The Auld Hoose in Edinburgh, City of

The nachos was not so good. Moreover, the staff's attitude was incredibly rude and disrespectful towards us (perhaps racially motivated as we are Asian, considering how friendly they were with the white group next to us, even sharing drinks). Specifically, we couldn't finish the nachos and asked for a takeaway box. The waiter rudely told us to pack it ourselves (I was fine with this as it might be their policy), but what was unacceptable was when I realized the plastic container wasn't enough and asked for another, the waiter said without even looking at me that I should have asked him first. Then, he brought another container and slammed it on the table without looking back or saying anything, not even when I was about to ask for an extra bag to carry it (he didn't seem to care how I was going to carry it). He simply ignored me and went back to chatting and drinking with the white group. I felt clearly insulted and discriminated against.I know not many people might care about this review, but with such treatment, I will never come back or recommend this place to anyone.

Very welcoming atmosphere, they have live music. I stopped to drink a Red Stripe, I liked it a lot! Friendly staff. I will definitely be back!

I used to go to the Auld Hoose with my late husband when its punk/gothic feel attracted the loveliest most eclectic crowd and when a jukebox in the corner blared heavy metal punk rock and soul classics. We used to tell stories of the Auld Hoose to our son and he's always wanted to go. Now that my son is 18 I took him to the Auld Hoose and I'm pleased to say that while the jukebox is sadly gone the heart of the old place is still there, and the food is equally delicious if not better. My son's already planning our next brunch there. Thank you to The Auld Hoose staff for being so welcoming and lovely.

Lovely food with vegan options. Truly appreciative of the alternatives. Used to have an old skool jukebox with free spins of heavy metal and rock classics, shame it’s been replaced with a paid albeit more modern version.

It's a great pub with good music (there is a jukebox), the food is okay but good for the price and quantity. Try the Nachos Mountain.

We wanted to try a neighborhood pub away from the tourist attractions and we had a great time. The pub is run by a nice guy who explains the beers available.

Just had the best vegan hot dog ever. Large portions, love the choice of toppings and proper fries. Friendly service and a great atmosphere..husbands burger was also awesome. This place is known for it's nachos, they look amazing. Very huge portions

We were staying in a hotel nearby and was just looking for somewhere to kill a few hours. Was a really nice atmosphere, beautiful lab sitting next to us. We ordered a few pints, which were good, although a little more expensive than I'm used to, it could just be the going rate for Edinburgh. Highlight though, we ordered the vegetarian nachos, expecting just normal finger food, but what came was a mountain of awesomeness! Can't recommend it enough.

Pulled pork burrito was delicious and filling and the bartender was very nice. The prices are reasonable considering the large portion sizes.

There is not much selection on the menu but for pub food, this is ok. I recommend the Nachos; when they say they are to be shared with 2-3 people, they mean 2 people will easily be stuffed. It happened to me and my GF and I can really eat a lot. They come in original, vegetarian and vegan, so there is something for everybody. Drinks are good, service is friendly and helpful and the music is pop and metal; it's just great!

New owners, they’ve gone slightly downhill unfortunately. Shame, as it’s a usually a really good pub!

Traditional pub where there is a sufficient number and quality of beers to choose from. We tried their legendary nachos, which were a real taste experience and the portion was for two people and was beyond our capabilities. Unfortunately, we were not able to eat such a large and tasty portion. The guy behind the bar was nice and friendly. We highly recommend this place!!

I've been here many many times over the years and never been disappointed. The food is nice and reasonably priced, especially the gigantic nachos. There's a good selection of beers and whiskies. The music is great and it's never too loud.

Brilliant wee neighbourhood pub. Great selection of beers and interesting food menu. I understand Nachos are their speciality and when I saw a mountain being delivered to other customers I could see why. I went for the chilli dog which was pretty good too. Would definitely recommend and will be returning to try the Nachos.

Great beers and lovely grub at a decent price

Popped in for a drink before an afternoon show at the Frunge. The pub had a few customers ,some eating others like us just drinking. There was music playing ,though not our taste ,however, it was not overly loud so not annoying.Just a pleasant place for a quick drink.

We've eaten here before and this experience was nowhere as good as before. The steak sandwich was rubbish value and wasn't great. The meals are served on plates that are so small you need to play Jenga to stop your chips falling off the plate. My husband ordered the hotdog and it was also rubbish value. You have to pay for extras and it's literally a tinned hotdog in a small bun. Sauces are offered in sachets, which drives me crazy. You spend all your time trying to get in to the individual packets and create lots of unnecessary rubbish. Just invest in some sauce bottles. It's really stingy! We won't return again.

