Very nice pup to relax after a long day. Delicious food and delicious beer.

We were there twice at different times. It is busy and therefore the service can take longer, but this didn't bother us. The service is friendly. Kids menu is great and the food was delicious, we felt very comfortable with our little one.

Food was lovely but the service was terrible. Very long wait for food, not helpful with dietary restrictions and the waitress seemed to ignore our request for the bill so we had to ask again. It started to get very loud towards the evening, and when I tried to access the disability toilet it was locked so had to go up some steep stairs instead.

The food was average, they don’t have many vegetarian options. Also, the vegetarian burger is almost 17£ and it comes with a salad on the side, the server refused to swap the salad for a side of fries (all other burgers come with a side of fries so I don’t see what the issue was there) so I had to order a fries separately. A small bowl of fries was 5£ so I ended up paying 22£ for my meal which was nothing special. The service was horrendous, the server dropped a glass on one of my friends. On top of that when we got our meals we asked for mayonnaise and she got us an almost empty bottle of mayonnaise, I had to find someone to ask for another bottle, 15 minutes later our server got us the same bottle and said this is the only bottle they have left. After all this they had audacity to add a service charge in the bill. There are far better places in that area, I will not go there again or recommend it.

This is an old traditional pub close to the railway station. Good choice of beers available, but a but dearer than others in the area. Friendly staff. Toilets are OK, up quite alot of steps and screws from the toilet paper holder coming through to next cubicle - potential hazard.

Good feed, well priced and excellent service. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area and looking for a feed, a drink or both. Menu is on point with just enough selection to keep most people happy and a good selection of scotch available.

Great pub with big selection of beers, lagers, whiskey etc. Menu is good and the food is excellent. But the main plus point is the helpful and friendly staff. Bonus points for Ian the Manager - made everything work perfectly!

Excellent food and served generously. But it was a very busy establishment (it was 7 p.m.) and the team was completely overwhelmed with customers and therefore ultimately overwhelmed. Please note, several à la carte dishes are available to order (including the typical dessert, Cranachan!).

Quiet day, no one really in. Bit tired looking but beer was good.

Ambience of traditional Uk Pub is good. Bartender was less than helpful or friendly. Seemed to be annoyed having to serve. May have been having a bad night or doesn’t like tourists. Tried to order food but was told the kitchen was tied up for a function. I don’t usually leave a negative review but this was not good at all. One beer and out.

I tried this pub on our trip to Edinburgh. Its a nice place to sit and eat. They have outside sitting available. I would recommend their buttermilk chicken burger. We were a group of 5 so ended up ordering a lot but the burger stood out for me. Their fish platter and nachos are great as well. For drinks we had beer and english tea.

Nicholson's pub is really very nice, the waiters are efficient and kind and the food is very tasty. The desserts are a local delicacy. The atmosphere is typical of the pub, warm and welcoming. Advised Ps: there are options for lactose intolerants

Best Mac and Cheese I have ever had! Plus on top of that when we arrived it was packed we were told it could be 45 minute wait and bless their hearts they were directing us to another restaurant so we didn’t have to wait. We waited, we are from USA, it’s normal for us. Service here is incredible, a huge difference from US. And when we got back home, we walked into a half empty restaurant was told we would have to wait 15 minutes for them to find us a table lol A year ago we traveled from London England, into Scotland and over to Ireland all had outstanding service in my opinion. USA not so much sadly, and now it’s even worse, unimaginable.

Friday about 8pm. We were told we couldn't order food in the bar and would have to wait to be seated in the restaurant area. However, there was a "snack food" menu on our table and other customers were being served "more substantial" pub grup at other tables. We asked if we moved to a table adjacent to those other customers (nearer windows) if we could order food. The waitress simply said "no" with palms up and perplexed expression. Very odd. After waiting a while with no update we just left.

Had not been in the haymarket bar for years. No change in the decor(no problem there),was pleasantly surprised at the prices.thought it would have been more

Highly recommended for the good food, it is very cozy and has good service. At noon it's pretty quiet, I haven't tried the dinners.

Food was a solid 4 starts. The pie was fantastic and the mac and cheese was great. Staff are all over the place. Twice 3 different people asked me the same question. 1. Can I take your order 2. Would you like deserts. They desperately need someone leading front of house. Tables are all over the place and know one knows what's happening.

Came for lunch. Beer, haggis neeps n tatties. Loved it. Nice pub!

We went in for beer and a meal. Although lots of people were eating, and there was a constant stream of food being served we were told "no, sorry, we don't serve food today" while vaguely waving at the eating crowd. We didn't try to understand, we just left.

Lovely little place next to train station. Friendly staff and excellent service Food was good but not great, felt it was reheated rather than fresh but I may be wrong. Was quiet time midweek so not that busy which was good for me. Lots of beers on tap to choose from.

There were no tables available when we arrived, so had a couple of pints before dinner. Admittedly, we were hungry and could have eaten anything after the drinks, but the pies were great. A great night as a result.

