Good food but the place was filthy. Litter blowing around in the entrance. Dirty floor. Staff didn’t seem to care. Will pass right on by in future.

We ordered 2 breakfast baps which were not worth £6 each. Very dry baps, fatty bacon and a very small sausage. Coffee was slow but good

I’d spent the night under a tarp on Maundown Hill, so was hungry for breakfast when I hiked into Wiveliscombe; and Whelan’s came as a welcome sight. Far as I could see, it’s the only cafe in this small, pleasant town, occupying a corner of the square, with seating inside and out. The morning I visited, it was fronted by an entertaining man with a European accent (called Jerry?), who was friendly and looked after us all with cheery banter. He was on the ball, multitasking away impressively. As was the kitchen, because my drink and food came up quickly and hot. Amazingly good pot of char—was craving tea. Had the veggie breakfast, which was decent. Highlight the mushrooms; lowlight poor veggie sausages (it’s not enough veggie sausages contain no meat—they need flavour too). Overall, Whelan’s is a lovely café, and well worth visiting.

Good old fashioned town cafe, nothing fancy and no frills just good traditional fare at great prices, prepared and served by two lovely local ladies, who deserve a local tourist information mention as well. Thanks ladies much appreciated

From time to time our office staff decide to have a Whelans Café brunch. The order is telephoned in. a collection time agreed and a member of staff then drives up to collect. My favourite is a double sausage bap and today it was as good as the one before as the one before that! The sausages are cooked to perfection and despite them then being placed in a fresh soft bap, bagged up, collected and then driven back they are still very warm if not slightly hot. An ideal brunch that keeps me going until my evening meal. I have colleagues who thoroughly enjoy their baguette filled with bacon, egg, sausage & mushrooms. That's great for them but I like the single ingredient bap and Whelans will produce whatever you ask for assuming they've got it in stock. It's an excellent establishment where simple food is cooked correctly.

Enjoyed a hearty brekkie every morning when we stayed at Wiviliscombe. It kept us going till a late lunch everyday. The price was very reasonable and the service was friendly and efficient. This was recommended to us by the pub that we were staying at as they don’t have breakfast available. Great choice.

I'm a regular to this cafe that sits right on the square in Wiveliscombe with tables outside and in. The place has no pretensions ... it's a good, cheap place to get traditional English cafe fare. A friendly welcome and full of locals. Beware though,it closes just after lunchtime.

We were only two of four people in the cafe we didn't expect to wait another 10 minutes for the sausage bap the stroppy girl in charge clearly didn't like having her gossip with her friends interrupted by customers .the place was a mess with dirty dishes left on tables .the boss was clearly having a day off if only he knew what it was like when he wasn't there .

Called in here yesterday, ordered two hot sandwiches and a latte and a tea.Can only say extremely disappointing, coffee was barely lukewarm, although tea was hot, (my wife drank her latte almost straight away) sandwiches were greasy, and menu pricing on blackboard was confusing and ended up being charged more than I thought I should have been, had what we were presented with been good it wouldn't have been so bad, but sadly the offering was not. They obviously have regular local customers, but we certainly won't be back. Disappointing to say the least.

Having read about it on Tripadvisor we gave it a try. Somewhat disppointing. Coffee was weak, like dishwater. Table not clean after the last customer and the floor could have done with being mopped over, as it was the start of the morning. Wivy is only a small place and so it was quite busy with locals, obviously not too fussy about the place, or fry-ups.

We regularly ring through an order for brunch or lunch baguettes / baps from this cafe, one of us then driving from the office to collect the food. It is always well packed, always hot and most importantly always cooked well. Be it a simple sausage bap or a baguette containing bacon, egg, sausage, baked beans, mushrooms and all, each ingredient is a simple one but needs to be cooked properly. Whelans Cafe consistently gets the basics right!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mixed Feelings About Breakfast at Bos Café We popped into Bos Café on a blustery, stormy morning in Taunton 🌪️🌧️ and the town was eerily quiet. Perfect conditions for a cosy full English breakfast… Or so we thought! While there were definitely some positives - piping hot food, friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere 😊🍴- a few key things let the experience down. 🍞 The toast could have used more butter. It was there, but not enough to really taste it. ⚫ Black pudding was too soggy for my liking - I love it crispy! 🌭 The sausages weren’t the best quality, which stood out in the full English lineup. 🍳 One of my eggs was undercooked, with raw, milky white running out when I cut into it. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and really attentive and despite the door blowing open all the time (thanks, storm!), the atmosphere in the café was still really nice 💨🚪. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal more than I did, so maybe it was just me being picky. Overall, it was a 3/5 for me - good, but not great. I wanted to give it a 4, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. Would I go back? 🤔 Maybe, but probably not for breakfast. 🍳

Very typical Costa which is exactly what you'd expect. There's plenty of seating, the service is relatively quick and there's coffee which is probably what you'd be going there for.

Never been here before - so 5 of us thought we’d give it a go… Customer to bloke behind the bar “Hello my old mate, we’ve never been here before, could you please guide us and recommend from your drinks menu?” Bloke behind the bar - “I choose everything personally on the drinks menu so you need to do the same… and you don’t know me from Adam”….. What a welcome. Nice! Now I understand this bars other “not so great reviews”! Obviously the bloke behind the bar is there quite a lot. Shame as we were going to spend the evening there but after his “warm welcome” we left and spent a lovely few hours just around the corner at The Star which turned out to be a lovely pub with kind and friendly staff. I guess we all have a choice where to spend our hard earned social cash

Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. 9/10 Tables were all sticky which was a shame. Food: Chicken burger, cheese burger, macaroni cheese starter, halloumi dirty fries, spicy chicken wings and 2 cocktails. Burgers were both quite bland- required a tonne of additional sauce. Macaroni cheese and dirty fries were lovely. Spicy wings were a huge shame, tasteless, old and far too small. Drinks- mediocre.

Long train journey to Taunton today. Thought I'd pop in for a pint. Wanting a real ale I was given a cask ale. Absolutely perfect. From a local brewery too. Barman was happy to chat and answer questions about the pub etc. Will be back next Sunday.