We joined a bench with another customer and then managed to get a table as people were leaving. We were with our 17 and 18 year old boys and straight away were told they had to be out by 8pm. So thus far, there hadn't been any friendly or helpful service at all! Ordered the nachos, obviously what we were there for, and were so disappointed. Yes, they look pretty impressive, and yes there is a lot, but taste wise they don't live up to the claims. There are tonnes of jalapeños, not much cheese, the soured cream had a funny texture to it and the chilli was really dry. I get that it may have to be to construct this dish, but this wasn't the plate of joy we hoped it was going to be. Waited almost 20 minutes for one dessert (that never came) while being told the kitchen was small, they were busy and only had two chefs. We could see right into the kitchen and they were making up plates of food and taking photos! This wasn't worth the journey or value for money. We weren't made to feel welcome at any point, the food was disappointing and the service was extremely poor. We could also comment on the smell, steak sandwich and sweltering temperature in the place... If you have to go out your way to go here, which we did, we wouldn't recommend it.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and a drink after adventuring Arthur’s Seat. Food was delicious, lovely staff and great atmosphere. The selection of music playing is *chefs kiss*, can’t beat tucking into a Mac n cheese whilst enjoying some Deftones playing in the background! Will definitely be visiting again when next back in Edinburgh ☺️

Awesome pub. Probably the best nachos. To be clear: the best nachos, probably. I would rate them higher, but I haven't tried all the nachos. But these are probably the best. If they weren't as good, they'd make up for that in quantity, but they're excellent (probably the best). And it's a very big plate. Stacked high. Do not attempt this on your own, unless you have a free day, and can start early.

Great staff and music jukebox. Food is tasty and comes in large portions. Really enjoyed both the beers on tap and the malt of the month at a great price.

Can get quite busy and sitting at the bar was not easy for my MH. I felt a little anxious with folks behind me. The staff are ok but prefer to chat to each other rather than the patrons at the bar. Personally I go to bars when I'm alone and lonely so I can chat to staff as a way of destressing.

Don’t go to this place if you don’t have a UK ID, they don’t accept any other form of ID. They literally said no to my French ID, what am I suppose to do bring my passport to the pub ? No thanks. Would not recommend, poor quality of service:

Walked here from the city center and started to get a bit concerned about the neighborhood as we neared the pub, but our concerns were unfounded. The staff was friendly and the service was great (including a good beer recommendation). The food selection was a little light, but the sweet chili chicken bites were very good and the beef nacho platter was enormous.

I'm visiting from the US and stumbled in—figuratively—to quiz/trivia night on a Tuesday. The beverage selection is great, and I had a few different local beers. The food was phenomenal. I had the mac and cheese with pulled pork and would recommend it, but I will also be back to try the LARGE plate of nachos!

I've visited that place two years ago for their big nachos and I really liked it. Base on that great experience I came back and invated my friend too. We ordered vegetarian nachos to share as their portions are huge but instead of plate full of nachos we got chilli beans with nachos! The half of the portion were beans! Nachos were tasty but totally overwhelmed by beans. We also ordered coffee and hot chocolate which were great so were staff members who served us but I don't think I will be back as main reason for the visit was to enjoy nachos which we didn't.

Amazing vibe! The nachos are legendary and so so delicious. Pro tip: take friends along because you can't finish one portion on your own (I tried and failed 😝). At Least they give you a take away box to pack the leftovers 😄

I don't get the chance to go very often but when I do it doesn't matter how hungry the two of us are it's virtually impossible for us to finish our sharing-for-2 Nachos. Sehr geiler Pub wo Punk / Metal / Rock läuft leider bissle weiter draußen. Aber essen mega gut und sehr nettes Personal. Absolute Empfehlung. Wenn man bei Arthur Seat war einfach die andere Seite runter. Als Student gibt es guten Rabatt. Echt Empfehlung. Und es gibt eine Jukebox

I have never wanted to stay and compulsorily watch marble run formula one style whilst eating the largest pile of nachos you've ever seen and enjoying some fine beer/cider more than this place - if you have got a seat at 6pm.for the quiz at 8pm, you won't get ones , it's so popular!!

At about £5 a pint you think you'd get a clean pint glass. Haven't had that for the last 3 visits. Used to be a nice venue but the atmosphere has died again recently. Unfortunately I can't recommend any more based on personal experience :(

Biggest nachos in Edinburgh is not an overstatement! They were huge and really tasty, with generous portions! Took five of us to polish them off.