Seeing Gary and Olivia serve with care, professionalism and affection is the first experience that makes a visit to this old but updated place worth it. I recommend the Hand Pulled Lamb Shank, a true example of what Scottish cuisine can contribute to international gastronomy.

How has this pub gone so far downhill after the 'refurbishment'? No food after work until too late. Ale choice reduced. Ale bordering on undrinkable. How?

Scottish pub atmosphere and decor guaranteed! A crazy crowd around the bar, you have to jostle to find your way and order! Very large choice of beers, nice menu card, efficient, fast staff (despite the crazy crowd) and smiling, nothing to complain about!

Had a couple of meals there on a recent visit to Edinburgh. We were very well looked after by Jen who was excellent and made a big fuss of our wee dog. Would highly recommend the Haymarket.

We came in for a cider, it was a bit difficult to serve us at the counter. Unfortunately, there was no tea. There are other nicer pubs in Edingurgh, but you can go for one.

Just avoid! We wait over 1/2 hour for table but queue system does not work as waiter choose to whom he gives a table.

Literally the best pie I’ve had. Hands down the best meal I’ve had so far in Scotland. I ordered the slow-cooked beef rib shin & pulled brisket pie. I didn’t say a single word from start to finish during my meal. I was too busy eating! If you go, please order the beef pie, it will not disappoint. #Cleanplateclub

A good, honest city centre boozer with nicely kept cask ale and friendly staff. The place is a bit tired, but that is part of its charm.

The food was so'n'so. Portions were small for the price. Nachos were pretty greasy. Service was somewhat messy. Overall found it poor value for the money we paid.

We wanted food and drink. We were asked to take a seat in the “dining” area, which we did. We were ignored several times by the waitress until one of them had no chance and had to serve us. The food was very good and plentiful. To pay we had to wait at the bar and there too it took a while before we could pay. A service fee of 10% was simply added to the bill. This is not pointed out anywhere. Accordingly, we will eat somewhere else next time.

I wanted to try Cullen Skink while being in Edinburgh, and I'm happy that I had it here! It was very good and next time I'm here, I'll order it again. The sandwiches are also very tasty. The vibe was just fantastic as it was the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Nothing like a pub ripping the public off !!! £5.70 for a pint of Guinness!! Tasted the same as the Guinness in pub round the corner which was £4.80.....£16.50 for a burger and chips and I had to go to greggs afterwards for a sandwich because I was still hungry!!! Absolutely ripped off... the short girl behind the bar needs to work on her customer services skills because she has none whatsoever 🙄. My greggs sandwich was great. Maybe take some advice on food from them....

Was in for food with my family today I had your Famous Steak Pie with veg and gravy. the gravy was like hot brown water Veg was one piece of carrot cut in half and looked like it was past the sell by date, as for the pie it was disgusting the crust was overcooked and I could only eat the small amount of steak not very appetising, and very small portions and very overpriced wouldn't recommend it tto anyone !!

We’re not local to the area and was recommended the Haymarket for decent pub food. We booked a table in the “small room” that provides “table service” No service for 25+ minutes and decided to leave. I did go up with a menu and ask the bar if I can order, but they said it was table service. I didn’t just decide to sit down in a pub and wait for table service as the reply below suggests. Bar staff were great and I’m sure the food would have been good but didn’t quite experience it.

Was in the Haymarket tonight and ordered nachos, haddock goujons and halloumi fries: Nachos congealed, lacked salsa and difficult to eat in one lump. Gougons lacked haddock and returned enough of the batter to coat the next batch. Halloumi fries were drier than a camels flip flop and were Luke warm at best. Bar staff seemed disinterested with constructive feedback.

Charged £3.73 for service!! for two bar meals costing £31. It is discretionary, but only noticed after I'd paid. Not discretionary for me, be aware. Food OK, but wouldn't be back.

Nice big pub. Average ales. Typical expensive Edinburgh prices. My local is £3.40 per pint, this was more like £6. Which is typical, or even cheap, for Edinburgh as a whole. Popular pub, so seating was hard to get, for a group of 7. Didn't eat there, so can comment on the food.

Bellissimo pub caratteristico, dista più o meno 20 minuti dal centro ed è un'ottima opzione se si vuole vivere l'esperienza del pub scozzese senza spendere molto. Presenta una zona con i tavoli per sedersi e rilassarsi ma anche un bancone dove bere una birra e guardare programmi sportivi. Ha un menù vasto che può accontentare tutti, che va da burgers a piatti caratteristici. La cameriera è stata gentilissima e i piatti sono arrivati in poco tempo. Sono rimasta contentissima, bellissima esperienza!

This is the first pub in Edinburgh where I could find ginger wine, bonus!

My wife and I were disappointed with the meals we both had especially for the price we paid. I had the Balmoral chicken which was very dry and very few vegetables with it and my wife had the lamb pie again very few veg. We did mention to the server about my meal and we did get one free dessert courtesy of the manager who did bring it over to us herself but it put us off visiting the other Nicholson pubs in the city.

Great food and atmosphere. Will definitely return next time in town!
