, everything was very delicious, the service was very attentive in making a table available to us. Price a little high.

Rarely give bad reviews but if I can give zero star I would-for the service I got here from the blond short chuppy lady. The shy waitress was ignoring me multiple times during my dine in, after had eye contact rather than come to check-in on me, instead she turn back and walked away (three times) please… if you are not serving any table and you saw a customer waiting by the door, or kept looking at you, don’t ignore and walk away, come to the check if the customer need anything…introvert is not promoting at this situation. Besides, please after you say “ I will be back” don’t forget to be back, I’m waiting outside for ten minutes, even we had eye contact (again) through the window, im being ignored, and when I getting impatient walked into the restaurant, this shy lady saw me and again immediately turned back and walked away, I have to chase and slightly pat on her shoulder to get the attention, and she said “ I forgot to come back to you”. Maybe I came at the wrong time as there was a football match going on, but being ignored after eye contact multiple times is not acceptable at any circumstances in a restaurant.

Salt....everything but the garlic cheese bread needed salt! I know that Scottish food is relatively bland, but i dodnt expect het. Just some salt. Both the fish and chips and the meat pie were missing seasoning. And service was definitely subpar. They also automatically added a tip without my consent with a party of 4. I would avoid.

The server was friendly, but she was VERY busy; she might have been the only one on duty. Lovely, but stereotypical decorating theme: whisky bottle boxes, vintage musical instruments, and trinkets on the walls. Food portions were large and very tasty. I ordered the steak pie and Bashed Neeps but was unable to finish it all, so I asked to take the remainder with me. Keep in mind their website indicates that take-out is an option. Instead of paper or Styrofoam containers, the food was wrapped in aluminum foil, with no actual container. Steak pie is a stew-type of dish, and has gravy. Neeps are mashed rutabaga turnips...soft like mashed potatoes. There were also green peas, green beans, and carrots. All put inside a flimsy wrapper of foil. Upon opening the foil, the pie looked like one big mess. I wish that I could attach photos. I am disappointed.

We found the evening there very nice. They have a great whiskey list and the Haggis Tower is definitely recommended. Everything else tasted very good too.

PLUS + The Cullen skink was very good at a 4* level. The smoked haddock and fragrant leeks gave the soup a bold flavour and character. + The soup was a large portion for a starter and could have easily been ordered as a main course. + The hospitality at this restaurant in terms of customer care, attentiveness to diners, and menu recommendations was at a 5* level. Staff menu recommendations were based on genuine advice rather than formality. + Quick lunchtime service. + Walk-in lunchtime availability. + The restaurant had a rustic, empire-style interior, which complemented the food served. We ordered Fish and Chips. It's really great. The fish is very delicious and light. The oil doesn't smell at all. The staff is attentive and the service is very fast. You can come with children. Prices are above average but worth it.

The food is wonderful! I had the beef pie one time and chicken the next, and both were scrumptious. The vegetable were very good, too. The ambiance was inviting.

Our first day in Scotland. We were tired and hungry. The staff was friendly and the food delicious. Our family ordered the fish and chips and the Whiski burger. Both were excellent. The drinks were delicious. My mom still talks about the whiski jack.

Good place!! We had dinner here, really good food. In our case we only wanted to try some local food, and it was good!! GILMOUR’s BEEF & HAGGIS SAUSAGES and TRUFFLE & PARMESAN chunky chips… RECOMENDED!! Was delicious!! After that we took a couple of drinks… I do recommend the kilt whisky! Nice place!!! We stopped by here for a little respite after walking the Royal Mile. We had the whiskey sour and the Highlander and ate some snacks. All in all, we had a good experience, and we would recommend.

We stopped in here for a drink, nice flight of whiskies. The server seemed a little arrogant, but the manager was very friendly. Came back the next night for dinner and server immediately said no. Made a reservation the next day for lunch right when they opened and seated right away. The food was good, but I can’t say much more about it. Nice atmosphere and again the manager was lovely.

We went there while a band was playing live. It was great! They even agreed to sing happy birthday to our friend. The food was good and warm, and the people around were all very friendly. I loved this evening spent there!

A Scottish experience with traditional food, many varieties of whiskey, attentive and friendly service, live Celtic music, excellent decoration, definitely a place not to be missed when in Edinburgh, I highly recommend it.

Looking for a "typical" place, we came across this typically Scottish pub (with deer on the walls and everything). Vegetarians welcome with lots of choice on the menu. Good beers, for every taste. Super sweets. Smiling and super kind staff. Friendly clientele, just enough to breathe in the Scottish air. Super recommended ❤️

even if you're not a fan of whiskey, this place and its menu will make you appreciate it! The 3 of us tried and shared, three combinations of 4 whiskeys. Flights 3 (staff selection), 4 (shop staff selection) and 2 (a whiskey from each region) Very interesting ! The differences are incredible. After comparing our points of view, we retained several. A real experience! Very pleasant and cheerful (despite the successive glasses of water between tests, we left quite happy, without being alcoholic however). A good time to spend with friends or acquaintances. Very friendly service.

Such a delicious burger and fries meal and our server was lovely and very knowledgeable when explaining our whisky tastings. I wish I lived here so I could go again! Loved the decor, very cozy!

Food was good service was the worst I’ve ever experienced

We ordered the salmon here. The salmon tasted good but it was £29 for a very small portion, maybe 3oz at most. The staff wasn't overly friendly or helpful except to move us around to accommodate a larger group that never arrived.

The selection of whiskeys is really good, even though the bar is right on the Royal Mile. The number of places is very limited, so from afternoon onwards nothing is possible without a reservation. The food is solid, but nothing more. The service staff are curt, which is probably due to the huge number of tourists passing by.

Atmosphere was very cool and accentuated the Scottish whisky lover vibe, but the service on the day I was there was poor. I ordered a certain beer and they gave me something totally different and told me that was the beer I ordered. It was pretty disrespectful and they didn’t apologize or even say they need to fix the menu. Prices were steep (to be expected in the royal mile), but they have a fair variety of scotch tastings on offer. Other places similar so I probably wouldn’t go back. Service can make or break the experience.

We went to this bar following good reviews found on the internet, but we were disappointed by the service. The staff was not very warm or smiling. In addition, the value for money was not at all there when it came to the food. On the other hand, there is a great choice of beers and whiskeys and the decor is really great. I recommend for a drink and to enjoy a nice pub but not for dinner.

Overall experience is very good with friendly staffs, the only thing that made me rated 4 stars is the speed of serving foods. You need a lil patient while waiting for the foods because it’s is worthy. ☺️

First night in Edinburgh and looking for somewhere to eat amongst the plethora of restaurants, bars and pubs. Found this little gem just a short walk away from our hotel. Decent menu - for food and whisky - and the dishes my wife and I had were very tasty. There was a slight delay to proceedings, but the host dealt with it impeccably and proved good customer service does exist. Our first taste of Cullen Skink and it was so good we went back on the last day to sample it again. Finished off with a couple of whiskies from their menu (ask for the separate whisky menu), but they also have a good whisky flight selection for those that want to be educated while they drink. A definite recommendation if you are in Edinburgh.
